The Street Photography of Chris Weeks
It was only after many long frustrating hours of trying to describe what’s so special about the photographs of cweeks...
That I finally realized I was trying to describe something that wasn’t there.
I finally realized that the magical something that sets cweeks’ works apart from others is that his camera disappears. There is no sense as you look at his photos of street scenes and other captures that you are looking through a lens, even the lens of a particularly talented photographer. There is a sense of simply walking through a town and seeing what you happen to see – without the

Street photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson called it the “decisive moment”— the captured instant when all the photograph’s elements come together to tell a story in a way a text narrative of thousands of words could never begin to. It is what hooks people, both practitioners and advocate-devotees, on the art form. It is uniquely completely immersive in life— step out into the streets— in which the moment of artistic epiphany can never be guessed at until it suddenly happens. When it is properly mastered, it is as pure as the dawn of each new day, as true as the living organism of a teeming street scene catching a breath as one.
It's no easy task to pull a book together for publication and "The New Street Pho

Quote by Lauren E. Simonutti
“ The misfirings of my beloved/despised mind that conspire to convince me to destroy all have rendered me housebound and led to a solitary life. A creature of past, proof, memory and imaginary friends, I am aware enough to know the things I see and hear are not real, but that does not mean I do not still see and hear them.”
For a very long time Lauren Simonutti's haunting photographs were a spectral presence amongst

The Capture vs. The Pose
portrait of a WW2 vet...
When a subject poses to have his or her photograph taken, the subject tries to project a message about himself or
herself by how he or she “poses”, by the attitude of his or her body language or facial expression.
If the subject is posed by the photographer, the body pulled and prodded into the desired angles,
the facial expression “directed”, it is the photographer who is intending to communicate a message.
In either case, posing or posed, there is undeniably something “false” in the representation.

Early life becomes an exploration of invisible parameters, circles beyond circles, as one pushes out to test the boundaries of safety. There is one’s bedroom, one’s home, neighborhood, school and town, state and nation. Early on, maps become important documents – declarations of being and rights and privileges. In the art world, throughout history, maps have been a constant measure of human progress, from the Phoenecians recording their trade routes over 2000 years ago, or pre-Columbian times in which map

And juvenile they must be, as anyone with a mite more experience would realise that any weight you hope your words might have is completely lost when someone visits your "slander" profile and reads the numbers "0 Deviations", "0 Favourites", "0 Watchers", "No Journal entries", etc.
It renders your words as vacuous as your gallery.
So if you're going to type stuff like "I feel like some of the smut you draw takes away from the credibility of your art as a whole." or

I believe that Minecraft is the future of massive multiplayer games, and I'm surprised that none of the big developers/publishers have cottoned onto it yet.
They look at Minecraft and think its success is down to its business model, or to its blocky, retro charm.
It's down to the fact that you get out of it what you put into it.
With a MMORPG, there are pre-scripted quests. With Minecraft, you set the quests yourself or others.
User created content is the key. All you have to do is provide the players with the tools to build.
There are two types of gamer: wall builders and wall breakers.
Wall builders are the ones that spend an age in an RTS game getting their base just right. They play SimCity and act as Dungeon Master during an RPG.
Wall breakers are the type to follow the mission brief. They get set a quest and they follow it. They're the Call of Duty crowd and they're never more happy than when

Irn Bru is made from girders, the Scots claim. And I believe them.
The alarmingly coloured liquid is “Scotland’s other national drink” after the obvious Whiskey. It’s been produced since 1901 and is now illegal in Canada because it contains Ponceau 4R, a food colourant that is considered a carcinogenic be some food standard agencies around the world. One which may cause a reaction in those allergic to aspirin and intensify the effects of asthma. Even the USA, who are generally happy to eat anything, insisted the formula be altered before sale within its borders, and even then it can only be purchased in 500ml bottles out of the fear that any greater intake will result in someone dissolving.
“Irn Bru” is the phonetically written pronunciation of “Iron Brew”, as said with the collective speech impediment that is the Scottish accent (the result of collapsed nasal passages due to centuries of

Now this was really hard in the VHS era, because a paused image on a VHS is usually either broken up or shakes so much that you’ll have some kind of fit if you look at it too long, it depended on how cheap and sh*tty your machine was.
But I worked really hard at it, man. I spent ages getting the linework just right, I was so careful, and when I peeled the page from the static cling of the bulbous, cathode ray tube screen, the character looked exactly right on the page. And you wanna know what I took away from that endeavour? What all that effort taught me?
Jack f**king sh*t.
You don’t pick up or develop any skills by tracing. You don’t devise and perfect your own methods by tracing. You do not progress as an artist by tracing. All you get is a loss of credibility, especially in this day and age, bec

"Born in 1951 in San Francisco, California, I began drawing and painting at the age of 27. I continued to create artwork as a hobby for 20 years during which time I owned and operated an insurance brokerage firm in San Francisco. I sold the firm in 1998 at age 47 after my home and art collection was destroyed by a fire. I then moved to Los Angeles in 2003 where I began my full time art career at the age of 52"

Tell us a little about the art styles that you use:
I develop different kind of works, I do concept, classical illustration and portraits for commissions but my personal works flows between fantasy and dark surrealism. I’m opened to many things it’s hard for me to find a personal line of work or a personal style, maybe my personal strokes would define my style.
Why did you choose these art styles?
It’s how when you are hungry and you open the fridge, you know exactly what your stomach wants to taste. I develop “my styles” because it’s what feeds my hunger.
How can you define in your own word, surrealism?
Intuition speech is the best definition I could find.
What influenced you to become an artist and how did your family/friend react to the idea?
Like someone said. When we are children we all draw, but mo

Not because of copyright. I understand that when you post something on the internet, you're posting it for everyone to look at, and it's going to get shared around. But the comped-up piece of shit you see above (minus my commentary) is all over the internet - it's far more widely distributed than my original version. Back when I used to read my messages here and on Fetlife, I had 12-20 messages per day about stuff like this. Mostly it was people trying to be helpful and telling me "HEY! Look over here, there's another person who smeared shit all over your art!" And it used to take me an hour every morning to cut and paste URLs into DMCA requests to get this kind of crap taken down.
But that's really only the tip of the emotional iceberg for me. About 1 in 10 times that I post a DMCA I'd get a message from the perso

I've been disappointed to see the various responses to SOPA, especially the "DEVIATION CENSORED" images. They so completely miss the point that I can only assume the people posting them have absolutely no comprehension of what SOPA means, why it's a problem, and what they're actually protesting against.
First off, SOPA is not about censorship. Unfortunately, many of the opponents of SOPA decided to cast it as being about censorship in order to mobilize public opinion. Why did they do that? Unfortunately, they did that for two reasons: 1) they knew that without mobilizing mass support, the bill would go through and 2) they knew that the masses they wanted to get support from simply don't care/understand the real problem enough to do anything - because the truth is much to complicated for the typical internet user. I have some sympathy for that view, because I've discovered over and over again that copyright is, in fact, too complicated for the typi
