So, like many, I think the Nintendo 2DS is pretty stupid. But where others go on to criticize Nintendo and screaming bloody murder, I chose to just let it slide because the Nintendo 2DS isn't meant for me so I don't really care one way or the other.
See this is the problem I see with people who bitch and moan about Nintendo. They treat every single announcement like it somehow personally affects them, when usually it's an OPTIONAL thing they don't have to even deal with. Remember during the casual vs hardcore wars of the Wii era and people decrying Nintendo for adding the option to let Luigi play a level of NSMBWii if you failed too many times? Brilliant idea that ensures that players that work at it succeed and never see the option, and players that are duly frustrated after dying X number of times are allowed to still proceed but at a cost. But nope, that announcement was treated a

Say what you will about Anita Sarkeesian, you gotta admit that people do take note of what she says for good or ill. In this piece of news, it's for the good.
As you might already know, in her latest video she outlined a simple "damsel frees herself" video game. Nothing too spectacular but it showcased how one can subvert the typical trope and make a strong female character out of it. While many were quick to criticize her for not making the game herself (given her kickstarter success), others took a more direct approach and actually made a game in 2 weeks.
The game is called "Sorry Mario Bros," and the plot is that Princess Peach decides to rescues herself by leaving Bowser's castle in world 8-4. You progress right to left through familiar, but slightly altered, original Mario Bros. worlds working your way backwards towards world 1-1. Along the way you can take detours and use Peach's float ability to reach hidden areas and collect "princess coins."

Anybody see the latest My Little Pony episode? Holy hell... they actually had "derpy hooves" in the episode and Rainbowdash herself SAYS her name is "Derpy." Even if you don't like MLP:FiM, the fact that the creators of the series went so far as to take a fan created character (fan created in the sense that fans named a unintended background character mistake), use her fan given name (which happened to be meme-tastic) and not only acknowledge it but to actually PUT it into an episode like that... wow. I have a feeling this is kinda the next step of fanbase and media building. And it's awesome! So yeah... "Derpy Hooves" is 100% legit now.
Been watching a lot of minecraft tutorials on mechanisms and machines. Some of them are absolutely insane, and some of them are actually practical. I would very much like to build a "stronghold" in my world which is completely enemy defense proof. Automatic drawbrid
Derpy Hooves vs HasbroSo it has come to my attention that recently Hasbro has (possibly?) ordered a cease and desist letter to WeLoveFine.com for selling Derpy Hooves related T-shirts. This, coupled with the mysterious disappearance of the episode "The Last Roundup" (which is the one where Derpy talks) from iTunes has gotten fans freaked out and panicky. The general belief is that Hasbro wants to stop the cannoning of internet named Derpy from the MLP series due to the backlash of people getting angry for them for doing so in the first place. Petitions are going up ( http://www.change.org/petitions/hasbro-studiosthe-hub-do-not-change-derpys-name ) and blogs are being posted and everyone's going nuts over this.Derpy Hooves vs Hasbro in Personal More Like This
Here's my two cents:
From browsing around WeLoveFine.com I could see a number of deviantart images being used for T-shirts. Specifically My Little Pony related. Now It's very unlikely that the artists or the website got permission to sell these T-shirts, and whether you like it or not, selling merchan
The brilliance of Derpy HoovesAs many of you know in the first season of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" there was an animation mistake resulting in a background character having googly eyes. Internet fans of the show (bronies) latched on to the character and nick-named her Derpy Hooves. The brilliance of Derpy Hooves in Personal More Like This
Since the show has become such a huge internet phenomenon, Hasbro has responded to the appreciation by acknowledging the strange character and inserting her into strange places throughout the second season.
In "Feeling Pinky" she appears as the reason for a number of huge objects dropped from the sky.
In "Luna Eclipse" she appears dressed in a Halloween costume of made of paper bags.
In the Rainbowdash and Fluttershy duet song in "May the Best Pet Win" she creepily peeks her head out of the chicken coop.
In "Sweet and Elite" she appears inconspicuously dressed in her paper bag outfit hidden among fancy ponies during Rarity's musical number.

