House of Secrets, Part 2The House of Secrets
Part 2. Xelloss's Perspective.
I have always known that Filia Ul Copt derives quixotic courage from my presence.
I have always known that we are mirrored. That outrage consumes her at seeing her inverse, her shade, her purple feral anti-reflection, in a perpetrator of historic genocide against her race. That her anger makes her feel, perversely, invincible.
I know that I am her secret weapon. It is a fact both comical and horrifying.
Allow me to reminisce, because that abandoned mansion was a perfect example. The recklessness that I inspire was the real reason why she "permitted" me to tag along with her that day, while she "exorcised" the building like a novice.
You see, I even know why silly Filly "felt" eyeballs in that bathroom mirror.
Because a physical, psychological, and spiritual space so long devoid of the struggles, affections, and clutter, that are standard to a mortal life, has a way of nibbling at the

I held it in but now it seems you've set it running free
Screaming in the dark, I howl when we're apart
I drag my teeth across your chest to taste your beating heart
You are the moon that breaks the night for which I have to

Until I wrap myself inside your arms I cannot rest

I hunt for you with bloodied feet across the hallow'd ground

There were no fields of morning glories in the Kataart Mountains.
No, on the contrary, there were only gourds.
A wart-covered, swollen, skinny, twisty, white-orange-and-green, undulating harvest of gourds. And around them, a swarm of draconic novices, male and female, of the golden, black, and water variety, in their humanoid forms, with their unremittingly curly silver-blue, straight blond, and wavy black hair,

The shrieking of mangled corpses falling to their deaths outside the temple where he faced off with her ancient and heartless Supreme Elder. Deaths at the hands of two tyrannical gods of another world. This provided him leverage. Time. An opening. She dropped her guard, turned her warm, pale head toward the howling distraction. He lunged.
He seized and twisted her arm. He marveled at how her flesh gave so softly under his steely fingers as he slid his staff, his weapon, across the expanse of her neck, pinning her against him.
"Make one move and you're dead, Filia." Spoken with the honest precision of one who had been what he was, and done a damned good job at it, for over a millennium.
She protested, the feisty maiden under siege, with a shrill demand of "Why, Xelloss?! What are you doing?" but the Wolf draped his wooden staff across Red Ridin

((Author's Note: Yet another Xelloss X Filia fanfiction at last! I apologize for the long hiatus and for my general hermit-like state in the Slayers community of late. My fandoms cycle pretty quickly, but I'll never get tired of this pairing. They're my OTP of all time, and Slayers is my all-time favorite animanga.
With much encouragement from Skiyomi/Llybian Minamino, Lilybotanica, and Ragnablast, and borrowing a prompt from Skiyomi due to her generosity, I'm going to tackle the very complex concept of Filia going BACK to the golden dragon temples, seeking haven there as a returned priestess. This is a real stretch of character so it'll be a fun challenge. Xelloss is not happy, and goes to many sources for some advice on what the hell happened. As a result, I'll get to cameo pretty much the entire Slayers main cast plus our darling stoic Milgazia, who is the only ryuuzoku aside Filia who is NOT a giant dickface a thoroughly unpleasant c

Her eyes are the same color of the grieving sky right now, but there are times when I catch them in a fugitive light that makes them a far brighter blue. I would give anything to catch such a light for good, to shove such a light in a jar and feed it to her like thick golden honey, so that it would shoot out the tips of her hair and her fingernails and toenails and especially her eyes that grieve with the sky right now.
"Gin." She turns those eyes of cool pewter on me, frowning. "Gin, I'm cold. I'm wet." Then she reconsiders standing to meet the rain head-on, and squats; her thighs, her milky calves, are beautiful. It wasn't even as though it was a particularly scary house. It was well, maybe a little imposing, but only in the way that really big houses always are. It didn't have any of the features that I'd have expected on a haunted houseno crushing façade, no prowling gargoyles on the roof, no windows that looked suspiciously like faces apparently Jacob Grogan, the head of the merchant empire family that had first commissioned the house, had decided that he didn't want his family living in a gothic cathedral, so the architects had opted for something a little less fashionable and a little more rustic. Unusual sights often go unappreciated simply because spectators don't understand what it is that they're seeing. It was in this way that a handful of buzzed pub patron's completely failed to appreciate the oddity of a monster and a dragon sitting at the bar and drinking together. All they saw through their booze-glazed haze was a young man and woman who looked as though they'd rather be anywhere else and in any other company.
And it was true that neither Xellos nor Filia would've put themselves in this situation of their own volition. But earlier that day as they were walking through town they'd been having a let's call it a discussion a debate a comparative exercise to demonstrate which of their races was best. The word 'jerkface' had been thrown around, yes, but there's no reason for that to take anything away from the solemnity of the proceedings.

