Windfall - Part 8A pair of pegasi lounged on a terrace outside the VIP suite at Madison Mare Gardens, looking down at the busy street in front of the stadium's main gates. Down below, a cyan pegasus mare with a multicolored mane and tail stood with folded wings amongst a throng of colts and fillies, looking for all the world like a swan swimming in a lake of swirling manes, tails, stubby horns, and small fluttering wings. She was dressed in a sweat stained, form fitting blue and yellow bodysuit with jagged lightning motifs, the signature uniform of the celebrated Wonderbolts Stunt Flying team.
Shootin' Star popped a grape from a nearby fruit tray into his mouth and cast a scathing glance at the spectacle below. "Just lookit' that show boatin' glory hog down thar." He muttered, his Appleloosan drawl more pronounced than usual. "She just cain't git enough, can she?"

Caramel shared the love seat with Pinkie Pie, gamely trying to sip his coffee or take a bite of a pfeffernusse without spilling or getting crumbs all over due to his fiancee's relentless oscillations.
The pink mare herself was looking a tad green around the gills, and was uncharacteristically uninterested in any of the apple based baked goods freely on tap in the kitchen.
Rarity huddled on the couch wrapped in a rustic quilt, her mane bound up in a red and white checked towel, a cup of tea cooling on a barrel converted into an end table next to her. She was looking a bit peaked herself, her deep blue eyes never settling for long on any particular point in the room, although whether it was from her recent ordeal or simply from being immersed up to her horn in the Apple family's down home country decor she declined to say.

A brisk smile crossed her alabaster face as her red rimmed glasses settled onto her nose. "Well done, darlings. Now that you've finished I'd like to take a few moments to discuss all the orders for the GGG as well as give you the overview for this year's Fall collection."
She turned and summoned a cork board festooned with drawings and fabric swatches from the back room with the glittering magic from her horn. "I'll be returning to Canterlot tomorrow to oversee the work at The Bijou personally, so you'll be on your own until I return for the Summer Sun Celebration."
At this her two assistants, Snips the apprentice tailor and Thimble the seamstress, exchanged a concerned glance. Rarity usually preferred to keep a tight rein on the Gala dresses her boutique produ

All eyes turned to see a stout mare draped in a heavy canvas cloak and broad brimmed hat pick her way across the churned up mud of the courtyard, bulging saddle bags hanging from her sides. When she stepped into the light she revealed a broad, olive green face with a bluff, open smile.
Granny Smith held up a hoof in welcome. "Just the gal I was a-waitin' fer. Howdy, Cabbage Leaf. Y'got my note, I reckon."
The sturdy mare nodded. "That I did, Granny. Sorry if the weather slowed me up a little gettin' here."

He'd picked up a lot in his years as the lavender unicorn's assistant, and knew how to choose books to get the best startled double takes from any students or faculty who happened to pass by.
His stomach rumbled a bit, and he glanced at the somnolently ticking grandfather clock that stood by the door, noticing that Princess Celestia's beaming portrait on the dial had been replaced by Princess Luna's shyly smiling visage.
As the comic book he read wrapped up on a cliffhanger, he began to mutter petulantly under his breath. "Is this it for our hero? Will Thunderdragon ever... eat... again... Will the nefari

With that, she emphatically underlined a string of symbols and rounded on her audience, beaming with satisfaction. "Does anypony have any questions?"

