Cubling Newstar. When I was a kid, I loved Newstar. I wanted to BE Newstar. (And a mermaid, for that matter. And a cat. Which probably makes me quite weird).

I know her skin tones and hair are way to colourful for a night scene, but oh well..I went for cartoon-ism more than for realism ;)

I got a request to draw Bearclaw and Joyleaf. Yay! Dunno why, but they've always been one of my favourite couples, even though Bearclaw kinda creeps me out....
so I decided to focus on his tender side here.

IRL I've undergone a bit of a gradual makeover the past year. Shorter/wilder hair and a discovery of properly-fitting jeans, among other things. Sooooo...I figured my elfquest-self Yereh needed a re-do. Elves live a long time, darnit, so they are allowed to change up their hair and clothes!

I kept the mothsilk blouse, though, because that shirt is just awesome.

Wasn't intending for it to be a pinup, but...once I had a front shot and profile worked out, kael pointed out I just needed a pinup to make this a "pretend" entry for the 2012 EQ Fan Art Calendar. Why the heck not...the pinups are fun. ^_^

(And again, no, I don't have skin that dark IRL. It's my concession to trying to fit her in the elfquest culture that is the best mirror of my life and personality.)

This is my entry for the 2009 ElfQuest Fan Art Calendar ([link]). The theme was "Magic of ElfQuest", so I decided to make the focus of the image not a specific elf, but the peculiar glowy mosaic that Savah has behind her "throne". Why does it glow in her presence? No other elf has evidenced ability to make things glow without fire.

This is for the art challenge "Unforgotten Past" over at EQFA. [link]

This is the oldest elfquest drawing that I was able to find in my folders. I'm not sure what her expression was supposed to be, but she looks rather horrified by the flower in the original. Or stoned...? Or maybe someone has just sent something tragic to her.

And what the heck was with the butt-cloth?

In any case, the revamp sorta went beyond the bounds of the original, but sometimes a picture just has a mind of it's own, so I didn't try to restrain it once it wandered off the path.

Oh, and I know I left out the birds.

ElfQuest fanart again, this time Moonshade. I'm not a big fan of hers, but I like her design a lot. Sorry for the weird texture things :s

My alltime favorite elf from ElfQuest <3 I had a bit troubles trying to draw with the comic style, I'm kinda used to more realistic thesedays. But I still love EQ! Really waiting for the movie too :)

And my fandom of EQ continues. I'm not entirely happy with this one yet, I had to color this in a hurry... So I could say it's still a WIP. I'm not happy with Leetah's eyes/face, I have to do something about it. And the background is a bit weird too... Working on it, working on it.. : p

Update on Leetha's face!

Well, the official ElfQuest calendar [link] is up so I can share this piece that I submitted for it. The theme this year was the magic of ElfQuest so, of course, I went with Leetah, the most amazing healer the elves have ever known. In this scene, she's healing her son. It takes place directly after the scene in "Full Circle" where Sunstream destroys the dark magic. Cutter carries him off and Leetah follows. I always thought she went with him to their den to heal him completely as she hadn't done so when he was injured on an earlier hunt. The pain needed to teach him and now that he learned all he could from it, there was no more need to suffer.

This is an old submission that I did to the ElfQuest Calendar. It actually made it into the calendar, too! :w00t: So, I was happy. Anyway, this is Joyleaf, Cutter's mother and Bearclaw's lifemate. The theme was "Beloved Dead" so, I wanted this to be a softer, almost distant thought image and so...here it is. I hope you like it. :aww:Joylea

There was a calendar contest over on the EQFanart site and this was my submission. It's Joyleaf, mother of Cutter (one of two of my favorite characters in the entire series). The task was to draw one of the characters in the classic Pini pinup style from the calendar that was released a few years ago. ...so...here's my contribution :aww: I hope you like it :D

This is the linework for number 39: Dreams, in the art prompt project. I've been doing so much negative stuff for the art prompt that I really wanted to do something sweet. And I just finished Wolfrider in the digital EQ (thanks again Wendy and Richard!) and I am more upset now about how things turned out for Strongbow/Moonshade in that comic because they really got shafted hard. Stupid Bearclaw. So this is how things should have been, and it's also my homage to Wendy's illustration called "True Peace" with Cutter and his family.

