"TRICK OR TREAT!" Four voices rang out simultaneously as they stood on the front doorstep of a house decorated with cutesy pumpkins cartoonishly drawn monsters and well lit enough that one could barely tell it was after dark.
"Well hello there!" It was an elderly old woman who answered the door wearing a witch's hat and a black robe. "Ahhh, aren't you the cutest little darlings." She spoke up examining the kids. "And such cute costumes."
The children of course were in costume due to it being Halloween. There were two boys and two girls. One of the boys was dressed as a tiger and the girl was dressed as a pirate. The remaining two were both dressed as black cats. The two were twins and had worn the same costume largely as a joke. At only eight years old it was hard to tell the difference between the two despite the difference in gender, and in identical costumes it was impossible to tell which was the boy and which was the gir
The Small Rider "Today is gonna be the day." The wolf pup slowly laced up his boots. They were a bit too big for the pup. In fact, the entire set of leather armor felt too big. Well, it was to be expected. He was still only twelve years old, still considered a pup by the rest of the tribe. His entire getup was oversized. His leather vest hung off his shoulders, he had two straps along his chest for holding knives and supplies just kind of hung limp, and he even needed two paws to use his knife properly. Being short for his age certainly didn't help things. The only thing that actually fit was his loin cloth. Still, he would eventually grow into this outfit. At this moment, the rust colored kitten was thrown a good six feet across the floor losing his staff in the process as what appeared to be a small panda collided with him at extreme speeds.
"Oh heckles no!" The voice came from another two foot tall rust colored kitten standing in the rafters of the building. He was dressed in only an oversized lab coat and a pair of green goggles worn on his head. He was currently holding what looked like a sling shot mounted on a sniper rifle. "The contest is over! The red panda who was named Luke sighed and sat up in his chair with a sigh as he continued to browse through the online shop on his phone.
Then eventually something caught his eye.

It was exactly 11:55 PM when James woke up. The young adult was dressed in just a pair of boxers and would only be up for a few minutes. Three shots in the back, I never even got a look at who fired. Going out like this, local newspapers would probably paint me as some kind of hero or martyr for trying to dig out the truth, a lot of good that did me now. I finally looked towards the source of the voice. It was a parichisu. A hyper one at that. I soon discovered that I was in a tent, I was a bit confused, but thankful that it wasn't a cage.
"Why? Is Jacob too long or something?" I smiled standing up and clutching my head, it felt like my brain was on fire. "Geez....what happened to me?"

From Reality to Pokemon Part 1I got out of my mom's car as she waved and shouted that she loved me. I had just gotten to school about half an hour early to meet my friend Tanner. He was an odd fellow. He had a huge mess of hair that covered his eyes and most of his nose; he was a slacker that never gave any effort into anything that he didn't deem worth his time, and didn't talk to anybody. He always kept to himself, which was a shame, this guy could write comic gold, draw great pictures, and could figure out most problems. However he didn't plan on putting any of those talents towards his future, because he had only one dream in mind, which was to be rock-star, or pirate, whichever came first. Anyways he was sitting at a chair in the student lounge writing a sarcastic book report for one of our elderly teachers, laughing as he dropped in several comments that involved saving the earth from aliens, retrieving his stolen jacket back from an evil leprechaun, playing solitaire, and how none of the assignments he everFrom Reality to Pokemon Part 1 in Short Stories More Like This

I ran quickly and quietly towards the buzzing alarm. I got really close now, the sound was almost deafening! I pushed through a large amount of brush and saw it. There was a growlithe trapped inside of a cage, the kind with two doors on the sides that close when you step inside. It was struggling to break free as she hit the edges of the cage repeatedly. It used flame thrower on the bars, but they remained intact. I ran over to it.
"Hey!" I said.
I quickly had to dodge a flame thrower that had been sent through the bars. "Hey, I'm here to help!" I shouted.
"I'm sorry. I thought you were one of them." It said.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I walked into this cage! Duh!" It yelled.
"Why would you do that?" I asked.
"Well it was disguised, there was this tarp covering it, but I think I might've burned that up." She said.

However, when I looked down I didn't see my brother and my friend, I saw two large talons.
A Pidgeot was on our porch, "Is this Tanner's house?" she asked. I could tell it was a she; she had a very feminine voice.

She gave a sigh of relief; she lowered her head revealing Jacob on her back. He didn't look good; he'd been beaten pretty badly.

"So...they're spreading us out now?" I thought to myself.
It was the smartest thing to do on their part. If they hadn't put us together to begin with, none of this would've happened. I personally wished that I had never tried. If I hadn't....nobody would've died...Luke wouldn't have died. Everything that had happened was my fault and I knew it. I looked around the room to see that it was completely empty. Not even a guard was in here. There were several computers and a couple of machines that I couldn't identify, although I'm sure half of them served some kind of sinister purpose. It didn't take more than a few minutes to take in everything in the room. I was wondering when somebody would come in, but after so long, I just decided to lay down and try to sleep.

I was walking back to my office I had only gotten a fifteen minute lunch because I was booked. I walked down the rows of cages that lead back towards my office.
I always hated doing this every time I would pass a Pokémon it would cringe in fear as I passed. When I first started working here I thought it was kind of funny, but now it just made me feel like some kind of horrible monster. I didn't really feel like this fear was deserved, I knew what kind of experiments were conducted on them, but I wasn't responsible for any of them, all I ever did since I started was file and organize paperwork.
I continued walking when the calm silence was broken by mad laughter.
I looked down the row and saw another scientist walking towards me, "I wonder what's got him so happy?" I asked myself.
When we finally met he stopped me. "Where have you been all this time? Me and the other guys don't see you around anymore." He smiled.