Windfall - Part 3A full throated argument was in strident swing in the muddy courtyard of Sweet Apple Acres main compound as the apple trees lashed and rustled in the wind and rain on the farm's rolling hills. Off to the side of the argument's ground zero, two earth pony sisters stood watching with a mixture of dismay, annoyance, and worry on their faces. Both mares were bundled up in raincoats and galoshes, shiny

Windfall - Part 11A sound of hoof steps in the doorway caused the group of ponies to look up and see a tired looking Nurse Redheart, standing with Granny Smith at her side. Windfall was wrapped in a soft blanket and laid in a beautiful crib that the younger Apple sister had constructed out of the family's namesake wood, the fragrant planks sanded to such smoothness that they felt like silk to the hoof. Apple Bloom beamed with pride to see her niece nestle in with another precious sigh, as Applejack smiled and ruffled her little sister's mane.
Big Macintosh and Fluttershy climbed back onto the bed together after the lights in the room were lowered, sharing a kiss as Granny Smith gently closed the door.
The aged matriarch of the Apple Clan said her thanks to Cabbage Leaf and slipped her a bag of bits, that the stocky earth pony in turn cheerfully split between herself, Nurse Redheart, and Zecora. Their business concluded, the midwife, herbali

Trixie found the days passed by quickly and peacefully from there. She began to develop a routine. By the time she awoke Fluttershy was making breakfast, typically oatmeal, a warm and filing meal that started the day right. Trixie would take her mornings easy, still recuperating. She had gotten her books back from Twilight, and would review them, often in the garden if the weather held. She would then usually accompany Fluttershy into town in the afternoon, having lunch with her or just taking the chance to stretch her legs. She began to fill out little by little, her coat gleamed once more, and she regained her former energy. Only one thing stood between her and true health. That was why, nearly a week since her first visit, Trixie found herself in the Ponyville library again, Twilight Sparkle staring at her.
"Absolutely no magic?"
"None at all." Trixie shook her head. Twilight frowned.

Trixie made her way down the stairs unsteadily the next morning, feeling rested but hungry. She realized as she walked down that she was being watched. Looking around, she found a white rabbit standing on a small end table, glaring at her. It made her feel unwelcome, but Trixie just glared back at it.
"Do not mess with Trixie, rabbit, or she may make you part of her next routine."
The rabbit did not look amused. A noise distracted her, and Trixie looked up to realize the birdhouses hanging from the ceiling were occupied, small sparrows talking to one another from their houses.
"What kind of house is this?" Trixie just stared on. Another bird emerged from a larger house. It was a robin that began to whistle a tune. To Trixie's surprise, a silky voice sang back, wordlessly, in perfect key.
"Good morning- oh, Trixie!" Fluttershy entered the room from the kitchen. Trixie realized she had a light blush on her face and immediately scolded herself. Why was she blushing?

The next morning, Fluttershy and Trixie shared a breakfast of oatmeal again. Trixie found it easier to get around and ate almost an entire bowlful. She realized most of her original wounds were healing nicely, and while her side was tender it wasn't painful to move, usually.
"The others will want to know you're up." Fluttershy said. Trixie glanced down at the floor.
"Will they really care?"
"They're my friends too." Fluttershy responded. Trixie nodded, understanding what she meant.
"Shall we... go out?" Trixie asked. Fluttershy paused.
"Are you...are you sure? They could come..."
"Trixie has healed excellently under such adept care." she smiled at Fluttershy, who blushed slightly in response. "Besides," Trixie said softly, "she promises not to exert herself. She doesn't want to spend a single day more bedridden."
"Okay. A day out would be...nice." Fluttershy smiled. Trixie nodded and waited as Fluttershy cleaned up breakfast. They made their way to the door. That same rabbit

Trixie awoke slowly, feeling an odd peace about her that she hadn't felt in a long, long time. Her entire body tingled pleasantly, her muscles were entirely relaxed, and she found a smile on her face. She stretched a little and opened her eyes.
Almost immediately her mood fouled. There was less light than last time, but she could still make out the same yellow ceiling as before. She quickly remembered where she was and why. That pegasus, she had... tricked Trixie. Tricked her into accepting food and aid, Trixie realized. She wasn't sure what exactly the pegasus had done wrong. But the indignity of it infuriated her.
Trixie looked herself over and gasped slightly. Her body was more bandages than not, her legs entirely covered and several pads held to her sides with medical tape. She realized her muscles were relaxed thank to several damp clothes placed around her shoulders and hips. She shook them off and immediately regretted it, yelping as her bandages rubbed and made her aw

