Final Dreams of a Filly Ch. 4The world felt like it had exploded around her. Suddenly, needles of ice punctured her lungs. The metallic taste of blood tinged her lips and for some reason she was burning alive. In the distance she could hear sirens wailing and terse, anxious voices barking out orders and choppy directions. None of them made any sense and she was being eaten from the inside out with fear. Scootaloo struggled to even remember what had happened that had led to this, but her thoughts were sluggish and she couldn't seem to collect them.
Only once the world came to a shuddering halt did she realize that she was in an ambulance. Before she could invest in the thought, she felt herself slip from consciousness and she was plunged into complete darkness. It didn't last long - or it didn't seem to. What felt like seconds later she opened her eyes and tried to sit up with a start. Her entire body was convulsing and trembling, but she could feel her heartbeat raging away within her frail chest.

Final Dreams of a Filly Ch. 2Scootaloo stared down at herself silently. Regret flooded her as thoroughly as the tears that slid down her face. "There was so much I was gonna do I never found my special talent in life and earned my cutie mark I never thought it would end like this. Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, and I were all going to do it together. This is a nightmare " The thought quieted her. This was a nightmare and that was all that it could be. It had been countless centuries of the same question. The mare closed her eyes and thought for a moment, wondering how she still never quite had a good answer. After a moment her eyes opened and extended one of her wings as if to beckon the filly near. "I wish I had a better answer, but this isn't a nightmare, Scootaloo. Final Dream of a Filly Ch. 3The funeral was a modest affair. The town gathered up a collection and the mortician was even kind enough to donate a simple black coffin for the sake of holding her. It almost didn't seem real as Scootaloo stared down into the open casket and examined the tiny bundle within. They had done a good job, she admitted. She still only looked asleep, a small smile permanently hovering on her face from her final dream. Scootaloo turned away and cast her gaze to the sky, a sigh causing her to shudder. The weather team hadn't been able to clear the skies. Why, she didn't know, but the day was somber in its muted gray sky that occasionally rumbled with the softest rumbles of thunder.Final Dream of a Filly Ch. 3 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
"It's time, Scootaloo we should take our places." It was the mare who spoke, beckoning the filly away from the casket to stand beside it instead. Final Dreams of a Filly Ch. 1The moon was chillingly beautiful. The young filly watched it silently; a rare moment of reverence for her normally exuberant personality. A chill ran through her tiny frame and she pulled the thin material closer around her fledgling wings, trying to trap her frail body heat beneath the scarlet cape and emblem. A smile pulled at the corner of her mouth as her lavender eyes caught sight of the insignia. The symbol glittered in the moonlight, tendrils of frost having begun to collect on the surface of the cape. Winter was coming - and soon.Final Dreams of a Filly Ch. 1 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Her eyes fell away from the frost as she dismissed it. So what if it was cold? The filly nestled closer betwixt the wooden beams of her residence and closed her eyes tight in defiance. There was no time to worry about that now. Now it was time to sleep. Every filly knew the moon meant that, and even she didn't have the energy to fight its silent nocturne. "Goodnight, mom. Goodnight, dad. I love you " she called out softly. The answer was the sam
Southern Comfort Ch. 2Lightning danced across the darkened sky and bathed the room in a stark white pallor. The flash faded into darkness before a gentle glow dissolved the shadows and materialized in the doorway. Applejack lowered herself to her haunches, and she breathed soft sigh of contentment. Though she would never openly admit it, the momentary respite from the bitter cold of the outdoors felt wonderful. Frost clung to her slack mane and her forelegs ached from the muddied slurry of the fields. The storm had begun. They were ready and waiting for it. In the urgency of their preparations, she had not noticed her younger sister's absence. However, as the weather turned for the worse, she had found herself needing more and more to know that the little filly was safe.

