I've finally finished Drifblim - I meant to do it straight after I had finished Drifloon, but I got distracted. It's actually very sweet for a hot air balloon! And apart from the cloud on it's head, it was pretty straight forward to build.
If you're wondering why I cut it into so many horizontal rings, rather than fewer pieces cut vertically, well, I'll tell you. It's a regular dilemma that I stress over - do I make the template more or less pieces.
You would think that it would be better to do fewer pieces, but that often makes the build much harder to construct. And since our reader experience levels lie within the novice to expert, we have to accommodate for the ones that need the most help.
So after building it with vertical cuts - it was significantly less pieces - and finding it somewhat fiddly towards the closing part of the model's main body, I decided to make the cuts horizontal which dropped the difficulty level from medium to very easy.
The only part that I could not simplify was the cloud on it's head. That part IS very complicated and I doubt that anyone could build it without viewing the PDO. I did include a diagram in the download pack, but still ... :\
Anyway, many thanks go to PMF for this gem. It will be available from our website [link]
