Another livestream semi-speed paint. Tried out the flagship again, not perfect yet, I'll have to 3D model it to get it right. Should I spend another sitting on this to get a fleet in there?

The command flagship for the Protectorate fleet.
-It's dual hull design aids in redundancy should it ever be found in heavy fighting. The lower hull is largely filled out by a massive staging hangar for defensive ships and a sizable ground force.
The upper hull houses the majority of the crew, who's accommodations are considered lavish for a space vessel, this for the large number of officers often on board.
-The ship is also equipped with extensive processing and maintenance facilities, it can support it's crew and provide extensive repair capabilities for local forces when planet based facilities are not available.
-4 main rail guns along it's 2 noses are it's main anti warship armament. These can fire a variety of munitions, guided or not, at firing rates up to high enough that more than one round can be moving down a rail at once, if needed.
-Warships all carry a common tech shielding that disperses energy weapons, this is why most ships use projectile weapons. Should an enemy ships shielding be disrupted, this flagship contains a laser generation system. 2 focusing turrets, one top and bottom, can fire on vulnerable ships to quickly destroy them.
-12 massive turrets each with 2 guns play a pivotal role in laying down spread fire on distant or closing ships, this ensures a much higher hit probability against evasion maneuvering.
-Numerous point defenses guard against small ships and fighters, some medium sized defense weapons can also join in the spread fire patterns against targets.
-Due to it's massive size, it is unable to make effective evasive maneuvers against enemy fire except in very long range engagement from glancing shots. Thanks to the Elemental program however, along with basic energy weapon shielding, this ship also uses forcive shields to deflect projectile weapons when possible. It's onboard ground forces will often include a number of Elementals which can join in on defensive actions.
-For all it's abilities as a warship, such a large investment in a single ship would lead it to be a prime target in war, so it largely spends it's time in friendly territory making use of it's command and combat staging power.

Commissioned by :iconb8factor: ~b8factor. I was excited to work on a painting of one of my favorite games back when Homeworld2 released. While I haven't played it in years, the game has a huge impact on how I paint space scenes, and influences how I design ships. Few space or RTS games to date have left such a mark on me.

Under the shadow of colossal Progenitor derelicts, a Captain watches as special cargo is transported by frigate to another battlecruiser. Escort frigates and fighters screen the area. For anyone with the privilege of looking out a window the remnants of the galaxies past on a nebulan horizon would be quite the view.

Another commission for :iconmihoshik: *MihoshiK over at the SpaceBattles forum. This time a space combat scene from the Perry Rhodan universe.

Firstly, InB4 "dat borg ships" :noes: Cube and sphere ships are very common in retro and even some modern art. Make all the fun you want, but you can't argue that spheres and cubes are probably the most efficient shapes you can use for varying reasons.

There is one error in my scene though as I was only enlightened about this tactic after I was far into the process. I have the cubes flying face forward, but they are meant to fly corner forward. With decent firing arcs on the ships innumerable weapons (something like 100 emplacements per face) it can fire 50% of all it's weaponry at a single target at any time, not just 16%. That said even one face is going to give you a bad day.

The ships make heavy use of hyperspace technology. Their shield are blankets of hyperspace, sending incoming fire to another dimension in a crack of lightning, making small openings for their own fire.
There is also heavy use of hyperspace weapons to teleport nuclear weapons onto the enemy. The "airbursts" are similar enemy nukes.
Then there's the hyperspace shunt field weapon, which projects a spherical rift onto an enemy ship, sending that portion into hyperspace.
Of course you also have to deal with the standard fare of disintegrators, plasma beams, shockwave cannons, you know, the usual :D

Concept drawing of my custom battlestar galactica-themed ship.
Compared to the Galactica, this is a much smaller vessel with the main focus put on being able to strike unalarmed enemy and retreat before it can be damaged.

I still have some more art here which I did for the PS3 title Soeldner X 2: Final Prototype a few years ago and which I haven't posted before.
These are storyline artworks appearing in the game.

Developed by Sidequest Studios.

Do first contact situation ever go peacefully? Of course they don't because that would be boring.
Anyway what your looking at is a first contact situation between the Humans and the first alien race to go into the game Novus Aeterno the Verunas. I have shown some of their ship designs recently and this is the first full illustration with them in so it was nice to paint something other than Human V Human.

The Verunas aren't very friendly they are the most advanced race in the game and they know it, they are big headed both physically and mentally.

Also this painting will cover a 20ft wall at out booth at PAX in April which will be rather cool to see.

Enjoy

Here is the latest illustration for the game Novus Aeterno, it depicts a huge open area where masses of troops are listening to what is probably a very uplifting and motivating speech about universal domination and all that jazz.
In the distance there are several dreadnought class ships but they are too big so most of them are in the clouds. not a great view from up there.