Southern Comfort Chapter 1A cold chill ran down the old mare's spine. A soft trace of thunder rumbled within dark, heavy clouds that loomed high over the expansive apple orchard. The air itself seemed to anticipate the oncoming storm and crackled though her fur with rampant anxiousness. That didn't faze her though. Very few things fazed one of her age, and Granny Smith only surveyed the storm as if it were an old adversary. This hadn't been the first storm her brittle bones had weathered, and it certainly wouldn't be the last. Thunder pealed over the darkening sky and silenced even the proud nightingale that had tucked itself away from the bitter winds of winter.Southern Comfort Chapter 1 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
The old mare had also hidden herself away, at least for now. Applejack and Big Macintosh had already begun preparing for the worst the weather could throw at them. They had no need for brittle limbs that had long since worn out their use in the fields. Granny Smith sighed softly, the exhalation causing her chest to rattle. She couldn't help but wonder
Legend of the LightsIt had been the longest night anypony could remember. The warm glow of Luna's moon had dimmed to a chilling whisper of its former comfort and now bathed the world in a stark, ethereal light. Mares held their foals close as stallions braced themselves for the end of what they all knew to be a terrible battle. No matter the cost, the balance of the world hung taut on the threads of fate, and even if by force rather than a mercy, Celestia had set forth to lower the pallid sphere. For a few moments after her departure, it seemed like all the world held its breath. Then, a delicate cascade of light crested the horizon and dawn broke over a newly forged empire. The goddess of the moon had fallen, beloved and feared by her subjects, to make way for the sun. Things would never quite be the same, not for a thousand years.Legend of the Lights in Drama More Like This
But sit for a spell and let me tell you of a story that happened not long after the terrible conflict. A simple tale of a colt's love that spanned a thousand years of light.

