This is a city concept we are situated on the same town, but now somewhere near the main bridge. I must admit, there are some areas of this work that looks like speedpainting, but thats because im am still figuring out how to give that "finished look" to a painting.
The city has no photographic reference or perspective measurements. It just came out from my mind. So there should be some mimor issues with the distances. Though I think it turned out pretty well dont you think?
This took me so much time. much longer that I expected, like 12 hours at least. I still need to learn too many things.
Alright I always wanted to create buildings and structures. Rise up cityes and bring light to them. I guess tis was pretty close to what I wanted to make. I consider this a speed painting, scince its not finished at all, but I managed to give some exttra detail to the composition and lighting. The size is big enough to appreciate.
This image is about a hidden city as the title says. Even if you are on the biggest city in the world, you can always find small, "lost" places that speak by themselves, places that have their own stories andtraditions
Im now learning to use a more delicated and precise color palette, wich makes me feel so great
Anyway, hope you like my second attemp with a tablet guys
wow, that was some great fun. I did this so fast!. Anyway, here I portrayed a dying space station, wich was attacked by some nearby ememies. some survivors look at the remaning pieces of this building, hopless...
oh well, this is also for the contest holded by these 2 guys and
Another practice. This is entirely painted except the planet texture. I am preparing for my biggest project till now. This was done for about 45 minutes so don't complain about the lack of detail. Any usefull critique and comments (and favs) are appreciated.
The End or New Beginning?! This is up to you to decide!
20 minutes speedy of an huge unfiinished city buildings. Any feedback is welcome.
In year 2353 Humanity founds some new elements on Mars and the Moon which allow us to start conquering the galaxy. Faster and bigger ships are all around the Milky Way. Humanity gets in touch with few alien races which are friendly but some of them aren't. Our big ego pushes us into war with one of these races and they pretty much annihilate us. For around 300 years we are stuck again on our planets trying to invent some new technologies. And this is one of the results. A huge city big and powerful enough to show our improved technologies. The construction is still not over though.
Edit:added the foreground buildings and edited the sun a little
I ever wanted to do such a pic. And finally I'm pretty happy. I know there are still some things that seem to be kinda off but I don't care because the whole image is (in my opinion) in harmony. The most time I spent on the galaxy that is about to be destroyed by a giant black hole. Some last Star-Destroyer are on the run. Unfortunately this epic scene takes place behind the planet, so you won't see it I'm really sorry but I had to pay some attention to realism, and a planet isn't transparent.
I proudly present my latest wallpaper. The story: You are in the captain's office right after a larger fight. The ship was heavily damaged but the homefleet was successful. At the moment you are on the search for the rest of the escaped aggressors. The captain starts to have doubts about his mission, his job and his life...
Ok I tried new things in this pic and I'm pretty happy with it's outcome. I ever wanted to creat a flight-scene with larger ships. To avoid confusion: the thing on the right side is an extraterrestrial transmitter. I thougt it's nice to implement new elements to the common stuff. It basically is a mattepainting, textures were taken from cgtextures.com. There'll be only one resolution this time (via download). It's a larger wide-screen so you shouldn't have problems by sizing it down (or adding borders for your personal scree-size).
I appreciate every comment, fav and email, as always :thighthug: Thanks to ~LordDaroth for the title
My second entry for =theluminarium's latest exhibition called "Genesis". Project Genesis is inspired by an old Star Trek movie. The project turns dead and lifeless planets into green earth-like habitats. The population of the main-planet decided to colonize the two neighboring moons and startet a Genesis missile for each. In the process of transformation, everything gets killed. The evacuation is in full progress...
Just another quick mess around, always wanted to paint some huge ship with thousands of people boarding it, why are they leaving? Who knows, world is dying, war, holidays, or maybe there is an awesome sale in one of the huge mega malls on Mars.
A print of this painting can be bought here [link]
The aftermath of a devastating alien attack against a huge city complex, in an act of desperation the inhabitants used weapons of mass destruction on their own city to deter the invading forces. The weapons did indeed repel the attack, the ships that weren't destroyed or to damaged left retreated, the huge alien ships that were caught in the resulting explosions smashed into the cities bellow, huge towering wrecks littered the cities, plumes of smoke and ash ran on for miles, most of the area was reduced to a fiery inferno. Those that survived were greeted only by hellish scenes and a hostile environment, they considered the ones who had died in the attack the lucky ones.