Either way I really hoped that this new government, wasn't gonna last long. He reaches for the cracked and pealing mustard color door,
But before he can knock,
Not willing to bear witness to another stainless steel colored, tear filled face,
He drops the telegram and walks away,
unable to destroy another family's life.

On Dark AdaptationsKilling Dreams or Nurturing Them?On Dark Adaptations in Editorial More Like This
I've been accused in several instances now of ruining or killing childhoods through my proposed reimaginings of classic shows and franchises as well as my interest in 'darker' versions of the same. It's a concern that has dogged me for some time as I try to strike a balance between darkening and deepening a concept without destroying the fundamental enjoyment of it or making it morbid.
Here I'll try to describe my thoughts on the matter, why I make reimaginings the way I do, and why I feel I'm attempting to nurture dreams, not kill them.
This is not meant as an attack and I'll alter it if I learn otherwise, but this is my explanation for now.
1: My Stories are still Dreams
When I reimagine Sonic say or when I support wholeheartedly American McGee's reimagining of Alice in Wonderland this is because these tales are still essentially dreams. Regardless of how dark a story becomes it remains quintessentially a dream; a looking glass land to inspire the im

A bizarre series of murders are reported in New York. People of many different backgrounds just wind up dead, killed by methods too mundane and strange to be considered suicide. Eventually the incidents are too widely spread to be considered the killings of one person and there's feared to be a plot by an extremist organization, possibly a terrorist conspiracy.
Until the Central Park incident.
While witnesses watched some with cameras nearly everyone in the park began to exhibit signs of confusing, disorientation. When they tried to speak their words meant nothing and although their expressions appeared very sad their voices were monotone. Without warning they began mass suicide by any means possible including hairpins, fence stakes, wandering into traffic, all executed with the same methodical zombie-like unhurriedness.

J/H: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
It is the 1880s, London England. Advances in science seem capable of manipulating the very fabric of nature. Prosperity is higher then ever before in human history and the affluence of the continent is awe-inspiring. However counterbalancing this is widespread poverty, disease, degradation of the under classes, crime, and wantonness among the idle rich to replace the forgotten virtues of the past. The European power seems supreme and all races flock to London to earn their way through industrial labor, but old prejudices and bad blood travel with them. London is diverse as it is elitist, as rich as it is poor. The heights of learning clash with hubris and disregard for the dignity of life and the spiritual guidance of the ancient church is flawed by pettiness in the ecclesiastical hierarchy while strange foreign cults practice their dark rituals in back allies and basements.
Into the midst of this tension and world of opposites

Julian Ivo Kintobor recounts the history of his people to a recently invented robot he's cobbled together between his grueling work as a breaker; salvaging pieces from the enemy Mobian war machines brought down into his bunker city. He relates briefly the Xorda invasion and the ongoing struggle with the Mobian enemy. Finally he recounts his own life, building a criminal network to see how people tick and reading up on famous dictators for inspiration. The Edge relates to the tipping point in his personality, from wanting to better his people to despairing of mankind and wanting power and control. It also relates to the edge of the table he slowly coaxes the robot to by degrees until it willing follows his orders and smashes to pieces on the floor.

THE END OF THE WORLD
Long before mankind came to be there was The Conradine. A collective societal construct, they had one been barely sentient mollusks in the slimy seas of their home world Alfyr but some powerful will forced them to crawl from the depths and fashion themselves generation by generation into a society of scholars, warriors, and priests. They worshiped balance itself, believing matter and energy was finite and interdependent, all occurrences to each object or being resonating throughout the Aggregate: the sum total of existence. It was by harnessing these resonant patterns that The Conradine developed a system of technology through carefully modulated sound waves interpreted through specially carved crystals. By this they could pilot their vehicles wit

Planet Athena is one of well over a zillion worlds humankind has colonized, specifically a 'squatter' planet of low priority for the ruling Consortium, low enough that colonization is accessible to settlers of limited means or a desperate desire for freedom.
Whereas poor terra forming, dangerous wildlife, unfriendly natives or poor resources define other squatter planets, Athena has a little more complex history behind its status. To power through space, wage war, build settlements, and explore ever further into the universe mankind has built many, many machines with varying purposes and designs, but like all things these devices are not eternal. To maintain the raw materials of literally millions of broken or worn out robots, space ships, and other mechanisms, Athena was designated a scrap yard world, where the junk of the surrounding planets could be stored in great piles until Consortium officials could be bothered to melt it down for reuse. Spiraling minarets rose from the heights of innumerable buildings, each with their own foreign architecture never before created in the world as she knew it. Towers and edifices reached to marry the sky in perfect harmony while low-lying adobes hugged the earth in a melody of technology and ancient wonder. In the center of the wonderland stood a quiet cottage. This is where the girl dwelt amongst her imagined realm.

As early as I could remember, it's always been around, but for the life of me, I could never remember why or how he came about. My first recollection of him was as a child, no more than the tender age of seven. He was but a stray thought, as I recall vaguely, and that was about it. Nothing more than that...
Over the years, he too became increasingly prominent in my life, from nothing but a lone thought, he evolved into something much, much more.
In fact, if you were to ask me, he is the reason I am here today. Too many times have I considered taking my own life, only to think about being one with him and throwing those away. He has led me to becoming who I am, what I am, and brought me to where I am now, and in some aspects, is very much part of me.
But how is he even me? That's something I can never explain. I am, all things considered, not dragonkin, but as I've aged, I've learned to more or less accept him as a
