As we traverse the final phases of maximum raw information accumulation, potentially equipping us for jacking in to the promise of the Singularity, the contents of many lifetimes’ worth of knowledge, art, education, and history are now at our fingertips. More and more Universities, libraries and arts institutions have swung open their digital doors and granted access to their lectures, courses and curricula free of charge to anyone in the world with a connection to the web. Access to education is fundamentally shifting our society towards an unmappable

Cthulhu is Still Calling
Written By techgnotic

The Enemy at the Gates, the “Other”, forever lurking in the darkness and plotting an invasion most evil and an enslavement most hideous, is probably the original seminal “narrative” that was born when humans first acq

Litestep on Windows 7UPDATE(9/11/2011): lsdev.org is currently down which is a major bummer because it is a huge resource for the litestep community. from what i've read some kind folks are trying to find a new home for lsdev but i'm not really in contact with anyone so i don't know anything for certain, just what i read online. if you happen to be a new litestep user you picked a somewhat bad time to get into it =/Litestep on Windows 7 in Personal More Like This
UPDATE: this tutorial has gotten a lot of attention since i posted it 2 years ago.. so i decided to update the information, add information and even a nice video tutorial by andredk which is a little long, but very detailed. i updated the old journal and submitted a new one for good measure
installing litestep is not a big deal. it has dependencies like any other application, and without them it will error. assuming your system meets all the requirements right now you can stop reading this and install liteste
Finding SilenceIt goes something like this:Finding Silence in Personal More Like This
We arrive on set. Bags are dropped to the floor and hands are shaken. We fill the silence with the sound of introductions, common courtesy, and the mutual excitement we share for a good shoot.
They go to prepare, checking their cameras and adjusting their settings. I run my hand through my hair and glance into a mirror at my reflection. How is my face? Is my makeup satisfactory? I resist the urge to reach for my foundation and force a few deep breaths. Inhale, exhale, inhale... -
They are looking at me. How long did I make them wait, I wonder, as I look desperately to the clock. Call time, it reads. I haven't lost them even a minute past our agreed upon start time, but I wring my hands just the same.
The shoot begins, and I am always deeply grateful when it does. We are past the pleasantries. There is no longer a wait for my mind to spin incessantly during. As I move, I settle into my place of absolute silence. A place where all thought stops and the consci
The magic of Alessio AlbiSome months ago I had the pleasure to work with Alessio Albi, one of the most interesting fine art photographers in Italy. He is a young guy, with a different job, but photography is his big passion and I'd say this is one of the best hobby realizations that I've seen so farThe magic of Alessio Albi in Personal More Like This

Where is we at?So, the Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers) made it to the promised page 50. Thanks to everyone who faved and commented and generally made me feel awesome about what I was doing.Where is we at? in Personal More Like This
During the production of these "first 50"(as I like to call them) I received a number of offers from folks who would like to publish it for you all, and I'm hopeful that one of these offers is going to work out. If it doesn't work out, I'll start looking down different avenues so that folks can eventually get their hands on the dead tree edition that so many have asked for.
In the meantime I've been revising many of the pages, with a particular attention being given to the early stuff where both art and anapestic tetrameter are being given a facelift. Another thing that I'm doing with the revisions is changing all of the single pages into double page spreads so that the whole thing can breathe and get closer in line with the way the great Theodor Geisel might have done it.&