Arrietty is an evil movie, apparently...A few months back Fox News went after The Muppets for "promoting the liberal agenda" (whatever the **** that means this week). This time they're going after Studio Ghibli's "The Secret World of Arrietty" and accusing, once again, that liberal Hollywood's agenda is corrupting children and turning them into "occu-toddlers." They also turned their sights on the new adaptation of Dr. Seuss's The Lorax. They claim that both movies "demonize the 1%" and that people "offended" by these movies should fight back by... littering. Don't believe me? Watch the video and get ready to facepalm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuFcWkFJZgk

Microsoft Employees Disrupt Wii U Best Buy EventsRemember how Nintendo was showcasing some of their E3 games at participating Best Buy stores around the country? Well, apparently Microsoft employees have been hired to go to these events and preach about the Xbox One and make comments like "why would you buy a outdated Wii U when the Xbox One is right around the corner?"Microsoft Employees Disrupt Wii U Best Buy Events in Personal More Like This
However, the employees aren't getting what they hoped for. Most customers just start bashing the Xbox One in response. Seriously, Microsoft, the people attending these Best Buy Wii U events are people who are intimately familiar with the crap you pulled at E3. They ain't takin' your shit.
At first I thought this might just be a case of one really loyal Microsoft employee taking matters into his own hands (especially since the original source was /v/), but reports have come in from numerous Best Buy's around the country that indicate many Microsoft employees have ambushed the demo lines trying to persuade people to switch to the Xbox One.

Winnie The Pooh 2011 Movie ReviewTo be honest I was rather underwelmed by this movie, which is disappointing because I had such high hopes for it. To be fair it's a perfectly good movie, above average in a lot of ways... but since it was framed as a sequel to the original 1970's Pooh, I felt that overall it was lacking something.Winnie The Pooh 2011 Movie Review in Personal More Like This
This is the hardest part to explain. I don't know what exactly didn't catch me the same way other Pooh related stuff has in the past. Even the 1980's TV show "Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" felt more connected to the original movie than this one did.
Part of it is probably the animation. While Disney animation is always phenomenal, as they are one of THE best animation studio in the whole world... something about this movie felt very... cheap to me. Some of the animation felt very floaty to me, an issue I have only previously encountered with Dreamworks.
There were a lot of sight gags that flash by pretty quickly too. I remember reading that they wanted to "modernize" Pooh for
The Derpy Issue Part 4 (final)Alright, so now we get to the crux of the matter. Hasbro has finally made a statement:The Derpy Issue Part 4 (final) in Personal More Like This
"The 'My Little Pony Friendship is Magic' series has always been about acceptance and inclusion, and the series strives to convey that through the playful antics of a diverse cast of characters. Some viewers felt that aspects of the episode 'The Last Roundup' did not stay true to the core message of friendship which is the heart and soul of the series. Hasbro Studios decided to make slight audio alterations to this single episode."
NOW would be the appropriate time to start getting all freaked out over this issue. Personally, I am not going to worry too much. I am disheartened that they've chosen to respond this way, but I am not surprised. Hasbro is a corporation, they have to think of their image. "Derpy" is a debatable term that can either mean "goofy and silly" or "insulting towards disabled people" and frankly I agree that this is not an appropriate word to be used for a kids TV show

It is not quite like anything you’ve probably ever seen before. The story follows “Zee Captain” and his sidekicks as they amble through a post-apocalyptic landscape. And while that hardly seems new and different, it’s the unusually superlative graphic quality of the comic cells and the Monty Pythonesque dialogues and leaps of logic that can become quite mesmerizing. Zee Captain, his face hidden by a gas mask that gives him a Darth Vaderish look, wears what looks like a Soviet Red Army uniform from WWII, and the strip does have nourish WWII feel. It’s as if the nuclear holocaust on Hiroshima and Nagasaki had never ended and spread to every major city on Earth. But

This is the consideration of art as something that helps propel us forward through life – to out future great
deeds, our career victories, or dreams of coming big events. But there is a peak to every life. At some point all
people, and all places, and even all ideas have to begin the inevitable decline that is the other balancing half of a lifetime.

