Collage is one of those art forms that immediately sets off heated debate about our most fundamental ideas and visceral feelings about the very essence of art itself.
Turn of the century troublemakers Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso began enhancing their paintings with glued on bits of cut out fabric and other materials, thus neatly blurring the line between the art categories of painting and sculpture. They shifted the emphasis or “meaning” of their painted images beyond an attempted interpretation of the painted “text” to thinking about the artists’ “process” – something wholly separate from the paintings themselves.
And with that a whole new Rubic’s Cube of basic questio

Every Day is Pancake Day
There seem to be quite a lot of discrepancies in determining the actual date of National Pancake Day.
Internet sources list it variously as February 25 or 26 or September 26. For Christians observing Lenten rituals, “Shrove Tuesday” (on February 17 this year) is “Pancake Day,” the day you gorge on before beginning your fast. The IHOP (International House of Pancakes) should be a determining authority, but their advertising

Artists have always feared that they are unappreciated and that the march of progress comes only from business, science and their machines. 1984 was imagined by an artist projecting these exact fears. Theatrics aside, it made me ponder on why Britain has this villainous reputation, and I started to compile a list:
The British Empire was the biggest drug-dealing organisation in history and made a fortune selling opium to China. In the mid 19th century, when the Chinese Emperor tried to stop them, they sent in The Nemesis – basically the Death Star of the era – which proceeded to decimate the entire Chinese fleet. Then they stole Hong Kong.
In an emergency, such as a disaster or terror attack, an intelligence committee is convened. Its codename is “COBRA”.
The British military’s communication network is called “Skynet

It follows a number of politicians, particularly those of the British and German governments, in the days between the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and the outbreak of hostilities in 1914.
The concept may sound rather dry, but watching the intricate lattice of alliances, treaties and family ties that existed across Europe 100 years ago crumble into war made for some rather tense drama.
If you’re a fan of either history or political thrillers (or fantastic moustaches), it’s highly worth a watch.
It is a little chilling to see how quickly things can fall apart.
BTW: The crisis in Ukraine started 16 days ago with the removal of President Yanukovych……just saying

Paramount has shut down pre-production on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot over "script problems".
Translation; Paramount realised that if they continued down the path Bay was going, fans would probably burn their studios to the ground.
With luck (and a dollop of common sense) the project will be shelved altogether and the IP left fallow until competent directors/producers are brought on board.

Titillation vs. SexismBoobs.Titillation vs. Sexism in Personal More Like This
Guys are fascinated by them.
Through single-digit ages, they find the very concept of them hilarious, and when puberty kicks in the mere thought of lady-lumps generally causes some movement in the trouser department. These weak-willed creatures will follow them anywhere and they will do almost anything if it means simply being permitted to gaze upon them for a few moments more.
The entertainment industries, from the big movie makers to the lowly art whores (like me) know this, and have played upon it for years in order to separate males from their money. As a result, mass media is awash with the female form in all manner of provocative poses and dress.
Many women are fed up with this, but is the whole thing “sexist”?
Well, it’s impossible and indeed wrong to say a whole industry is one thing or another. Ultimately it’s all one, big, dumb organism that simply moves with the cultural winds. It perpetuates what sustains it. It’s only when you break it
7 years!Damaged Thoughts7 years! in Personal More Like This
I missed it on Saturday but the 12th was my 7th dA anniversary! I can't believe it's been 7 years to be honest. In the fast moving world of the intertubes its rare for me (or anyone I would imagine) to be an active member of one website for so long. They usually get stale or something but dA did something right to keep my attention for so long (and it's not like I have not tried other art sites).
I didn't start drawing until I joined dA to be honest. Sure, I threw some graphite down on paper before but that was anything but drawing. I didn't take it seriously until I joined here. So, let's do a comparison of one of my earliest (or the earliest for that matter) and a recent drawing:
Looks like practicing does make a difference
I hope you all have a great year!

So, I finally beat her. Not that she was really the problem to begin with but I digress
For the last 6-8 months I have been, off and on (mainly due to pookman), trying to beat Okuu on Lunatic mode. I've beaten all the extra bosses (save Mamizou. I'm just not feeling TD. I'll get to her one day) so I wanted a new challenge of 1CCing a game on Lunatic. Being that Subterranean Animism is my favorite in the series I decided to start with that one. I figured the best way was to beat it and then practice the hell out of it
I also figured this wouldn't be that hard considering my Touhou experience...
Like I said, Okuu wasn't the problem. The problem was Orin. That God Damn cat caused me so many problems. It was her and her God forsaken meat shield fairies. I couldn't do it. No matter what I did I could not get past her. And scumbag Zun

The Serenely Powerful Art of `yuumei
In the top half of an hourglass, a polar bear and her cub perch perilously atop a wedge of melting ice, its dripping water becoming the "sand" that is inexorably drowning an urban couch potato figure in the hourglass's bottom chamber. The beautiful yet arresting digital painting is "Countdown" by yuumei and it is currently one of the most popular pieces on deviantART. It is "archetypal yuumei" in its perfectly balanced blending of a striking lyrically beautiful visual with an underlying urgent social or political message.
Her specialty is digital art in an anime style, but she often employs traditional watercolors and other elements. Her cause is saving and preserving what's left of the Earth's wildlife and its environment; she donates large portions of profits from her artworks to a host of wildlife and environmental organizations and urges all deviants and others to do the same. But what has really been her stand-out achievem

The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming in Personal More Like This

"...as long as you have one.
If you don't then you're broken."
The Asexual Orientation
Asexuality is a sexual orientation where a person does not experience sexual attraction. One out of every hundred people is likely to be asexual and facts such as this are still pushing boundaries and challenging the thought that the pursuit of happiness doesn't have to include sexual attraction.
I am very passionate about creating bridges of understanding, as I have said many times before. To understand asexuality better, take into consideration that there are different ways of being attracted to a person and that these attractions are not necessarily tied together.
