While i`m planning and scouting the planned location for a special aurorashot...i kill some time doing regular moonscapes.

When i shot this i was knee deep in the river. Airtemperature was - 12 °C. brrrr.... I followed the river and shot a few decent shots. I absolutely love shooting a winter forest under a bright moon....

I hate those branches sticking out on the right side. But composing a relatively dark scene is tricky and i have no chance of spotting those small branches while i`m shooting. Maybe i should clone them out, but i just didnt have the patience right now..

I love shooting under a full moon. Moonlight is perhaps my favourite light, perhaps only beaten by the midnightsun...

I will be posting more of these in the future..

Shot a couple of hours ago. Theres a big storm heading our way...it`ll probably hit us sometime tomorrow. The wind was quite strong already so i wanted to shoot some rushing clouds illuminated by the moonlight....

This is one of the first decent shots I ever took with my camera. I didn't know much about composition, I just got lucky :)

I was digging through my archives and decided to give it a re-edit since my skills have hopefully improved in the last year.

I just returned from a couple of days following a snow storm in the mountains of West Virginia. This water along Shays Run is one of my favorite waterfall locations. I climbed and slid down the hill to get below the falls. In order to get this perspective, I had to climb into the freezing water.

Geisler Spitzen - Dolomites

After we arrived up here thick fog closed in and we spent the whole evening sitting in front of our tents seeing nothing. I hoped that the fog would clear over night and on the next morning we had this situation.

Mostnica - The Entrance

The entrance to the narrow part of the gorge. Once again you can see the lovely green water and the nice colorful leaves everywhere.

I used this one as well to try the new demo of NIK Viveza 2 which simply rocks. Take a look at it.

There are some places that are difficult to do justice too. Polihale is one of them. This HUGE beach is the largest in Hawaii and at the westernmost part of Kauai. Massive sea cliffs which end (or start depending on travel direction) the Na Pali coast dwarf all that camp there. Polihale translates to House of Po, as the spirits would jump off the cliffs into the Hawaiian afterworld, Po.

While photographing under the setting moon I noticed one of the frames in my camera had the milky way in it...then looked up and realized the setting moon was low enough to reveal the stars above!

I ran down to the ocean's edge where I had photographed this type of shot at sunset and started clicking away.

This is 8 vertical images, 30s each with a file size of 70" and 1gb! The moon was almost full and about in inch (2.7cm if converting :P) and gave enough light to illuminate the landscape while still allowing the milky way to shine through.

I have had a very hard time coming up with a title for this and It is an ode to the mythology of the place :) Still not completely sold on it...but we'll see what you all think!

Kalalau Beach. 180 degree view...with the mostly full moon over the cathedral section of the valley. Needless to say this photo is huge 17x51 @ 300dpi. First time i've done something like this and mostly happy with the results. Note to self, make sure circ. pol is not on next time.

In any case hope you all enjoy!

Ok...so maybe I'll edit from March '09 now :-P Editing ADD.

I was lucky enough to be up in Waimea canyon during a wet stretch. This is the same location as "climate contradiction" (which I just realized I never posted here and will later today). When comparing the two images you can see the difference the rain makes. Usually this hillside is drrrryyyyyy. The early morning cloudy light helped pop the colors. I have a whole set both in color and bw from this area that will be coming online soon!

Thanks for the c/c. (be sure to notice the cactus...yes cactus in the lower left)

An amazing place on the Reykjanes peninsula : the Blue Lagoon.
The water, rich in in minerals like silica and sulfur, have this color I've never seen anywhere else. The contrast between the apocalyptic sunset sky, the water and this huge lava boulder was unbelievable.

This was one of the most interesting displays of light I have ever witness. As this storm began its climb over the daunting Eastern Sierras the sun rose and created this magnificent display. This beautiful scene did not last long as within 30 minutes the mountains completely disappeared behind a wall of clouds.
