Bla bla bla. Independence. 1776. America. John Adams. Hooray.
So there's been this "internet declaration of independence" that's been going around the web recently, and to be honest I think it's a load of bull. As much as I love free speech and rights and etc, I simply can't get behind it, and it disturbs me that so many companies ARE getting behind it. There's just too much entitlement from people on the internet who think they "deserve" everything, and it's really beginning to creep me out. I'm all for abolishing SOPA and ACTA other things like it, but I just can't in good faith get behind the "internet declaration of independence." Sorry.
What's with this weird anti 4th of July backlash that's going on? All the people complaining about the "patriotism" and stuff. I know it's always existed, but I've never seen it this massive before. Do people really just not understand the point of holidays? It's lik

Honestly didn't see that one coming, but I am happy nonetheless. While the first game wasn't very remarkable, I just love the art style and the stark contrast the game presents compared to every other post-apocalyptic-near-future-world that exists. Chock me up to interested.
Didn't see this one coming either. Quite surprised, but personally don't care. I've never really paid attention to fighting games much, yes even Super Smash Bros. I have a feeling this will be one of those games that we think will be amazing, but the newest generation of kids won't understand why they should care (kinda like DuckTales).
Sidenote: Quite disappointed with the way they handled the demonstration by bringing out a woman to play multiplayer with and "destroying" her while simultaneously saying shit like "just give up... it will be over soon." Scripted or not, that scene was appalling.

Dragonborn - Don’t really care for this one so far. Just hasn’t peaked my interest yet.
Dawnguard - I’m REALLY enjoying this one, although as you’ll see it’s necessitated that I add some mods to help keep it from breaking my game.
Hearthfires - I enjoyed this one too. Very relaxing and fun to hunt the world for resources to build your own homes, marry, and adopt children.
Birds - Adds extra birds flying around the world.
Enhanced Wetness and Puddles - This is a work in progress mod that makes puddles appear in towns when it’s raining. They’ll grow to a specific size then shrink to nothing when the rain stops. Just giving the world a little bit more realism. Unfortunately it’
Disney vs Lucas ArtsIf ever you bring up Disney in a conversation, people immediately recite tired old issues with the company that haven't been true for a long time. For example, complaining about the excess of half-assed sequels. That was part of Michael Eisner's regime. When he left the studio the quality Disney was producing suddenly skyrocketed considerably. Likewise the excessive merchandising and branding of Disney related products has also ceased to be as all-consuming now that Eisner is gone. In fact, a lot of the main issues people had with Disney during the 90's and early 2000's was a result of Eisner.Disney vs Lucas Arts in Personal More Like This
Since Eisner left, the Disney studio has done a REMARKABLE job in clearing their name of many of the atrocities they had committed during his regime. They promptly turned the animation department around and have even begun doing 2-D animated films again after Eisner said "no." Granted, at the moment 2-D is still in hiatus, but the situation isn't as dire as it use to be and there's still promise
Research HeadacheI decided to start the new year off by doing a research binge. For the past 48 hours I’ve been seeking out documentaries, specials, books, websites, ancient literature, etc. I kinda like to think the brain is like a sponge, absorbing everything that’s put around it. The basic idea is that I soak up enough of this knowledge I can use it on a more instinctual level when I’m writing.Research Headache in Personal More Like This
Fun though this is in it’s own way, it’s still work. As much as I am enjoying doing all this voluntary research I am beginning to feel a little burnt out by how much information I’ve been assimilating.
This isn’t really related but if you haven’t seen the History Channel’s miniseries “Vikings,” you should definitely check it out if you can. Quite impressed with it, and loving the attention to details and character development. Kinda like Game of Thrones in it’s tone and brutality, but without all the “sexposition” dialogue and

I'm fairly certain I'll be attending the Minneapolis Comic Book Association's (MCBA) Spring Comic Con this year. I usually attend this convention every year and I enjoy it a lot. I'll fill you guys in on the details as we get closer to the convention date, and if any other conventions pop up I'll let you all know too.
I'd love to attend the MCM convention in England again, but I just don't know if I'll be able to afford the plane tickets in time.
Sim City Disaster
After my last journal about issues with the video game industry, it should come as no surprise that the Sim City debacle just makes me facepalm. For those unfamiliar with the situation it goes something like this:
Someone at EA got the brilliant idea to force gamers playing single player mode in the newest Sim City to require a constant online connection. This