"Hey, Rainbow Dash!"
Dash heard a recognizable voice call out to her. She was in the middle of napping on a cloud after a hard day's work. Blinking her eyes, she tossed off the last moments of her relaxed break. She stood on the cloud, stretching her back and wings with a loud yawn. Finally, she moved to the edge of the cloud, looking down to see Scootaloo standing below, waiting in anticipation.
"Hey, Scoot," Rainbow Dash said, her voice still sounding tired from her rest. "What's up?"
Scootaloo eagerly bounced from the ground. "School's out! I came as fast as I could, since I didn't want to keep you waiting!" The orange pegasus filly sounded extremely excited. She was smiling ear to ear, flapping her small wings a bit as she hopped in place.
Rainbow Dash then remembered how she promised to give the filly a few lessons in flying today. "All right," the older pegasus replied. Though a little irritated that she was disturbed during her nap, she had made a promise, and was always loyal t
The Warmth Under Your Wings, part 1The first thought that popped into Scootaloo's head before she opened her eyes was that the hay somehow felt different than usual. It felt so comfortable and warm, yet light as air and slightly wet like morning dew. She began poking the fluffy material a few times before she finally opened her eyes and took a good look at this strange bed surface. Surprised at first, she did not see hay, but a pretty white cloud. A smile formed on her face when she finally remembered just what was going on, and as she took a good look around the spacious room of white, the pleasant reality came to her like merry thoughts on a Hearth's Warming Eve's morning. The Greatest Performance pt. 1The sun was setting over Ponyville, painting the few clouds left in the orange sky a beautiful pink as it hid itself behind the hills on the horizon. The bright sunlight slipped in between the tree branches and found its way into Trixie's eyes, forcing her to find shade under her hat as she walked along the woodland path. A long yawn escaped her mouth and caused her eyes to become watery. Finally done with a long and exhausting day, her mind was filled with nothing but the thought of her daily drink at "The Hanging Horseshoe".The Greatest Performance pt. 1 in Romance More Like This
She did not originally intend to stay in Ponyville, especially not since her boast was busted during the Ursa Minor incident. She had little choice however, seeing as her camper had been smashed to bits and pieces under the celestial teddy's humongous paw. Since then, she had been making a living by performing magic tricks at children's birthday parties and occasionally for the elderly in the town's nursing home. Although she used to love the attention her tricks
The Warmth Under Your Wings, Part 3The space of the waiting room felt like it had closed around Rainbow Dash and Dr. heartfeld, leaving them in a vacuum where they were able to comprehend only each other's presence and the things they said. Rainbow Dash was completely still on the outside, but the inside of her head kept telling her different ways to properly react to the things the old, faded tan stallion had just told her. Though she had an idea what had happened in Scootaloo's past, she was still somewhat unprepared for hearing the truth. The Warmth Under Your Wings, Part 3 in Drama More Like This
Dr. Heartfeld was a patient pony. While Rainbow was picking up the pieces of information one by one, he sat still and watched her with a pair of curious, yet calm eyes, eager to hear her response while still giving her the required time to absorb what he had said. With a straight back and a dignified expression, he sat ready for Rainbow's judgment, whatever it would be. This was, after all, the reason she had asked him to tell her the story of the unfortunate orange filly in the fir
The Warmth Under Your Wings, part 2"So where are we going, Dash?" Scootaloo asked, jumping happily in circles around the cyan pegasus as they walked the road to Ponyville. Rainbow Dash shot the filly a heartwarming smile. The happiness Scootaloo had been beaming with all day was something genuine, something she had never thought she would see in the orange pegasus. Before today, every smile Scootaloo made seemed to have required a command from her. Like she had been unable to laugh out of reflex like most ponies would when they are happy. That this smile and excitement on the skipping filly's face seemed to be happening without her realizing it, made Rainbow feel both glad and proud. She was the one who made Scootaloo laugh.
"You'll see when we get there, Squirt," Rainbow Dash said with a teasing tone. "But really, it's not that exciting. It's jus
The Tale of a Cutie Mark, part 1Canterlot Library is widely regarded as the greatest source of knowledge in Equestria. The main hall alone is an endless maze of more than a thousand shelves, each about four stories tall and so long that one would have to walk for at least five minutes before reaching one end from the other. Yet even with shelves this huge, one shelf is rarely enough to contain even a single category of literature. There are simply too many books. A thousand lifetimes would not be enough to read even half of them. And that is only a part of the library. The Tale of a Cutie Mark, part 1 in Romance More Like This
For this reason, Twilight always found herself to be as excited as a schoolfilly whenever she trotted along the crevasses of the shelves in the main hall. Single Wing - part 1The early morning light was as sharp as always, passing the borders of the open kitchen window where a light breeze gently shook the drapes from side to side, letting in short glimpses of the sun's blinding rays. Scootaloo quickly found herself blinded, just as she was carrying one of her mother's finest plates to the kitchen table. A bumpy corner of the rug swept the temporarily blinded filly off her feet, making her accidentally lose her grip on the pretty piece of porcelain and send it flying through the air. With a bit of reflexes, luck and agility though, the orange filly managed to leap forward and caught the plate midair before it would break into an impossible puzzle. She let out a sigh of relief, wondering just how disappointed her mother would be if she had broken this heirloom of hers from her own parents. Luckily, it only took a few seconds for Cherilee to let her breath out and point her hoof to the only empty seat in the classroom. Scootaloo gave her a few hasty nods before she zigzagged between the tables and positioned herself as neatly as possible in the seat, trying her best to create the image of a perfect little school-filly.Single Wing - part 2 in Drama More Like This

Canterlot had not fallen asleep yet; carts traveled to their final destinations of the day, couples went about for dinner, shopkeeps began to close up for home. Twilight bowed her head in greetings as she stepped out.
"Celly dotes on me so, it's a little embarrassing." Luna looked past Twilight to the two guards nearby. Twilight gave a nervous smile. She wondered - was this Celestia trying to protect her younger sister, or protect others from her little sister?
"How are you feeling?" she asked to shift the conversation. So far, Luna, while soft-spoken, didn't seem so poorly. Her opinion shifted slightly when Luna hung her head and let out a long sigh.

