"What!? Wait, you have got to be kidding me!" Dave was having a less than pleasant day. It was his eleventh birthday, meaning he was one year away from being able to start a Pokemon journey. That might be fun maybe, but that wasn't for today. Instead, today he got a ton of homework from his parents, because he had to be sure he knew what was going on in the world before leaving on a journey in a year. Well, that was all in fine, but turned out there were a lot of books to read. He didn't remember any of the other kids reading any of these books before becoming trainers. He had been given a huge pile of books to read that he could just barely carry. So, he had been carrying them home from the library, when he had tripped, sent most of the books flying into the air. He had gathered most of them easily, but one of the books.
Well, there was some rather tall grass on the edge of town, and one of the books had landed in that grass. He had been told; Never go in the

"That, is the Smart Mart Employee Correctional Collar." An older man in his fifties dressed only slightly nicer spoke up. He was the manager of the local Smart Mart for over 18 years now something he was personally proud of. He had the tone one usually holds when they believe they know everything but in actuality was only slightly more intelligent than a senile goldfish.
"It's... a shock collar." The man stated flatly
"Well Ted, if you want to get technical, yes it is. The point is we've received a number of complaints about your actions in our store."

Well, it was to be expected. He was still only twelve years old, still considered a pup by the rest of the tribe. His entire getup was oversized. His leather vest hung off his shoulders, he had two straps along his chest for holding knives and supplies just kind of hung limp, and he even needed two paws to use his knife properly. It is the 1880s, London England. Advances in science seem capable of manipulating the very fabric of nature. Prosperity is higher then ever before in human history and the affluence of the continent is awe-inspiring. However counterbalancing this is widespread poverty, disease, degradation of the under classes, crime, and wantonness among the idle rich to replace the forgotten virtues of the past. The European power seems supreme and all races flock to London to earn their way through industrial labor, but old prejudices and bad blood travel with them. London is diverse as it is elitist, as rich as it is poor. The heights of learning clash with hubris and disregard for the dignity of life and the spiritual guidance of the ancient church is flawed by pettiness in the ecclesiastical hierarchy while strange foreign cults practice their dark rituals in back allies and basements.

Whereas poor terra forming, dangerous wildlife, unfriendly natives or poor resources define other squatter planets, Athena has a little more complex history behind its status. To power through space, wage war, build settlements, and explore ever further into the universe mankind has built many, many machines with varying purposes and designs, but like all things these devices are not eternal. To maintain the raw materials of literally millions of broken or worn out robots, space ships, and other mechanisms, Athena was designated a scrap yard world, where the junk of the surrounding planets could be stored in great piles until Consortium officials could be bothered to melt it down for reuse. Still, Keane loved to sneak a drink here and there every now and then, and to be honest, his home-made stuff didn't taste half-bad. It was not very often that Keane managed to do it, though as it w
Across 3I spent the next few days setting up a camp for myself to reside, the tent being a robe propped up by two large tree branches. A small fireplace was set up just outside that for the cold, windy nights, and the tree stump became my rather handy worktable for anything I needed, be it for storing a few extra fruits from foraging or for hanging on to the spare firewood for the next morning.Across 3 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
My days were spent foraging for food and firewood for the night, while the evenings were spent sneaking around town, swiping food, tools and other necessities from the townsfolk. I felt bad for doing so on many occasions, but I had no other choice, given my current situation. Still, to help alleviate that bad feeling, I tried to take only what was extremely necessary to me, things such as food, tools, and once, a knife, for cutting up fruit, hunting and personal defence. I took as little as I could from the people as well, making sure to make it seem like the townsfolk were simply getting for

