There has always been this obsession with the others we share this planet with.
We communicate with them on certain basic levels and yet they inhabit a plane so different from ours: savage, instinctive, a life of sheer survival. At the same time they can do things beyond human abilities: fly through the skies, swim the oceans, apply t

DRAGON CASTLE by randis
According to the Chinese zodiac, 2012 has ushered in the year of the dragon upon the world stage.
In addition to occupying an ages old position in our cultural consciousness, legend and folklore surrounding
the dragon mythology has long been firing the kiln of our dreams with fright and menace. When we are speaking of

A Pop Culture Interpretation of The Supernatural
Every culture around the world created gods and other mythical beings by mixing and matching fanged and taloned animal parts—e.g., enormous eagle heads on lions’ bodies—human beings have always seemed to need to believe there are powerful and usually quite vengeful supernatural beings lurking just beyond the candlelight.
Supernatural beings come to serve several purposes:
They kept people on the lighted path of truth and goodness, fearful of exploring beyond;
They were a reminder of the punishment we deser

Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.
His first “day-job” in 1996—he was hired straight out of his senior year of high school—was drawing Tarzan for Disney.
Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recent

Fan Art Law
Mon Sep 10, 2012 by techgnotic
t seems there’s nothing quite as dear to the hearts of many of our deviants as their production of fan art, and at the same time, there is nothing so knotted with legal and ethical headaches. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but in the form of fan art it has also become one of the most frustratingly complicated. At some point, the sheer volume of fan art around a single property may become so large that the issue rises to another level of scrutiny by the creators of the original work.
With this dynamic in mind, we thought the following panel that Josh Wattles, our Advisor In Chief here at deviantART, and a mystery guest named Harold Smith, gave at Comic Con this year might be of immense help in understanding the ever evolving elements of fan art
5 Comic Book Truths (that I don't think are true)There are lots of tips, chestnuts, and other pieces of advice that I've heard over the years--tidbits of wisdom passed on from one generation to the next, from professional to professor to prospective student. Some of them are drawing tips, some of them are tricks to dealing with publishers, and some are general guidelines on how to survive in comics. Most of them are useful and true and will stand the test of time, but a few of them have become hackneyed platitudes and have gone unquestioned for too long. Here are 5 that I'm questioning...5 Comic Book Truths (that I don't think are true) in Personal More Like This
1. READERS WILL ONLY LOOK AT A PANEL FOR 5 SECONDS, SO DON'T SWEAT IT TOO MUCH.
I understand the intention of this bit of wisdom, and I mostly agree with it: drawing great interiors is important, but at the same time, you don't want to get bogged down with small details that most readers won't even notice.
But here's my concern with this: if you treat every panel like it's disposable, then you're less likely to make an impact with reader
No More Unauthorized ArtworkRegarding the debate of whether comic artists should continue selling unauthorized prints/sketches of characters they don't own, I think Bissette and his legal advisor are 100% correct. So from now on, I won't be doing any sketches or commissions at shows of any character that I don't own. Am I rolling over in fear of Marvel? Maybe, but as it states below, they're in their legal right to come after me if there's ever a dispute. I love to complain about the Big Two, but I can't (in good conscience) get upset at them if I'm breaking the rules myself. Being DC exclusive, maybe I can get a waiver that allows me to sketch DC characters, so I'll keep you updated. No More Unauthorized Artwork in Personal More Like This

Top 5 Mistakes (I've made over the years)To many people in comics, I only arrived a few years ago with Joe the Barbarian. Then came Hellblazer (completed in 2008 before I began working on Joe), American Vampire: SOTF, and finally Punk Rock Jesus. Once in a while someone will mention Off Road (an OGN I did with Oni back in 2004), but for the most part it seems like I've been published only these last few years when in fact I've been published professionally for a decade now.Top 5 Mistakes (I've made over the years) in Personal More Like This
This isn't a plea to have everyone go back through my previous work--in fact, I'm glad that a lot of the books I've done over the years aren't on readers' radars. I'm proud of it all, but the books above are a nice, tight group of titles to be associated with. They're all in a similar brand, they're all recent, they all have good creators/publishers associated with them, and the artwork is mostly consistent. Go back further than that, and you'll see artwork that looks nothing like the stuff I'm doing these days. (Although Off Road still holds up to some de

if they stopped and quit trying
how do you expect to get better? huh?
Just because a person or a lot of people is better than you, that doesn't mean you will quit, I mean, they're not telling you to quit, and some of them will even try to help you get better!
If you feel demotivated because of jealousy of the skills of other people, don't just curl up in a ball forever, yea you can cry for a moment but you must stand and show them what you got
"I'LL SHOW THIS SHITLORD THAT I CAN DO BETTER!" -internally
Take it as a challenge.
Don't you want to be happy? Do you like telling people that you are hopeless and then you will feel sad and the people you talked to will feel sad too?
"You are inspiring and it makes me want to do better!"
Doesn't that sound better? It doesn't just make the person you're telling to, feel better, but it specially makes you feel better as well!