Ugh predictably enough it's been an absolute trial to get provisions. There weren't any stores intact left around the port and since I wouldn't dream of doing something as disgraceful as looting (sadly the same cannot be said for the residents of the town), I had to travel a bit down the coast to the next town over to purchase supplies. A lot of other people had the same idea, so it's pretty crowded.
And now I suppose I have no excuse not to start my ocean journey after Miss Lina and her friends.
It's just it's a long trip to fly! Flying is faster than walking, but it's absolutely exhausting and it's going to be even more difficult over the sea. If I was flying on land then I could just touch down and take a break whenever I needed one, but on the ocean? There's no guarantee that there's going to be anywhere for me to stop.

Well, I guess that's not really true. I've probably started a diary at least half a dozen times. It just always seemed like such a good idea to me ever since I'd read the suggestion in a conduct novel growing up. I mean, it would be nice to be able to go over the events of my day to be able to better puzzle over themand of course to look back on and remember years down the line. And diary-keeping is supposed to be excellent for guiding the spiritual journeys of young ladies and keep them accountable for their behavior. But I don't think I've ever stuck with one journal for more than a week. I always meant to keep it up but it's so much harder to do than it sounds. I was told before I left the temple that the outside world was full of temptations that could pull even the most virtuous dragon from the path of right, but I suppose I never paid too much attention I just thought how bad could it really be?
It turns out quite bad.
I guess that makes it sound worse than it actually is. The outside world isn't really tempting in a blatantly sinful, debaucheries on every corner kind of way. That would have been easy to resist. It's tempting in a more down to earth, subtle, paradoxically harder to resist kind of way.
Human culture is just so full of distractions!

Filia opened the door to the kiln and took a deep breath. It was cool now, but she could still smell the smoky mixture of earth and flame. She reached in and felt the ceramic surface of the piece within. She looked it over careful, spinning it gently. So often a promising vase could be ruined in its trial by fire. Here, though, all seemed to be well. There was certainly no warping, and she breathed a sigh of relief when she had confirmed that the new paint she'd bought had held up under the heat. She smiled. All that was left was to put this on the shelf, where it would surely find a home when her shop doors opened the next morning.
She lifted the vase from its warm and cozy mortar womb, hugged it to her chest, and carefully shut the oven door. She turned around and walked two stepsmaybe three.

It all started because Xellos needed a place to keep his books. He didn't exactly subscribe to the notion that knowledge was power, but knew all too well that knowledge was the best way to leverage power. Not only that, but he also knew the location of every five-star ice cream parlor in the entire world. That was something worth bragging about.
He supposed that he could've kept them on the astral side but well books seem to sort of belong on shelves. And he didn't like reading on the astral side anyway. The constantly shifting light sources made the prospect rather annoying.
And what is a house but a place to store shelves?
So he'd gotten a space of his ownnot to live in, but to keep things in. It worked out well not only for books but for any items that he had to eh 'confiscate' because they were too dangerous for human hands, but were not to be destroyed. Plus he could read mid-air without arousing any

Sometimes it’s just not prudent to ask too many questions. After the previous day’s very draining and costly battle against a pair of monsters with an axe to grind against them, most of Lina Inverse’s crew wasn’t inclined to start making a fuss about minor social inconsistencies amongst the group. After all, they were so tapped out of magical power after the fight, that they’d spent all the energy they had left on healing the most major of their wounds. With fresh cuts and bruises still uncured and lacking defenses if they got ambushed again, it was much more important that they keep a careful eye on things as they traveled along the road than it was to examine why things were just ever so slightly “weird” between two of their traveling companions.
It wasn’t as though the behavior was completely unexplainable, anyway. They’d all have been toast if Xellos hadn’t shown up when he did with his veiled threats about

Xellos had been trying unsuccessfully for the last several hours to get Filia to look at him.
Ah, but putting it that way made it sound rather unfairly pathetic. The current state of affairs, with his outwardly nonchalant efforts to turn her gaze his way being thwarted by her insistence on looking at such things as tree bark, dirt, and animal dung (elements that she would most likely insist were much more worthy of her attention than he was), was not the way this whole thing had started. No this campaign had begun not with failure, but with unexpected success.
That morning had run much like any other morningwith a lengthy breakfast served at the inn they'd stayed at. Lina had been complaining about her latest efforts to destroy her sleep cycle by staying up all night looking through as much Outer World literature as she could find concerning magical items, Zelgadis, who had been doing just as much research, complained about how much Lina was comp

//Shut up, I'm thinking.\\ Shiro shot back.
Ichigo shrank back mentally. //Sorry,\\ he thought, slightly hurt.
Shiro huffed and didn't respond, contemplating silently for several seconds. Ichigo could literally feel him thinking. After a few minutes, he looked up at Urahara and Ichigo began to feel a great deal of realization and anger from his other half. "It doesn't matter," he growled aloud.

