Illustration Contest Mark II (One week to go!)4.23 The deadline approacheth! For those of you still working on your entries, better get a move on!
This was such a success last year that I'm doing it again for my 25th birthday!
Pick your favorite story from the list below and draw a scene or characters from it! I try to be diverse in my writing; Action, drama, science fiction, romance, humans, robots... There should be something in there for everybody. This year's pool has some old classics and some new favorites. Some characters have reference pictures already, but some have never been visually depicted before. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Some stories contain characters that belong to other people but feel free to draw them as well. You may enter as many times as you like.

They say a picture can tell a thousand words... but what about a thousand words telling a picture? That's the goal of every writer, and if they're not Alan Moore, then seeing their work brought to life through someone else's imagination is one of the greatest thrills of writing. This year I held my second contest challenging artists to breathe their life into my words, and this year's entries have astounded me. Last year's entries were good, but this year's were more and better, and it blew me away. I feel both honored and disappointed that I cannot reward more of you.
But I had to choose. It was not an easy choice, and in the end I had to turn to the advice of some trusted friends and discuss the merits of these pieces with them. I both love and hate this part, because as much as I know I'm making some peoples' days, I know I have to break a few hearts (or at least disappoint them) too. And so, without any more adi
Contest: Crossovers! As kids, we often mashed our toys together, regardless of Copyright. Superman would take command of G.I. Joe to defeat the combined forces of Doctor Doom and the Decepticons, while Barbie took a break from her idealistic lifestyle to become a Pokemon master. And the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got recruited into Starfleet and taught Spock the wonders of pizza. (And from the furor arose Mister Rogers in a blood-stained sweater.)Contest: Crossovers! in Official DeviantArt Contests More Like This
And thus, the Crossover was born. It's something we never really outgrew, either. To this day, seeing our favorite characters from different stories meet and compete is a guilty pleasure that we all like to indulge in. So now's your chance to indulge yourselves for prizes!
Why I Thumb My Nose at Shipping"[W]hy do you hate "shipping?" What makes it so uncreative?"Why I Thumb My Nose at Shipping in Art Features More Like This
This question was put to me in a recent thread in the devART literature forums. I wrote a rather comprehensive answer to that question, and now for the sake of posterity I am posting it in a journal to save myself the hassle of writing it over and over again. The next time this subject comes up, answering will be as easy and linking them here:
While it's one thing to build on the Ship Teases of the original writers (I get just as frustrated by Will They or Won't They? moments as anyone else, and I can see where someone might want to pick up where they think a writer let them down), it's another matter all together to just slap two random characters together because you think they look "hot together."
Love is an extremely personal thing. You can't just fall in love with anyone. A
Wolf BrothersHe had always known he was different from the other wolves. And therein lay the key of his difference: knowing. When he looked into the eyes of his packmates, they did not flicker with the candlelights of souls behind them. The same complicated emotions that he himself felt, he could not sense coming from his brethren. In a way, he envied them. They all seemed so blissful, so content, even in moments of strife. Just being different was enough to weigh heavily upon him, and the fact that he could comprehend worry when the others could not became in and of itself a vicious cycle. Was there something wrong with him? Why did existence itself have to be such a yoke?Wolf Brothers in Short Stories More Like This
There was only one like him his blood-brother, his littermate. When their eyes met they could have complex conversations with a combination of their expressions and their emotional connection. They had their own language. They knew and understood each other. Little Brother had the same emotions that he did th
The Value of LifeAn entire solar cycle had passed since the battle but the smoke still clogged the air and engulfed visibility beyond a few meters. The acrid smell clogged vents and burned olfactory sensors. But even the swirling mass of pollution could not hide all the horrific results of war. Corpses strewed the ground, many mangled and twisted into positions that seemed disturbingly aberrant even for a race of contortionists. No matter where he cast his spotlights, spiderweb patterns shimmered indications of dried streams of spilled energon; energon that had once pumped through the circuits of living 'Bots and 'Cons. The Value of Life in Drama More Like This
His tire treads crunched over the corpses. It was more than his suspension system could absorb and he felt his frame rocking back and forth, feeling every body he ran over and every helmet that collapsed sickly underneath. But it was preferable to walking. Tires were one thing using his feet would be much, much more personal.

Transformers OC Collaboration Now With MatchupsTake a look at TommyGK’s past two massive (and frankly impressive) collaboration projects:Transformers OC Collaboration Now With Matchups in Deviant Events More Like This
Inspirational, no? Okay so, this isn't fanficcy, but it is something I've always wanted to do--for Transformers. But we all know how the Transformers fandom loves their OCs. So that’s what we’re going to do! Transformers from any continuity are welcome!
But I don’t want just an image of characters standing around. Transformers needs excitement. It needs violence. :iconmegatronyesplz: So! If you’re interested, post:
The name of your OC, and a picture if you have one.
What continuity they hail from
How you can best contribute artistically--line art, colors, etc.
I'll make a list of every participant and pair you off. The two partners will work together to create a match-off between their Autobots, Decep
On Photographing Robots in PublicSo apparently, the question on people's minds is: "When you take pictures of Transformers in public, how do people react??"On Photographing Robots in Public in Personal More Like This
I cannot believe how many times I've been asked this question recently. I didn't realize this was such a hot topic, seriously. At first I tried answering people individually, but that got to be a bit of typing, so I thought I'd just put this journal together. So, by popular request, I give you people's reactions to me taking pictures of robots in public, whee!
1. People ignore me. Seriously, this is what happens about 95% of the time. People just act like I don't exist.
2. People look at me sideways. Honestly? I think most of these people are just curious about what I'm doing, but are too shy to ask.
3. People look freaked out, or even upset. This happens less often, but it does happen. I think people are just afraid of what they don't understand, and it ruffles their feathers that some weird girl is snapping pix of robots in the middle of
Best Transformers Toy of 2012?Ok, my lovely peeps, it's time to vote. What was the best Transformers toy of 2012?Best Transformers Toy of 2012? in Personal More Like This
I bought a bunch of exceptional figures this year, but for sheer cartoon accuracy, fun transformation, and cutey-wootieness, I have to give the award to AM-12 Breakdown. He's just a chunk of huckleberry love, and I can't get enough of him. From his face sculpt to his awesome little rhinocerous micron who I have named Jayne (100 points to anyone getting that reference), Breakdown takes the cake.
I will add however that the PRID Vehicons are a strong runner up, and nearly took top prize for me altogether. Extra bonus points for the sheer awesome that is the jet Vehicon. I love my Kevin.
So pony up: who's the single best TF toy of the year? It has to be someone who came out in 2012.
For today's extra pic, Breakdown gives you a kiss:
