My entry for the Rift Colossus Contest. I call it "Auctus Titanum." I had a lot of fun creating this, it was great to run wild with the concept. I had also imagined it shedding seedlings as it moved along leaving a path of untamed plantlife in it's wake. But there is already a lot going on in the image, I didn't want to clog up the composition. Critiques and comments welcome. Enjoy
Created by the old gods of a forgotten era, the Magister acts as a conduit between the world of the living and the world of the deceased.
All-powerful and omnipotent, the Magister functions by siphoning energy from the souls that he judges and extracts from the realms of Telara. From the time of the Blood Storm War, the Magister has been particularly active with the ferrying and extraction of untold numbers of souls, some innocent, but the majority being those of the guilty.
Recognizing the universe in its entirety as one of suffering and pain, the Magister has taken the task of cleansing the worlds of Telara into his own hands. The more he judges, the stronger he will become. The Magister has replaced the cycle of suffering with his own brand of death and mayhem, hoping to usher in a world where he need not judge the souls of the wicked any longer.
This was for a promo reprint of "Primordial Hydra". Since its a promo, I'm pretty sure the only way to get the card with this image is to purchase Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 on xbox. Otherwise it will have the artwork by Aleksi Briclot (which is awesome).
Some people have said that the eyeless falcor look is off putting, so I just want to say up front that this was intentional. Who hasn't watched the Never Ending Story and wished that Falcor was several stories tall, had hundreds of heads, navigated by sound/smell alone and compelled chiefly by an insatiable blood lust?

My entry for the Rift Colossus competition. This beast is encrusted with rare gems that prompt the players to defeat it for a hefty reward. It also has the ability to conjure up massive sandstorms that create total darkness around it's victims.
This is my 2nd try after The Hunter at blending my curvilinear lines with the rendering of my usual work. I chose to make the rendering a bit more modest and laid back. I'm very happy with the turn out with this one. Next semester I'm planning to do a series of fairytale themed pieces and this style so I should get plenty of practice with it then.
This is not based on any particular story but more just a representation of the menacing danger that dragons often pose in fairytales. After all if there's not a problem to be solved whats the point of a hero?
A lot of music went into this, ha. Particularly this song - [link]
Er. Right, have some context - The creature is an ancient omnipotent being called a Patriot, no one knows much about them- except that they have incredible power and are very seldom seen. There are 3 patriots in particular (of 8) that can cure any disease and heal any wound. 2 of those patriots are downright hostile, and the 3rd (this guy) is a tossup. It might decide to help you, or it might decide to make you explode depending on what day of the week it is. People who are desperate enough plagued with illness sometimes attempt to seek him out. Most fail, and the ones who do manage to find him (or should I say be found) are usually never seen again.. but there have been some unconfirmed legends of a very lucky few who lived.
These guys look kinda weird I guess. This design is a revamp, if you want a laugh you can check the original and very ooooold version of him here: [link] ..i don't know why he is eating babies, haaaa
