I am looking for a set of new sample params that will be included with the next Mb3d x2, that will be a formula update + a param update.
You CAN CONTRIBUTE AND YOUR NICK will be in the param name.
Resulting images must be elegant, incisive and clean, with a stepwidth of 0.5 to min 0.3! I will be very exigent with those requirements! Sample images are examples of elegance in my eyes.
no decombines. (ALTERNATE MODE each formula can have any number of iterations 1 to 20, leave maxiter to 60 as it's fast to render). And no weird looking images. Remember the elegance rule, fractals are not random
Use neutral colors. That means; not full hue ones, prefer those more grey-ish, in general. You always can use coloured lights (just not use all the colors in the spectrum at once if possible) - and you can use dynamic fog also AND any other option in postpr

First off; let me wish you all a - slightly belated! - Happy New Year!
Now, to the point; I recently discovered - via Kronpano's :iconkronpano: excellent piece 'Sierp Hilbert Construction Site': http://fav.me/d72bcaa that it's possible to create interactive 360 degree images of M3D - and doubtless also Mandelbulber and Frag - pieces.
The process uses a facility provided by 'fieldofview.com', which is accessible through a Flickr account. I personally have never been a great one for making vids of my M3D creations, so finding this feature was like manna from heaven for me!
Basically, you'll have to have, or open a Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/ to upload your images to. As most of you will be aware, M3D has a 360 degree view option within the Navigator; use this to create your panoramic 'base' piece.
To work best, the 'horizon' should be positioned in the exact centre of your image. This will avoid any unwanted distortion. If you are using a background image

What is new in version 1.8:
- New compiler, new look.
- Transparency option in postprocessing, amount of it in object colors.
- Stereo function is more accurate.
- New diffuse map options for object coloring.
- Saving also the internal image buffer along with M3I.
- Addition option for lighting like intensity for all lights and background
image, usage of downscaled background image for ambient color.
- Drag&drop Png files with internal parameters and textfiles with txt pars

- Number-Fields in the Formula-Window have now buttons to decrease/increase the value (!!!). The Increment can be specified at the bottom of the window
- Option to perform automatic refresh of the Navigator-window when changing formulas-parameters in the Formula-window
- The Formula-Window is resizable now
- Exchanging of formulas in the Formula-window now works in two directions
- Started to increase the number of formulas from 6 to 8. (!!!) Many changes are already done, but not all. Unfortunately most required changes are only detected by crashing the program.
It was necessary to create new revisions for all file-formats involved, currently only saving in the *m3p-format is supported.
New M3D Formulas from ~dark-beam!Hey Everybody!New M3D Formulas from ~dark-beam! in Personal More Like This
Just a quick heads-up to let you know that our Mandelbulb 3D formula wizard, 'dark-beam'; after a well-deserved sabbatical, has now returned to active service, and has written some fascinating new formulas for our much loved prog!
If you're new to Mandelbulb 3D, and haven't yet got the full - original - 'dark-beam' formula pack, you can download 'new fmlas.zip' from:
For the very latest formula releases, again on 'new fmlas.zip' - including the brilliant new RandCubesIFS - goto:
Note: before downloading you should perhaps rename it, say; 'new fmlas2.zip', in order to avoid overwriting the original .zip file. Got your ears on Luca?

Mandelbulber v2.02 Now Available!Hey guys!Mandelbulber v2.02 Now Available! in Personal More Like This
Further to my last journal entry about the release of the alpha version of Mandelbulber;
I'm happy to announce that the finished version - v2.02 - of this superb 3D Fractal renderer is now available for free download!
Get it from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mandelbulber/
Mandelbulbers' creator Krzysztof Marczak, has the following to say about its features:
"This is first release of Mandelbulber v2. The program was rewritten from scratch to have a nicer Qt based user interface. I hope you like it.
What is new compared with the old Mandelbulber?
- user interface is based on Qt 5 environment (before was GTK2+)
- instead of separate windows, there is big main window with all functions grouped in moveable and detachable docks (View/Save window state stores favorite window configuration)
- most edit fields have sliders to set value by mouse. Edit fields where range of value is very high, have a slider with logarithmic scale.
- new camera-target functionality and

