The Comfort of Mindless Obedience
When is information true and useful and when is it just “propaganda?” Why in fact is an image or phrase or animated art sequence “propaganda” rather than it simply being a “lie?” What about acceptable lies that define our society as much as they degrade it - - for example commercials that obviously hype a product with untruths or political advertisements full of unachievable platitudes.

About Artists on Writers
Writers will always find inspiration in the visions of artists, always feeling compelled to tell the stories behind the moments captured in artists’ unforgettable images,
Artists will always find inspiration in the words of writers, always feeling compelled to lend visual reality and habitat to the characters described in the scribe’s haunting words.
I was inspired to create this series by naikki while looking through her gallery of diverse artwork and reading through her journals which are focused on her favorite inspiring writers and thinkers. I felt certain there must be beautiful artwork in the form of portraits and tributes to these writers and their stories. I found most of naikki's choices of quotes to be

It’s rare that a “new” iconic monster is born and becomes forever identifiable,—— no matter the variations, by generation after generation. So it was when George Romero created the ultimate “zombie” in his Night of the Living Dead in 1968. Zombie Apocalypse fans today may have never heard of George or seen the original “Night,” but the zombies they so love in fare like The Walking Dead

1. Why do you like the enclave?
The Enclave, to me, despite their fascist ways, seem like the true power of people actually capable of controlling the Wasteland and bringing back the true America. They handle technology much better than the BoS, have better intentions than the NCR, and actually tries to follow their own doctrine and removing what is a grave threat to the new America. They're stronger, they're smarter, and just better.
2. Which of the fallout games do you have, and which is/are your favourites?
That's a tough one, in terms of the latter. New Vegas actually allows you to pick and choose what faction or ideology you wish to support, Fallout 3 was more addicting and more unique, and Fallout 1 and 2 both held a spot in history in terms of PC gaming and early, third-person role-playing. I'd have to say Fallout 3 in terms of quality, and Fallout 2 in terms of originality.
3.What are you're favourite things about the Fallout series?
Rewarding. No matter how ma

The common misconceptionWhen giving workshops last weekend, I was confronted with something at least remarkable. The common misconception in Deviant Events More Like This
I had a random chat with a girl that apparently knew me from DeviantArt. We a friendly conversation about art such. It wasn't that strange, until she concluded her message with.
"It's nice talking to you. I always wanted to know what you were like. You know... since you draw so well"
And I was like... "Huh? What?"
Some people see me as a talented writer or artist, others (including myself) raise the bar even higher.
But regardless of what you see as skilled or not, I don't think there's such a thing as 'them' and 'us' in the art world. It's too small of a world. We're too alike. And I think most of us aren't exactly prone to living a celebrity lifestyle anyway. Bitches & bling don't match well with the usually quiet lifestyle an artist prefers.
When I started doing painting, I looked up to many of the lo
Conquer your artblockI think every artist out here has experienced it at least one time in their career: the so called artblock. A moment of total lack of inspiration that suddenly hits you, and leaves you unable to create. Most often the solution is to just wait. Most artblocks will solve automatically with time. But there are circumstances in which an artblock doesn't automatically disappear, or when you have deadlines to catch. In that case, you might be helped by some basic tips to conquer your artblock.Conquer your artblock in Deviant Events More Like This
Over the years, I've experienced an artblock (or writersblock, as they call it for fiction writers) many, many times. Most of them were short, but the longest lasted over 2 years. Most of them solved on their own. But sometimes I just needed that little bit of extra help. Therefore, I made a list with a few tips and tricks to make your artblock go away. Hopefully it'll help you as well as it did me.

EncouragementWhen I started out on DeviantArt, I used to be one of those artists that thought I could never do art properly.Encouragement in Deviant Events More Like This
I'll start saying that I spend most of my childhood getting only little encouragement.
My parents were, like many other parents, convinced that art wasn't that much of a useful skill since it's nearly impossible to earn money with -- and would've liked it if I spend my time doing something more useful instead. At school I was that pathetic kid without friends. Creative, yet very introverted. The one that gets bullied in the schoolyard. Needless to say; it was rare to find people saying something nice about me, and it was even more rare to find someone actually encouraging me.
Back then, I used to believe that I was alone. I initially signed up to DeviantArt to find people with similar interests. But it happened to change my mind along the way. When I came into contact with other artists, I came to realize that there were in fact many people just like me. People th

5 Tips On Fantasy ReligionsI'm not looking for a religious discussion. If someone starts one, I will rip your face off and block your comments.5 Tips On Fantasy Religions in Personal More Like This
1. How involved a deity is affects religion. At least in fantasy, anyway. Now of course there are plenty of fantasy religions that don't bother to clear up whether a god actually exists, and the driving elements of the story or more about religion and power rather than spirituality. So considering whether god or gods actually really do exist at all in your story is a perfectly cromulent question. However, if a god does exist, and is constantly involved in the lives and well-being of its worshipers, enemies or non-believers might think twice before some serious smiting ensues. For that matter, followers of an attentive god might watch their mouths. (Look at the Greek Gods and what they did for slights!) A god may be protective, but that doesn't necessarily mean benevolent. In fact, a god or gods may have the att
5 Ruts You'd Better Not Fall Into As A Writer1. Seeking validation on the outside and getting shocked when you get critique. Validation comes from within, folks. Hard life lesson, but there you are. First of all, every artist of any kind has to learn to tell themselves they've done good work even in the face of their detractors. (One just hopes they balance it out with taking valid critique into consideration so they improve.) If you can't, you're not going to accomplish much. Second, I'm not saying that encouragement and fans and book deals aren't very nice things, but to the creative process they can be massive distractions. I read recently that a core of stillness is necessary to the creative process, and the more distracted I get, the more I understand it. I have seen entirely too many writers (and by this I mean full-grown adults who should be emotionally mature and everything) seek validation in a desperate and pathetic way, and get outraged when — gasp — someone tells them their writing could improve. I have seen pe5 Ruts You'd Better Not Fall Into As A Writer in Personal More Like This

Naturally, such a high profile artist such as Miyazaki coming down hard on Otaku has offended a lot of people and a bit of backlash has sprung up because of it. I’d like to try and reassure some of you that it’s not as bad as it might sound, and here’s why (please keep in mind this is from an American perspective).
“Otaku” in Japan is (or was) an offensive word, usually embodying the worse traits of obsessive basement dwelling collection completing socially inept geeks. It gained widespread negative connotations after the 1989 “Otaku Murders” carried out by Tsutomu Miyazaki (which are to
'Don't Feed the Trolls' needs to die.I wish I was joking, but another bout of sexual harassment against women creeped up this week (only days after the Might No. 9 fiasco). This time in the form of an indi video game a woman is trying to get green-lit to Steam. The game is about depression and is just suppose to help people understand what it’s like living with it, and for this “grievous” action she’s been the target of harassment campaigns. I'm sorry but this is important and I want you to read this.
First of all, I want to thank you. Thank you for something you don't even know you've done. But it will be explained in this text.
As you all probably know, life has its ups and downs. Sometimes it gives you lemons, sometimes you go through really tough times and sometimes the unthinkable happen and you don't even know if you are strong enough to survive it.
For me and my family this year has been very, very though.
Today it's been a year since my stepfather died.
When someone really close to you passes away, it's hard to accept it and even harder to move on. But when a person you love. A person you trust chooses to take his/her own life, it's indescribable. You can't even think about moving on. You are left with so many questions and feelings you can hardly think straight.
But one thing is certain: life will never be the s