Ichigo scowled in frustration. If he concentrated, he could perform a sonido just fine, and flash steps came pretty naturally to him, but he couldn't seem to combine the two for the life of him. He'd managed to get a few good combinations in, but those tended to come randomly as the result of pure, dumb luck.
Hirako had insisted that it had to do with his lack of control over his immense innate power and had even suggested starting to teach him kido just so that he could learn that control. He and Rukia-taichou had argued for almost an hour over that one. The captain insisted that Ichigo was too young while Hirako accused her of coddling him. He'd argued that Ichigo had gone through personalized lessons

"Wait," Rukia-taichou spoke up, and glaring warily over at Akio, "If you're from the future, why can't you remember anything?"

Roxas carefully touched the zipper of his coat as he walked away from the vacant room, running his gloved fingers over the rough teeth before sliding his hand down to his pocket. He patted the small lump formed by the elixir beneath the leather of his coat for what he thought was the fourth, no, maybe fifth time since he had picked it up. That icy grip of dread he felt while walking with Demyx and Larxene was still haunting him, but now it seemed to be growing steadily worse.

Axel stared at the doorway; or rather it seemed he was staring right through the door. His emerald eyes seemed clouded, hazy as though he were lost in thought. His hand rested on the massive entry, yet he didnt put any more force behind it to open it further than just that tiny crack. He simply stood in silence as though someone had cast stop on him.
Somethings bothering you...
Axel flinched. His fingers flexing on the door for a moment before resting his palm flat on the pristine white surface once again.
...But why would you come here?
There was a moment of silence that was only broken by the faint sound of his breathing resuming. He leaned closer to the door until his forehead connected with the cool surface. I dont know... he finally whispered in an awkward and unsure tone.

He must have gotten a heavy dose, a very heavy dose considering the fact that only a small coating on a tube of lipstick took down two Nobodies, and simply a few drops were used in each of four drinks.
Ah yes, four drinks. Axel expected one of them to change drinks with him just to make sure he hadn't done anything to it. However, they hadn't even qu

“Xelloss… Come forth now.”
She called for me as she always did, a booming voice in my head buzzed and immediately I traveled the Astral Plane to her side. I appeared before her, she was in her human form sitting upon her throne. I bowed as I stood on one knee as I usually did. “Lord Beast Master, you summoned me?”
“Xelloss, I want you to find Lina Inverse for me.” My Lord Zelas commanded. “There is something I need to know.”
Lina Inverse? The human that destroyed Hell Master Phibrizzo, a piece of Lord Ruby Eye along with his ghost, aided in the destruction of Dark Star and many more? What could she want with her? … Could it be the final confrontation I’ve longed warned Miss Lina about? For some reason the thought of that human lifeless in my arms didn’t appeal to me like it should… In fact I frowned at the thought of never feeling her anger or rage again… Or another headlock.

“Well Joe tried flirting with her every now and again and that just manages to piss her off.” Sherra rolled her eyes. “If she does speak she does nothing but growl, she’s good for a meal but damn I’ve never seen a human so negative ever.”
“That’s probably what made Zelas inquire about her.” Dynast chuckled. “I still wonder why she was so curious as to if we were going to keep her alive and that if we were going to dispose of her she asked to take her?”
“Rumor has it she’s Xelloss’s favorite human, my lord.” Sherra replied.

With an amused expression, Haku walked over to the couch and sat down. He crossed his arms and smiled at Chihiro. "So, what will we be watching tonight?" he inquired, tilting his head slightly.
Chihiro froze. She had no idea. "Umm... I'm going to surprise you."
"I've kind of been the Spirit World my whole life, Chihiro. I don't think I've ever seen a movie."
Chihiro frowned. "Then how do you even know what a movie IS?"
"I overheard a few things when I was still a river."
Chihiro sighed and rolled her eyes. "I'm surprising you anyway. Just give me a minute to find it." She quickly scanned the shelf full of DVDs, not seeing a movie that appealed to her. She decided to just randomly pick one. It wasn't like she would be paying attention, anyway.

