In this tutorial I take a look at importing custom nature brushes into Gimp and Photoshop. Then I give a quick demo using these brushes to create a simple nature landscape.

The Full Sliced Fruit Exercise Results HERE.

Artist: Tim Von Rueden (vonn)

This was certainly a juicy exercise filled with a lot of finer detailing and a closer look at how isolated highlights can really add an effect to the final product.

I used the skin and pore brush from the CGCookie Basic Brush Pack to produce the sliced fruit results. For the step by step after I create an outline of each fruit, and begin to lay down a foundation of solid colors. This helps create a value to work on top of and gives a color grounding.

  1. Outline – Begin with the overall look and shape to each sliced fruit, remembering to take your time defining the important shapes such as seeds or a separation in pulp.
  2. Solid Base - Choose a solid base color from a reference and work more neutral or even closer to a darker value to build upon.
  3. Secondary Base Colors - I wanted to showcase a secondary base color to work from since there is such a distinction in color for this subject matter.
  4. Build up Forms and Values - With a lighting direction in place, start to build up the values and this is what will begin the transition from not looking so flat but rather having some depth.
  5. Remove Outline and Refine – Once you have gotten enough form to work with, you can remove the outline layer and begin to define the detail work and clean up the areas that were previously covered from the lineart.
  6. Polish with Strong Highlights - This is the most important stage. This is when the fruit adds a sense of realism and more importantly a sense of it looking “juicy” Keep the highlights consistent with the light direction and have fun watching your fruits come alive!

The Cecelia Course is now up and ready to view. Check out the Course with a free introduction to give you an idea of what this is about: cgcookie.com/concept/cgc-cours…

1. Sketching and Gesturing using Simplified Shapes
2. Classic Coloring
3. Base Colors
4. Facial Features
5. Hair
6. The outfit and final Detailing

In this Citizen course Tim Von Rueden takes you through the process and mindset of creating an animated character through a focus on shapes and simplification. The focus will be on first gesturing the sketch and proportion and then using simple circle soft-edged brushes to lay out the colors to then refine.

More recipes in my folder: Quick Food, Not Fast Food. Info on the book: Quick Food, Not Fast Food: the book! by Majnouna

THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE. Read the recipe and description in full and try to use your brain (+ google, wikipedia etc) before asking something dickish or lazy, or you'll be ignored.

MY GOD THIS IS TASTY! This is modified from this recipe by Abel & Cole, the wonderful organic delivery service I'm now addicted to. Seasonal, pesticide-free, bee-saving fruit and veg on my doorstep every Wednesday? Hell yeah!!
Anyway, this really titillated my tastebuds with tangy notes popping up in each bite. I used half a fresh chilli instead of powder, and sage and oregano as I had those on hand. If I had made enough for 4 I would still have gobbled it all up...

:pointl: Check out the book!

I found this to be a brilliant recipe when I have people coming over and have very little time to bake. It's seasonal, we only get apricots in summer, but seasonal = in harmony with nature = good.

As I said in the previous post fav.me/d5c1dvl , healthy food doesn't have to be boring food. I firmly believe anyone can enjoy a decadent dessert a week without adverse effect – provided you use the most wholesome possible ingredients and you know there's no unidentified crap thrown in. Take butter for instance. Just use good fresh butter from a responsible farm and have the common sense to not put it in your food every day; it really beats fooling oneself with so-called substitutes (look at the ingredient list and tell me you want that in your mouth, plus it makes one feel it's "safer" to eat more, which is the real cause of problems), and it tastes a LOT better. I do use olive oil rather than butter in recipes where it makes sense, but for desserts? Nevah!

Anyway, I'm starting to ramble, but my point is: use real, honest ingredients without fear, and be moderate in your consumption. A good trick is never to bake if you don't have people coming over or people to visit, to make sure most of it gets eaten. Otherwise you might feel force to finish it yourself ^^

In any case this is by no means very decadent a dessert, and it's incredibly delicious.

Set four in a series titled "Man and", as they will feature me (a man) doing mundane everyday things, such as cooking and cleaning.

Wasn't sure I'd get a 'Man and' set in this year, but this'll do...I guess.

Sorry for any blur. While some is due to movement...for obvious reasons, the majority stems from not checking my focal setting.

HIT THE DOWNLOAD FILE BUTTON TO..WELL, DOWNLOAD. Don't know why I have to explain that, but hey, it's the internet.

Also, please FAV and SHARE if possible. I get asked nearly every day, so I want this to get around. Thanks dudes <3

Hey guys. So a lot of people have been like "Omg Loovisi what brushes do you use?"

These ones. Enjoy.

(PS: I did not create all of these, only some of them. Inside are brushes from Reid Southen, Jaimie Jones, Kekai Kotaki and more. Most of which you can find online. Thanks dudes, love you.)

(PPS: Having specific brushes doesn't mean you'll paint better. It's how you use them. I only really use one or two brushes, and they're in the chalk-set in the beginning. Hope that helps)

(PPPS: I'm not sorry for the image I used of my Ernie painting. May he rot your dreams.)