Mandelbulber v2.0 Alpha Now Available!Hi folks!Mandelbulber v2.0 Alpha Now Available! in Personal More Like This
Although our group is called 'mandelbulb3d', we also include the 3D fractal programs 'Fragmentarium' and of course 'Mandelbulber'. Well, some exciting news concerning Mandelbulber has recently come to our attention; the program's creator Krzysztof Marczak
:iconKrzysztofMarczak: also known as 'Buddhi', has just released the latest test version of this excellent software. Version 2.0 Alpha now has a single window GUI, as opposed to the multi-part interface of previous versions, and this new version seems to operate in quite a similar manner to Mandelbulb 3D!
Although I personally haven't yet had time to have a good play with the software, I will definitely be spending some serious time with it over the coming weeks, until the 'official' release of the final version of Mandelbulber 2.0.
I actually began my 3D fractal explorations using Mandelbulber v0.80 way back in 2010, and loved its lighting and final render quality. But, subsequent releases demanded

Jesse has just released a new Beta version of M3D; v188.8.131.52 test.
As ever, it's available for free download from FractalForums.com at:
What's new in the 184.108.40.206 test version:
A rather spiffy looking new interface and, in Jesse's own words:
"Some beta testing is needed because of compiler upgrading;
the changes belong to the internal light model, more options
for the diffuse map, panorama camera mode, stereo options.
Some issues should be solved, many new ones to find!
It is just the executable, you can take all directories with files
from the previous version - v220.127.116.11 - if you need them, or adjust
the ini-dirs to the existing ones.
Note: the new stereo options must be used from the same starting
parameters to work properly, I will change this for easier handling.
For now you have to undo the parameters or reload default ones".
Please bear in mind that this is just the executable, so if you are

Thanks to a recent post on facebook by one of our members, I thought I'd make you aware of someone called Zelda Kurowski, who is currently showing many fractal images on her page at 'ipernity.com'.
These include pieces by some very well-known fractal artists; many of whom are respected Mandelbulb3D group members of long standing.
She appears to be claiming them as her own works, with absolutely no credit to the original artists appearing anywhere on her pages!
I'd suggest signing up to the site, and making her aware of your feelings in no uncertain terms!
**UPDATE 7/8/15: After many complaints to ipernity.com by those affected by this, I'm happy to say that Zelda Kurowski's page has now been taken down! But I still wonder how many of her ilk are still out there waiting to be uncovered.... **
Surely there must be something which can be done to stop this happening; perhaps it's time dA starting using an image protection feature to

