A play of light as showers pass through the mountains while the sun illuminates them at the same time. Hanalei Bay can be seen on the right. At full size you can see 4 or 5 waterfalls coming down the mountains. 2 horizontal images stitched.

Thanks!

After a fun sunset the colors kept on going. Always stay til dark! The high clouds lit up and these pastels came to life. The lines in the sand made a perfect fg. You can see the Kilauea Lighthouse in the background.

Thanks!

Hallett Cove
South Australia

I should really call Hallett Cove the shore of endless compositions. It is one of the most frequent spots that I have revisited and each time the lighting varies, the water varies, the textures of the rocks subsequently also vary. This shot was taken just before at dawn with a 3 stop soft and 2 stop hard GND. I took probably 20 or so frames before I was happy with the way the water swirled down those lands of rock (even then , I'm not completely satisfied with it)

Kirkjufell
Iceland

This was one of the last shots of a beautiful evening just outside Grundarfjordur when the weather finally began to clear. The previous 2 days had been washed out with solid rain. I used manual blending of 4 exposures and a photomatix produced image in this one. In coming weeks, I hope to present a video on Iceland flicking through every picture I took there in 2010 case people were curious!

This is an example of the 'photoreel' videos I've been working on : from Nepal in this case

Landmannalaugar
Iceland

This has to be one of the most remarkable locations I have visited even if the weather was not as good as it could have been. Located in the interior of Iceland, we arrived there by 4WD bus from Reykjavik and spent one night there before setting off on the beautiful laugavegur hike. The long days meant long twilights which made photography even more satisfying at the ends of the day. This was dawn on the second day after I had slipped on those rocks giving me wet feet for the rest of the day's hiking.

I had a team building excercise with Airbus this week from Monday to Thursday up in the Lake District. I headed up early to do some photography up there and had an absolutely wonderful time.

The Lake District is just incredibly beautiful.

This was a 700m climb before sunrise, but well worth the effort.

I have 4 shots of the mist/cloud in completely different light and each has their own feel. I think I'll keep the rest to myself though because I dont want to have to many shots of hills and clouds in my gallery.

This was taken from the top of Glyder Fach in Snowdonia Wales, UK

Its also a panoramic with my 400mm prime. Since I lugged the lens up a mountain I thought I might as well use it!

People with a fear of heights (Acrophobia apparently) should stay well away from the Letterewe Wilderness and particularly the view from Sgurr na Laocainn. The best viewpoint from the summit came with a spinning sense of vertigo. On a number of occasions I caught myself feeling dizzy and rapidly retreated from the edge. The views came with excitement, wonder and a healthy dose of caution, fortunately it wasn’t that windy!
The view down to Carnmore, a small house at the bottom of Carn Mor from Sgurr na Laocainn is essentially an aerial one. Watching the occasional person walk the path below gives a real sense of scale. From the viewpoint you have a panoramic view to A' Mhaighdean over Dubh Loch and Fionn Loch and out to see. The scene here is a 180 degree panorama! Around sunset the light escaped beneath the cloud to give a glancing red light to the landscape below. Dramatic rainclouds hung overhead and I sat there watching the showers pass, fortunately none hit me.

A few minutes after the storm, some rays of light formed a rainbow near the cliffs of Mount Aiguille, in Vercors Natural Park. The green plants in the foreground and the yellow/red light illuminating the clouds gave a really particular athmosphere to the scene.

An image from my last trip to Isle of Skye in september 2009... Dark stormy clouds over the Cuillins hills from the coast of Elgol. Between magical light and showers, it does remind me the strength of scottish landscapes.

A place ive been to many times but never with any success...

Staple Tor is incredibly accessible and one of the most photogenic tors geologically so getting it to yourself can be difficult...

Pretty much everything fitted into place for this shot, there had been thick cloud all day that seemed to break readily in the high wind so the chance of some good cloud at sunset and a gap in the clouds was promising. I headed to the western side of the moor watching the weather as i drove. After looking at a few different locations i decided that the rocks at Staple tor would frame the setting sun best..
The contrast of the light was difficult to balance i used a .9 soft grad and also bracketed shots to blend later.

Some low raking light during cloudy, boisterous April weather produces some nice contrast on a much photographed view.

This is shot from the highest point on Exmoor National Park looking out towards the bay at porlock and on out across the Bristol channel to the welsh coastline.

Blessed with that gap in the cloud at sunset that draws this wonderful contrast and life to the landscape.
this is shot looking down the valley from corn du the town of Brecon is just out of frame to the right.
I was woken at four by the sound of bass emanating from this valley...the welsh like their free parties!
i love the constable-esque (if that makes sense) feel to this shot, i've always thought that this is the type of light that constable had in mind when he painted many of his landscapes.

The lighthouse sits enthroned at the top of the 70-meter high cliffs of Cap Frehel in north-west France. Especially the violet-blue light at dusk brings out the red color of the sandstone cliffs.

An Teallach, UK
Winter 2012

With the aim of shooting some Scottish Landscapes in dynamic weather I started my trip to Great Britain in mid-November and traveled for about 5 weeks trough the country. My journey took me from the south coast of England via Northumberland to Scotland. In Scotland I traveled from the Isle of Skye to Caithness, Torridon and Assynt. As expected the weather conditions were very contrary (snow, sun, storm, rain). The exposed position at the Atlantic Ocean is responsible for the unpredictable weather in western Scotland. Often it’s possible to experience several seasons within one day. Although it often wasn’t very easy to keep my camera dry, I was rewarded with a variety of spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

In early December winter comes to northern Scotland. Ice covered the countless lakes and the frequently showers turn into snowfall. In the last part of my UK series I show the shots from Wester Ross. The photos were taken during several hikes in the spectacular mountainous regions An Teallach and Torridon. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!