Trixie groaned and stretched as she woke up. Her legs felt like lead. Opening her eyes revealed a familiar ceiling. It was the middle of the night, a half moon providing only just enough light to see by. Trixie wondered if she could go more than a week without passing out anytime soon. She glanced up as if to see her own forehead, and focused for a moment. Sure enough, a pale blue light emanated from her horn.
"Hah hah!" she shouted in excitement. A murmur caught her attention. She looked over and found Fluttershy asleep on her stool, just like a week ago. Trixie smiled and chuckled. She gazed on at Fluttershy for a moment, before a small part of her reminded her of her situation. Her smile turned into a deep frown. She forced herself out of bed on the far side from Fluttershy.
"I've taken enough from you." Trixie whispered. Her horn continued to glow as she enveloped Fluttershy in a magical aura. She gently lifted Fluttershy from her seat and pulled back the covers. She slid

Luna was holding up well on the walk to the library, though Twilight could read the strain on her face. She didn't really know how to behave. what was expected of her? What should she do? Should she treat Luna like a fillyfriend? That didn't even answer any questions, given that Twilight had the dating experience of a particularly socially inept rock.
"Twilight? What's going through your mind?" Luna asked. Twilight realized she had been staring.
"Ah, uh...I'm sorry. I'm just nervous. I don't know what to do, I mean, about...us?" the term seemed so foreign, so odd to apply. Luna both blushed and smiled, equal parts embarrassed and elated. At least Twilight knew she wasn't alone.
"You needn't worry. All you've done, and still you want to do more." she leaned over as they walked and nuzzled the side of Twilight's neck, playing with her mane. Twilight nickered, ticklish.

Canterlot had not fallen asleep yet; carts traveled to their final destinations of the day, couples went about for dinner, shopkeeps began to close up for home. Twilight bowed her head in greetings as she stepped out.
"Celly dotes on me so, it's a little embarrassing." Luna looked past Twilight to the two guards nearby. Twilight gave a nervous smile. She wondered - was this Celestia trying to protect her younger sister, or protect others from her little sister?
"How are you feeling?" she asked to shift the conversation. So far, Luna, while soft-spoken, didn't seem so poorly. Her opinion shifted slightly when Luna hung her head and let out a long sigh.

"Wha- Oh, Spike!" Twilight was surprised to find her assistant crossly tapping his foot outside the door. He came in without her invitation.

But she turned it all into fuel for her study. To figure out what was making Luna sick. Something told her to keep going through the diary. At some point, she had decided, she was going to have to introduce Luna and Rarity to each other for real, given the Princess's professed love of gems (how would the night sky look in rubies, not diamonds, she asked her diary at one point) and pretty things in general. For the first time in a very, very long time Twilight felt, well, stupid. She often felt foalish, out of place or embarrassed. She had never been made to feel stupid.
Luna had meant only to show off a little though, and Twilight held nothing against her. The younger princess had little enough to be proud of as it was. And that little display had helped the Princess make several insights to current tax regulations. Twilight was honored that the Princess had turned to her several times through the night, using her to clarify what the books could not. And she had gotten her ow

But try as she may to concentrate, the whole business between Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie was preoccupying her.
She slammed the tome in front of her closed in frustration. "I've read that same sentence TEN TIMES now!" she muttered. "Confound these ponies! They drive me to distraction..."
She stared out the window. The whole town had been plunged into an eerie darkness. The winds that had come up around an hour ago were growing in intensity. The leaves of the tree the library had been built into shivered and rustled a