Another painting for the game Novus Aeterno. This image was used as a guide to show the look and general feel of the big gas and dust clouds that are to be added into the games space to make space less empty and boring. There is a huge fleet of ships breaking orbit from a planet that can just be seen behind the big dust cloud. This is the first image I did that showed off all the ships the human race has, minus a big ass one but more on that later. The ships are paint-overs of 3D models created by our very talented 3D ship modeler :iconpukey82: some adjustments were made but the basic shape was kept for accuracy.

Jump shuttles were once common, but were eclipsed by newer, lighter hulls and the dropping price of He3. Remaining examples have mostly been converted to more conventional layouts. The few that remain as built ply their trade in the shadows of Saturn and her moons.

The basic concept is simple, if a little unusual. The main ship can be configured to carry a dozen passengers, two tons of cargo, or some mix of the two. The jump shuttle doesn't enter any significant gravity wells, but rather offloads what fraction of travelers and materiel is required onto a small launch secured below the hull.

With the Acadian Queen complex coming online late in the last century, the commodification of fusion power had become total. This combined with improved materials technology made the type obsolete, and complexity yielded to simplicity once again.

The type was never robust or capacious enough for smuggling, so the remaining examples are mostly operated in either ferry or tourist service by the smaller carriers. Here we see the 'Witch's Promise', a particularly early example of the type, making a holiday run to the Cassini Astoria and associated botanical gardens.

Dedicated to all travelers in time and space, as well as those who await their return.

Originally, this was a sort of technical exercise to take the very anime-ish conceit of the 'spider tank' and try and paint a thick and drippy coat of realism on the idea. One thing led to another, and I worked up a small scene centered around the vehicle the remnants of the supporting infantry.

The vehicle backstory is this: An aging APC chassis converted into a rocket artillery unit. The batteries lower and are reloaded hydraulically from a magazine between the tube bays. Normally, the gun would be traversed to the rear when firing rockets to prevent damage to the barrel and muzzle brake. In this case, the commander has left the gun deployed to be able to more quickly engage infantry or light armor. This is the sign of either a highly experienced or dangerously inexperienced crew.

I feel like I'm finally getting to the point where I'm actually *painting* as opposed to coloring a drawing. It's very different.

Coordinator Cruiser

2 Burst Blaster Cannon - Стрельба очередями по пять зарядов, далее перезарядка Две с половиной секунды.
2 Laser Defense Cannon - ближнего боя, для защиты от бомбардировщиков.

This was an attempt to design a fairly believable spaceship.

This craft makes use of antimatter/fusion hybrid propulsion, and the crew compartment is heavily shielded and includes a spinning section to allow for simulated gravity during prolonged flight.

If we could afford to build one... why not amortize the cost and build two :)?

This is one of several views in this "series"...

The large shield at the rear serves as both a radiation shield and a heat radiator - since this type of propulsion would produce quite a bit of both :)

This is just a quick composite test from an animation I was working on a while back. I never finished the scene, but some of the frames looked interesting so I thought I would post one :)

Lightwave 3D, Adobe After Effects

Edit: The ship here is a very early version of an aircraft that eventually made its way into "Tiberium" (which unfortunately was cancelled). It's actually a model I made for fun, but it seemed to lend itself to the game so I threw it into the mix and after a lot of development - and a reduction in its size - it became our main crew transport. The texture shown is much more recent.

Hi all! It's been so long since I've been able to post work that I've done!

These concept artworks were done in late 2008 for the game Front Mission Evolved. Front Mission is a cult-classic mecha franchise by Square Enix that inspired my love for robots when I was a youngster. It was an insane privilege for IFS and myself to have been able to contribute to it.

I took plenty of inspiration from the Michael Mann film of the same title for this image. :) It's not quite a robbery, but its always been a fantasy of mine to see mecha in a somewhat similar situation.

I won't really give away the story, but here is basically an invading militant group performing a blitzkrieg strike on a city. The 2 green terrorist Wanzers are creating a distraction with local law enforcement units as the main force heli-drops onto the highways of the city; using the route to hasten their advance to the city center (where they will eventually do more damage) and getting as many civillians involved as possible, thereby affecting the police's ability to respond with deadly force. Nastyy.

-Skan Srisuwan for his wonderful Wanzer redesigns.

-Verawat Verasunthorn who translated Skan's designs into 3D models, over which a number were used as 'bases' for me to paint over in these artworks to maintain accuracy and as a time saver.

-With Skan's permission, I'd taken design liberties with some of his designs, throwing in my own ideas and flavour to the mix; hopefully providing an extra layer of 'grounded-ness' or grittiness that I felt resonated with the spirit of Front Mission. ;)

Regarding the title-- Yes, I am a huge fan of the Syndicate series (its a classic Bullfrog game). :p I really can't wait to see what EA and Starbreeze will come up with for the next installment.

Anyways, this was a quick one to illustrate an orbital elevator falling through the atmosphere as the terrorist force (from the previous images) brings the fight into the heart of the city. Shown here are brown local military Frost-model Wanzers deployed alongside infantry to defend a city block, blissfully unaware of the... gravity of the situation.
