A chilly wind swept across the stone hollow, picking up a stray leaf off the frost-encrusted ground. It drifted down into the clearing, landing right on top of Jayfeather's head. He shook it off irritably and continued walking briskly toward the nursery, kicking up dust as he went.
Two moons had passed since the end of greenleaf, and Poppyfrost was giving birth to her second litter. Jayfeather had never felt so nervous about a kitting, or so determined to make it successful. Once outside the nursery, Jayfeather took a deep breath of crisp, leaf-fall air before stepping inside.
"Poppyfrost?" he called. "Is everything all right?"
"Jayfeather!" she panted. "You're here! Everything's fine."
Jayfeather could smell Berrynose behind her. Nervousness pulsed from his fur, though not as strong as the first time the queen had kitted. "Is she okay?" he demanded at Jayfeather. "What's going to happen?"

Whitewing yawned, lying outside the warriors' den. The apprentices were playing outside their den all except for Dovepaw, of course. She had gone hunting with Lionblaze.
The young she-cat was turning into one of the best hunters in the clan, surprisingly. She ALWAYS seemed to know where the prey was, and how to catch it. Even the warriors had to admire her skills! Whitewing was very proud of her daughter, but she couldn't help wondering exactly WHY Dovepaw was such a great hunter. It was as if she had never missed a catch!
"Blossompaw! Blossompaw! Blossompaw! Blossompaw!" Blossompaw was wrestling Bumblepaw, and she seemed to be losing. At the last heartbeat, she flipped him over with expert speed and pinned him. The young she-cat's denmates cheered wildly.
"Hey, watch this!" Ivypaw threw herself into the fight, nudging Blossompaw aside. She slid under Bumblepaw's belly, hooking her claws around his waist and pulling him down. Before he could move, she pinned him down by the side a
The Bad DreamThe forest was filled with the sounds of greenleaf, with squirrels chattering high in the trees and birds chirping high in the deep blue sky. It was a gorgeous day for hunting. The Bad Dream in Short Stories More Like This
"So where to first?" her brother asked, looking around.
"Good question." Icecloud narrowed her eyes. "It doesn't really matter to me. There should be plenty of prey out today."
The two siblings took a leisurely stroll through the shady forest. It wasn't long until Icecloud scented a squirrel, and began to stalk it. She almost had it when Foxleap jabbed his paw into her side, causing her to jump. The sound of her paws hitting the ground sent the squirrel sprinting up the nearest tree.
"What was that for?" she snapped. "I almost had that juicy thing!"
"Icepaw, get up!" he said. "It's time to go."
"But we haven't caught an