Well; that was rather good, wasn't it?
Splendid art, voice acting and a compelling narrative on par with any live-action, prime-time series.
The resolution at the end, though, felt a little rushed. While I'm glad there was one, it had an air of finality about it, as though it's uncertain a second season will ever transpire.
If there isn't one; it'll be a crime, given all the work that went into crafting Korra's world.
Titillation vs. SexismBoobs.Titillation vs. Sexism in Personal More Like This
Guys are fascinated by them.
Through single-digit ages, they find the very concept of them hilarious, and when puberty kicks in the mere thought of lady-lumps generally causes some movement in the trouser department. These weak-willed creatures will follow them anywhere and they will do almost anything if it means simply being permitted to gaze upon them for a few moments more.
The entertainment industries, from the big movie makers to the lowly art whores (like me) know this, and have played upon it for years in order to separate males from their money. As a result, mass media is awash with the female form in all manner of provocative poses and dress.
Many women are fed up with this, but is the whole thing “sexist”?
Well, it’s impossible and indeed wrong to say a whole industry is one thing or another. Ultimately it’s all one, big, dumb organism that simply moves with the cultural winds. It perpetuates what sustains it. It’s only when you break it

We were promised Titanic II, a beautiful replica of the fated RMS Titanic that went down in 1912. We were promised this by Australian billionaire, Clive Palmer. Thousands..no, millions of people around the world heard of his lavish plans to rebuild this Edwardian icon, and many hearts were thrilled by it. I will admit I was one of them. This grand new dame was to be a representative to her Edwardian namesake, and to sail the Trans-Atlantic route like all of the older vessels before her. She was stated again to have sailed by 2016. We are now in 2015. No plans have been made, of even her keel being laid, so there is a guarantee her 2016 voyeur w
Remembering a Titanic Hero In 1965, Titanic's lookout, Frederick Fleet, committed suicide by hanging himself in his garden. He was reported to have suffered horrible depression, for it wasn't long after Christmas that his wife died, and his wife's brother evicted Frederick from their home.Remembering a Titanic Hero in Personal More Like This
He was buried unceremoniously in a unmarked grave in Southampton. The grave went without any marking until 1993 when the Titanic Historical Society raised the funding to place a proper headstone at the spot.
Frederick Fleet could not save the Titanic. No one could that fated night, but he played an integral part is history, and deserves to be remembered.
Please honor him with a moment of silence if at all possible.
Hype Level=9001 *UPDATED*WARNING: SPOILERS FOR GODZILLA PS3 AND MUCH TL;DR.Hype Level=9001 *UPDATED* in Personal More Like This
So I just got through playing the demo for the new Godzilla game for the PS3 that dropped today.
I love it I love it I LOOOOOVE it. :iconiloveyouplz:
The control scheme is a bit awkward. You turn Godzilla with the L1/R1 buttons and if you press left or right on the control stick he just shimmies. The camera is free range, and you can actually get some pretty decent angles because the control scheme is always the same no matter what camera angle you're in. Godzilla always moves forward when you press up on the control stick.
The destruction is awesome and blood pumping and the combat controls are simple and easy to pull off.
Pres the Square Button for standard melee attacks, holding no particular direction has him do a punch, punching three times is a one two punch combo followed by a tail whip. Holding forward and Square at the same time does a 360 tail smash. Holding back and Square at the same time has Goji smash w

I've been gone for a really really long time not doing jack sh*t THIS time because I was in a relationship, a long one, and apparently a bad one.
She left me, and for those who aren't in my facebook circle, she made me homeless for 3 days, too.
Had to sleep in a bush.
My ma, bless her heart, took me in and I'm getting my life back together again now that I'm not so love blind anymore. I really need to learn how to take break-ups better, but then again none of my past ex's ever kicked me out and left me on the streets without even a single day to get something together.
Eh, it's in the past.
As for writing, I may actually have newfound creativity surging through me due to my experiences, and G2014 of course.
Like, oh my god Gamera.
If this break-up has done anything to me, it's given me an unhealthy obsession with this damn turtle.
ESPECIALLY Showa Gamera.
Showa Gamera is love, Showa Gamera is life.
Because I Can Do This According To PeopleSo let's say your car breaks down,Because I Can Do This According To People in Personal More Like This
And you need a new one.
So you go to a car lot, and the owner of the car says he'll need $2000 for the used car.
Instead of cash or check funds,
You offer the man 400000 microsoft points.
This man stares you down like you're some sort of joke.
You explain to him you don't have cash or check of that high of money, and then you beg him to take your offer.
Now you just look like a joke.
Great job with that one.
Two hours later you get on facebook and promptly complain about how terrible it was that the car salesman
wouldn't agree to your payment, and how unfair and terrible they are.
Next thing you know near all car lots know what you look like, and people on facebook think you're retarded.
Also, great job on that one.
Think about this,
If you're trying to pay bills.
WTF are 400000 microsoft points going to do to help you?
If the car lot -obviously- has a TOS, you will -obviously- look completely retarded trying to buy a car with points.

A few days back, Autodesk released Sketchbook Pro 6, and I think this is the version that's going to make a lot of people who have YET to experience Sketchbook Pro in full, or haven't really given the past versions a chance, switch over to making it their digital drawing software of choice; heck, even their PAINTING software of choice.
We still have the cleverly-designed user interface, that makes it easy on the eyes and mind when we're brainstorming and sketching. With the handful of new tools introduced, we still have a clutter-free drawing environment, and man, there's some awesome tools this time around. I'll go down the list:
The Brush Library
The main brush toolbar itself has a click-and-drag function, allowing you to store all your often-used brushes in each of the "lanes". You then can click the button on the upper-right and then a fu
