They used to be so happy.
It was a year ago today when it happened. Arthur remembered it clearly. He remembered how much it had hurt; he remembered how his heart felt as though it were physically being ripped in half when his husband uttered the words to him. He thought the pain he felt within those three seconds may very well kill him. Even the fires of Hell would not hurt as much as this. It was those four words which caused Arthur to do what he did.
Those four words changed everything.
I don't love you.
Arthur remembered how he had begged. He had promised he would change, he would promise to be a better husband; he had promised to be a better Queen to the King. But Alfred had shaken his head. He had said no. He wouldn't allow it. He had made his decision and he would never back down on it.
Arthur had cried like he had never cried before. How could this be happening? This couldn't be happening, not to him. Alfred loved him. He kn

The servants England had employed to look after little America while he was away had the small nation looking his best. They made breakfast and it took all their best efforts to make sure that the excited little boy didn't get it all down his clean clothes.
"I can't wait!" America beamed. The boy was practically bouncing in his chair. The servants merely offered him a smile and told him to eat up. England would be here soon.
The moment America finished breakfast, he ran to the door and stood in front of it with a big smile. After a moment he sat down and looked at the door and soon after that he sighed and stood up again. He wandered to the ki
Protection and ResponsibilityPirate Captain Arthur Kirkland burned down ships, stole treasure and attacked towns. He knew how to do that pretty well. Did he know how to raise a child? The answer would be a big, fat NO.Protection and Responsibility in General Fiction More Like This
The Englishman encountered the child while conducting an attack on a ship. He was a ruthless man who would kill anyone who dared obstruct his path. However, he would never hurt a child, and if he had known this ship had a child on board he would never have targeted it.
He found the little boy cowering away from the crew behind a barrel. The boy had fair hair with a stubborn strand that seemed to defy gravity by standing up straight, and his eyes were as blue as the sky itself. His cheeks were rosy and tear-streaked and his lips puffed out in a cute little pout. He wore a white nightgown with a red bow around the collar and in his hands he clutched a stuffed toy in the form of a white bunny. Even though he would never ever say this out loud, Arthur thought the child looked adorable.

He lived in a remote area in the country side, which meant that the night sky was always clear and bright. He could see everything. The sky was like a blanket encrusted with tiny diamonds and the American often found himself staring at it for hours.
Alfred loved space; he loved everything to do with it. When he was younger he had always said that he was going to be an astronaut, he always said he was going to go to places unknown and make history. Among the teen's posters of various superheroes scattered around his room, there were also posters of planets, stars, galaxies... you name it. Not to mention the various Star Wars and Star Trek posters and figurines he had lying around.
Alfred was just a big geek.
And Arthur loved him for it.
Alfred looked up from his telescope (watching the sky was another hobby) and smiled a little at the thought of his secret boyfriend. They had been dating for near six months and they hadn't told a single

He should be here, holding him close and telling him that he loved him. He should be here, telling him that they would be together forever, but he wasn't.
Arthur didn't know where he was.
He stood from his place on the couch and wandered into the kitchen. The scent of burnt food lingered in the air even when the British nation opened the window. He should be in here now, laughing at the mess the Brit had made. He should be in here, making those God-awful burgers he liked to call food in replacement of Arthur's scones.

Another day was over and England couldn't wait to get home. He just wanted to sit down with a cup of tea and a good book. When he finally arrived at his large London house, he unlocked the door, stepped inside with a sigh and locked the door again. As he removed his shoes, he paused and listened.
Something didn't feel right.
There was an ominous feeling in the air. It was strange and England couldn't quite place it. He didn't think anything happened before he left so he couldn't work out what it was. Uneasy with the atmosphere, he decided to walk around the house to investigate.
As he checked the room around the house, he started to realise what this feeling was.
It was the feeling of magic... but not only that. It was the feeling of magic when it went wrong.

Ten years, Alfred knew. Ten years ago Alfred had passed that gate, not being aware of any of the consequences. He couldn't blame that little eight years old boy he used to be for that though. He was so ignorant back then, the most ignorant of them all.

Alfred felt the urge to go with his fingers through the thin golden threads, but nervously played with his silver army necklace instead. Arthur's green eyes looked down on Alfred thoughtfully.
"Are you already thinking of breaking it? Do you already regret making such a reckless promise?" Arthur spat out as if the words disgusted him.
Alfred tightened the grip on his necklace to stop himself from bursting out. The last thing he needed on this moment was a fight with a vampire. The pain of the sharp edges of the necklace cutting into Alfred's skin was not enough to make his hand bleed, but enough to let him realize he was still as mortal as ever.