Here are the 10 habits of remarkably charismatic people:
1. They listen way more than they talk.
Ask questions. Maintain eye contact. Smile. Frown. Nod. Respond--not so much verbally, but nonverbally.
That's all it takes to show the other person they're important.
Then when you do speak, don't offer advice unless you're asked. Listening shows you care a lot more than offering advice, because when you offer advice in most cases you make the conversation about you, not them.
Don't believe me? Who is "Here's what I would do..." about: you or the other person?
Only speak when you have something important to say--and always define important as what matters to the other person, not to you.
2. They don't practice selective hearing.
Some people--I guarantee you know people like this--are incapable of hearing anything said by the people they feel are somehow beneath them.
Sure, you speak to them, but that particular falling tree doesn't make a sound i

Geeze. Who of thought. A year ago I would have called myself crazy and now here we are. There have been ups and downs. Lots of artwork was made.
Let's give kudos to some people.
First and foremost, I like to thank my little sis who's been so supportive of me and she's a supporter of AppleDash and Twilestia. Haha! Also to all my real life friends who support me. Big shoutout to Jay and Shiney!
Second I must thank Lauren Faust :iconfyre-flye: and Studio B. Without her and the team at Studio B, none of this would've happen. She did something not many could do: Revitalized a franchise that is more than a 30 minute commercial to sell toys. She made something so awesome that everyone can enjoy it. So thank you for everything Lauren and Studio B many times over.
Shout out to Vixy who introduced me to Sonic Rainboom. You ruined my life with MLP!

