While i`m planning and scouting the planned location for a special aurorashot...i kill some time doing regular moonscapes.

When i shot this i was knee deep in the river. Airtemperature was - 12 °C. brrrr.... I followed the river and shot a few decent shots. I absolutely love shooting a winter forest under a bright moon....

I hate those branches sticking out on the right side. But composing a relatively dark scene is tricky and i have no chance of spotting those small branches while i`m shooting. Maybe i should clone them out, but i just didnt have the patience right now..

"Cloud Factory"

The Kalalau overlook can offer tremendous views or a vertigo inducing cloudy wonderland. On this day we had both. As the clouds lifted to reveal the valley I used my 10stop filter to render the scene with the movement of the clouds. The clouds...being formed in front of our eyes.

Thanks for the c/c and support!

There are some places that are difficult to do justice too. Polihale is one of them. This HUGE beach is the largest in Hawaii and at the westernmost part of Kauai. Massive sea cliffs which end (or start depending on travel direction) the Na Pali coast dwarf all that camp there. Polihale translates to House of Po, as the spirits would jump off the cliffs into the Hawaiian afterworld, Po.

While photographing under the setting moon I noticed one of the frames in my camera had the milky way in it...then looked up and realized the setting moon was low enough to reveal the stars above!

I ran down to the ocean's edge where I had photographed this type of shot at sunset and started clicking away.

This is 8 vertical images, 30s each with a file size of 70" and 1gb! The moon was almost full and about in inch (2.7cm if converting :P) and gave enough light to illuminate the landscape while still allowing the milky way to shine through.

I have had a very hard time coming up with a title for this and It is an ode to the mythology of the place :) Still not completely sold on it...but we'll see what you all think!

The summer solstice is a magical time of year on Kauai. The sun sets at its northern most point and sends golden rays across the north coast. The Kalalau Overlook is one such spot. Often shrowded in clouds it can look like one big cloud or one of the greatest views on the planet. This day had a bit of both.

Arriving a bit more than an hour before sunset the clouds moved in and out and as the sun got low the valley cleared in totality and the golden light shone in. The amount of color in the scene was overwhelming.

4 horizontal images (2 blended photos each), railing removed from bottom right...was standing on table to get better perspective.

Much thanks!!

This is one of the first decent shots I ever took with my camera. I didn't know much about composition, I just got lucky :)

I was digging through my archives and decided to give it a re-edit since my skills have hopefully improved in the last year.

Had some fun with night shots.

This is a 5 minute shot. Fired the flash a few times from each side with a warming gel.

Had to do some serious noise reduction in the sky.

For those that were wondering, the reason some of the small star trails are segmented, is because (I think) clouds moved in front of the stars for a part of the exposure, thus blocking the light.

I see that I have reached 10k page views. Thanks for all the support :)

One of those days spent in a sea of clouds. Then, as on cue, the light intensifies, the heart pounds, a stray ray peaks through, palms sweat, sometimes the world just opens for you.

p.s. During the climb, a massive bolt of lightning leapt from the fog. Thunder crackled from each tree. It called for about a minute.

Has anyone else experienced lightning in a snow storm? Happened to me twice now, but I thought it was virtually non-existent.

This was one of the most interesting displays of light I have ever witness. As this storm began its climb over the daunting Eastern Sierras the sun rose and created this magnificent display. This beautiful scene did not last long as within 30 minutes the mountains completely disappeared behind a wall of clouds.
