EDIT: Made a few minor changes and flipped the image. Liked it better this way
EDIT 2: this is just a matteconcept, not a pure mattepaint even though I used a bunch of photos on it. I only spent like 10 hours on it, so I'm very much aware of the flaws and errors. I might work it up later on.
There comes a time in every concept artist's life, where he/she must create an epic scifi city with ridiculously large monolithic buildings and an overall sense of cliché. Despite my persistent avoidance, that time has come for me today......
Run to the cities of the future, take what we can and bring it back home.
I took a week off from work and what am I doing? Personal work! I can definitely feel this concept art job is making me slightly better at this stuff... and since I don't do a lot of sci-fi pieces.... here yall go!
Bout 8 hours PS

Been working on Movie back ground mattes this last year and I worked from time to time over a few months on this personal image. About 150 + Layers, 3d rendered images and post work in photoshop. Hope you like it...
This is a little bit of a revisit to an old idea Orbit was originally just me mucking about but became very popular for prints and publishing however I never really thought that much about it at the time (I was literally just sketching space art as a bit of fun between projects). I loved the idea of the piece so now, 8 years on I've had another stab at it.
A highly advanced race builds an enormous spaceport off the coast of a continent, dwafing the 20km high skyscrapers on the land, the main structure brushing the cloud layers with near 100km diameter docking spurs surrounding it. Built above the main structure, another level that is beyond the atmosphere allowing craft to dock without braving the weather on the planet
Painted in Adobe PS CS3 Wacom Intous 3 Tablet Original res 5k wide About 20-22 hour work. I used some great photos of Earth from space as reference for the world.
City Environment, again part of the CG Course. I have learnt so much over the last few weeks it's unreal, although I still struggle with the design process; hopefully that will come naturally the more i practice.
Here's my idea of Atlantis city. For the 'Jouney' project I've been doing. Submitting this to win an original John Harris sketch. He came to Codemasters through knowing Fred Gambino, who I work with. I'll let you know if I win haha
General overview of futuristic Shanghai, where the story takes place. The idea is to mix the old, stone architecture and traditional elements, like gates or monuments, with vast scale and futuristic additions (more city views to come).
About the project: -----------------
'Butterfly' is my long-term personal project that started as a sf/cyberpunk point-and-click adventure game back in 2009. Here you can read an actual interview about it and see some old concepts - that's when I started with digital painting Since I don't have any more time for its development, I decided to tell the story in a series of concepts, maybe finalized with a downloadable mini-artbook. We'll see
The story, set in Shanghai, in the year 2099, when androids stand for almost 1/3 of the general population. An undercover agent of a major corporation, ZEN Technologies, is sent on a mission to recover a stolen prototype of an AI module. In order to track the thief, he has to lurk into the deepest and oldest areas of megalopolis.
Concept for a personal project called 'aRevolution'.
Overall view on Atoll 7. Built close to the land, it acts both, as a thriving megalopolis and water purification station. Huge water pumps surrounding the city suck the sea water in, filter it and distribute all over the city as well as through the air channels towards the land. Special green houses and bio-plantations take care of development of new breeds of plants, since most of the original Earth plants died out decades years ago. Some modified plant species already grow wildly, covering the surroundings.
Central part of the atoll is also filled with greenery, with numerous multi-levelled parks and other recreation areas. A super-speed highway, so-called LinkWay, connects the main part of the city with the Silver Fin - government HQ and city systems' AI, developed by aliens in co-operation with human technicians. A force-field, penetrable only by solid objects (like vehicles) surrounds the atoll, preventing any by-products of water purification or remaining germs to pollute the city's air.
Here's a new concept painting showcasing an underground asian district. I called it Hyper York, since I got inspired by one of my trips to New York last year. I tried to keep the "sci-fi" as minimal as possible to still keep it somewhat believable ...
Painted in Photoshop CS6 within 6-7hours on and off ... Let me know what you think.
I've also updated my website www.inetgrafx.com ([link]) ... finally after almost 7 years :-S Let me know what you think, thx, -dan
PS.: I've uploaded a higherres version of it on my website in 1080p
