So what did you “actually get done” in the past year? How closer are you to a grand goal in life? An assessment is made and then the inevitable Step 2 of the yearly process is engaged, which is often a word for word repeat of last year’s Step 2:
The New Year’s Resolution
There seem to be two main strategies that emerge at this point of facing the New Year, a “brand new morning.” The lone wolf quietly acknowledges goals not yet reached, and is even more secretive in the “new plan.” “I’ll show them,” becomes the new privat

Controversial OpinionsYou know, sometimes having opinions can make you feel like no one else shares your views, especially if your views aren't being widely vocalized around you. Case in point: It's just been announced that J.J.Abrams will be directing Star Wars 7, and the internet is raging with butthurt about how shitty Abrams is, making over abundant lens flare jokes, and bemoaning the reboot of Star Trek in the process.Controversial Opinions in Personal More Like This

I never had a problem with lens flares or noticed them being over used. And I think overall Abrams has made a fairly consistent batch of quality movies, which is a amazing considering how many directors flip flop between great and shitty.
But I can't often come right out and say that sort of thing because when I do I get attacked for having an opinion that runs counter to the vast majority o

One of the things I hate about the internet is that everything must be quantifiable. Without a proper source, no one will believe you, no matter how reliable your original info was when you received it. It doesn't matter if you heard it from a professor giving a lecture in college, if you read it in a book, read a report by a scientist, or saw a documentary that went into elaborate detail... if there isn't an internet equivalent, then you're seen as a compulsive liar.
Case in point, recently someone mentioned that my sketches look better than my finished artwork and I responded by telling them that there was science that helped back up why that phenomenon exists. But since I couldn't remember the source, I got trolled hardcore for saying that. Today, however, I stumbled upon a close enough equivalence. Here's a quote:

Except that Congress is so inefficient at getting things done, they often wait too long to pass the budget by the deadline. But this year Republicans added an addendum to the extension saying they wanted to bump Obamacare till next year, and squabbling ensued.

After doing a documentary on the history of Cel animation I thought it would be neat to tackle the death of 2-D animation in America, since I know a lot of people don't really understand how or why it all happened. This is a very condensed version of the past 20 years, most facts taken directly from Roy Disney's "Save Disney" website and the "Art of Animation" by Bob Thomas. I did my best to make sure all the facts listed below are as accurate as I can make them. This is a LONG post, but I think it's worth reading. Recently over on The Oatmeal, artist Matthew Inman made a joke about guy gamers vs girl gamers. The joke was pretty simple: A guy gamer makes a mistake and gets bitched out by his fellow teammates online. Contrast to that, a girl gamer makes a mistake and her fellow teammates try to comfort her, tell her she's doing great, and make suggestive comments about hooking up. To me the joke was clear, guys treat girls differently online. However, that's not how the rest of the internet saw it...
From what I've read of the whole Oatmeal flare up, the reasons for the hate seem grounded in the fact he depicted the girl as blond and bubbly (ie: stupid) and not as

That's the sort of nonsensical whimsy that I think was sorely lacking from this version of franchise. Count me in!
Still not sure how the 3DS and Wii U version are going to interact with each other, if at all. Iwata has said that the 3DS will have different stages, so that suggests that they aren't compatible. But then, if they're not compatible, why put out 2 games at once? Frankly, I like the idea of being able to play against Wii U opponents from the comfort of my 3DS. That would be really cool, but I don't know if that's a thing they're looking to do or not. Hmm..

Proving your Geek CreedNerds all share a unified experience of being socially ostracized from the rest of other so-called "normal" societal groups. The reasons may vary (not being good at sports, liking a certain sci-fi/fantasy TV show, etc), but the fact that we all were picked upon and marginalized during our most formable years is a major part of the nerd/geek identity. However, I’ve recently been thinking more about a different aspect to the gun control debate and it’s broader implications to other troublesome politically charged areas of our (United States) cult

