A Darkness Within - The Ghost Of Tommy Frank...into the darkness we look, and darkness we find...A Darkness Within - The Ghost Of Tommy Frank in Personal More Like This
April 3rd, 1958
Little Tommy Frank had it rough from the start. He lost his father in the war...a father that he never met. His mother meant well. Between losing her husband, working two jobs and raising a boy alone...she did the best she could. When he was small, sometimes Rosemary would drop him off when things got to be too much. I didn't know her well, but I sympathized with her. My wife passed on back in '48...loss does strange things to a person. I taught the boy to fish. Without a man around, someone needed to teach him to fly right...I helped out when I could.
Even at the age of 9, Tommy was more of a man than most grown men I knew. Kept up his grades...did yard work in the summer to help his mom with expenses. It's a wonder how this tree could grow so straight with little help from his mother. It's a shame to know this small boy cooks his own meals and puts himself to bed...alone.
There was a drifter that came through town
Urban Exploration - A User's GuideThere's something about an abandoned home. Maybe it's the atmosphere, history, excitement of exploration...or that they photograph well. Everyone is different, but whatever it is for you...it can be a fulfilling experience. If you want to give it a shot...that is.Urban Exploration - A User's Guide in Personal More Like This
The question is always "how do you find these places?". Here's a quick user's guide to Urban Exploration.
As I mentioned in The Beauty Of Decay - Behind The Scenes http://fav.me/d4u9ko9, there's some homework to be done before hitting the road.
Start with places you know:
Off the top of your head you may know of one or two abandoned homes. Before you go all in, you need to know if urban exploration is for you. Poke around some of these places and see what happens. Visiting an abandoned home for the first time is a fascinating experience for some. For other's it's just "meh". If it's something you want to invest yourself in, proceed to the next section.
Finding your next target:
If you haven't figured it out yet, abandoned hom

Bob and Janice were unhappily married. Bob was a drinker...Janice made excuses for the black eyes. Bob never amounted to much as a farmer...spending most of their money on booze. One night after heavy drinking with friends out on the town, Bob disappeared for good. Janice said he never came home...she lived out her life as a widow...happy as can be. Bobs death was declared "accidental"...his body never found...but everyone knew what happened. He had every bit of it coming. Janice passed in the late 70's...with no regrets...
The house, although completely furnished and filled with their belongings, has been empty ever since.
Legend has it Janice got her revenge that night...made his body "disappear". It's been said that if you go there after midnight, a sobbing woman can be heard. Disembodied calls for help come from the now wooded fields. In the home...footsteps can be heard pacing
A Darkness Within - Part 1With the Beauty Of Decay series I wanted to show you the human side of abandonment...the historical significance, and the beauty that could be found.A Darkness Within - Part 1 in Personal More Like This
This is not that series.
Let's explorer the darker side of abandonment. These are the urban legends and ghost stories of the places I explore. Dim the lights and open your minds...let's go off the reservation, shall we?
The Long Forgotten Farm:
Henry and Mildred were a happy couple that enjoyed a long life together. Henry was a farmer...Mildred raised their four children. Henry passed in the late 60's...Mildred followed in the early 70's. They died of old age.
The house has been empty since...
Or has it?
Locals tell tales of strange lights and voices emanating from the home...mostly of a female nature. At times, the sounds and headlights of a truck can be seen and heard on the grounds...disappearing into the now wooded farmstead. More ominous is the report that even though most of the windows have been br
The Beauty Of Decay - Part 5 - ReclamationIn a way, abandoned homes and structures are a metaphor for the human condition. When left alone, everything breaks down...decay sets in...and there's no turning back. People are needed to maintain order. We have a more in common with the things we create than we think. The Beauty Of Decay - Part 5 - Reclamation in Personal More Like This
It's truly amazing to watch nature reclaim what's been left behind. And it doesn't take long. The process of reclamation starts shortly after people have left. Weeds and grass will overtake the property...a telltale sign of abandonment. Fast forward 10 years or more...and you have a clear view of what the post apocalyptic world might look like. Complete disrepair...
Reclamation isn't just an external process. Without a human presence to keep the heat on, and the elements out...paint begins to peel, floors and woodwork warp...mold forms. You've seen this a thousand times in horror movies. A group of teens encounters an old abandoned home...overrun with spider webs and dust...terror ensue
The Beauty Of Decay - Behind The ScenesSo you want to explore old run-down buildings? Great!! You may even know of one or two of them off the top of your head. That'll get you started. But, if you haven't noticed yet, old rusting cars and abandoned houses don't grow on trees. If you have passion for it...you have to do your homework. The Beauty Of Decay - Behind The Scenes in Personal More Like This
Here's one urban explorers unedited look at what really goes on behind the scenes...
Similar to an archaeologist...most of an urban explorer's time is spent doing research, scouting locations...and...driving. And...more driving. Did I mention you do a lot of driving? Mostly down desolate dirt roads and old highways...searching for that one gem...an abandoned property with photographic potential. But, once you find it...it's not over. Unless you want to get fined for trespassing...or worse, ARRESTED...you need to find out who owns it. And that involves research, phone calls and awkward conversations. But again, if you have passion for it...it's well worth it...

