New costume debut - Dragoncon 2011

Character: Baroness - G.I. Joe
Costume made by Yaya (moi)
Armor made by Pit Viper Studios
Photos by Paul Tien, thank you so much!

This is a collaboration between Pit Viper Studios [link] and moi. I was approached by Len and Audrey several months ago with the idea of modeling a one-off set of Baroness armor for their prop studio as a way to promote their company and our mutual fandom love for GI Joe. I was honored to be considered! Since I had been planning on making Baroness at some point any way, it seemed like the perfect time to get to work.
Toby and Audrey sculpted the pieces, and Len, Kevin, John and the rest of the Pit Viper crew cast the amazing set of armor for me, made of fiberglass. It is surprisingly comfortable and sturdy to wear and I could move around easily. And it looks totally badass and protective!

I took on the responsibility to put the rest of the suit together. Looking at many many reference images of Anastasia (:iconadamhughes: and :icondiablo2003: amongst others), I decided to put my own spin on her signature bodysuit. My goal was for it to be more than just a spandex bodysuit, so I designed a two piece suit featuring seaming details and quilted sides down the arms and legs, as well as scalloped three-piece sections of leg armor. The material is a rubber coated 4-way stretch spandex, which I chose because I wanted the gloss-coated armor to stand out from the matte-finish suit and contrast each other. I made a pattern for the bodysuit and sewed it from scratch. The wig is a pretty lace front that was sleek and not too long, since I didn't want to cover up the armor too much. The glasses were a surprising bitch to find lol. You can't walk into an Optic store and buy a set of rims, they'd have to do an exam and fit non-prescription lenses in. And I didn't want to have lens-less rims! So after much searching I got these at a Dollar Store.. in Montreal, Canada lol.
The weapons were so much fun to pose with. I borrowed a big ass gun from :iconbeautifully-twisted: since she did Sweet Pea from Sucker Punch the day before. Thanks, babe! I had also brought a P-90 which would have looked cool but I couldn't carry more than 2 guns around. The hand gun is my Amber gun haha.

Honestly the only thing I'm somewhat missing is a belt. I debated for a while whether or not to have a belt because it will break up the stream-lined seams I so painstakingly put on the bodysuit.... then I got stuck in Germany for three days because of Hurricane Irene and lost that time to work on costumes for Dragoncon. So I said screw the belt. But after wearing the costume, I must say it would be nice to have someplace to put my room key/money/phone, so a belt will be made when I find the time!

Character: Amber - "Sucker Punch"
Costume made by - Yaya Han
Photography by Brian Boling
Model - Yaya Han

Thank you, Brian, for taking these shots at SDCC!

You can see the costume pretty well in these pics - I made it the same way they did it in the movie, which is by cutting up a Vietnam era pressure flight suit and altering it HEAVILY.
If you look at the images of the actual costume on display here: [link] On the right side of the hip there is a finished hole, through which an air hose is attached to the plane and on the inside of the flight suit there are rubber air bags sewn in that expand with air and compress the pilot's body parts so they won't pass out from all the flight maneuvers.
Brian was able to get his hands on such a flight suit for me and I spent hours seam ripping the inside air bags and the pressure tubes that followed the length of the arms, legs and back of the suit.
Then I chopped it in half and replaced the zipper, made the pants into chaps, lined them, and used the left over matching fabric to make the hat. I had to make my own pattern for the hat.
The gun/magazine holster and belt were the next to tackle, and I give many thanks to Kathy of GodSaveTheQueenFashions for helping me pick out the leathers and tools and showing me leather working techniques. I used a heavy veg tan leather hide and made my own pattern for the pieces, cut them out and punched stitching holes for hours. Then heavy duty snaps were added as well as D-rings. After making all the pieces, I hand dyed them black and shined them up. It took about a day and a half to make and assemble the whole get-up.
The gloves are neoprene and leather.
Last pieces to make were the panties, bra and choker, and thank God I found the right pleated trim. I altered a bra by adding the zipper and the trim, same with the panties. Add some fishnets and a lollipop and I was ready to kill zombie nazis!

