I just returned home after leading a weekend photo tour/seminar based out of Canaan Valley, West Virginia. We had a big group of 18 talented and enthusiastic photographers and we worked it hard over the weekend. This is a shot from sunrise on the Sunday from the summit of Bear Rocks Preserve, Dolly Sods Wilderness, West Virginia. Enjoy and stay tuned for more images to come!

Don't worry, it's coming! This is a shot from several years ago from the summit of Spruce Knob in the Monongahela National Forest of West Virginia. The day brought very cloudy weather in the morning, but by the time the late afternoon had rolled around the sky began to break up.
I sat on the summit for several hours watching the play of clouds, light and shadow across the forest. This was my favorite shot from the afternoon, as the forest below became bathed in soft diffused light and the clouds above marched across the sky, I captured this image.

Second day of Spring and the weather is absolutely stunning. Beautiful clear days, warm temperatures and lots of colour. There's something about the smell of the fresh air and warm sun that soothes the soul.

Anyway here's a shot of the last few minutes of light before the sun disperses beyond the horizon, Wellington Bay - Nambucca Valley, NSW Australia.

It's high noon in the northern Tetons. Mt Moran looms over the most spectacular stand of autumn aspens that I've laid my eyes on. The first clouds appear over the mountains after a couple weeks of indian summer. This is October at its best in Wyoming. In just a day these leaves will be gone. Not long after that, these mountains will be capped in a fresh coat of white snow. The valley will soon surrender to the brutal wyoming winter. In this moment though, I can't Imagine a more beautiful day.

Looking up the valley towards 14,130 ft Capitol Peak, it's evident that this landscape is in transition. It's late September in the Elk Mountains. Lush, green aspens are beginning to turn their famous shade of gold. The summit of this fourteener has just received its first dusting of snow. Day turns to night.

Stormy skies above Baldy Mountain are illuminated from the last rays of light of the setting sun disappearing behind the ten mile range to the west. Boreas pass, named for the Greek God of the north wind, is littered with tree stumps that were used to construct the railroad that connected Breckenridge and Denver during the gold rush days. Some of these stumps are quite beautiful and make for a perfect foreground to a photo. In late july these mountainsides are dotted with indian paintbrush and many other species of wildflower.

Baldy Mountain - White River National Forest - Near Breckenridge, Colorado

This is actually the same stump that I took a photo of two years ago. just looking north, instead of west.

Last colors of a magic sunset after a short thunderstorm over the Mount Aiguille, a well known summit of Vercors Natural Park in french Alps.
I remember the contrast between the color of the sky and the freshness of theses big plants in the foreground called "verâtres" in french :)

Last autumn colors on these trees of Devoluy mountains in french Alps. A great color contrast between the spot light on the foreground trees and the dark cliffs shadowed by the clouds...

I got myself up before sunrise in an attempt to capture the fall colors in the Wasatch mountains to the east. Driving towards my destination I could see the thin bands of clouds high in the atmosphere and from experience I expected them to light up in this colorful show. Right on cue, as the sun's rays hit they glowed pink.

The unique clouds, fog in the valley, and brilliant yellows of the aspen trees combined for a memorable Autumn experience.

Another Red Castle image. The sun was setting quickly here and I knew I needed that light in my foreground. I was running through the marshy basin as the sun faded below the horizon trying to find a spot where the river lined up towards Red Castle. I found this spot with little time to spare and got a couple of quick shots off before the foreground was in shadow and turned dull. The difference in the photos taken with sun and without is huge.

A shot from an amazing afternoon in november. The light we have up here in november is such a delight for a photographer. Several hours of the most gorgeous light.

This is shot 3 minutes away from my house...

Aurora Borealis a couple of days ago...A stunning sight.

Magic cloth technique. Hiding the sky with a cloth for the majority of the exposure, the letting the sky expose for the last 20 secs...

Hope you like it as much as i do...

I wasn't even going to get up this morning after a long night of star trails, but, on 2 1/2 hours rest, I saw some epic clouds racing towards the sun. Apparently, a coyote saw them too and decided he would follow.

60 mph winds scraped the land and ripped red dust into the sky. My teeth were covered, my eyes, shut to slivers, screamed from the grit. After ascending the rise, a blood sun sent his minions at me, but I was sheltered by the Totem.

I think that is how Paul Atreides felt during his exile to the desert.