The next thing Pinkie saw was Twilight Sparkle's face, contorted in absolute horror, gaping at her.
"Pinkie Pie," Twilight whispered, her violet eyes wide and staring. "What what have you done?"
"What are you talking about, Twilight?" asked Pinkie. She saw that she was in Sugarcube Corner and in front of her was a still-steaming batch of cupcakes fresh out of the oven. "I'm just making cupcakes!"
Twilight's sickened gaze switched from Pinkie to somewhere over her shoulder - and then her mouth slipped open in silent scream at what she saw. Pinkie turned in shock and saw something on one of the work benches the sight was so inexplicable that it took her several heartbeats to realise it was a Pegasus pony, lying on its side.
"Rainbow Dash?" Pinkie whispered. The Pegasus pony was lying on her side and her face wasn't visible, but her unique multi-coloured mane identified her without a doubt. But she wasn't moving

Pinkie was busy with the dishes in the kitchen as Dash lugged the heavy bags of trash out to the back alley behind the bakery. But there was already a pile of garbage there, and it was difficult to find any space for the bags she was carrying.
Dash shook her head in annoyance. "Smoggy and Patchy you guys! What a time to be taking an extended vacation!" She flew up and placed one of her trash bags gingerly on the top of the already teetering pile. "You'd think the Mayor would have organised somepony other than Derpy Hooves to be in charge of the trash collection while they're away." Flying back down, she collected another bag and flew it to the top of the pile. "When will " she grabbed another bag, "everypony learn" and another, "that Derpy just isn't the most" and another. The last bag was on top now, and the tower began to sway.

When Dash woke up, she realised the voice calling her had been doing so for some time. It had slipped into her dreams she'd been back in Flight School in Cloudsdale, and she'd obviously done something to annoy her fellow students: everypony's eyes followed her wherever she went, and everywhere there was a conspiratorial whisper of "Rainbow Dash Rainbow Dash..."
As the Pegasus pony shrugged off sleep and stretched her wings, she looked down from her cloud home to see Twilight calling up to her.
"You're finally awake! Thank Celestia," the unicorn pony muttered. "You're a deep sleeper I've been down here calling you for about five minutes now!"
Dash chuckled. "That's me work hard, party harder, sleep hardest!" But at the word 'party', the events of the previous night came flooding back to her. The relief she'd felt that the bad dream had been exactly that had dissolved away and the

As they approached Sugar Cube Corner, things were strangely quiet in the bakery. It seemed to be closed. Had something happened to Mr and Mrs Cake? Pinkie had felt a little twitchy but it was a kind of twitch she had never felt before. It had started in her tail and travelled up her spine, detoured down her right foreleg then back across her shoulders and down her LEFT foreleg, until finally coming back up to her neck and finishing in her ears, which had gone all floppy. It wasn't a doozy but it WAS something big!
Spike had stubbornly refused to tell her anything as they hurried back.

A low roar sounded from above the pond, compelling the creatures to look towards the sky at the incoming threat. Birds took flight as the animals on the ground ran away, almost as if they could sense the torrent of distress coming their way. The roar became steadily louder, a purple point on the horizon growing in size and ferocity. Any creature that had not fled by then sealed its fate.
In an instant, the once placid pond erupted with a bang, a huge jet of water piercing into the sky as the lavender streak struck into the heart of the body. Large waves crested out from the source as if the edges of the trapped liquid were the mighty ocean itself. Those animals that did not flee were swept away by the inland tidal wave, back o

She could not help but let a tide of tears slip as she realised that the pony was gone... that her suffering was over.