I'll say that by the end of SDCC, I had eaten 6 lollipops and was pretty sick of them. Thinking of casting a fake lollipop, but then I'd have to put plastic in my mouth ugh.

Looking forward to more Sucker Punch timez with my ladies at Dragoncon!

Psylocke Psychic Knife

This image was based on of course being a loyal obsessed Xmen fan growing up and pretty much wanting to be Psylocke ( If I was a dude it would be Wolverine :D ). I took a stab at it in 2009 and pretty much wanted to redo it since I wanted to pay homage to the artist Jim Lee.

The outfit needed to be made out of something other that spandex since Psylocke's outfit is most def. not a spandex material, unlike my other cosplays. This needed to be something that was skin tight, and also fitting in the right areas which spandex doesn't do majority of the time and is rather cheap in appearance.

I grew out my hair for about 3 years and waited to get it to Psylocke's length, and went through an insane process of coloring it myself, here is the process (link if you'd like to see)
[link]
I didn't want to mess up all the work with a the use of a wig, it'll totally lose her hairstyle like in the comics.

The belt was custom made using rubber and several other pieces, as well as the outfit is made out of latex.

if you have a blog and would like to feature my collab with Long Vo on this image of Psylocke I am more than happy to send some images your way ^_^ <3 Thanks for the love and....

Lady Punisher Cosplay made entirely by me :)
Photography by the most amazing Anna Fischer :D (I love her)
taken at Katsucon Washington DC

I have always loved the Punisher ever since I first checked out the comics when I was little. I loved Frank Castle's story and how he was a vigilante crime fighter and had this toughness about him, and I am usually drawn to cosplay people that have a twisted background, or fundamentally interesting dent in their past that makes them tick the way they do. (I like the demented in a sense) I also love that the Punisher always had heavy artillery with him, which makes him carry such awesome guns. I tried to get similar looking airsoft guns for this shoot, possibly someday the real thing.

The belt was the hardest part of this cosplay because although it doesnt look like it, the belt is made up of 40+ pieces of extra pieces of marine vinyl that were carefully layed out and cut accordingly, since I wanted to keep it true to comic book form. I was inspired by Kotobukiya's beautiful bishoujo figures that I collect, so I cut my wig in a somewhat sexier cut, and made the boots to have a 70's cut to them. The fabric I chose almost mimics the look of a wetsuit, which is almost like a Gore-tex material, super hard to find but picked up enough to finish this look. I will be posting pictures of how I made the whole outfit soon :) Makeup and hair styling etc: All my own

My Marvel Bishoujo Black Widow Kotobukiya Cosplay [link] I made just in time for San Diego Comic con. This was made in about a week. (The original is a gold belt in the comics, but I decided to do this version since it was harder, I tend to like a challenge)

The process was quite a stressful one since I been working on and off with the idea of doing a Black Widow cosplay for quite some time (about 2 years) but looking for the right materials for the bracelets and belt took the longest to figure out. So I just went ahead and made the belt myself using good ol' bondo/plaster, 3 kinds of sanding grits, a couple of hours to mold each piece on carved (also sanded) wood, spray paint etc etc, I'll be putting up the process on my site [link] soon for those who are curious :)

As for the gun its a HK replica airsoft that I own

makeup/wig haircut: Me

This was taken at the Kotobukiya (Japanese Figures/toys) Area in SDCC :) By: John Yang during the convention.

GI Joe - Baroness Cosplay @ Winter LFCC 2013

During my wandering around LFCC I stumbled across this awesome Baroness cosplay, a lovely American lady, though I had to dandy around another photographer (who in my book was a little bit too dismissive ... >__>) I got a couple of shots in the end.

If anyone knows who this is let me know :).

Chun Li - Street Fighter Cosplay LSCC 2014 @ So Say We All

Leaving these kinda till last here is my very sparse offering of Yaya Han pictures from London Super Comic Con. Her costumes are so well made, I think one of my few LSCC regrets is not taking any of her Baroness .. I possibly have a crush over her Baroness ... possibly xD

I'm still on the fence on how I feel about this light effect, a few folk have said it looks good but maybe I just wish I had a darker background and a better shot to show it off on.