Originally, points were beginning to make me grind my teeth, but then I really started thinking about it: My fan art is drawn using somebody else's style and characters, with my own touches or embellishments. Fan art isn't necessarily copyright infringing, but I'd be taking a huge risk charging money for commissions involving fan art. Plus, it'd bug me on some other level. For the longest time, I considered fan art a nonprofit trade and quite frankly, I'm going back to that particular frame of mind. I just happened to deviate from it a little while.
My new policy for this account: I'm open for requests, art trades, and commissions.
Requests: One per person, may be line art or flat colors, can't be more than 2 or 3 characters. I'll be a bit more picky about subject matter here as well. (If the character count is above 3, it becomes commission or
Gravity Falls Geekout Session-Ever since episode 1 of season 2, I've been ridiculously excited about Dipper resurrecting the dead. The first thing that came to mind was that one-off scene from Invader Zim implying that Dib had done similar...I don't know why this odd similarity amuses me as much as it does. I guess I just really love the idea of these two meeting, geeking out about the paranormal, and sharing theories. While these two have a lot in common, Dib is far more zealous and obsessive than Dipper; while Dipper can get to Dib's level, he has other interests and concerns, as well as stopping points. Dib can't even shelve pursuing Zim for an hour to eat pizza with his family! (Dib has valid reasoning for that, of course, but I digress. Dipper would make an active effort to try and meet his family, while Dib wouldn't even try at all. I'm only pointing out differences for the sake of comparison, not pointing out who is more in the right or not.)Gravity Falls Geekout Session in Personal More Like This
-I still hold the opinion that the Dipper focused episodes have b
CONTEST!The theme for the contest is this: You, your fan character, or your favorite character in the season's line-up just won Total Drama All Stars! Create a scene where they're blushing, howling with excitement, or even outright rubbing it in somebody's face (These are just examples; you can have your chosen victor react in any way you please)! Pretty much anything goes, but there are a few pre-requisites that must be featured in the scene:CONTEST! in Personal More Like This
-the briefcase with a million dollars in it
-one other character (this must be a canonical Total Drama character) that's either celebrating with your chosen victor or glaring at them in utter envy

2nd: a flat color Total Drama style digital piece with two to three characters and scene of your choice/50

The World Doesn't Understand Me MentalityI saw the "Nobody understands me" mentality pop up in a few deviants' journals and it got me thinking...The World Doesn't Understand Me Mentality in Personal More Like This
I remember going through a phase like that back in high school.
When I talked to my parents about how I felt, the response I received was: "Nobody owes you anything. You need to make the effort to branch out."
Only now does that response kick in and truly make sense in retrospect. I'm about to get kind of blunt: Yes, everybody thinks and interprets the world in different ways, has a unique set of skills and talents, and is that one-in-a-million combination of genes. It's these differences that make the world interesting, progressive, and sustains the continuing evolution and advancement of the human race. Despite this, though: You are not an exclusive special snowflake. You're not an alien unsuspectingly dropped off on Earth as a baby.
The problem isn't the world not being able to understand you, it's you not understanding or connecting with your surroundings.
The world owes you abs

Dust and CobwebsGood morning creeps!Dust and Cobwebs in Personal More Like This
I've finally finished moving all of my strange antiques into the new house I'm sharing with Mr. Cain. We've painted, and installed all of our modern conveniences into this lovely circa 1900 house.
I've been waging war on the dust and cobwebs since moving, and the spiders... you would not believe. I found their mother lurking in the most frightening of all places... the hard-to-reach crevice behind the toilet. It was a horrific fight, she being about the size of my entire hand, but I've managed to purge the house.
The house itself is strange. It's not very big, but it's the biggest house I've ever lived in. It has mysterious tiny doors that don't open, a cupboard under the stairs, fireplaces in every room, and tall ceilings (which is good, because Mr. Cain has the proportions of Slender Man). I'm already imagining the kind of hobgoblins who lurk in the walls and the monsters in the attic because something has to be making those noises at night...
I'm looking forward
Otto the Steampunk OctopusI mean, with a title like that, how can you not get excited?Otto the Steampunk Octopus in Personal More Like This
Brian Kesinger's already made his mark in the animation world while working for Disney, but he's breaking out of that mold with a story of his own, revolving around an unlikely couple, Victoria and her fabulous pet octopus, Otto, following their daily adventures. They're downright adorable. Brian's work has always impressed me, and this project is no exception.
I can't really articulate my love for these characters... they're so charming, and portrayed in Brian's fresh take on a classic style, I don't know what's not to love - and I just can't wait for his book to come out! So if you haven't already, head over to his page and check out more of his work!
