10 years ago today was the scariest day of my life.
I was in fifth grade, and everything started out as a regular morning. I made it to school safely and was in class ready to learn. Around 9am, someone came in and whispered in my teacher's ear, and then she turned to us and said in a quiet, gentle voice that one of the Trade Towers in New York City had been hit. I remember fear washing over me, because a couple weeks prior during dinner my dad had been telling us a story about something that happened at work. My father is a carpenter in NYC, and I thought I remembered him mentioning that he was doing a job in the Trade Towers, but I wasn't sure. I was only 10 at time time, after all. At first, I passed it off and thought that I was wrong, but it ate at me the rest of the day. By the time I was walking home from the bus stop, I was in tears.