Sunset - Chapter 3: Moonrise Life quickly returned to normal in the small town of Ponyville... well, as normal as things could get. Over the course of the past four weeks, the town had experienced a fire and another baking mishap that somehow made the Baked Bads Incident seem like a mild case of the flu in comparison. In fact, the town still held the lingering smell from the... unpleasantness. It made the orange pony breathe a sigh of relief that she didn't live in the town proper, or that her stubborn pride hadn't caused the worst case of food poisoning in town history anymore.Sunset - Chapter 3: Moonrise in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Applejack trotted down the cobbled streets of town alone that day, still a little early to be selling apples to the townsfolk. Sunset - Epilogue: Redemption Someday, in the distant future, the events of that day would have two different names, depending on who you asked, or what book you read. To most of Equestria, it would be known as 'The Battle at Canterlot', while in the small town of Ponyville, it would be known as 'The Reckoning.' Neither of the names chosen for the whole fiasco were wrong, but neither did they get across how seriously it impacted history. A couple of days after that pivotal event found the new princess cooped up in her old dorm room, hidden as best as she could under the covers. The sudden increase in size, and lack of new blankets left the goddess exposed to the bitterly warm glow of the sun... her sun. My Little Muffin - Part 1 Soft, classical music echoed through the halls and rooms of the humble abode that night. It was a gentle tune, violins and bass bringing forth a powerful, yet emotional crescendo. For some reason, ponies liked playing Posh Ball's 'Canon in D Major' at weddings, possibly to reflect what they hoped the future would bring. Meanwhile, Derpy Hooves busied herself with fixing her dinner: she was not nearly conceited enough to play this sort of thing while reading. My Little Muffin - Part 1 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
The amber-eyed pony hummed along with the tune as she chopped up some celery to put in her salad, looking out her window and into the night sky. Although it grew warmer in her house by the minute, she didn't dare open the windows or else succumb to the horrid stench that came when hundreds of ponies expelled the contents of their stomachs. Derpy shook her head at the thought, dumping the chopped vegetable into her salad.
It all started out innocently enough. The town

However, in a modest house near the centre of the sleepy little town, one pony defied convention, as she did every weekday morning. The blonde mare made her way down the stairs cautiously, the early morning sunlight nearly blinding her through her descent from her bedroom. She had just enough time to grab a quick bite to eat before heading off to work for the morning, and if she was anything, she was punctual.
Digging into the refrigerator, only her bubbly flank would be visible to any pony standing in the hall. She lived alone, so she made no effort to stifle the clanking of bowls, or the p
Blood is Thicker Overall, the day had shaped up to be a usual one for the citizen of Ponyville. Early that morning, she woke up, took care of her usual morning chores, and then went about with her typical Friday morning. She trotted over to the market to buy groceries, stop in at Sugarcube Corner for a quick chat with Pinkie Pie, then went home for lunch. However, that was when her usual schedule ground to a complete and utter halt. Irritated, the pony groaned. Couldn't she ever sit down to eat in peace? She reluctantly got out of her seat and walked over to the front door, opening rather suddenly, about to chew out whomever dared interrupt her meal. There, standing at the door stood the most introverted Pegasus she had ever known... none other than Fluttershy; Ponyville's resident animal expert. The Pool of Midnight
A single light flickered in the encompassing blackness of the night, like an oasis of sight in a desert of blindness. Its soft orange glow bathed the small room, in defiance of the late hour. Luna's moon hung in the sky, so high that it could not be seen from the windows. However, this would not deter the soul who worked through the midnight hour, her owl's quill roughly scratching on parchment.
Indeed, it was rough work translating the book in front of her, but with every word salvaged from the fog of Old Equestrian, she found a rekindled passion for the work she started earlier that day. Twilight Sparkle had happened across the tome in question while sifting through the books that still laid under the floorboards of the Books and Branches Library. Allegrezza - Part Three+One merit Octavia had to give to Buck Daniels, was that it slowly washed away any capability she had for tasting, until she no longer grimaced with each sip. In fact, she even gained the courage to move up to, 'slugging,' the drink, not that she'd ever be caught dead using that phrase. It was after several on-the-house glasses, from an unknown benefactor, that she found herself lacking the co-ordination to even pick up the glasses anymore. Her teeth simply failing to gain purchase on the sides. Upon blearily inspecting the two glass-mirages in front of her, she noted that instead of the stout glasses she had been given all night, she was instead looking at a slender, flute-like glass. Octavia tried her best to save face. Which, for her, meant she took up a huffy posture with her forelegs crossed.

