It seems not so long ago that we saw a young boy from Jersey meet up with a wise karate master super and taught him that waxing cars wasn't so different from defending yourself.
The Karate Kid saga was John G. Alvidsen's Rocky for kids (Not surprising, since he directed both). It's a love story about a boy getting picked on, only to rise up, face his confronters and be with the girl he loves.
The franchise has had its ups and downs certainly: the First was great save for the occasional foray into 80's music choice. The Second was a classic for me: Daniel and Mr. Miyagi go to Okinawa in order to face Mr. Miyagi's past and Daniel facing his own bullies. Now, I've heard a lot of people get on the hate wagon for 3, and while it was a bit silly, it had ever present conflict and there was still a fight at the end.

I think I should be honest with you readers: I'm tired of Zack Snyder.
The slo-mo, the green screen effects and yes, even the slow, though occasionally delightful music videos.
"But Burnout!" you say. "Why do you insist on liking Michael Bay films when Zack Snyder's clearly a better director?"
And there's a perfectly good explanation for that.
You see, Michael Bay is a bad director. This was a man recruited for the 'Got Milk?' commercials and seeing him do films has pretty much consistent. The thing is, he's such a lousy director it's almost humorous trying to stumble over big concepts that his films are either so brain-dead or hilarious to the point of laughing.
But Zack Snyder has potential. I see his films and I can see moments of greatness leaking out. He understands themes, big concepts and even some greater events. He has the potential to make great films but doesn't make great films, instead catering to a niche audience.

Twilight is many things to many people. To the dedicated it's a forbidden romance novel for the ages. To the critics, it is a piece of tripe that can only be enjoyed by 16 year old girls or somewhere near that demographic, I'm not sure. This, of course, has caused nothing short of riots, fights and the usual post war to occur.
But to me, Twilight is simply a story about alternate vampires. Such as I am, I am completely indifferent to it.
Let me explain the concept of indifference: Indifference means I don't really care whether the series succeeds or fails. To me, after watching the movie and reading the book, I am for the most part unchanged.

Anyway, James Cameron has always been known for being a director of sci-fi, and a very good director at that. However, in 1997, he came out with the behemoth Titanic which threw everyone off, including the Academy.

I remember the first time I thought one can do a really cool and unique Star Trek fan series. I stumbled upon the site hosting the adventures of the USS Tamerlane some months ago and I immediately grew fond of the ship and her crew. It was so much different than anything Trek I've known before.
During that time, I finished my Constitution mesh (NB: I need to re-mesh that too) and it led to many kitbashes from the Viribus Unitis to the Voroshilov. I was playing around a compact secondary hull I intended to be for the USS Lydia Sutherland, said to be Kirk's first command by Vonda McIntyre, when the spark flashed in my mind: let's combine it with Connie elements. I envisioned a small, old, underpowered ship and I named it Polaris due to its vague similarity to a ship found in the DS9 technical manual.

"Starship Polaris" takes place in the mainstream Star Trek universe. It features one main line and one "pocket universe", the latter incorporating the ENT era. I say "pocket universe" because I see ENT that way, being created by Picard's time jump in "First Contact". As "canon" for the past, I accept Masao Okazaki's timeline and starship designs.
In the following timeline, I reckon with the "sliding timeline" used by Trek, that is, modifying dates and events to fit real-world historical occurrenses. Star Trek is fiction, thus creating a fictional historical background different from ours is completely acceptable by me. I try not to contradict elements from the Trek history by creating the "past" of the Polaris-Trekverse. I might make deliberate errors to correct some canonical, though ambigous elements. Also, I attempt to create a history that can explain events such as World War III and the Eugenics Wars, as well as the rapid space

How To Save A LifeChapter 1:How To Save A Life in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
It was one of the most strangest things I had ever witnessed in all my time living with the one and only, self-proclaimed, consulting detective. Never in all my wildest fantasies could I have ever imagined what would occur next. But, I suppose I am getting ahead of myself and falling into my old 'telling a story backwards' rut. I wish I could say that I would have to go back to my notes for this one, oh, how I wish it so, but this is one case that is so deeply imbedded into my mind that I will never forget. Not even the slightest of details.
It was a cool, rainy Sunday morning and I was sitting at the table enjoying a lovely breakfast of hard boiled eggs, toast with some charming strawberry jam, and hot tea. The early paper that Mrs. Hudson had brought up with my food was sitting to my left and Holmes, as on a number of occasions, was nowhere to be found. I wasn't too worried by this minor absence. He had gone out a number of times before, to check up on a clue or to watch o

Voices, not just one or two, were rushing up the steps of 221B in quite a hurry. That being the case had meant that Holmes was right about us not having much time. I listened for a moment as the voices grew louder with each pounding step on the stair. "It's this one here!" one of them had said, obviously not caring at all if we could hear them or not.
"But that 'Doctor' will be in there with him!" another whined, spitting out the word 'Doctor' as if it was the most disgusting thing in the universe. I quickly walked over to the door and pressed an ear to it in hopes of counting just how many 'visitors' we had. "Then we'll just have to snag them both, wont we?" a sharper toned man said. I could make out four, very different, laughter’s exploding in the hall just outside the door.
I stepped back just in time to hear one of them knock. It was whiny. "Mr. Holmes, is the 'Doctor' in? We need some help." The four men laughed and pounded on the door. "We know you're both in th