Quickly, he pulled on a pair of slightly baggy jeans and an orange T-shirt. He rushed to the door, pulling it open to see a narrow-eyed Prussian leaning on the entrance. A small, yellow bird chirped on top of his shaggy head.
"H-Hi, Gil. Do you need something?" The timid Canadian asked hesitantly under the red glares.
But, they didn't last long, as the Prussian couldn't keep up the angry act and laughed. "Ha! You should've seen your face when you thought I was mad! Admit it, the awesome me is an amazing acto

As his emerald eyes fluttered open as the morning sun glistened on his pale eye lids, he was shocked at what he saw and felt. He stared down, wide eyed with a burst of shock that felt like a quake. His heart beat inside his chest so hard as he watched Alfred he felt as if it would break his ribs to pieces.
The younger nation was still sleeping, snoring noisily, but his muscular arms were wrapped firmly around the Brit's torso again. His bed head was pressed unconsciously against Arthur's chest and Arthur could feel the man pressed against him lovingly.
At first, he thought he was dreaming. But, he pinched himself so roughly and rapidly that it began to turn a dark shade of red on his arm. He knew he wasn't dreaming then.
Then, Arthur found himself trembling, and throbbing. He was so afraid Alfred would wake up because he didn't want this to end but at the s

Alfred actually turned his game consol off, a sign itself of the seriousness of this matter, and turned to regard the small Englishman staring back at him with a slight scowl and unwavering determination.
"I said we need to stop seeing each other."
Really, they hadn't been having any problems despite all of their worries. Sure, they teased one another. Well, Alfred teased and Arthur mocked out of embarrassment, but it was more a show of affection then anything else. And while they lived so far away, countries drifting slightly further apart each year a fact that Alfred has sulked over for the entirety of a week before Arthur smiled and knocked some sense into him- , they seemed to spend more time together then apart. It was only a few months ago that Arthur realised he practically lived with Alfred, but it only pushed him to give in and admit just how serious

Their visits were hardly able to quench the desire to be close to each other, feel the others presence and grasp those moments of just being home. True, they manage to regularly take time out to see each other but it simply never seemed enough. Finally that time comes around; Arthur brimming with carefully concealed excitement as the two settle back into his home to spend the week together...and Alfred falls ill.
So. Bloody. Typical.
It was hardly the lad's fault; England's weather hadn't been the most pleasant considering the time of year and it was always a possibility. Besides an earlier cold, his stomach hadn't been terribly pleased - as far as to turn down his favourite Mc Donald's meal, and no it hadn't been caused by Arthur's cooking thank you very much.
It was always strange to see the boisterous American so sluggish, wanting nothing more than to lie in bed watching movies all day. Of course, this kind of activity, cuddled toget

"On the contrary, I find it rather charming" Closing his eyes briefly, and putting down his tea, Arthur folded his hands over his knees.
"I'm not going to beat around the bush here Alfred, I think you need to know the truth as to why you were invited here. We have been conversing for a long time, and despite myself I honestly thought you were female, not that I'm disappointed, but you must be able to see where I'm going with this"
Alfred wasn't that dense, right?
Whatever Alfred had been planning on saying after his accent was referred to as charming was sucked away as he took in Arthur's next words. He stared at the other blankly, blinking as he tried to process this.
It was such an honest, obvious thing to say that he really couldn't believe it. "
You thought I was a chick?" He finally said, voice softer than it had been before. The moment he said it himself was the oment it finally clicked in his head.

Airplane food sucks.
Alfred squirmed in the seat, his blue eyes fixed upward at the fasten seatbelt sign, managing a polite smile to the flight attendant as she took away the tray of food, tossing it into a trash bag. Okay, it had been a nasty in-flight meal, but at least he'd gotten something.
Besides, he grinned to himself, he'd be able to pick up some Mickey D's or something when the plane finally stopped taxi-ing.