New image from the Luminarium exhibit [link] go take a look there are so many awesome images.
"All along the watch tower!" well in this case the Watch Tower doesnt look like it could support the weight a even one person let alone several, also that lava hitting it probably isnt doing it any good, those hellish minions and their bad design when will they learn. This one took a bit longer than the rest, roughly 50 minutes, spent longer on the rocks, I hate painting rocks.
And yes I did say the next image would be Paradiso but I changed my mind, that might be tomorrows image, but dont hold me to that.
Well, it's not a nebula but it got that aerial feeling anyway. Dedicated to our lovely wallpaper gallery director, .

Tried myself on some concept arty stuff again today. Created me some brushes and started painting. Used a plate photo ~MyArms-YourHearse gave me a couple of years ago. Still useful buddy. Thanks once again.
It is rough and i actually have no clue what we're seeing here. Some futuristic city i guess. Liked the result. Posted it.
Yeah you could say i fell in love with the city i created in ‘Phoenix Rising‘. Since i have built me quite a nice plate in Vue i had to take another visit. And it could become more in the future. I’m sure you don’t mind as long as some stunning vistas like this one are the results of the excursions. Again i’m wondering why i’m into such megacities. I’m very interested in technology, where it took us in the past and where it may take us in the future. Maybe that’s a reason.
When i started this one i didn’t have a real plan. I was just playing with atmospheres and clouds in Vue and found a nice point of view on the city part we see farther in the back of my ‘Phoenix Rising‘ picture. I started to add more details to that area and moved objects around to find a good composition. Lots of smaller testrenders happening in that stage. When i had arranged everything to a point of satisfaction i started play with the lighting. I really wanted to make it look somewhat photoreal without to lose the usual tension and contrast that i usually get into my pics. I eventually became undecided between a more natural lighted sunset with the light source behind the camera and a real devilish/hellish red backlit situation with the sun shining directly into the cam.
I stuck to the backlit setup because of the tension it created in the scene. Nonetheless i had a problem with visible detail. Since it all was pretty much in shadow. But i wanted lots of details visible! What i did was rendering both lighting situations i had in mind. The one with the sun behind the camera captured all the little details i wanted visible. I took that render pass and layered it above the backlit version and started work both together. That’s a technique i use whenever i want more detail in certain shadowy areas. Of course you can also use the multipass possibilities of Vue to fix those. It all depends on what you want to achieve.
In the end i managed to get together a pretty decent result that can walk hand in hand with my ‘Phoenix Rising’ project. It shows another side of that megacity. A bit darker and dense… almost like you could swim through the atmosphere. Another view i would die for to see for real.
Vue – Photoshop – Wacom – 4000px wide
UPDATE 25.10.2010 Updated the pic with a more dramatic cloud setup. Should look better now. It's closer to the pic i had in mind now. Print is updated too.

This is my benchmark painting for 2009. Much like my pervious big ones like 'Artificial' or 'Epica' this painting marks something special for me personally and in a technical way. I also used it to check out how much my, currently, new machine can take. I used Vue to render the basic 3d plate. I also rendered each part on a standalone pass. So the ground complex was done within a single Vue file, as well as the ring part. The small ships and the clouds were also rendered with single takes. That gives you the most freedom in the postwork. The hero render with the ground stuctures, landscape took about 28hrs to finish. A first try to render it failed after 8hrs with a corrupt Vue file when i tried to resume the render later. That was fun. All the other elements got rendered in a much shorter time. I also used quite some quality settings for the hero render.
I used DAZ3D Dystopia City blocks to create the structures and techy elements. Before i could use them i had to split the original files apart with c4d to pick me the most interesting models off the pack. Required quite some time. In Vue then i used the models to create the structures. It's much like the modellers who worked on the first starwars movies who did use old battleship modelkits to create their spaceships. I'm doing the same with these 3d models of the buildings. Take something that's already there to create something new. Did that with my 'Epica' painting too but i was not as deep into 3d as i am now. Not saying that i'm a 3d specialist... by - no - means!
Inspiration could be, once again, Mass Effect. I think the lighting, colors and style goes the same direction the game does. It's also my wish to have a chance to see such things with my own eyes. That would be quite a sight i guess. Of course the usual suspects like the Coruscant cityplanet from starwars and other sci-fi movies and books.