"Wha- Oh, Spike!" Twilight was surprised to find her assistant crossly tapping his foot outside the door. He came in without her invitation.
"Where were you, Twi?" he asked, clearly indignant. "You were gone for hours! Do you know how hard it is to keep a straight face when you're lying to the Princess of Equestria?"
"One of." Twilight corrected. "And sadly, yes. I'm sorry Spike." gears turned in her head. She couldn't have spent more than an hour and a half searching for books, probably less. Yet Spike was right - it was already well into the afternoon, several hours having passed from when she began her venture. Twilight wondered just what
To Be An AlicornSweet Apple Acres was a busy place in the spring. Two young stallions walked the fields with plows in tow, while a mailpony dragged in shipments of seeds and tools, and a couple more ponies were visible amonst the apple trees. Adding to the general bustle was a visitor to the farm who gingerly stepped out of the sky, looked around, and opened the gate into the main homestead area. One very illuminating lesson on abacus use and maintenance and several hours of peaceful study later, Twilight and Luna left the library. Twilight could still hardly believe it as Luna had challenged to beat her with a calculator - and then won hoofs down. All with the help of beads and her own mental faculties she had computed things Twilight had wanted to write down before even getting to the calculator. For the first time in a very, very long time Twilight felt, well, stupid. She often felt foalish, out of place or embarrassed. She had never been made to feel stupid.
Luna had meant only to show off a little though, and Twilight held nothing against her. The younger princess had little enough to be proud of as it was. Should she treat Luna like a fillyfriend? That didn't even answer any questions, given that Twilight had the dating experience of a particularly socially inept rock.
"Twilight? What's going through your mind?" Luna asked. Twilight realized she had been staring.
"Ah, uh...I'm sorry. I'm just nervous. I don't know what to do, I mean, about...us?" the term seemed so foreign, so odd to apply. Luna both blushed and smiled, equal parts embarrassed and elated. At least Twilight knew she wasn't alone.

The old pegasus glared down into the filly's wide magenta eyes and growled, "I would thank you not to fall asleep in my class, Ms. Dash." He turned on his hindhoof and walked slowly back to the front of the class, his icy stare silencing the titters of his students.
As he started to speak again, she rubbed furiously at her eyes. Ugh It's not my fault I'm sleeping in class. If I wasn't up all night studying everything else, then I wouldn't have to catch up in this boring class. She looked up at the blackboard with a w

Her eyes followed her for a moment, a satisfied smile of her own on her lips. It was just a simple pullover sundress; a light and breezy little thing for a young filly's first school dance. But oh, it was such a joy to make for her! She'd wanted something to catch the eye of that little would-be Casanova who'd been trying to make the rounds of the schoolyard and breaking hearts with his handsome smile and charming laugh. The poor dear was so smitten that she nearly chewed her ear off with syrupy-sweet descriptions of his mane. Big Mac's Big PromiseBig Mac ground his hooves into the nightstand at the end of his bed. There was no way he could go through with it, not for anypony and not for any amount of money in the world. Just looking at the hideous clothes draped across the foot of his bed made his knees weak and his guts turn to water. He swallowed hard and shut his eyes, then leaned back against his bed and tried to think about the little filly he'd promised to do this for. That's right, this was gonna be Applebloom's birthday present. He could for her, maybe. He had promised, and an Apple always kept their promises. My biceps followed; flexing, relaxing, and then flexing again as my arms swung back and forth. I let out a soft noise, halfway between a groan and a growl, as bones creaked under the strain of muscle pulling against them, eager for the fight. As you may have already known, my time is soon to come. I wish I could say that I'm not frightened of death, as I could have said when I was once a young mare, but that has changed much over the decades. I have learned of how true friendship is a force that cannot be stopped over the powers of time, death, and solitude, but as long as you have your friends by your side there is nothing to keep you from where you wish to be. I hope that I will be able to see them again, and I wish to be able to tell them how much I appreciate what they have done for me through the years as my best of friends. I have a feeling that they know this though, and they watch me from wherever they are now telling me to live out what I can.
When you sent me to Ponyville to make new friends, I was hesitant. I just wanted to finish with what needed to be done and then return to my studies. But you seemed to know what I needed, not only what Equestria needed that day. You knew I needed fr

She walked among the field of animals, wishing that she could have this back at home where everything was real. She knew that this was all a dream. It was early in the morning, early enough to where the sun had not yet risen over the horizon. If anything, she was supposed to still be asleep until it was at least noon. Her thoughts weighed heavy on her mind, and she just had to tell somepony about what she was feeling. Rainbow Dash wasn't even sure of what she felt. Love? Or was it just liking a mare?