The sun was what raised Octavia from her uncharacteristically late slumber. She shifted herself slightly as she woke, reworking muscles that had lain comfortably unused for the night. Her eyelids flickered open to see the pillow of electric-blue hair she had fallen asleep on that night. The night before came rushing back, Octavia's cheeks lighting up as she recalled some of the events that had...occurred last night. It had perhaps gotten a little bit out of hoof, the worrying part being there was no haze of alcohol to blame this time.
She toyed with Vinyl's mane as she shifted slightly into a more comfortable position again behind her. Octavia found herself re-wrapping her forelegs around Vi
Allegrezza - Part TenVinyl carried her alcohol with roughly the same precision that she carried herself while under its influence. In effect, not very well at all. A hoofful of Stagner's bottles later, and she devolved into a barely coherent mass of stumbling limbs and slurred speech. While it had crossed the minorly tipsy Octavia's mind to simply let her walk home, and maybe watch at a distance with a box of popcorn, she decided it was for the better to help her somewhere safe where she could allow her liver to slog its way through the backlog of alcohol in her system.Allegrezza - Part Ten in Short Stories More Like This
Thankfully Vinyl's choice in the winebar for the night had placed them within reasonable distance of Octavia's apartment. So Octavia had opted to take her home, (not that Vinyl was anywhere near capable of conveying a yay or neigh on that question.) It was due to this turn of events that Octavia found herself half-propping, half-dragging Vinyl to her home. In essence she had become a ponified crutch, and admittedly, her alcohol intake for t

It must be said that she had never awoken upside-down on her own couch before. Octavia was genuinely unaware whether the pounding in her head was the alcohol permeating her blood, or the blood itself collecting in her head. Her head itself lolled over the edge of the couch in as graceless a way as could be imagined.
She shifted her body, trying to at least get the ceiling to go back to where it belonged, and return is space to the floor. This turned out to be more difficult than she had imagined, as her drunken self had apparently managed to delicately balance herself in this precarious position. A balance that was lightly stolen away as she moved, and fell head first onto the carpet, the rest of her body joining its leader in a crumpled mass above it.

The daisies simmered in the baine-marie, while she lightly fried some cowslips in olive oil. The lettuce was being steamed nicely, she felt she could quite happily declare this dinner a success. It was difficult to fail in creating a salad at least, but she had prepared a delicious basil and parsley dressing for it, making it a touch more interesting than simple leaves and flowers. A recipe she had adapted from her favourite cookbook, Olive-Oil: The Naked Chef.

The two stared each other down, willing the other to make the first strike. It was Octavia who made the first light jab, aiming for Vinyl's mouth. Vinyl parried the stick with a deft move of her own, poking Octavia's cheek for good measure. Octavia jabbed once more, pulling back as Vinyl moved to block the attack, then bombing the pickled onion straight into her open mouth. To an outside observer, this may have presented itself as being slightly foalish. Octavia loomed over the unconscious mare, once more prodding her hoof sharply into her withers. Ponies are not often known for their burrowing capabilities, but Vinyl managed to counteract both nature and Charles Darwhinny, and evolved the ability to burrow ever deeper into her covers to avoid Octavia.

Octavia covered her face with a hoof, sighing into the sole. "Because I can hardly be seen to go to such an event alone."
Vinyl mused over the comment as the pair trotted towards the performance hall. It was just visible in the distance, exactly the sort of thing Victorian-era ponies thought would look cool. To Vinyl, it just looked old. She couldn't help but remember the jumpers her grandmare would knit for her as a filly, and she'd have to wear, begrudgingly. She stopped her daydreaming, turning back to Octavia.
"And you don't have any friends who would...y'know, actually like this kinda music?"
Octavia didn't meet her gaze, but she saw her eyes track everywhere from the floor to awkwardly pointing away to her right. Anywhere but a place where she'd meet Vinyl's own gaze.
"They were...all busy. You know, playing their own orchestral pieces and the like." She followed with a grin that made Vinyl want to push further, ho

Vinyl watched from the living room, as the silence from the kitchen signalled the fact that Octavia was in fact not making tea, and may or may not be having a mental breakdown and stuffing her head in the oven. While Vinyl was partially worried, she didn't want to intrude in on her, mainly because her hopes might have been shattered, and she would've just found Octavia moping around next to the mop pail. Instead she tried to reach out her benevolent ideals using her voice.

