Cubling Newstar. When I was a kid, I loved Newstar. I wanted to BE Newstar. (And a mermaid, for that matter. And a cat. Which probably makes me quite weird).

I know her skin tones and hair are way to colourful for a night scene, but oh well..I went for cartoon-ism more than for realism ;)

I got a request to draw Bearclaw and Joyleaf. Yay! Dunno why, but they've always been one of my favourite couples, even though Bearclaw kinda creeps me out....
so I decided to focus on his tender side here.

This is for the art challenge "Unforgotten Past" over at EQFA. [link]

This is the oldest elfquest drawing that I was able to find in my folders. I'm not sure what her expression was supposed to be, but she looks rather horrified by the flower in the original. Or stoned...? Or maybe someone has just sent something tragic to her.

And what the heck was with the butt-cloth?

In any case, the revamp sorta went beyond the bounds of the original, but sometimes a picture just has a mind of it's own, so I didn't try to restrain it once it wandered off the path.

Oh, and I know I left out the birds.

Eep, I drew Crescent's head sorta big in this one. Or her parents' heads small.

And the last of my pin-ups from the massive EQ Fan Art pin-up event! The only one in which I did not use ridiculous amounts of orange/red, so it should fare the best in the printed version.

Well, the official ElfQuest calendar [link] is up so I can share this piece that I submitted for it. The theme this year was the magic of ElfQuest so, of course, I went with Leetah, the most amazing healer the elves have ever known. In this scene, she's healing her son. It takes place directly after the scene in "Full Circle" where Sunstream destroys the dark magic. Cutter carries him off and Leetah follows. I always thought she went with him to their den to heal him completely as she hadn't done so when he was injured on an earlier hunt. The pain needed to teach him and now that he learned all he could from it, there was no more need to suffer.

There was a calendar contest over on the EQFanart site and this was my submission. It's Joyleaf, mother of Cutter (one of two of my favorite characters in the entire series). The task was to draw one of the characters in the classic Pini pinup style from the calendar that was released a few years ago. ...so...here's my contribution :aww: I hope you like it :D

I was never satisfied with the first drawing that I did for Ayla. Her eyes were wrong and...she just wasn't quite Ayla. So, when I was at work on my break, I did a quick drawing of her and this is how it came out...much truer to how I envision her :aww:

I am remiss in getting these remaining calendar pieces posted!

This year, EQFA did a really ambitious project for the ElfQuest Fan Art calendar -- for one thing, they were all WEEKLY calendars, and the theme for this 10th anniversary was pin-up pictures based on the idea of the ones that Wendy Pini did for a calendar back in 1998, I think. The response was so big that there was not only enough art for 53 weeks of 2012... but similar calendars for 2013 and 2014 as well. I wound up doing 1 piece for 2012, and two pieces each for 2013 and 2014.

A look at the other ElfQuest canon art I've done will make it clear that I am a big fan of Bearclaw. :) So he was the first character I requested to do for this calendar project. Originally, we were supposed to avoid doing the characters that Wendy Pini had done in her own pin-up calendar, but we could do other variations on them, and that was fine with me, because her Bearclaw pin-up was not one that I wanted to compete with!

In the comics, there is reference to a story about how it was Bearclaw when he was younger, staking out dreamberry bushes, who "rediscovered" the existence of trolls and made first contact with them, resulting in a mutually-beneficial trading relationship between the wolfriders and the local trolls. Canon depictions of this event are actually a bit inconsistent -- did it take place before Bearclaw became chief, or just after? Did he have any facefur yet, or not? There weren't even very good shots of what his costume looked like at the time. So I had some leeway to make choices in my depiction. I decided to go with the older version of the story, seen in the OQ, which made him chief when it happened, but I gave him facefur that was just starting to come in. I wanted to try to draw him so that he would look a bit both like his son, Cutter, and his father, Mantricker (whose piece for the calendar is elsewhere in my gallery, here: [link]).

This is probably my favorite piece that I did for this calendar project. It's the one where all three of the figures came out the way I wanted them to.

Woodlock was another choice who really wasn't my "choice", per se, but rather was one of the characters who had not yet been represented in the calendar, and it seemed like he ought to be. He's not a "major" character in most people's minds, I think, but he's one of the Original Quest wolfriders, and he is often overlooked. So I regarded doing him as an interesting challenge. I really enjoyed trying to bring out the "sexy" side to him, to represent that he is most often thought of in relation to his very successful Recognition with Rainsong. In elf terms, they had a lot of kids very close together, but they are more often depicted as parents rathe than lovers, which seems a shame. I chose to do him in his Original Quest costume, rather than the clothes he later started wearing once he had settled in the Sun Village, in order to emphasize his wolfrider roots.

One-Eye has definitely always been a favorite character of mine. I love those original wolfriders, and I always thought he had a very sexy, mature look to him. I am always constantly sad when he dies during the course of the OQ's story. His death and its aftermath (which goes on for a long time) is wonderfully poignant, but I never like losing characters I'm interested in.

Tilaweed Card 1993.Szekeres

This illustration of Tilaweed was created as a thank you card that accompanied an original art gift of Tilaweed for Cat Kouns Born: A significant staff member (and constant friend) at Warp Graphics while WaveDancers was in production. (Thank you Cat, for the high rez digital files of this artwork for my archive gallery). It's rare that I do artwork specifically as gifts.

I used the line art that I did for a proposed 1st issue cover for WaveDancers. I cut the page to the size of a card, and masking taped it to my painting table. When removing the masking tape, it left the linework underneath it untouched by the paint.

WaveDancers was published during 1993 - 1994, so this is from that same time, but has never seen print publication. It's interesting to me how elongated the design of Tilaweed became. She was the poster girl of the series.

I've updated the look of Tilaweed for the new Elf-fin series Julie Ditrich and I are currently working on. Still long and lithe, but a touch more toned.

The updated Tilaweed for comparison is here: [link]

I found this old color test painting I did of Tilaweed originally done in 1993, well before the first issue of ElfQuest/WaveDancers was done. It has never seen print, nor the light of day since it was completed in 1993. I decided to update it, revising it for 2010.

РыжеДрот: он не самый мой любимый персонаж, но не смотря на это, я всё-таки оторвалась на нём. Мне там написали, что он как ниндзя... Во-во, самый что ненаесть))))

И опять же, спасибо :iconekago: за цвет!!!

Lookie here! I edited it!
I'm still waiting to hear back wether it'll make it into the calendar but now at least it's a piece that fits the time it was assigned (in my opinion). I'm happy I got the chance to edit it :)

Sorry to everyone who fav'd the previous one!
I'm not sure wether I'll keep it around, I might scrap that one.