Twilight Sparkle cracked open her eyes to the loving and caring gaze of a mentor who had seen everything that there was to be seen. The corners of her mouth moved up slightly, her old and wrinkled face scrunching up as she used what energy she had to give a smile. Princess Celestia sat next to her, a weak smile upon her lips. Twilight lay in the bed she had since her first arrival in Ponyville, the springs still holding strong and keeping her comfortable during her last moments in reality. She just lie there most of the days, so weak that she couldn't even lift a book to her eyes to read the philosophy that it may offer her fading mind. Rarity watched, shocked, as Applebloom and Sweetie Belle walked away, their forms receding from the campfire and fading into the darkness of the woods. Luna's Best Night EverIt was the night of the Grand Galloping Gala and Princess Luna was thoroughly flustered. She stood in front of her mirror, pouting at her own reflection. Celestia had gone to great lengths to set the evening up for her, lowering the sun early and helping her to raise the moon and coerce the stars out of hiding so she would have time to prepare herself. When Celestia had told her no bit had been spared to prepare for the gala Luna had been shocked, even appalled by the flagrant misuse of the treasury to fund an event
Luna's Best Night Ever 9Sleep always felt strange to Luna. It was like willingly entering a void, shutting out the world and entering a place where only she existed. Her eyes widened at the realization that hours, not just one or two, had passed since she had begun her nap. She hopped off of the couch and ran to the window. The cold light of morning was already beginning to tinge the horizon
Luna's Best Night Ever: 2The hallways were always empty right after the sunrise, with ponies scurrying about in their rooms preparing for the day ahead or climbing into their beds after a long shift attending to the princess of the night. Ya know it's nice to know some ponies actually think about me. We may not look it, but my family's got a long and proud history behind it! I know my family doesn't have lots and lots of bits to our names, and we don't have any sport stars (that's gonna change with me, believe it!), but we've got plenty of interesting stories to tell!
We've got stories that go all the way back before the time of chaos, before the time of the three tribes, back when there were five. Yeah yeah look at me weird, I swear its true! Great-granny said her great-granny told her how there were a lot of other sapenant, shapepent, sharpient, er, creatures who could think and speak than just the ones today. And humans, -humans- visited from the other side of the rainbow!
My name? Oh I know a lot say it's puny or weird but I don't mind it. It's actually a family name. It

The fillies and colts gathered around Apple Pie, cheering for their sister (or cousin, or friend) after we explained to Apple Pie everything we knew about the Elements, including showing off what powers we could. I also had to explain that the Elements of Chaos were NOT inherently evil. We had simply held their corrupt forms while we, ourselves, were corrupted. Now, of course, we embodied their purified ones. Then she asked about superpowers! And I was stuck admitting I thought the Harmony Elements were just pretty looking without all six until a couple days ago.
"Do ya get a cool costume?" "Do you think yah'll get yer own comic?" "Give'em Tattarus!"
Unanimous support for Apple Pie. Not an envious eye in the herd. They were descendants of the Apple clan, after all, being jealous of your own family simply didn't enter the equation. Apple Computer and Rocky Senior from hugging their daughter/granddaughter and telling her to be careful. A

Chapter 1 - Entrada
The voice carried authority. It was the voice of a pony who had the situation under control, who knew what she was doing at all times, almost laughter in the face of peril. But it was also an honest voice, one of compassion and loyalty, one whose softness came not from weakness, but from kindness. It was a magical voice. Most of all, it was a voice of royalty, and it spoke again.
"Twilight Sparkle," said Princess Celestia. "Pray tell, what do you think you are doing?"
In the middle of the large chamber, the unicorn pony Twilight Sparkle searched desperately for an exit, but the royal guards had already blocked them all. The question gave her reason to pause, and she wondered what she was doing. She didn't remember how she had gotten here, only that she needed to escape.