Rarity paced around her workshop, deep in thought. Sure, there were dresses she was supposed to be making, but she couldn't concentrate on any of them right now; they weren't due anytime too soon anyway. It bugged the designer to leave so many projects unfinished, but there were more pressing matters to attend to at the moment. "Oh Fluttershy, how do I even go about asking you? Rarity let out a sigh. After the initial shock of finding out Twilight liked another mare let alone her had worn off it actually seemed kind of cute. It was not unlike the romantic dramas the dress designer enjoyed reading: she had a forbidden love for someone, only to be the object of somepony else's affections. Still, she admitted, it was a lot more fun to read about this sort of thing than it was to actually live it.
First and foremost, she needed to apologize to Fluttershy and make up for being so forward with her. How un-ladylike! It would be terrible to lose a friend over such a thing,

David and his army marched into Appleloosa the following day. Most of the glances they received from the ponies in the town were those of confusion or concern. He didn't blame them, he would probably be concerned too if 300 ponies in armor walked through his town. "Can I help you fellar's with something?" A pony wearing a sheriff's badge said as he walked toward the group.

They asked as the surrounded him and prevented him from moving. "Soldie

"RISE AND SHINE PARTNER!!!" David's deep sleep was shattered by Applejack shouting directly in his ear. "It's time for Earth element training with your coach, Applejack!" David sat up and looked at his watch. The analog numbers flashed 5:00am on the screen. "AJ it's really early." He said mumbling his words. "EARLY?! The Apple family is always up at 5:00am sharp." She yanked the blanket off his bed pulling him off as well. "Now on your feet, you got a lot of work to do today, so we need to get an early start."
Applejack raced downstairs as David rose to his feet. "Well, no point in going back to sleep, might as well get going." He dressed in some light clothing; a t-shirt and light elastic cotton pants, mainly used for running. He walked down the stairs to see Twilight at the table leaning over a cup of coffee. "Morning Twilight." David said as he grabbed an apple out of the bowl on the table. "Ugh " was the only response he received. He t

David quickly threw off his jacket revealing his Guardian Armor as he reached into his bag and quickly withdrew his pistol. "Do you HONESTLY think you're human weapon can hurt me Guardian?" Nightmare Sol said as she slowly walked toward him. David's heart was pounding in his chest. Every one of his emotions was going haywire. He was worried that he couldn't save any of the girls despite their screams driving him insane. He was angry that he hadn't seen Nightmare Sol's arrival sooner despite all the ways Celestia had been acting. As they both circled each other waiting for a chance to attack it was she who spoke first.
"Do you hate me now Guardian? Do you hate me for taking poor Princess Celestia away from you before you could get your apology? You should be scared of me. I have more power than you can ever imagine!" She said her red eyes glowing. "You didn't stop me before and you won't stop me now." He said drawing his sword. "Oh but would you rea

David and the girls were so excited about going to Canterlot castle that they all barely slept that night. David himself however could not sleep at all. Nightmare's flooded his mind as he slept. He would awaken with a cold sweat only to find that he was still in the Library, Twilight sleeping next to him. After his 3rd nightmare he didn't go back to sleep but instead began looking through some of the books in the library.
One book caught his eye immediately. It was dark black and had a silver spine, but it was the title that got his attention. "The Gates of Darkness" he said as he opened the book. It seemed strange when he woke up, but he now realized that throughout his nightmares a voice had kept repeating Gates of Darkness. David tore the book open and began reading as quick as he could. He learned that the Gates of Darkness were two spell enchanted barricades that the creators of the planet; Solaris and Eclipsis had constructed to keep all the darkne