Having been thinking a lot about the origins of our globally held Dragon mythos in a recent article Reptilicus Infernicus, I couldn’t help but notice the Cthulhu legend was always lurking at the edges of my mind as I was researching the subject matter.
The Enemy at the Gates, the “Other”, forever lurking in the darkness and plotting an invasion most evil and an enslavement most hideous, is probably the original seminal “narrative” that was born when humans first acq

If you guys want to help me out, I'd really appreciate it, you can donate to my donation pool just above this post if your reading from my main page. Maxwell will cost me about £60 to get, though in USD its $100. Im broke right now, sad face.
Anyway, high hopes that Maxwell will turn out good, its already been tested with my new TI 22 Orca
Though this is the Twilight Render version, Im having some issues which I still need to figure out with Maxwell with things l

Having recently completed a manned mission to their neighbour planet using an experimental FTL drive, the signature was large enough for Aquarion scouts to pick up. The Aviros Confederacy operate a Democracy style government with voting and a presidency. Although unlike human democracy, the government isnt allowed to vote. With little more than ballistic, conventional weapons and little to no actual space technologies, the Aviros are a very pre-mature entry to the galaxy.
Following a culture of flight, the Aviros people enjoy crafting tools and machines to aid their natural ability to fly. Largly bipedal with 2 main sub-races, the Karos and Deinan's. Karos are known for having both Wings and arms as one, unable to fly naturally, the Deinan's however have separate wings from their arms and long tail feathers enablin

The future of Space Exploration...Following on from the great success of NASA's mission; to land Curiosity safely on Mars and start the epic journey of Two years (hopefully more). To search for evidence that Mars once held life and pave the way for future missions, possibly for (as if this wasn't exciting enough) a Manned Mission to Mars. The Mars-500 Test http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MARS-500 conducted between 2007-2011 to accumulate valuable psychological and medical data on the effects of the planned long-term deep space mission. Not to get ahead of ourselves though, a Manned Mission to Mars is way off yet.The future of Space Exploration... in Personal More Like This

HyperLoopThe future is here with the arrival of the HyperLoop from the Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. His vision for a futuristic transportation system concept involves sleek passenger capsules flying within a tube on a cushion of air. Solar panels along the entire length of the tube provide more power than needed to run the system.HyperLoop in Personal More Like This

Capsules travel just under the speed of sound, at 760 mph (1,220 km/h). Passengers could travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 35 minutes.
I hope we can have a Utopian future where by all the countries across the globe are interconnected by a mega hyperloop.

Some awesome designer comes up with an air powered bike. (Suck on that exhaust Government!) The Revolver forces us to throw away everything we know about moto. At the heart of the design lies a revolving chamber where backup air tanks are stored in sequence to power its compressed-air engine. Like this unique motor, the rest of the bike is likely to be alien to most riders. The Good, The Bad, and The UglyRecently I've been reading through some old magazines from the '50's and '60's: Mechanix Illustrated, Popular Science, and Science & Mechanics. It is a fascinating and nostalgic way of spending spare time. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly in Personal More Like This
The Good: reports on the latest cars, including test drives and owners' feedback. The 1958 Edsel, for instance, was not as well received as some would have you believe. The predictions for the future are often hilarious; they were absolutely certain piston engines would be replaced by turbines!
The Bad: not too bad, really, but a lot of home-made projects at the time used cut-up classic cars. It makes you pine over the number of what were probably perfectly good vehicles that were cannibalized for a transmission or an engine. One example was a hacked Crosley with Chevy engine and Ford tranny.
The Ugly: for the worst in destruction of automotive history there was a report of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dumping "old cars" on the Mississippi to catch drifting debris an

If a car is in restorable shape it should be restored. Like this late '50's Vauxhall Velox:
It says hot rod material but ...
REAL hot rods are made from cars that are too far gone to salvage otherwise.
People who take restorable classics and chop them into their own vision don't realize the car would be worth more in its original state.
"Restored" means returned to factory condition, not customized in any way. I'm not against rods and customs at all, but I'm totally in favour of restored vehicles too. There's fewer of the classics every day.
Bloody dA smeg-up caused a double post again!

Admiral Angriff Scabaros, Evisorok commander of the Nightside fleet over Oolan VI, took the increasingly distressing reports with a false veneer of calm on his salmon-colored face. No self-respecting commander would ever use the word panic, but the increasing numbers of enemy vessels were starting to make even him nervous.