Chapter 2 - Discord
Twilight was wandering through the Swayback Mountains. Somewhere, some part of her knew that this was wrong, that it didn't make sense for her to be here. She knew she was still lost in the Everfree Forest. But these thoughts, if they were real, had no effect on her actions, as she continued her trot toward a stone building set within the mountains themselves.
Once inside, the path slanted downward, into the heart of the mountain, and soon it became too dark to see. At this, Twilight stamped her hooves on the ground in rhythm. Two clops, a pause, and then three clops.
The lights went on in Twilight Sparkle's laboratory. Machines were set against the wall, lights glowing and gears grinding as they worked. At the moment they were connected to an elliptical dish, processing data gathered from the stars. A large circle was etched on the floor with chalk inside

Chapter 4 - The Hermit
The small equestrian figure moved through the growth of the Everfree Forest, her bright blue eyes rising and falling in the darkness with each step she took. Her skin clung close to her ribs; while she was not dangerously malnourished, she had less meat on her body than anypony would want. She carried in her mouth a crude handwoven basket filled partway with any herbs and grasses she could find.
As she neared the entrance to her den, loud noises ahead of her prompted her to pause. She set the basket on the ground and cautiously approached a clearing in the thick woods, trying her best to stay hidden and preparing to flee at any time. Near the entrance to her den were a mare and a very young filly. The filly was unfamiliar to her and frightened her, but she recognized the mare's violet fur. She had found the mare unconscious and suffering from a head injury, and she had somehow been persuaded to dra

"You know," said Twilight to Applejack as they trod along the path, leaving Ponyville behind them, "this would be so much easier if you let me lead."
Applejack snorted. "And give you the chance to escape?" she said, laughing. "Not a chance. I know the way. I think. I can lead fine," she added before stumbling over the cast on her leg, making the other ponies slow their pace again.
From the back of the line, Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes. "This isn't going to be like the time you tried to take us to Zecora's, is it?"
"We got out of that okay, didn't we?" asked Spike, who was riding on Rainbow Dash's back. As he spoke, he lost his grip on Rainbow's coat and nearly toppled, and he had to grab onto her mane to avoid from falling off altogether.
Rainbow winced from the pain, but said nothing as Spike climbed up her mane and back into position. "Eventually," she sai

Fluttershy was exhausted as she returned to her house, the sun setting and painting the world around her a soft and warm russet. She had spent the better part of the afternoon attempting to rebuild a groundhog burrow that had been flooded after the most recent rain. She made a mental note to talk to the Weather Agency at the next chance she got. The rain was important, Fluttershy knew, but there had to be a way to go about it that didn't involve evicting woodland creatures from their homes. A strong breeze whistled through the trees, and the noise seemed louder in the silent twilight hours.
There was something off about the weather, thought Fluttershy. Every part of the weather had to serve a purpose. The strong winds would just cause damage and scare little fillies, and there wasn't much reason for the flying crew to let it happen, not when the wind could be redirected to flow around Ponyville. At least, Fluttershy assumed it could; she'd left her wea

"Well?" said Applejack, running out of patience. "Ya gonna write the letter or ain't ya?"
"I'll do it," said Twilight, her voice panicked. "I just need a quill and paper, right?" She used her horn to lift a blank parchment and a quill from the desk. "Let's see. 'Today I learned that a true friend will always support you.'"
She didn't get a chance to write a second sentence before Applejack pushed the paper away from her. "Now hold on, Twilight," she said. "Don't you need to address it first?"
Twilight swallowed. "Address?" she stuttered.
"Yeah, you silly filly," interjected Pinkie Pie. "Address means you write the name of the pony you're sending it to."
"I know what it means," said Twilight resentfully. She raised the quill to the paper again, but didn't write. She stared at the paper nervously, then at Applejack, then at the paper again. Beginning to sweat, she squeezed her eyes shut, trying to think of a way out.
"Here's a hint," said