Chihiro couldn't decide. She didn't want to leave her world, but she didn't want Haku to have to adjust. Or she could just let him go. As soon as she thought of that, she was horrified at the thought of Haku leaving, never to return. But Chihiro soon realized that that might be the easiest option. Nothing would have to be sacrificed, except for seeing Haku. But there are other fish in the sea, Chihiro thought reluctantly. She looked up at Haku; he was looking back. Could he tell what she was thinking?
"Well?" Haku asked.
"I think," Chihiro had to pause before she could say it out loud. "I think that you should... you should go back to the spirit world. And I'll stay here."

Chihiro looked away from Haku's brilliant green eyes. She didn't know if she wanted to go or not. Be with Haku forever and never come back to her world, or stay where things were familiar and never see him again. "How long can you stay here?" Chihiro asked quietly, looking back up.
"A long as you want me to."
"Even when my parents come back?"

Chihiro turned around and saw her favorite green eyes. "Haku," she whispered. "You came back...again." She rested her hands on his shoulders and nuzzled his neck.
He smiled. "I asked you a question," he said playfully. "What do you need?"
Chihiro hesitated. Did he mean what she thought he meant? She was very tempted to say "You," knowing he would probably, well.... But she decided against it. For now. "Um, some water would be nice," she choked out. It was really an excuse for time to think.
Haku let her go. "Just water?" he asked, still looking deep into Chihiro's eyes.

As she walked to school, alone as usual, since she hadn't made many friends in this town, she wished there was someone she could tell about the spirit world that wouldn't think she was insane. After returning home from school, Tohru paused outside Shigure's study, announcing that she and Kyo were back for the evening. He looked up from his book, and peered over his glasses, and greeted her warmly. She took a brief moment to set down her bag just outside the door and entered the room. Shigure welcomed her in, taking off his glasses, folding them neatly, and placing them on top of his book, as she knelt down beside him.
"How was school today, Tohru?"
"It was a good day, thank you," she replied before continuing, "Though I can imagine that it was a long day for Yuki."
"Oh? Why's that?" Shigure asked, tilting his head and rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
"Everyone at school noticed his black eye and he was the center of attention all day. A few asked what happened to Kyo's nose, but most of the attention was guided toward Yuki, which I think upset Kyo a great deal

Clouds scudded across the night sky, covering the half moon as they passed. Somewhere, a clock struck the hour, three loud gongs that reverberated through the chill autumn air. Jiro Mochizuki stared out the window from the second story of the warehouse turned apartment that he shared with Mimiko Katsuragi and his little brother, Kotaro. He held his long, silver katana to one side, the blade about an inch out of its sheath.
He could hear Kotaro's soft snoring coming from the next room, something he was very glad for. And if he let his senses roam a little further, he coul

Chapter One: The Arrival.
Mimiko Katsuragi stretched, her arms reaching towards the sky, both whole and strong again, mostly. Her right arm was still a little shaky after having been in a cast for weeks on end, but only when she tried to lift anything weight more than ten pounds. And her right leg was also a little unsteady, but she felt more like herself than she had in quite some time. The bruises and scrapes from her encounter with the vampire, Kanaye Raidon, were all healed and only the memories really remained.
"I can't believe we're really here," she practically squealed as she looked out the door of the small airplane. After having switched from a transatlantic flight in California to a smaller plane, it was good to be on land, even though t

Lucienne rolled over to find her watch. She squinted at the numbers. "Eight." She put the watch down and rolled back over. "Way too early to be up."
Suddenly, clanging sounds came from outside.
"Rise and shine! Time to be up! Breakfast's cooking! Or should I say lunch?"
The whole tent full of girls groaned and pillows were thrown, even though they didn't make it past the zipped up door. "It's too early!"
The clanging got closer as one of the boys banged a skillet with a wooden spoon. "Up and at em or we'll eat all the eggs and you won't get any!"
Karri groaned. "We're coming. We're coming.&

The guys pulled up next to her in their car. Loud talking could be heard coming from their car, making Jiro glad he'd decided to stay with Mimiko, though Kotaro had wanted to join the four guys on the way over. He'd felt very grateful that they'd parked in a shaded area the night before and he hadn't yet needed to make use of his umbrella that he had by his side.
Mimiko was out of the car before he was. It took him a moment longer as he pushed the umbrella out ahead of him, opening it before he stepped out into the sun. His long red coat and hat were catching some rather odd glances from other shoppers entering or exiting their cars, but he paid them no mind. The afternoon air was hot and dry, the sun shining mercilessly from above.
Once everyone was out of t

