Korra took three quick, deep breaths before leaning forward and pushing again. She let out a series of short but loud screams before letting herself fall back again.
"I don't wanna do this, I don't wanna do this!" she gasped.
"I know, but you don't have a choice right now, so keep going." Mako watched her start to push again, wishing that the doctor had allowed her to have stronger painkillers. Since she was considered high risk, they knew from that start that there was no way that was going to happen, but seeing Korra scream like this made Mako feel like someone should be doing something for her.
Korra grunted as she hit the pillows again. Mako quickly grabbed a cool cloth and started dabbing it on her forehead.
"Why isn't it here yet?" Korra groaned.
"It'll be here soon, it's just being stubborn." He tried to smile at her. "We're going to meet our baby soon, Korra."

Come on, Korra, it's been over a month, the young Avatar told herself, You should be getting better by now.
She attempted to focus her attention on making herself breakfast, but it was no use. She ended up burning her bread and knocking over her juice. It didn't matter, though. She didn't have much of an appetite these days.
After her failed attempt at food, Korra wandered back up to the bedroom. Mako was still in the shower, so she still had to occupy herself for the time being. She pulled open one of her dresser drawers, and then immediately slammed it shut.
I thought I told Mako to clean that out.
The shower shut off. Mako stepped out of the bathroom, hair still wet and dressed in only his trousers.