Twilight gasped at what Luna had said. "Kill everpony?" She repeated in shock. "Yes Nightmare Sol is feeding off the evil that still looms in Equestria, but that's not what she wants entirely." Luna said frightened. "Then what in the hay does she want?" AJ said confused. "What she wants is to open the Gates of Darkness." Luna said quietly since the guards were still standing in front of their cell.
Twilight gasped at the mention of the Gates of Darkness. She had read about them in one of her books, and had been terrified of it so much that she had nightmares for 4 days straight. "The Gates of Darkness?" Rarity repeated. "Yes. The Gates of Darkness are a magical barrier that seals all the evil and darkness Equestria has ever known behind them. The creators of Equestria: Solaris and Eclipsis saw that when they created Light in Equestria, darkness tried to corrupt and block it. So they sealed the darkness behind the Gates and it has remained there e

Mrs. Cake looked up, her attention having been focused on making the front counter spotless. "Oh, hello, dearie! Back from your trip so soon?"
"Only you could consider it 'so soon,'" laughed Whooves as he trotted to the front counter, "I'm sorry, were you doing something?"
"Oh, don't worry about it," she assured, "We usually don't get customers this early. What can I getcha?"
"You wouldn't happen to have any banana-chocolate-chip muffins, would you?"
"Well..." Mrs. Cake checked behind the counter and the display. "Not right now, but I can have some ready in a jiff!"
"I would really appreciate it if you did, thanks."
Mrs. Cake turned and poked her head into the kitchen. "Honey bunches? I need a batch of banana-chocolate-chip muffins, please!"

"Of course, dearie!" Mrs. Cake reached behind the counter, sliding some pastries from the display into a brown paper bag. Setting it in front of the red stallion, a concerned look dawned on her face. "Are you feeling alright, Big Mac? You look a little out of it, if you don't mind me saying..."
Mrs. Cake was putting it lightly. In the past two days, Big Macintosh had gotten a maximum of six, maybe eight hours of sleep, and it showed: he was slouching noticeably, his eyes were glazed over, even his wheat sprig wa

"But a week? Just studying the same thing? In summer?"
"Well, you know how the students at the school are. They don't ever stop studying, and they never just want to scratch the surface of something; they want every possible detail."

"They certainly have," agreed Caramel, "They're just not as gifted storytellers."
Cloudkicker snorted a laugh. "I guess not."
They walked in silence for a few minutes, simply enjoying each others' company. Caramel then caught sight of a familiar red stallion.

The celebration was in full swing, and Pinkie Pie, as expected, was absolutely enraptured. As per her usual habits, she had been bolting about and checking with all the guests, making sure that everypony was drinking, eating, talking, dancing, or, if nothing else, simply enjoying themselves.
After doing this a much longer time than anypony else possibly could have without collapsing (and possibly going into overexertion-induced cardiac arrest), Pinkie stopped by the drink table and poured herself some punch. Her tongue was starting to feel the eensiest-bit dry.
Applejack laughed as she trotted over. "Pinkie Pie, ah don't understand how you haven't worn yerself out yet." She reached for the punch ladle, then paused. "Berry Punch h

Through the door trotted - oh, what a surprise! Yet another pony levitating a stack of papers about twice the size of the last. "Princess," he said, oblivious to the piercingly-annoyed glare in Luna's eyes, "The request to change the Equestrian national tree from the Holly Oak to the Bay Willow has been withdrawn, so the reinstatement paperwork needs to be filled out."
This late at night? "Alright," replied Luna, already readying her quill, "I think I can-"

That again?! "Of course." Luna nodded, keeping her voice
