Autumn doesn't want to leave us this year here.
The trees still have strong red autumn colors which were amplified by the warm sunset lights... with the beautiful display of clouds above, it was a quite impressive sight !

A beautiful sunrise from november with some crackin' red light.
It was taken from a natural hill with many bushes and some interesting ground : it was covered in green moss and the brown heather was red in the sun... with the fog down the valley, this scene made some strange effect, it was quite magical and a bit otherworldly.

Rochefort (Loire), France.

That was the sunrise of the 23 September, the first day of autumn... and that was a very good beginning!
Magnificent clouds and fog down the valleys... Here I was into a swamp and as I wanted, I had the orange sunrise light through the mist.

This year we had a long autumn season. The weather was still pretty warm in November. The trees kept some colored leaves late in the season.

This photo was taken in the heights of Thiers, not far from home. I really enjoyed the sky and the view with autumn colors.

Favourites and comments are welcome. Thank you =)

The early morning haze rises very fast to let the sun shine whole an autumn day.

Just under the sun, we can see mount Olan 3500m high, in the french alps.

Favourites and comments are welcome. Thank you =)

The 2012 landscape calendar is now available! Go check it out ;)

It was sunny all the way, but just above the lakes there was a big cloud which wouldn't move. It made it freezing cold, but there was no wind.

Myself and Shem Compion went on a 5 day trip to Mpumalanga in January to explore the Africa's 2nd largest Canyon. One of Shem’s friend’s told us about this place on the other side of the Canyon that no one ever sees. After a long drive along unmarked and overgrown roads we got a concrete pass that quickly ascended through the tropical forest mist-belt and arrived atop Mariepskop in misty weather. We drove around and the scenery was a mix of mossy vegetation, military hardware and views of the lowveld that stretched forever. When it cleared occasionally we saw that there was a storm cloud over the main escarpment with a nice high-cloud anvil that would make for a a great sunset. We parked and decided to try and get to the escarpment edge, but the terrain of rock stacks and dense vegetation proved impossible to negotiate. We got about 100m from the road, made a u-turn and about 45 minutes later we were back at the car, exhausted and scratched all over. Using an Ipad and google earth we determined where the edge was closest to the road, drove there and found a seldom used track leading to the cliff edge. In front of us lay the back side of the three rondavels and the sun was about 20 minutes from reaching the gap in the clouds. We scouted for compositions, set up and waited for the light. As the first beams burst out below the clouds and creeped over the far hills the adrenaline started pumping (only landscape photographers can get an adrenaline rush from sunsets!). As the sun dipped below the horizon, the mist closed in and we headed back to car with a very big smile on our faces.

The cracked pans of the Tsaucheb Valley reflect the unbelievably intense orange glow caused by the last sunlight shining in below a summer rain storm.

While shooting this sunset I was on all fours because my body was all that I could use to shelter my camera from the rain. After about 90 minutes of shooting in the rain, the pan I had comfortably walked onto turned into a muddy playground that made walking a very slippery challenge. I've never seen such bright colours in my life...it was like seeing the world through a blood-red filter. The water reached Sossus the next day.

A stunning red sky over the Saxon Switzerland in late autumn. The high location of the lookout point offers a wide view across innumerable mountain peaks of the Schrammsteine all the way to the River Elbe and the mountains Gorisch, Papenstein and Lilienstein.A stunning red sky over the Saxon Switzerland in late autumn. A picturesque sunrise above the Alps with view of the Grat Mountain between Diepen and Rophaien. The grass on the mountain slopes appears very soft in the morning light. The contrast between light and shadow accentuates the curved slopes of the Grat very nicely.

A storm blew through the valley as we ascended Angel's Landing hike in Zion National Park. Fortunately this wasn't a lightning storm so I was able to hike and photograph with out worry.

The immensely beautiful Zion Canyon as seen from the Angel's Landing trail. I've been to this spot on a couple of different occasions but never with camera and tripod. I knew there would be weather on this evening and was hoping for light just like this. After a grueling pace, our group made it to the top of the 1500 ft tall monolith, just in time for me to capture this view and beat the storm to the top.

Angel's Landing hike is one of the more famous in the National Park system. In a few points during the hike, there are vertical drops thousands of feet to the valley floor on either side. About a quarter mile is done scrambling up a path while clinging to chains the park service has kindly drilled into the sandstone.

Check out this video I found on youtube of the hike... set to mildly over dramatic audio: [link] (not my video)