It would have been easy to push Arthur away, but Alfred couldn't do it.
After all, he was so little!
What if he hurt him?
He did turn away when his face was tilted up, trembling slightly. He knew he couldn't actually fight back or do anything physical to force Arthur away; sure, Alfred was strong, but he really didn't enjoy hurting people, even when he was cornered like this.
But that didn't mean he enjoyed this.
He shrunk further into the chair, as though trying to melt away, force himself away from this entire scenario, and Arthur's words.
"No!" He shook his head insistently, his heart pounding so hard it was difficult to hear, let alone think straight. "I mean, maybe I thought you were cute and stuff before, but that was before I realized you were straight. I mean--before I realized you were such a jerk! Huffing, Arthur pulled from Alfred, standing up and all but marching towards the door, ready to deck whoever it was that dared to interrupt him while he was working his magic! As he yanked the door open, Arthur scowled at the lad on the other side of the door, who was visibly shaking in his boots.
"Uh... delivery?" the voice cracked, making him seem weaker and weaker as he cowered behind the outstretched boxes, wrapped in a plastic bag.
Feeling his eye twitch, Arthur handed the boy some money, telling him to keep the change as they swapped. Kicking the door shut with his foot, Arthur calmed himself, plastering a smile on his scowling face, walking past the living room and calling over his shoulder.
"We eat at the dining table, please follow me"

Catching red out of the corner of his eye, Arthur glanced to see a very shocked post woman. Ah, he knew the kitchen counter hadn't been a good idea.
Blushing, Arthur was glad that Alfred was covering him, his head dropping onto Alfred's shoulder as his own started to shake with laughter.
Oh he would never live this down.
Hearing Arthur laugh had startled Alfred, who immediately assumed he was being laughed at. The kiss certainly eased his worries, as did Arthur's words, his suggestive tone, the way he pulled him close.
"Mm, learning's good," He said, rather stupidly in fact (stupid enough that even Alfred was aware of how dim his words made him seem). "Jeez, if learning had been this rewarding before, I wouldn't have dropped out of med school."
It took the American a few moments to actually process the woman at the window.

Arthur wasn't a worry wart, of course not, the fact that his long term penpal didn't turn up at his house at one like agreed with nothing to worry about.
But as the minutes ticked by, and suddenly became an hour, Arthur was very worried.
What if the poor thing had been mugged - he knew he should have met her at the airport, silly independent American.
But because he didn't worry, he most certainly did not call up the airport to make sure the plane didn't crash... the thought hadn't even crossed his mind.
Nor did he turn on the news to make sure there was no car crashes, or the local radio station.
That would just be silly.
Another silly thing to do would be to try and make a good impression on this lass, it wasn't like he had gone all out, he usually wore waistcoats to great people he's never met before. Of course. He stumbled to his feet, realizing he'd fallen asleep with his shoes still on, kicking those off, and tripping around in the room, tying the blanket around his neck almost like a cape.
Oh god, what was that noise? He swore he heard something creaking.
Alfred didn't whimper; that would be totally pathetic.
But he did cringe, glancing around in the dark as he tried to figure out just where Arthur might be. He fumbled around in the dark before he finally found a bedroom.

Truthfully, the American was being a lot bolder and braver than he felt- right now, he was a bit shy, but he also wanted to boast and laugh obnoxiously and rub in Matthew's face that yeah he had matured down there at last!

England said in a near whisper. A faint smile adorned his face as he looked up at the American who grinned back, the reflection of the sun bouncing off his glasses. It was early evening when he arrived at America's door steps, yet the sun still glowed brightly in the late July sky. "I guess. I'm just happy it's over." America shrugged as he lifted the other's suitcase off the ground and entered the house, England following suit.

After finding himself alone in the room immediately after entering, he began to roam around, acquainting himself with it once more. It hadn't changed much.

His fingers and toes twitched unconsciously, begging and pleading for him to escape into the sanctuary of Arthur's room like he had when he was younger. Of course there was no way he would or could ever comply.
Arthur was here merely on business, not leisure! It was be extremely rude, not to mention slightly embarrassing, if Alfred showed up and asked to share a room just because he was afraid of a little storm. How could he ever call himself a hero when he couldn't even stand one measly storm without breaking into a cold sweat?
An unexpected burst of lightning startled the young nation, causing a series of c

Chapter 2: Family is a terrible thing
The house was dark and silent. There was no laughter or children playing in the yard. All the windows watched me with black empty glares as I walked to the front porch of my old Victorian home.
I waited. I waited. I waited. I sighed.
Nothing. No joyous cries of 'Arthur!' or 'Brother!'. It's not as if I was expecting anyone to actually be home. No, hope was just a cruel trick of the mind. I never 'expected' anything anymore.
Trudging into the kitchen gloomily, I examined the cold room for the usual note. It was stuck to the fridge.
"Took the girls to the amusement park. We'll be gone awhile. Heat up some food for dinner. Do the chores. Don't break anything. Mom"
How nice, she actually signed this one.
I crumpled it up and tossed it into the waste bin. The notes she wrote were a waste of time. I'd always come home and be expected to clean the house, the

