He finally shut it off
And arose, cursing
The vodka mopped up
With some cheap paper towel
He went to the sink
Water splashed his face
His bloodshot eyes cracked open
And looked at himself
Fourty-two years old
Unshaven, too fat, grey hair
He hated himself
So he looked away
He had lingered long enough
He hated mirrors
Breakfast was simple
Cheap beer and some corn flakes
With water, not milk
Milk was expensive
Money came far too rarely
Water was okay