Isolating Structures In MB3DHow to clean up your image background ~Isolating Structures In MB3D in Personal More Like This
Wow. I haven't done a journal in ages. I thought I would share a little trick for getting a nice clean background when you want to isolate a structure in Mandelbulb 3D. Why? Because sometimes the structures behind the main focus of your image or the main structure are either just small repeats of the main structure, or they are fragmented and in one way or another just not as interesting. Or the background might bury the foreground object in detail or draw attention away from what you really want the viewer to focus on. People strive for a lot of detail, and that's fine, and sometimes it works. But often I find that there's no main focus to frame your point of view. (Edit: I forgot to mention this is made using Mandelbulb 3D version 1.8.2 and I fixed a few typo's!)
Sometimes you're able to focus on the foreground structure through clever use of fog, lights and depth of field settings. Nothing wrong with that either, so this is just another
Mandelbulb 3D Tutorial 4: Basic TipsMandelbulb 3D Tutorial 4: Basic TipsMandelbulb 3D Tutorial 4: Basic Tips in Personal More Like This
First thing we'll cover are some tweaking tips. Tweaking, not to be confused with Twerking. Almost everyone does it. It's one of the best ways to learn. This section of the tutorial will cover some of the basics that will hopefully help new MB3D users with tweaking. Just don't let words like iterations, raystep multiplier and stepthwidth limiter scare you off. You don't need to know the math behind these things. Just consider those words as lables to show you where a setting is and you'll do fine. That's what the GUI is for, to make using the program fairly simple. I'm going to use a sample parameter of mine from about 2 1\2 years ago which is a tweak in a long line of tweaks. You will find that I am guilty of a few things that I'm going to cover, so it's a good example.
As always, I like to mention that I am not a tech giant. I really don't know a lot of the technical aspects of Mandelbulb 3D. If you are interested in the technical
Mandelbulb 3D Tutorial 5: Tips and TricksFrom time to time, I still manage to stumble across new 'tricks' in MB3D. I'm sure some of the following tips are known to others, but for those that haven't discovered them, I hope they will help in the future. Some of these were discovered accidentally, others were found through desperation while trying to solve problems.Mandelbulb 3D Tutorial 5: Tips and Tricks in Personal More Like This
The first one is very simple and just a little bit of a time saver.
Loading Diff maps ~
This was discovered by accident. It may be well know for all I know, but I just recently discovered it. In the light panel under the Global light tab, there is a box you select to load a diffuse map (Diff map). This is used to color your image in different ways, such as making it look like the structures surface is textured. Normally you simply select the box (Use a map for the diffuse color) and the number one map in your folder loads. If you want to change a map, you just scroll with the up\down arrows to a different image number or input a number if you know which map n
Evolution of a fractal ~ a ~ to ~ zI was just looking for something to do, and though it might be interesting for some of you see the work flow process I went through for a fractal yesterday. This is not a tutorial. It's just a visual representation of my searching for something that I hoped would be interesting, and if I got lucky, something unique as well. I'm not saying I accomplished either of those goals, but I like where I ended up, and in the process saved many parameters that could be further developed and possibly become worth posting at some point in time.Evolution of a fractal ~ a ~ to ~ z in Personal More Like This
I decided to start with the formula ABoxModKali, as I have seen Tim, (aka timemit) using it a lot lately. I've used it before, but rarely started out with it as the anchor formula. (Fo.1) Played with it alone for a few minutes, with and without Julia, and then added _addC in Fo.2. I thought the first image below would be a good staring point and it was my first saved parameter. A lot of the time, I work with no color because it can be distracting.

Well I'm sorry to suck you in by that devious title! I haven't mastered anything, but I did finally put together all the useful advice given in comments from a recent journal (http://haltenny.deviantart.com/journal/42966411/) I wrote on navigating with the 3D Navi tool. The funny thing is I brought up my solution to navigating at Fractal Forums back in May and FractKali responded with a much better solution than mine, and I either didn't read it thoroughly or simply didn't understand it. So I want to make it clear that I am simply passing along advice from the comments I've received here and at Fractal Forums. I just want to organize and better explain the procedure in case any have missed some of the comments.
I almost always offer this disclaimer. I readily claim that I am far from an expert with MB3D. If beaten over the head with information enough times, it eventually

To paraphrase a recent advertisement, "there's a free app for that!"
Just about anything you need, any type of software, you can find a completely

Here are a few items that I normally install on any Linux Computer I use...
1) Compiz... This Comnpositing Window manager gives you so many cool effects and ways to tweak your system that I feel lost without it. While it is only suitable for fairly recent hardware, and works best with a good graphics card with a fast GPU and lots of dedicated RAM, once you meet those requirements, there's nothing else like it. It can be tricky to set it up, but there is a wealth of information online for nearly every distribution of Linux and how to install Compiz and get it working (assuming your distro didn't come with it already installed)
2) KWIN... a slightly more stable alternative to Compiz. It does not have as many effects available, but it does have the most popular ones. It can be a bit more stable and proably uses a little less computer resources than Compiz as well.