Video Game Adaptations Can Work!Video game adaptations: the very word conjures horrific visions of box office flops or just rancid pieces of cinematic waste.Video Game Adaptations Can Work! in Personal More Like This
Wing Commander, Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Tomb Raider Cradle of Life, Prince of Persia, Super Mario Bros, Silent Hill, Doom, Max Payne, Dead or Alive, Final Fantasy The Spirits Within, House of the Dead, Street Fighter, Alone in the Dark, Resident Evil, and Tekken among others have been soundly panned across the board by critics and theater goers alike as being unfaithful to their source materials and all around amateurish and poor quality productions.
But comic book adaptations are in general the blockbusters keeping the industry afloat, so 'adaptation' doesn't seem to be the primary stumbling block.
The issue I feel is a bunch of mistakes related to lack of care and consideration for the video games as well as storytelling itself that leads to adaptations failing on two fronts: first as the films the fans of the games want to see, and secondly as films anyon
My Top Ten Villains from American CartoonsA request by :iconedthesupersaiyan:My Top Ten Villains from American Cartoons in Personal More Like This
Limited one villain per franchise and I'm trying not to let my nostalgia determine the placement as much as how the villains impressed me as characters.
10: Aku from Samurai Jack
Aku has had one major success to his name but it's a fair major one: the complete domination of the world in the future. He also has the rather brilliant idea of casting his rival into a vortex so that he can gain this control. Mako turned in a great performance in the role equal parts intimidating as well as silly at times. The reason he's low is because as a character he was a bit of a blank. Why he wanted to take control when he didn't really do much with his influence and what he strove to gain by living alone in his fiery fortress was unclear, but he made for a memorable and unique villain.
9: Megatron from Transformers
A classic baddie in a classic mold, this archetypical villain may seem a bit shallow by modern standards but he's undeniably enduring. He's one of the e
5 Suggestions to Make Horror ScarySince we're coming up on Halloween (sort of) and I'm increasingly irritable at the lack of horror films to see, here five ways I think the genre in film, television and video games could be improved.5 Suggestions to Make Horror Scary in Personal More Like This
I'm actually a fan of horror, but specifically physiological dread rather then gore which is increasingly becoming the minority of horror in general. I'm hoping there are those like me, sick of the splatter and wanting to see horror once more actually SCARE people again!
1: No Cheap Music Stings
This is one that's really starting to get to me. EVERY SINGLE instance of suspense has to be broken up with a loud discordant blast of music and sound. Sure it's startling but since the music sting itself doesn't exist inside the universe of the film/show/game it comes across as artificial with only a little bit of retrospect. To me music stings make me jump but they don't actually scare me, any more then getting a static electrical zap is terrifying. Worse a surprising lot of these stings oc
Suggestions to Revitalize Tired FranchisesReboots are all the rage, but like many things in this era they seem to fall victim to extremes on both sides of the spectrum, be it paying mild lip service to the source material and becoming only loosely connected with it (angering fans and confusing non-fans alike) or slavishly following its predecessor to the point that a remake/reboot seems pointless. Games and films are rife with the trend of digging up old franchises to garner some degree of excitement in the community; a promise for a return to the basics that made digital and cinematic entertainment enjoyable in days before. Its a shame that energy and promotion isn't turned towards marketing new ideas and more original franchises, but if there must be reboots and remakes a plenty I felt like offering some suggestions to allow the classic tales of old to shine in a new light. These are designed to add to a legacy long established. Not to trample on the past or echo it completely, but build upon a series with fresh iSuggestions to Revitalize Tired Franchises in Personal More Like This
A Movie I Loved: The MummyYes I do like movies on occasion and not always dank, emotionally powerful morality plays neither.A Movie I Loved: The Mummy in Personal More Like This
I figured I'd present one and explain the why behind my continued love for it to counteract some of the negativity a little prevalent in my previous reviews.
Because I enjoy movies a lot I have an invested interest in improving them which is why I spend so much effort tearing some of them apart. Even movies I dislike I don't think are beyond saving as pieces of quality entertainment.
The Mummy is not deep, it's not Shakespearian, it's not always entirely logically sound.
But it was and remains a darn good time.
For one thing The Mummy is several genres coupled together but not at odds: Action, Humor, and Horror.
A lot of films believe they need to compromise on genre elements to transition between diverse emotions, atmospheres and story types, but The Mummy managed to blend these three subtypes into a near perfect and consistent mix.
When things are meant to be scary, they are! When there

