When you left us
You were happy
You lay on the grass
Rested, but not defeated
You felt the blades caress you for the last time
Your last words were not heard by us
But perhaps the wind in the trees echoed your last breath
As you slipped away
Was it a cloudless night?
You shone brighter than the streetlamps
Brighter than us
You were right to leave
There was nothing left for you here
Nothing to leave behind
You knew when to make your escape
You ebbed gently with the sunset
The cold cannot reach you now
When you left, you knew that
The stars would sing you to sleep
And catch you in flight
Are you among them now?
Outshining the traffic lights on dark roads
I hope that you're at peace.