War of 1812:
Our feet pounded loudly as we ran down the cobblestone street. Windows and doors slammed shut, leaving nothing but an echoing bang to follow us as we trailed off into the night. Candles that once cast warm happy glows in windows were harshly blown out to not attract attention to the residents fearfully shaking within.
It didn't matter though. Nothing mattered right now, except for one thing. One crucial important thing. We had to burn down his heart.
Eventually, after much marching and wrong turns, we came upon the building that loomed over us like the moon's shadow.
Next to me, Canada shivered nervously.
"Are y-you sure we should do this?" His violet eyes glowed with uncertainty in contrast to the inky blackness of night.
I knew what he was really asking. 'Can you do this?'
I don't blame him for asking. In the previous war, I had been unable to strike America down and end the war, in my favor at least. But this time was different. This time I kn

The first one I noticed was an albino boy with a was that a chick? sitting in his snowy hair. I didn't even think live animals were allowed in here, but nobody was stopping him. His German accent was thick and sounded different from others I've heard.
To make matters weirder, every other word out of his mouth was 'awesome'.
Sitting next to him was a platinum blonde boy with piercing blue eyes and an intimidating aura. He sat stiffly and seemed transfixed with the dozing red-head across from him.
Looks like we had a real batch of winners this year.
It was hard to tell each nationality from one another because they all sat together and spoke at once. Some sat quietly and watched while others were practically screaming out of excitement and hyperactivity.
It was odd to see this year's group get along so well. The previous years, all the exchange students shied away from everyone, including each other. This year, they all looked so..so..fr

School dragged along as my mind continued to wander off to thoughts of Alfred. How did he manage to guilt me into this afternoon's future events?
Normally I had no trouble declining any unwanted offers, but when I saw Alfred's face, something inside me wouldn't let me say no.
How did he do it? No one, not even my sisters (who were probably the only people I cared for at the present moment) could change my mind once it was made up. And yet, he made it look so easy. He made it look like he'd been doing it his whole life.
When the bell finally released us, I took my time at my locked, wondering if I should just skip this whole affair. I knew I couldn't though.
First of all, my duties as a gentleman wouldn't allow me to blow off someone, even if they are Alfred. Secondly, I had to figure out how someone I barely knew could have me so tightly wrapped around his finger.
Perhaps I was overreacting. It was only one measly afternoon. It's not like it was a date.

I walked to school the next morning. 'Mom' had taken the car when she abandoned me, so I was stuck walking until I could afford to buy my own.
My thoughts drifted to fantasies of me spending hours in the library reading with no one demanding I come home, and then ignoring me when I do.
Suddenly, I hit a wall of muscle and flesh. I stumbled back, arms flailing like a pinwheel. The person I'd run into's hand shot out and caught my wrist.
"Artie! Good morning dude! You okay?"
Oh great! Of all the people! Why did the world hate me so?
"Dude, you ok? You look kinda pale."
"Bloody wanker! Kindly move!" I pulled away and attempted to maneuver around him, but he purposefully blocked me.
"So hey, I just wanted to apologize for yesterday. I didn't mean to freak you out. I know I can get a little overwhelming at times."
That was the understatement of the century.
"Bugger! You didn't scare me! I just can't stand your presence."
He laughed. That wanker had the nerve

I couldn't make a simple batch of cookies for America.
I glared at the cookie tray resting warmly in my trembling fingers. Small scorched blobs protruded from the tray. Smoke seeped through the holes in their cracked, but gooey, surface. Somehow the laws of nature didn't seem to apply or like me. They were burnt....well....seared really and yet, they still managed to stay under-cooked the entire time.
Alfred tried to hide his grimace.
"This looks like the best batch yet Artie! I'm serious, let me have one." His hand shot out, quicker than it should have but I snatched the tin back faster.
His fake cheeriness only seemed to rub my continual failure in further.
"Liar," I spat with a scowl. Turning quickly, I threw the tray against the wall and smiled angrily at the comforting CRACK that resounded through the house. My failure splattered the walls as

