An image from my last trip to Isle of Skye in september 2009... Dark stormy clouds over the Cuillins hills from the coast of Elgol. Between magical light and showers, it does remind me the strength of scottish landscapes.

Long exposure at dusk, over a small lake in the Cerces mountains, in French Alps. The clouds were moving in my direction pushed by a strong wind, creating this impression of movement with the long exposure.

It's been a while since I've been out shooting, but fortunately this afternoon I was lucky enough to have the time and the weather on my side. I was in the mood for some long exposures so I headed off to Sawtell beach, that's where I found these interesting rocks. I probably should have worn shoes though, those rocks are razor sharp on barefoot.

A shot from an amazing afternoon in november. The light we have up here in november is such a delight for a photographer. Several hours of the most gorgeous light.

This is shot 3 minutes away from my house...

Skittendalen (in english "Dirty Valley") is my favourite place on earth. I will probably devote quite much of my time to shoot this area over the next years. This one is from a trip last october, looking over towards the mountains Rismålstinden (1012m) and Lilletinden (1134m)

Hope you like it...

Have a great day!

I shot this on one of the last evenings in may. One of the most productive and and
fascinating sessions i`ve ever had. Heavy clouds came rolling in just before midnight...the best
clouds in the history of young Heitmann...They may look cartoonish, but it was one of those nights
where you really need to see it with your own eyes to believe it...

I found this small crack and went down and dirty to get the comp i was after. This was one of the first shots of the evening.
It`s about half an hour to midnight and the sun still needs some time to dip under the clouds. An hour later it was just over the horizon lighting up
the clouds in the most amazing way.

Still...this ended up as one of my favourites of the evening.

For this one my tripod was submerged and the camera just 10" above the water surface. Thank god I have "Live View" now - otherwise composing this one would have been impossible.

The Hidden Place

Fellow photographer Didl Gloger found this hidden place. It was tricky to get down there as it was rainy and slippery. I hope it was the effort.

BTW ... thanks to all the comments on the DD of today. There are too much comments to answer them all.

Jokulsarlon
Iceland

Jokulsarlon lies in Iceland's South East - some 380km away from the capital Reykjavik. It is easily accessable by the ring road and is definitely worth spending several days there as the weather conditions change giving a whole variety of different possiblities for photography. This particular evening was clear and there were icebergs floating close to shore or already ashore. I fished this one out of the water for this image. Image was taken with a 3 stop soft and 2 stop hard GND (slight cast in the sky which I have left in). People have often commented on previous photographs about the reflection being brighter than the sky ; that is the intention with this image and several others I took while on the trip last year.

Jokulsarlon
Iceland

Jokulsarlon in Iceland's southeast is surely one of the must not miss locations in a country of superlative natural wonder. Most people visit the lagoon but I found it just as interesting on the beach where fragments of icebergs are washed up on the black sand. The wonderful thing about icelandic summers is how long the poost-sunset light goes on for. We thought we were too late after shooting at the lagoon but stayed here until just before dark. The movement is visible in the more distant icebergs still in the sea

Godafoss,
Iceland

Godafoss in the north of Iceland is undoubtedly one of the highlights of a photographic trip. Marianne and I were very fortunate to encounter this waterfall with the prevailing wind blowing back into the falls which allowed us the rare freedom of shooting without spray interfering. I shot this one with an ND500 and found out that later, Marianne took a vertical shot of the same scene .

"Cloud Factory"

The Kalalau overlook can offer tremendous views or a vertigo inducing cloudy wonderland. On this day we had both. As the clouds lifted to reveal the valley I used my 10stop filter to render the scene with the movement of the clouds. The clouds...being formed in front of our eyes.

Thanks for the c/c and support!

Deep within the Manoa Valley on Oahu lies treasures to be found. This perspective is deceiving as the upper falls is actually 30ft while the middle section is about 10 or so.

Thanks!

(sister image to The Rapture)

From back in May '11 during a great sunset session at Secrets Beach. The late season swell combined with the sand that had been returning to the beach made for plenty of interesting effects. I loved the way the water was peeling around the corner and wanted to bring out the streaking effect. Subtle but good sunset :)

Techy stuff: 1 exposure with 3stop RGND + 1 for sky (darker w/ rgnd)...this helps me control the range of light. Fg was shot at around 1/2s (sweet spot for water usually).

Composition wise I generally tend to not leave so much open space in photographs, however here I feel that the moving water acts as enough interest to balance out the rocks on the right side and the curving lines of the water bring the eye through the image toward the sunset.

Much thanks for the thoughts all!

La digue Island
Seychelles . 2010

*

An abstract view .. with a long Exposure by using some ND filters ... Lee & Singh ray .. mixed.

I was very inspired by this light and the stunning color of water .. A storm was coming , The whole image has a strange appearance du to the long exposure .. the warmer tone coming from the long exposure with singh ray filters ..
and the spots of dust & water ...
But I like it like that ... It creates something abstract.

:)

thanks for your words .

MAJ : I just fixed the horizon .. and removed the small island.

Hello,

This is a big ice piece found ashore on the Jokulsarlon beach in Iceland . This picture is from July, 2009 . I've removed some color saturation and cropped the image close to the square idea .

technically 30 seconds to have the sea & sky with a more abstract touch .

here are some other pictures from the same serie ,
this was a really stunning night atmosphere ..

thanks you very much for your words & encouragements

The Photo

One of the first photography books I ever bought, and one that had a huge influence on my landscape photography, was Joe Cornish's "First Light". It's still one of my favourite books, and one I regularly flick through for inspiration.

On the cover of that book is a magical beach, rocks in a raging sea with harsh mountain peaks rising out of the water across the bay. I've wanted to visit the place pretty much since I first bought the book.

So when I was in Skye for 3 days recently, making the long trip around the south east of the island to get to Elgol ("Ealaghol" in the local Gaelic) beach was pretty high up on the list of things I wanted to do. It's a long trek to get there (especially considering we were staying in the northern most part of the island) but the journey is beautiful, and Elgol, with it's views across the water of the Cuillin mountains, is absolutely stunning.

Of course, I'd hoped for a beautiful blast from the last rays of the sun to pick out the mountain sides before sunset. I'd hoped for colourful clouds...but in the end I got neither. Thick cloud cover obscured the sun and removed any chance of colourful skies....but the place still has an incredible atmosphere, and there was no way I was going to leave without getting one shot that I was happy with.

I took 7 exposures that evening (I take far fewer shots now than I used to), and this was the very first.
Elgol, like many places in Skye and the Highlands, is pretty high up on my "Really have to get back there one day and try and shoot it better" list.

Another (and probably the final) image from an evening shooting last year with ~arqhugo and ~PauloALopes

I used the Lee Big Stopper to give a long exposure, but had to open up to f8 and push the ISO to 400 to keep it from being excessively long. The light was excellent, and I wanted to get a variety of shots done.
