They think I don't understand them, with their harsh human voices--rough, unmusical, flat. It hurts my ears to hear the music of the humans. But I do. I know from the way they feed me, the way they act around me, like I'm their big pet, their remora fish, the tagalong who hangs on to them all the time and needs them to survive.
They are wrong.
I don't need them.
I need the ocean. I need my family.
Every day is warm water, dead fish. Every day is training and being snapped at and smiling humans. Every day is a million flashes of a million shiny rocks and humans gasping at me from behind a glass wall.