I feel like I'm starting to do better with likenesses of characters, which I'm stoked about. This is also the first time I've really drawn wolves, so be gentle. The great thing about drawing Elves in a pile of furs is that if you don't want to draw something, put some fur over it! That's not why Strongbow has some fur over his crotch, it's so he doesn't accidentally teabag Chitter. (And if you don't know what teabagging is- it's where you put your balls one someone's head. I don't know why anyone would want to do this, but then again, I don't have balls.)

*ahem*

I'm totally not going to color this right now, so screw you guys. But I will someday...when I have time and feel the need. But until then anyone can color it as they like! Just send me a note so I can see your work!

Happy Halloween.

This is a Elfquest character in an Avatar costume...kinda a gimme as Ekuar is the only bald character in the entire EQ universe, but hey... he's also a rock...er....bender. The arrow kinda looks like a penis with the little brow furrow in the middle of it...which I'm sure is a freudien sign of some kind. lol

TilaweedColourTest.1993-2010.Revision.Szekeres

I found this old color test painting I did of Tilaweed originally done in 1993, well before the first issue of ElfQuest/WaveDancers was done. It has never seen print, nor the light of day since it was completed in 1993. I decided to update it, revising it for 2010.

Tilaweed Card 1993.Szekeres

This illustration of Tilaweed was created as a thank you card that accompanied an original art gift of Tilaweed for Cat Kouns Born: A significant staff member (and constant friend) at Warp Graphics while WaveDancers was in production. (Thank you Cat, for the high rez digital files of this artwork for my archive gallery). It's rare that I do artwork specifically as gifts.

I used the line art that I did for a proposed 1st issue cover for WaveDancers. I cut the page to the size of a card, and masking taped it to my painting table. When removing the masking tape, it left the linework underneath it untouched by the paint.

WaveDancers was published during 1993 - 1994, so this is from that same time, but has never seen print publication. It's interesting to me how elongated the design of Tilaweed became. She was the poster girl of the series.

I've updated the look of Tilaweed for the new Elf-fin series Julie Ditrich and I are currently working on. Still long and lithe, but a touch more toned.

The updated Tilaweed for comparison is here: [link]

More ElfQuest fanart. It's Venka!

I never could even remotely draw Venka as a kid. Something about her outfit was just out of my realm of comprehension. It still is, but I added some seams to it so that it makes a little more sense... to me, anyway.

ELFQUEST. What.

It's a comic series that started in 1978 about a group of promiscuous, four-fingered Elves that ride on wolves, elk, giant hawks, and generally were just really cool. AND YOU CAN READ IT ONLINE FOR FREE NOW which is kind of rad ( [link] ).

This is what I was into years before I watched anime. This, Tomb Raider and Harry Potter is what I drew for years, I think, which in hindsight really meant I shouldn't have been reading this stuff (I was like 10 when I made my first website - it was a fansite for ElfQuest). BUT ANYWAY. ELVES.

Nightfall was one of the iconic characters of the series. Though she was very much in a supporting role, she was really kind of the coolest (let's be honest) and elfiest (check out that bow) of the Wolfriders. And today I was like, "I wanna draw Nightfall." I also realized I know more about fictional elf genealogy than I do chemistry. So here we are.

This originally was a doodle in the margin of some notes I did in class. She has horns and what appears to be a fluffy tail, but don't get her mixed up with my dragon-kin. I really don't have any story for her, I just thought she was cool.

About halfway through coloring, though, I realized that her color scheme was reminiscent of Elquest's Ember ( [link] [link] ) which was a bit weird.

Looking at pictures of Ember, though, I realize why my original grasp of anatomy was so messed up (when I was like 10). No offense meant, Wendy Pini's a brilliant artist, but DAYUM. Those elves have REALLY big heads and weird proportions. Just sayin. It messes up a kid that's learning to draw.

Anyway. My concept behind this particular lady was a person who hunts animals, but appears to be a bit like one herself.