"Holmes." I said again. It was still a bit too early for him, I felt, to be waking up, but to hear his voice again washed away a great deal of my worries. "Take a left." Holmes mumbled into my shoulder. I gave him a quizzical look and he nuzzled his face into my neck. "Cold." he said louder. "So cold." I smiled, getting the hint, and ran to the end of the alley.
"Left." Holmes reminded me and I quickly turned left on my heels. "Right at the corner." I rushed over to the corner and took the indicated right. The streets were empty and I felt that the rain was beginning to let up. "Ignore the next alley and take the one after." I looked back at Holmes and he wrapped his arms around my neck tighter, nuzzling his face to my neck again so I could feel how cold his nose was.
"Yes I get it, you're cold!" I couldn't help but chuckle at my friend’s childish behavior and figured that if we made it out of this mess and he forgets, which he very well might, I would have to tease hi

The rain gutter made a faint creaking sound in protest to the extra weight it now had to support. I listened for a moment, as I clung on to the rain gutter for dear life, to the sounds of the rain pouring down the gutter and the rain beating down against my hat. I will admit to you, my dear reader, that this was not one of my more clever ideas. But something had to be done and fast.
I closed my eyes for a second and tried to calm myself, if only just a little. I had to take this task one step at a time and with the greatest of care. It wasn't just my life I had hanging three stories up. One slip and both Holmes and I would be in a whole new world of trouble. Reopening my eyes, I looked down at the ground below us. Three stories...easy enough. If only the rain would let up.
Holmes was sleeping soundly on my back, his breathing soft and warm on my neck. It tickled slightly and I would have laughed had we been in a different situation. I felt around with my foot for a good plac

I let myself and Holmes free fall for a few seconds then quickly grabbed onto the rain gutter again. My hands slipped so much from all the rain and the speed at which we were falling that I almost didn't catch it at all. In an effort to stop our descend, I used my knees and unconsciously tried to dig my nails into the wall. A pained gasp slipped my lips and I shut my eyes to try and block out the stinging sensation that was racing up my legs and through my fingertips.
When we finally did slide to a halt, Holmes' body jerked and he nearly fell off my back again. Only this time I was prepared for that. I quickly swung an arm back and made a grab for the back of Holmes' coat. In my haste, I swung my head forward a bit too much and slammed it against the wall. Scraping my cheek and forehead on the gutter and brick wall it was connected to.
I cursed my stupidity and looked back at Holmes. He was still fast asleep with his head resting peacefully on my shoulder. If I could have st

"Oh, dear me." the sharper toned man said. I could hear the sarcasm as it oozed off of every word he spoke. "Is there anything we can do to help out poor Mr. Holmes?" The other three men in the hall laughed again, but this time they were shushed. "Come on Doctor, let's go." the sarcasm was gone and the sharper man's tone was replaced with one of irritation. "Come quietly or we're busting in your door."
I looked out the window for a few more seconds then walked back into the other room. I just needed them distracted a little while longer, just a little. Enough time for me to think of another possible way out perhaps? "Alright." I said sighing after some time had passed. "Gives us a minute to grab our coats and we'll be out." The men in the hall began to giggle and I couldn't help but shake my head in disgust.
"That's a good Doctor." the sharper toned man said. "Be sure to bundle up, nice and tight. It's very cold outside." 'Oh, we'll be out alright.' I thought. I gave one

Standing at the now ajar office door, not a hair out of place, was Entwistle Sr. - his wide, steely blue eyes staring expectantly at the back of the chair John sat in. Amanda watched on in exasperation and felt a new tension grip the room, her eyes narrowing. This odious man had not even shown common courteousy by knocking, barging in as if this were his own office and they were wasting his precious time by being in there.
The doctor coughed slightly, his expression blank and unreadable as he gazed at the suit-clad gentlemen now hovering in his doorway. Mr. Entwistle took this as invitation and closed the distance gap between them with several long, precise strides, halting at a standstill beside his son. John had grown a few shades paler then before, taking back to the habit of hoping the floor might swallow him away.
"Well, good morning, Mr. Entwistle!" Dr. Walters responded with attempted politeness, extending his hand out. "We were just finishing up here with a few questions for Jo
Quads and Sods - Chapter TwoWhat a haven the playground can be when seen through the eyes of a child, and it was none more so with Keith Moon, fresh into his first day of third grade, dark brown eyes shining in excitement of his first eight year old recess, not a side-combed hair out of place with thick rimmed glasses framing his thin face, bridge held together by ratted, dirt crusted tape. He scanned the rather large area, fenced in fifty feet long and fifty feet wide: a box encasing no more than twenty kids at a time. To his left sat a rusted, barren swing set, the dry and cracked seats swinging ominously back and forth with no wind. Not a promising prospect of fun for the poor lad. Directly ahead of him stood a fifteen foot high slide, the metal scratched and glittering in the sunlight. It looked a bit more promising. But, it was to his right that caught his full attention; his childish heart swelled at the sight. Tall and strong, was chipped, blue painted monkey bars. Survey of the Galactic WestThe Western frontier of the United Federation of Planets, commonly known as the Borderlands have always been an object of fascination of spacefarers. Before the rise of the Cardassian threat, this region was dominated by three specias: the Kzinti, the Caitians and the Tzenkethi. The high number of habitable planets of the region (at least one in every three solar systems) has left many planetary scientists dumbfounded. This richness is unprecedented so far out from the Galactic Core, and is, thus, sometimes presented as being a product of an ancient, long-gone civilization's massive terraforming project.Survey of the Galactic West in Short Stories More Like This
The Borderlands were first charted by space telescopes orbiting Earth and Pluto, and later by automated probes in the late 21st century. The high number of M-class planets initiated the colony rush of the early 22nd century, with hundreds of Human starships leaving the Sol system to conquer the unknown frontiers. Little did they know of the dangers of the region.