Since he'd landed in America, he'd done some scouting to find out just where the Compromiser and the Silver Blade had gone. It hadn't been too difficult. These Americans were fairly open, after all, unless many Japanese he knew. And after learning that they'd headed out to the desert, it didn't take long to find their tracks and follow them, once he knew what to look for.
And although he knew the general area of where they were going, he still hadn't come across their little camp. But he had come across a canyon, which definitely intrigued him. Besides, he didn't need to be in a hurry. The sun was still up and he knew Jiro wouldn't be doing much until the sun had gone down. That's when the rea

He sipped his drink from its clear glass. Being a VIP definitely had its perks, he decided. Perhaps he'd travel more often, not that everyone else back at the Special Zone would like that, but then he had persuaded Sei that he wasn't going to do anything Jiro wouldn't do, which was likely. After all, he had to protect his own interests as well, though the Dragon King had given him a strict warning that if he did anything to reveal their true nature, he'd definitely be punished for it.
Zelman laughed. A little boy was giving him a lecture. Granted, Sei was, technically, older than him, even if he was in the form of a chil

Mimiko stared. She suddenly felt very unsteady on her feet. "What . the ?" She stumbled a few steps back, knocking into Kotaro. They both went down, her crutch crashing to the ground beside them with a bang. They sat there for a moment or two.
"Mimiko! Mimiko!" Her fellow compromisers were suddenly swarming all over the place. "Are you okay? What's going on? What happened?"
"Speak to me, Mimiko," Hibari was practically crying as she knelt in front of the stunned girl.
"What about the kid," another coworker asked. "You okay?"
Kotaro hitched up onto his feet, brushing off the woman who was trying to help him without answering her. He was strong, after all. He went immediately to Mimiko's side. "Hey, Mimi! Mimi!" He tugged at her sleeve. "Mimi, can you hear me

Rinsuke smoothed back his purple hair as he walked down the street. The rain from the night before had definitely washed out a lot of things. Buildings looked cleaner on the outside, but the gutters were filled with trash. He found he was very glad that clearing the gutters didn't fall under his job description.
But it was a lovely day, the sun out and the sky a bright blue once more. His investigations were going fairly well, all things considered, though he was at a bit of a loss on finding out who the vampire after Mimiko was. The Coven boys hadn't helped, destroying the Black Blood before the Company had gotten to him. He was probably just an underling though. Something would turn up. It usually did.
His phone rang and he reached for his pocket, pulling the device out. Looking at the number, he sighed. He waited another ring before answerin

A quick knock sounded at the doorway and Jiro went to answer. He took a quick step back when he saw who was behind the metal barrier.
"Well, Silver Blade," Zelman grinned through the open doorway, "Aren't you going to invite me in?"
Hibari bent to retrieve her drink from the vending machine. Compared to the day before, today was turning out to be completely boring. Mimiko wasn't there to tease about Jiro Mochizuki. The usual crew was all out on assignments, and there was no real juicy gossip to spread or anyone to really spread it to, which was absolutely annoying and unacceptable in her book.
Chihuru, one of her fellow compromisers, tottered past, her face all nervous. She was acting very flustered, more so than usual. And this girl was easily flustered.
Sensing a bit of fun, Hibari went in for the kill. "Hey, Chihuru," she called.

The clock read exactly eleven as Mimiko booted up her computer. For once, she was on time. Her fingers skimmed across the keyboard as she typed in her password, then waited for the machine to log her into the system. Last night had been rather uneventful, once everything had settled down. She didn't remember dreaming. But at least she'd had breakfast, even if it was only a little granola. Jiro hadn't been awake to protest.
The voices of her fellow compromisers fell all around her as they came and left the office for their various assignments. She was diligently typing in a report when Hibari suddenly put her hands over her fellow compromiser's eyes. "Guess who!"
Mimiko tried to pry the hands from her face. "Hibari! Stop it," she complained.
Her junior finally let go, sticking out her tongue. "You're such a

Does love rise from words you say or does it start from the thoughts you think?
Or does love really come from the heart?
Where in the heart is it hiding?
Could it be the thought that gives impulses to the brain, which then sends it to your heart?

Jag har förlorat orden!
Som om de hade sjunkit ner i en djup avgrund.
Går det att fiska upp dem?
Eller ska jag locka på dem med älvors sång?
Hissa upp dem med en magisk formel?
jag går ner på knä och ber.
I have lost words!
As if they had fallen into a deep abyss.
Is it possible to fish them back?
Or should I entice them with fairies singing?
Raise them with a magic formula?
I kneel down and pray.