Keane groaned, feeling a massive throb in his head. Leaning against whatever he was leaning on, he fumbled around for his glasses, feeling them on the floor. Picking it up, he put them on, but not before giving his temples a rub. He felt like someone had hit him in the head with a brick, and then hit the brick with his head.
"Vital signs show normal, you're lucky you didn't fracture his skull..." another voice said.
"Well, how else was I supposed to get him? He spotted me, what other choice did I have? Surely, I could not fire on him..." the first voice muttered back.
In a dazed state, Keane looked around, seeing nothing but disorientating bright lights and shadowy figures looming in front of him.
"It doesn't look like him..." that someone said again, "I mean, how could that really be HIM?"
Keane groaned, head throbbing. As his vision cleared slightly, it became apparent that the first voice was not someone, but something. Two figure
Across Chapter 1The constant humming, the bright, fluctuating lights. It was almost hypnotising, in a sort of odd way, or so Private Patterson figured. Standing behind a wall of sandbags, he watched the portal, its bright glow further enticing him to fall asleep then and there.Across Chapter 1 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Still, his sense of duty and threat of having to clean the mess hall should he be found sleeping on the job again was more than enough motivation for him to try to keep himself awake, and after some quick readjustments to his standing position, he found himself buying more time from losing consciousness.
Rubbing his eyes, he still couldn't believe the amount of trouble the portal had caused. About a month ago it had appeared out of nowhere, dead smack in the centre of the tech wing of some random office building. Thankfully, nobody was hurt from the incident, but with its presence, a few have.
On the first day of its appearance, the local police had taken upon the job of watching over the portal, unsure of what it was and its p
ReasonThe dragon. What does it mean to me? In fact, where did it come from...?Reason in Short Stories More Like This
As early as I could remember, it's always been around, but for the life of me, I could never remember why or how he came about. My first recollection of him was as a child, no more than the tender age of seven. He was but a stray thought, as I recall vaguely, and that was about it. Nothing more than that...
Over the years, he too became increasingly prominent in my life, from nothing but a lone thought, he evolved into something much, much more.
In fact, if you were to ask me, he is the reason I am here today. Too many times have I considered taking my own life, only to think about being one with him and throwing those away. He has led me to becoming who I am, what I am, and brought me to where I am now, and in some aspects, is very much part of me.
But how is he even me? That's something I can never explain. I am, all things considered, not dragonkin, but as I've aged, I've learned to more or less accept him as a

"C'mon..." it muttered under its breath, its wings twitching in anticipation.
The rest of the humans in his class hardly noticed the dragon, who was sitting at the back of the class, they themselves being preoccupied with their textbooks and smartphones. Even the teacher himself didn't quite seem to care, him being more absorbed in his scrawling on the whiteboard in front of him more than anything else. A stroke here, a stroke there, the letter 'x' here, a few more strokes...
It looked up at the whiteboard for a moment, glancing over the mathematical equations that spanned across the entire surface of the board. Finding nothing of relevant importance to him, the it looked back at the clock, then out the window. Whole worlds were out there,
Cakeface -Wolf TFThe boy walked into the school, feeling as crappy as ever. It was his birthday today, and he was going to school. This should be a crime... he mused to himself, cursing the fact that his birthday fell on a weekday this year.Cakeface -Wolf TF in Short Stories More Like This
As he passed through the gates of the school, he couldn't help but feel like he was entering a jail, the atmosphere of the school moody and dark. For the most part, the students that lurked around seemed equally moody as well, dragging themselves sluggishly around the campus, most of them still sleepy from their early-morning commute to the school.
At this moment, our hero felt rather fortunate that he lived merely a few minutes away from the school, saving him from having to wake up an hour or so before school started to get there on time.
As he trudged down the narrow, dimly lit corridors of the school, the lights from the school's hall came into view, revealing a mass of students congregating together inside. Following suit for the mo
The MeteoriteBy the eerie glow of the campfire I sat, shivering in the cold winter air as I glanced at my companion, his face lit by the warm orange glow of the campfire. Sitting on a camping chair, I pulled off my gloves and stuck them by the fire, warming them up. It seemed that no matter how thick my gloves were, they still seemed to become numb with cold. The Meteorite in Short Stories More Like This
My actions seemed to prompt my companion to snigger, giving me a look of amusement as I rubbed my hands together. Between the three of us, I was probably the most heavily dressed, wearing a jacket, jeans, and a layer of thermals underneath to keep myself warm. My friend, on the other hand, simply wore jeans, t-shirts and jackets, as if to mock me for my lack of threshold for resisting the cold.
"Yeah, yeah..." I muttered as he was about to say something, trying to brush off whatever smart comment he was about to make. It was mutually understood between the two of us that I wasn't entirely used to cold weather, having come from the tropics, but
