What if any creator could build a powerful and affordable brain-interface device at home?
Ateam of scientists have raised more than $215,000 on Kickstarter to build a simple Electroencephalography (EEG) device that anyone can use to help “unlock the mysteries of the human brain” by measuring electrical activity inside your head. These brain hackers have a radical vision for the future. The device includes a collection of wearable electrodes, an amplifier that measures the electrical activity in your brain and a built in “signal processing

Full House Will Return
Netflix has ordered 13 episodes of a Full House Reboot. Rumors have been circulating about a possible return for the series for some time now, but last night the news that Netflix had ordered a new season of the show was confirmed by Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) on Late Night With Jimmy Kimmel. In case you either lived under a rock in the 90s or merely hadn’t been born yet, Full House

What do you think your favorite city will look like in one hundred years?
Architect Rem Koolhaas has completed a “vertical city” complex in Rotterdam, bringing a new style of multi–purpose skyscrapers to the city skyline. Bennett Stein wrote about the new buildings for KCRW’s Design & Architecture blog, calling the creator “the Godzilla of architecture.”
Here’s an excerpt from Stein’s essay:

Modern elevators have made “skyscrapers” possible—buildings with so many floors that reaching them only by stairway access would be a ridiculous and exhausting proposition. And so stairways have become hidden in blandly utilitarian “fire exit” stairwells. Even buildings now designed with no more than two or three floors save space with elevators rather than having a central stairway. And so one of the glories of our most beautiful architecture is rapidly disappearing, being preserved only in private mansion residences. It is a pity.
There is something magical in a stairway—this structure endlessly “in motion,

There has always been this obsession with the others we share this planet with.

Pick Your Poison BrainstormingI've been thinking about a somewhat detailed scenario, Pick Your Poison, where every major ideology rules a great power, while every minor ideology gets some minor powers aligned to one of the great powers. I'm dividing the world into four blocs, with each bloc corresponding with a corner of the Political Compass test because it's a nice, neat way to arrange everything. The other major aspect of this scenario is that every state is a hellish dystopia based on the most unforgiving straw men their opposition has drawn up. Everyone's sacred cow gets thrown on the grill. If you don't have a sense of humor about this sort of thing, I suggest skipping it (or at least the parts about your blessed bovine). I'm thinking of a PoD sometime before the fall of the Soviet Union (China stays somewhat Maoist before going full crazy later) and a current year in 2115, so modernish states are front and center with sPick Your Poison Brainstorming in Personal More Like This

Brother Against Brother - House of Cards meets Game of Thrones meets Jericho meets The Walking Dead (without the zombies). An increasingly tyrannical United States government, under a power-hungry, Machiavellian president (a Frank Underwood expy) goes too far and does something intolerable (Canceling elections? Arresting opposition? I dunno). A popular movement, from the left, right and center, calls for the President's impeachment. Things escalate, and a protest in Washington turns into a bloodbath. The United States is plunged into a new civil war, with many military and police defecting to the rebels' side. And of course, while the rebels are united against the government, they have very different views on what should emerge from the rubble.
The show would be very gray vs. gray morally, with sympathetic and utter bastard PoV characters on both sides. PoV characters can be leaders, foo
PracticeBy now everybody already knows that becoming a good artist doesn't come from talent alone. On contrary; talent is a myth. Like the famous quote goes: "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration". Meaning so much that even with a good idea and a bright mind, you still have to work your ass off in order to achieve something. While this makes mad skills available for basically everybody, I still hear many people complain about practice being a rather boring thing, or about them practicing a lot but still getting nowhere.Practice in Deviant Events More Like This
So I thought; Oh well... Why no article about practice?
Conscious vs unconscious practice
First of all lets divide practice in roughly two types. You have the conscious type of practice. This is the kind of practice in which you're sitting down and thinking to yourself "Hell yeah! I'm gonna draw some <subject> today to get better at this!". And then there's the unconscious type of practice. The type of practice that is often more playful an
Conquer your artblockI think every artist out here has experienced it at least one time in their career: the so called artblock. A moment of total lack of inspiration that suddenly hits you, and leaves you unable to create. Most often the solution is to just wait. Most artblocks will solve automatically with time. But there are circumstances in which an artblock doesn't automatically disappear, or when you have deadlines to catch. In that case, you might be helped by some basic tips to conquer your artblock.Conquer your artblock in Deviant Events More Like This
Over the years, I've experienced an artblock (or writersblock, as they call it for fiction writers) many, many times. Most of them were short, but the longest lasted over 2 years. Most of them solved on their own. But sometimes I just needed that little bit of extra help. Therefore, I made a list with a few tips and tricks to make your artblock go away. Hopefully it'll help you as well as it did me.

Most artblocks come from fear. The fear of not being able to

There are a plethora of brushes available to you on photoshop. This guide will explain different brush settings, as well as how to install different brush packs here on deviantART. This guide is for pressure sensitive pen tablets. It is going to be much easier to do things with a tablet. Ones by Wacom are good, and you can get a bamboo for under 99$ USD.

It's important to stick with default ones to learn all the settings. You can do so many things with the hard round brush.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Boko Haram militants have increasingly used women and young girls as human bombs in their six-year quest for a hardline Islamic state.
Civilian vigilante Ashiru Mustapha said the explosives detonated as the girl was being searched at the entrance to the market.
"The girl was about 10 years old and I doubt much if she actually knew what was strapped to her body," he told the AFP news agency.
"In fact, she was searched at the entrance of the market and the metal detector indicated that she was carrying something.
"But sadly, the explosion went off before she was isolated, killing at least 10 people and injuring many others."
The market was cordoned off as health officials began the grim task of sifting through the wreckage and collecting body parts.