How many movies have you seen showing uptight Victorian nobles without a sense of humor stiffly dancing, evil colonials and cowboys with an unreasoning hatred for natives and an overpowering greed for gold or Christian crusaders using their faith to justify the massacre of peaceful and reasonable muslim?
You know what the commonality is between each of these subgroups; beyond of course the obvious that they're so overplayed as to be obvious and dull?
The writers have no understanding of history.
Consider, the roman legionnaire or the medieval knight actually would have seemed like a genius compared to people nowadays. In earlier times technology was less advanced, but knowledge was more prevalent and inducted to the young at an earlier age. Most people are
Somebody Gets it: DreddYou've endured any number of my journal entries calling for a tighter focus to films and characters, a fearless quality freed from political correctness which was more evident in classic films from the 80s and 90s, characters defined by their choices and actions not by their social positions, writing which allows people to think and imagine instead of battering viewers over the head with exposition, stories that allow the audience to formulate their own opinions about who is in the right and wrong.Somebody Gets it: Dredd in Personal More Like This
Somebody got it. Big time.
Dredd is an independent production and it shows at times. The setting is minimal and only a few steps away from our time in terms of aesthetics (cars remain with wheels, clothing looks contemporary, few if any advances in technology are immediately visible) and it's a short feature by comparison with many, many films made nowadays clocking in at 95 minutes: an hour and thirty five minutes.
Compare this with The Hobbit, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Amazing Spiderm
When Fans Care More than CreatorsThere's an odd but sadly understandable trend in entertainment: fans who care more about the productions they enjoy then the creators do. An exemplar of this recently is the 'brony' phenomena in which the complete opposite demographic of a children's television show (older males as opposed to younger females) latched on to the stories and characters of My Little Pony generation four. When Fans Care More than Creators in Personal More Like This
As one reviewer put it sneeringly 'This is Derpy Hooves. She is clumsy, likes muffins and she has a daughter named Ditzy. And no, none of this is ever explicitly stated by the show. Its all creations by fan cannon.'
To him this seemed like something to scorn. Fans creating their own connections? Poppycock.
But its a more and more prevalent indication of the vast gulf between writer and fan which has admittedly always existed but now more then ever seems a little outdated.
Why can't creators care about their productions as much as fans do?
Now My Little Pony has a monkey on its shoulder. If you'd never hear
An Iconic Villain is a MustAs I was wondering around Comicon yesterday I found myself looking at the costumes and wondering...where are all the modern day heroes and villains? An Iconic Villain is a Must in Personal More Like This
After a little consideration I realized there nearly aren't any.
It seems a little odd but even for grand heroic fictional tales the most readily memorable element is generally the villain. No matter the diverse collection of noble protagonists, its the bad guy that tends to make the most lasting impression, the heroes distinguishing themselves best if they triumph over an especially menacing foe. A good story should have heroes we can admire and villains we despise, or at the very least opposing sides that instigate emotional impressions. This might seem simplistic but the truth I've discovered is that when there's no one we can feel anything about a story gets dull very quickly. Villains are intrinsically more interesting then heroes because they're more dangerous, unpredictable, and unrestrained. Many are often conflicted as well and if
Whatever Happened to World Building?I recently won an Ebay auction for two new additions to my action figures collection, both based on the video game Quake 2. They're well crafted and nicely painted: both various enemies from the game of the alien Strogg menace: a hulking Tank and the grotesque but strangely graceful appearing Iron Maiden. What particularly interested me about these was that at the time the graphics engine for the game was not what could be described even charitably as 'well detailed' since it was an early example of three dimensional graphics. The figures on the other hand are exquisitely detailed with extrapolated ideas beyond what the game's graphics were capable of. In fact the first Quake figure I acquired in the line was a female marine which to my knowledge doesn't show up in the game at all, but seems at home with the idea of the story for the game since it's about a mass-scale retaliatory invasion by Earth of the alien's desolate home world. Despite the game featuring only a first person perspeWhatever Happened to World Building? in Personal More Like This
Save Our DerpySave Our Derpy in Personal More Like This
No doubt you’ve all seen or heard the hullabaloo around Ye Olde Intertubes in the days and weeks following our beloved Derpy’s named appearance in the FIM episode The Last Roundup. What began as a campaign by trolls wreak havoc was soon picked up by well-meaning-but-misguided bronies and fans. The controversy stems from the mistaken belief that the word “derpy” is synonymous with mentally challenged. Obviously, it’s not. Rather it means clutzy or accident prone. Further, fans maintained that her slightly-husky voice in the episode was an attempt to mock people with learning disabilities. Again, untrue. Voiced by actor Tabitha St. Germain, Derpy was mistakenly thought to be a boy pony and was based on a young boy who lives next door to Ms. St. Germain.
This tempest in a teapot stirred up around the fandom has now exploded into what seems to be a PR-pushback by Hasbro.

Hi everyone and everypony! I’m finding it difficult to believe that in less than a week we’ll be waist deep in the Friendship is Magic season finale. It seems like just the other day we were fangasming over the season premier. Now, here we are, 24 episodes down and but a pair remain. This season has been amazing. So much more than any of us really expected. The return of Luna, tons of Derpy, Lyra and Bon Bon hanging out, an unexpected Trixie shout-out, Dragons, more griffins, Time Travel, masked crusaders, self-help minotaurs, and plenty of incontrovertible proof that all the ponies in this town really ARE are crazy.
It’s been a brilliant season and a wonderful experience. We’re awash in conventions and gatherings; we have show-accurate toys and favorite background characters to look forward to. Derpy’s name was spoken and she was given voice.