It was a really cold day in December, the 24th to be exact, as Alfred F. Jones looked out at the snow that was forming on the ground. He kept thinking of one person that he really wanted to see this Holiday but what with the snow and how deep it was getting, he was afraid that the man wasn't going to be able to see him. He sighed and turned away from the window so that he can look at the fire that he had started a while ago, he put his hot chocolate down to add more wood for the fire.
After adding another piece of wood he turned to look at his tree that he and his lover put up together. He looked at a particular ornament that had a picture of him and his lover Arthur Kirkland in it. In the picture Alfred was holding Arthur in a big bear-hug with a huge grin on his face, and Arthur laughing slightly more than likely about the attitude of the American at the time.
Alfred smiled at the memory of taking the picture with the Brit. He walked back to his drink and picked it up just to stand a

It was a cold cold night in New York as Alfred F. Jones was standing near the window watching the weather from a not so much warmer house. Alfred was looking so intently out the window that he failed to notice the footsteps coming over to him. "Alfred?" He heard behind him. He turned and noticed his British lover Arthur Kirkland standing a couple feet away from him with a tired and slightly worried expression.
"Oh hey Artie, I didn't know you were still up." He said to Arthur, who had what looked like papers and a book in his arms, "Well yes" Arthur replied, "I haven't really been asleep just yet. I was finishing up a project that my boss assigned me to finish for tomorrow." Arthur finished explaining and ended with a yawn.
Alfred chuckled a little and walked over to the Brit, "Well, are you finished now?" Arthur looked up at the American now standing in front of him and said, "Yes I am actually, why?" Alfred smiled and took what was in the Brits arms and put them

Arthur laid in his bed taking heavy breathes.
'This is bad...' he thought to himself.
He sat up in his bed and put his head in his hands and just keeps breathing.
'I don't want to go to this meeting today...' he thought.
He got up slowly from his bed and headed to his bathroom, he splashed some cold water in his face and stared at himself in the mirror for moment then started to get undressed to take a shower.
He stepped into the water and let the warmth of it surround him.
'All I have to do is get through this day with no problems...hopefully...'
It was a day of a world meeting and it was being held in America, Arthur wasn't really looking forward to going to the meeting and especially not looking forward to seeing that annoying American that he knew would start yammering about other things than the meeting, like the one day that Arthur hated the most that he knew was getting closer and closer, 'Greeeeeat...' he thought to himself while he got on
A USUK ValentineValentines Day, tch just the thought of it made him sick. 'It's a stupid holiday' thought Arthur Kirkland, he didn't even know why it was celebrated. Arthur hated this stupid holiday for more than one reason, one: it was stupid in general to have a holiday all about love. Two: he never got anything anyway, and some people don't, so why torture them by pointing out the fact that they didn't have anyone? And Three: ..the only valentines he ever got was from Francis....and not a card oh no it could never be a simple card from the moronic French country...it was always something more....that he never EVER wanted.
Arthur sighed as he walked to the hall where the world meeting was being held today. Today of all days and of course it was being held in Franc

Alfred was in the waiting room trying to distract himself with game on his iphone. But even that couldn't keep his mind from wandering and the constant worry of his British friend in the other room who was sick and who knows how badly he was sick, or even how long??
Alfred just was not able to keep his mind from going down morbid paths about what was going on with Arthur, 'Why am I so freakin worried about him?...Maybe it's because I was his former colony?...No that's not what I'm feeling right now or..have been for while now...' Alfred thought to himself not even noticing the nurse coming into the room till she spoke.
She coughed fairly lowly but loud enough for the American to hear her. "For Mr. Kirkland?" she asked. "Yes" he answered standing up, "how is he doing?" He asked the nurse. The nurse looked down at her clipboard for a moment and answered, "He's suffering from a slight fever but the doctor gave him something to bring it down, so he should be fine now." Al

A Scottish Fold sat on the arm of the couch of his owner's home watching outside the large windows as the birds came and went on the bird feeder just outside the windows. He just sat there watching them wishing he could get out and chase them.

Arthur Kirkland, age five, the youngest of the Kirkland kids, turned a bit to try and see his brother the best he could, "Brother...why do I have to wear this?" Scott finished tying the back of the dress and looked over his work again before saying, "Well, you want people to notice and like you right? Everybody likes a pretty girl."
Arthur looked sad for a moment before asking, "Why do I need a dress and make-up for somebody to like me?"
Scott grabbed Arthur's hand and walked him over to where the make-up was and said, "Well, no one wants a little boy who has as big a eye-brows that you have, hair this choppy, and a face that generally disgraces our family name. Unless you want that, do you?"