Pumpkin was waiting for Twilight anxiously when she climbed out of the burrow, struggling beneath the weight of the homemade saddlebag. When the purple unicorn was finally out of the earth, the filly began jumping, impatient and ready to move.
"Hold your horses," muttered Twilight. "I told you I would take you home. Leaping around like this isn't going to make it happen any faster."
Pumpkin dug her hooves into the earth in irritation. "I know," she groaned. "But we're finally getting a move on, and even then you're slow."
Pumpkin had been ready to leave not long after Twilight had met Fluttershy, but Twilight had refused to let Pumpkin go off into the Everfree Forest on her own. Fortunately, Fluttershy had somehow managed to get Pumpkin to stay, as Twilight would have been unable to force the issue herself.
"I mean, my mum's probably scared to death," said Pumpkin.

"You were right, Applejack," said Rarity.
She was standing over the magnifying sheet she used to inspect jewels. Two pieces of paper lay next to each other on a table. Applejack peered anxiously over her shoulder, curious to see what the other pony had seen, but also desperate to avert her eyes from anything else in the room. There was something about the Carousel Boutique that always put Applejack on edge. As far as the earth pony was concerned, the frilly outfits that decorated the back room were no different than shackles, and just looking at them made Applejack feel trapped.
"I don't see it," admitted Applejack. "Both of them look the same."
The first slip was the note Twilight had left. The second was a star chart Twilight had left with Rarity for reference during the fashion show incident. Notes were scrawled in the margins, labeling the constellations.

Part 2 - The Homecoming Party
After a day of helping Inkalina uproot potatoes and pick pumpkins, Twilight prepared to leave the farm for Ponyville proper. It was the next morning, or at least Twilight assumed so, for she had fallen asleep, dreamed of a life that wasn't hers, and then woken up again. The light hovering in the sky above Ponyville had descended for some time, but had now risen again. She packed what precious few belongings she had, her spare bandages rattling around in what was otherwise an almost empty saddlebag. In exchange for her work on the farm, the family gave Twilight a small assortment of fruits and vegetables. Twilight felt guilty taking it, since the farmers all seemed to barely get enough to eat themselves, but Rarity insisted.
There was something odd about the way the other ponies listened to Rarity, like she was

The world felt hazy around Twilight, as if it wasn't entirely certain what it was supposed to look like. Objects around her seemed wavy and out of focus, and she couldn't look at them without getting a headache. The walls of the cave were almost smooth like oil, and the entire experience felt psychedelic.
This was another dream, thought Twilight. It had to be. She realized that this was the first time she was aware she was dreaming. She wondered what would happen if she went crazy and broke character, but she didn't dare disrupt what was already in progress. If these dreams had a meaning, she wouldn't figure it out by turning them into her own playtime. She had to behave and do what the dream asked her to.
There were hoofbeats behind her; she wasn't alone. When she turned to look, however, she couldn't make out the faces of her comrades, nor how many there were. If this was a memory, it was a memory from long ago, the details long since washed aw

It was the four week mark. Today, Dash was to meet the doctor who had done his best to grant her a second chance at flight. It fit in her schedule well; the Wonderbolt auditions were tomorrow.
Doctor Heartfeld was making his rounds. Though it was never necessarily busy at the Ponyville hospital, there was always work to be done. Caramel was in almost weekly with a new bump or scrape to have looked at from his clumsy work on the Apple farmland, and there was never a shortage of schoolchildren filing through with everything from scuffed knees to 'cooties'. Today, however, the most notable patient he had ever treated was on his clock.
Doctor Heartfeld entered the small exam room, the same worn look as a month before. "Ms. Dash! It's good to see you again. So, are you ready to begin your rehabilitation?"
Dash sat on the bed-like exam table. She had always hated the paper sheets on those things. "Actually, Doc," Dash b