Wendy Davis talked for 11 hours straight. No food. No drinks. No bathroom breaks. She couldn't even pause for a moment to take a sip of water or else she'd give up the floor and the vote could get underway. 11 hours straight she talked and just before the midnight cutoff she was interrupted, and the vote began... only to become absolute pandemonium as the crowd watching protested the interruption.
The GOP insists that the vote carried and passed, while the Democrats insist that they were still taking votes after the midnight cutoff thanks to the chaos that ensued. This is going to be one of those instances where the GOP are gonna try to lie and shove their way through our diplomatic

It's not that harassment of men doesn't happen, it's that women are far more likely to get harassed and have it be gendered and much worse (source: http://time.com/3305466/male-female-harassment-online/ ). I've never been harassed because I'm a man. But nearly every one of my female colleagues have been harassed because they're women. Men don't get harassed the same way as women. Their insults are usually directed at opinions, not their gender. Women, on the other hand, usually get BOTH.
It also seems like there's more harassment now than before, but that's because there are more women IN those geek stratus and we ha

I hate complicated things, and Skyrim is a game with a deep and rich history that can be very difficult for newbies like me to get into. Right off the bat the game throws all sorts of names, races, powers, legends, lore, etc at you. Too much of that can be a big turn off (heck I know people who still haven't read Lord of the Rings because there were too many names), but luckily Skyrim does a good job of easing players into the game.
There is a main campaign you have to follow to technically "beat" the game, but you don't have to follow it. The moment I had a chance to break free of the story I did so and I went exploring. That allowed me, a new person unfamiliar with any of the lore of the Elder Scrolls series, to experience the world at my own pace. The world is so e
Mature themes in American AnimationWhen I first discovered Anime, my mind was blown. Here were Japanese animations being made which told adult stories with sex, violence, and all sorts of things I'd never seen before done in American films. As a teenager the constant pandering to children and the reluctance to accept more mature themes and ideas in American animated films pissed me off. Why can't american cartoons be taken more seriously and have stuff for adults too outside of South Park and The Simpsons?Mature themes in American Animation in Personal More Like This
In 1998 Stephen Spielberg tried to change that. After having a successful run of kids cartoons (Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pink and the Brain, etc), he took it a step further by giving us a PRIME TIME cartoon series aimed at adults. It was called "Invasion America." It was a sci-fi epic, featured a slew of big name actors including Leonard Nimoy, and featured more adult oriented themes such as sex, violence, and swearing!
It sucked and was a resounding failure.
The epic plot they were trying to weave would never be compl

I I always thought of Thoreau’s comment as simply a word game — clever but ultimately false at its core. A Valentines Day without a Valentine means being alone and alone means being unhappy. It’s taken many years to finally understand the truth in Thoreau’s words. We are never so alone as when in the company of loving family and friends, our Valentine companion held tight in our arms – but knowing we are lost, unfulfilled in our dreams and visions, and untrusting in our own inner counsel. Anonymous is a big budget Molotov cocktail of a cultural provocation hurled by the producer-director of Godzilla and 2012, Roland Emmerich. He brings the same subtle and nuanced touch he exercised in those films to his latest film, in which he takes up the scorchingly contentious (if little known outside college literature departments) debate ongoing between the “Stratfordians” (those who believe the Shakespeare plays were written by the late-16th Century actor named Shakespeare) and the “Oxfordians” (those who believe the Shakespeare plays were written by Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford

You can thin them with water and use as watercolor (they will remain permanent upon drying, unlike watercolor), apply them in full strength, create textures.9 reasons to appreciate ACRYLICS in Art Features More Like This

Pretty mean, but don't misunderstand. I am not using this term to describe anyone but myself. Self taught artists abound and flourish in careers everywhere.
