Right brain warriors in the new age will be the coveted candidates ordained to lead and guide us; lifting the torch to light the way forward into a brave new beautiful world.
Artists have always feared that they are unappreciated and that the march of progress comes only from business, science and their machines. 1984 was imagined by an artist projecting these exact fears. Our guest essayist suggests the computer will never be our master, but only the super high speed counting machine it was meant to be leaving humans with only one pure task— being creative.

What is it about a fictional character first introduced to the public in Great Britain in 1887 that has kept him being reincarnated, with generationally-correct upgrades, over and over again in film and on television? Who is this literary hero whose portrayal over the past century by such past masters as Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett to today’s vanguard talents Robert Downey, Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch has inspired such a continuing outpouring of fan appreciation?

Howl’s Moving Castle is best known as the 2004 animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
While it is as beautifully animated as all of Studio Ghibli's other films this was one of the few times Miyazaki based a film on an existing work. The film is an adaptation of British author Diana Wynne Jones’ 1986 young-adult novel by the same name and the first book in th

That I finally realized I was trying to describe something that wasn’t there.
I finally realized that the magical something that sets cweeks’ works apart from others is that his camera disappears. There is no sense as you look at his photos of street scenes and other captures that you are looking through a lens, even the lens of a particularly talented photographer. Having been thinking a lot about the origins of our globally held Dragon mythos in a recent article Reptilicus Infernicus, I couldn’t help but notice the Cthulhu legend was always lurking at the edges of my mind as I was researching the subject matter.
The Enemy at the Gates, the “Other”, forever lurking in the darkness and plotting an invasion most evil and an enslavement most hideous, is probably the original seminal “narrative” that was born when humans first acq

The vibrant digital paintings of alicexz are fiery, emotional, and incredibly memorable.
The colors of her creations (mostly portraits of popular TV and Film characters) are unusually vibrant, which is remarkable considering how layered they appear to be. It’s sort of like what manga characters might look like if painted by one of the Dutch Masters. And this artist exhibits just the right amount of quirkiness to leave us wanting to know more: she has a penchant for painting redheads. But, then of course, there’s a lot of red and golden fire burning through most her artworks.

I was going to tell you all about Ohio and all the bad things that happened, but I swear to god I can't remember a damn thing! This is the first time I've repressed something! Should I be worried?
Okay, so we had to take a bus up to Ohio. 12 hour bus ride. I wrote half of the next chapter of Fever on the way up, and I finish it last night on the way back. On the ride up, the bus broke down TWICE! And THEN we got hit by a tornado! And when we finally got there, the power was out at the hotel!!! Then the next day the bus had a flat tire so we had to pile into a van a quarter the size of the bus. Some other bad stuff happened like the grandma of one of the girls falling and busting her head open on the sidewalk. But good news, I got new earrings and headphones. But then on the third day we were there, I was walking with my headphones around my neck and some guy was walking the other way with a tripod sticking out of his backpack, and it snagged my headphones

Only half an hour ago... I saw the Hobbit..... :iconrlytearplz: Yeah, that was my expression. I am SUCH a Lord of the Rings fan!!!! Oh man... just.... just... I CAN'T EVEN!!! :iconiloveitplz:
Okay. Where do I even begin?! The movie was three hours of pure AWESOME!!! I especially love young Bilbo (played by Martin Freeman)! He's just got this adorable puppy dog face! And he's also very funny. And adorable. Aw man, I just wanna hug him! *clears throat* So the gist of the movie is that Gandalf the Grey recruits Bilbo to be the burgler for group of dwarves who are trying to reclaim their home from a giant fire-breathing dragon named Smaug!!! And even though the most you see of Smaug is his shadow, his tail, his FIRE, and his beautiful... orange... eye...... *gets distracted* Smaug is just freaking awesome, and I cannot W

Okay, on Sunday, I saw the movie Chasing Mavericks. It's a surfing movie, and it reminded me a LOT of Surfs Up (except in a few parts....). Let me just say that this movie is incredibly.... emotional. Gerard Butler (or Stoick as you may know him) was awesome in it!!! But it sounded like he was trying to do an American accent sometimes, and then he would unconsciously revert to his Scottish accent. But I love his accent. Now, there were two parts in the movie where I cried. Not the "tears streaming down my face" kind of crying, but the "I'm terrified and sad and my eyes are leaking salt water" kind of crying. The first part was in the middle when something incredibly sad happens out of nowhere, and the second part was the ending....
.... the freaking ending. I swear, it took me by freaking surprise. Beca

This other girl who sucks at volleyball (I won't say her name because it's a taboo) tried out, and she - not surprisingly - did NOT make the team!!! In fact, the only reason she made the team in middle school is because her mother (Crazy Tracy, or Mentally Ill Tracy as we call her) is freaking terrifying and she stalked the coach until he let her play.
But now that she didn't make the team, her mother CALLED THE COACH and asked if she could practice

Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming in Personal More Like This