"Wind?" Dash licked the back of her forehoof before raising it high above her into the air.
"Good! Clouds?" she called to herself. Looking from atop the cloud where she was perched, she noted the empty sky around her.
"Clear! Cheering section?" The blue pegasus sat up, ears alert as if expecting a round of praise. After a few silent seconds, she looked over the edge of her cloud at the ground below. "I said 'cheering section?'"
Rainbow Dash could just barely make out the yellow and pink blur. Fluttershy, sitting peacefully on the grass far below the blue pegasus' cloud, shot up to attention. "Oh, um,... yay!" she replied, though barely above a whisper.
"Ugh..." Dash placed a hoof over her face. She knew the pegasus below her had the heart, but her voice usually hid it behind meek expressions. Nevertheless, her cheering section was ready. "Check."
The two pegasi were just outside of Ponyville, away from its busy st

The threaded needle danced through the fabric with the grant of magic, gliding with precision only possible with years of practice. Rarity knew she could just as easily use her trusted sewing machine, but for a project as important as this, she would settle for nothing less than absolute perfection. Having traced the layers of cloth around the torso of the mannequin, she gave it one last tug, drawing the garment-in-design together.
She stepped back, looking over her work. The upper portion of the dress was coming along well. Deep, dark blue cloth fit snug to the mannequin, frilled slightly over the shoulders to accentuate the wearer's form. Silver piping graced the curves of whichever lucky pony wore the dress even more, drawing the eye from shoulder to hip. It was far from complete, still lacking the flowing

"Oh! Rainbow, you're okay!"
Fluttershy was waiting eagerly in the lobby, just as the doctor had said. Upon seeing her wounded friend, she quickly darted the length of the waiting area to hug the pegasus.
"Are you all right? How's your wing?" Fluttershy asked, her voice full of concern.
Dash stepped out of the wheelchair, scornfully looking at the sling on her side. "My wing will be fine, but, I won't be able to fly at the Wonderbolt's audition now..."
Fluttershy smiled, her eyes closing into a look of happiness. "Oh, that's good!"
"'Good?' That's 'good?'" Rainbow felt a flush of anger overcome her. "It's not 'good,' Fluttershy! It's very 'not good!' I missed my chance to fly with my heroes, all because of some stupid accident!" She had yelled a bit louder than she wanted to.

Twilight's eyes fluttered open as the delightful scent of breakfast swam into her senses. Brushing her mane from her eyes, she sat up in bed, stretching off the dense relaxation of heavy slumber. "Morning, Spike," she yawned out. Hearing no response, she peeked over the foot of her bed. Spike's basket was empty, and with the aroma of eggs and pancakes coming from downstairs, she could only assume he was busy cooking the early meal.
She glanced out the window, prepared to meet gaze with her mentor's golden sun as usual, but was instead met with the night's darkness. Odd, she thought, even for the early Spring months. A quick eye at her alarm, however, revealed the hour to be earlier than she thought: just after 5.
"Why in Equestria is Spike up this early?" she asked herself as she stood from the bed. The dragon was no early riser, more often sleeping in well past sunrise. She even remembered that once in the past winter,

Everypony could feel it staring back at them, almost as though the forest itself was alive.

Spike crossed his arms, visibly upset at being spoken to in such a stern way. "I still think it's cool," he muttered quietly beneath his breath.

Twilight Sparkle gave a long sigh as she sat peering over a tall stack of books in her library home one day. She was bored. She had absolutely nothing planned and none of her usual books were keeping her attention. To make it even worse, Spike was off to Canterlot for a couple days again, so there wasn't even anyone to talk to. Not very long ago she would have relished the solitude as a chance to get some serious reading done, but after coming to Ponyville and making so many great friends now it just felt kind of lonely.
Still, she was sure she could find at least some book to keep her interested. There just had to be something. If the usual stuff wasn't working, maybe she just needed to look at something different, something she hadn't read before? This was a library after all; there were still a lot of books she had never read on a lot of topics she still didn't know anything about. Moving languidly to her shelves, Twi
