Derek pressed his eyes open. His foggy brain tried to pull together the last poem he'd heard the teacher reciting. He tried to form some plausible excuse to explain his sleeping in the middle of class. The real one of stay up late watching DVDs wasn't likely to work.
"The connotation of the voices is self-consciousness!" He blurted it out as the world around him began to catch up with his brain.
He expected a general laugh and terse words from the instructor. Instead, all was silence. And he didn't see the room around him. He saw a field of silver, glassy grass standing almost on edge. Light twinkled through it like a thousand micro-rainbows shifting with every exhale of the breeze.
He gasped at the sight. Beyond the grass were trees that looked like tall snow crystals. Above, the sky was the only normal sight in color and form.
After turning around a few times, Derek took a careful step through the strange grass. Despite the fact the grass looked

Where The Truth Is Revealed
I shook my head and told myself that any giant bugs I remembered from dreams were probably just false memories. I sipped my soda and moved closer to the front of the café where things weren't quite so lonely.
Still, I felt an unnerving sensation that something was there just over my shoulder, though I didn't see anything. I plopped my head on table. I'd read about the psychology computers in the library and they only gave users a few minutes of the symptoms of an abnormal condition and only when you were there. I knew from the last class with safety protocol not to mix more than three conditions without standing up and looking away from the magical field around the computer.
But I couldn't really remember much about what I'd done with the computer. I really hoped that wasn't a sign of amnesia. If Professor Kellemann was still around, then I knew I could stop by and ask about this. If nothing else, there

It was a huge hypothetical to consider. What if we made it back home and wed been missing for all those months? At the very least, our rent wouldve gone unpaid. Surely our families would have given us up for dead. I could just imagine it now. Trio of young men last seen going for a walk.
Katsumi leaned over to whisper in Sumis ear. Sumi stood like a marble statue, then curled at Katsumi like a tiger, struck, You wouldnt dare!
Ill do whatever I must. Its your choice as to which. She looked rather solemn. Did having us here really bother her that much? I had to put the question to her.
Jamie edged back as Katsumi targeted me with her eyes in response. Her sour look could kill a flower.
Katsumi folded her arms and said, Imagine youre trapped in an old building. All the openings are barred. Theres no way out of this place. Then you hear echoing gigg

After shaking off my confusion, I paused at the last step on my way back to the first floor. That delicious chestnut aroma enveloped me. I really was getting hungry. I planned to have something microwaveable after I finished my coding, but the udon which Ms. Ishida was warming up sounded a lot better. Of course, it was probably gonna be microwaved as well.
I peeked at the room I thought of as the living room. Katsumi had finished her job on Nathan’s hair and was blowing curling, white steam off her curry rice. Her mouth made a perfect, pink circle. Nathan was bright red with a sextet of bows in his hair in too-short but still cute braids. They looked utterly ridiculous. I gave Nathan a sympathetic smile.
Katsumi glared over at me. “Ms. Ishida says your food is ready. If you stay any longer after eating then all three of you will face my full fury. You’ll wish you merely faced death.” Katsumi

After grabbing my toothbrush, I opened the door and peered out at Jen standing in front of the door with her hands pressed to her hips. She pointed her chin at me and said only, "Finally "
She stalked by with an arm full things mostly taken from me and slammed the door closed behind her. Since dropping out, she hadn't been as active. I sure wouldn't say anything about it in her presence but my sister had gone flabby. Not to the point where I might make jokes about Sea World calling for her but still I could see why my mom was worried. (I even listened one night as mom tore through her fears of Jen as a single mom, bloated and dependant).
I brushed and groomed in the basement sink.
When I was nearly done with prep, I slipped down my robe to check my chest. Things looked about the same, which wasn't good but I didn't expect the irritation to go away so quickly. I tried a little Vasoline on it to help.
Back in my room, I went through my mental list. I
