Some of you should recognise the name ID4 from the 1996 blockbuster hit Independence Day, a great movie and one of my favourites.
The man behind it, Roland Emmerich, has spoken about making a sequel and maybe turning it into a trilogy.
I just had to have ago at creating some illustrations based on a possible sequel.
There will be a series of images, this one, The Wreck, depicts an opening scene showing the 2 fin like structures that were located on the belly of the 500km long Mothership, since it was nuked the fins flew off towards the moon smashing into it at quite a speed, this left a mess of debris and dust. The alien race obviously miffed as to why one of their fleets suddenly went dark have sent a few scout ships to investigate. They will not be happy.

Hidden in dead space, the space between galaxies, lies the home of the most mysterious and destructive force in the universe. For years now planets have been falling victim to an strange alien mineral that grows rapidly, covering an entire planet in months and ripping it apart.
Scientists have spent these years researching the mineral, trying to understand how it works and more importantly where it comes from. Due to its volatile nature its impossible to study it up close, instead they watch its effects in different environments and use strong scanners and machines to get close readings.
A few things were understood from the beginning, it thrives on heat, naturally heading to the cores of planets to feed on the heat, it then grows even faster, in the cold dead of space it stays dormant, it was this behaviour that first made scientists think twice about its origin, was it really just a mineral, or was it sentient?
Now the discovery of this dark place hidden inside a thick gas cloud sheds a terrifying light on the matter, the mineral is indeed sentient and is in fact the basic form of a more advanced life form, strange space creatures similar in form to jelly fish are formed by advanced versions of the crystal formations, their nervous system and skeletal structure composed of the mineral, several planet bodies in the area show 2 distinct functions, one is the hive a huge advanced crystal formation able to create thousands of these creatures, they live of its energy, and forge worlds, huge planetoids with a fiery hole on one side, a huge crystal shard is created in side, it grows out of this molten forge before being blasted into space to be used as a seed.
There is no known defence against these creatures.

Very long intro I know, but it needs a bit of explaining, anyway its a new image based on that nasty planet cracking crystal stuff, also we see its more advanced forms, big floaty things with a giant eye, creepy.
About 3 days work in total. Also ITS GREEN, I have never done a predominately green image before hehe.

An image done as part of a series of images for a game trailer, about 13 in total, this is a scene depicting world burnt by war and a derelict ship floating in a belt of debris.
This image was put in my portfolio and thought I might upload it here also.

It's been a while since my last upload here.

So, it's rather a quick piece made last month, portraying Uranus and it's moon Miranda. Inspired by Experience the Planets project :)

Digital painting.

I probably won't be here tomorrow ('cause I'll be lying somewhere under the table drunken as hell), so I'm presenting you my "new year's" piece today.

Happy new year and all that stuff!

Real surreal... ...or whatever...

And before you ask - yes, it's all painted (except the planet/moon textures). No hubble images used.

I started this back in early December of last year and was close to scrapping it at least 10 times. I'm glad I didn't because it didn't turn out to be too bad in the end and it was fun to do. I wasn't necessarily worried about the end product so much as I was worried about just making something entertaining to look at and work on. It was pretty good practice and helped me get loose again, and it was also a nice break away from the other stuff I'm working on.

The inspiration for this came from an older work of mine called The Chase which I think I did back in 2009. I wanted to create something of a similar feeling but with a lot more speed and motion. I know I always say this, but I want my stuff to look like it was taken directly from a still of a movie, hopefully that sense of movement is present here. If not let me know, it'll only help. And I hope this version is better than the 09 version, that means I might actually be learning something. :O Btw yes, that is the same planet and ring from Outpost; recycling at its best.

Thanks for having a look, more stuff when it's done.
No promises.

Better late (way late), than never. I am finally submitting this piece to my gallery, I think it deserves that much by now. I made this piece for the Luminarium exhibit Illuminate a while back. I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure this was the last space art piece I made before I started doing mattepaints. I'm planning a return to the space art genre, it'll be in the mattepaint format (at least one piece will be), but it's something. But anyway, I got a few pieces lined up, all very cool. I hope to get them done something within the next 5 years, if possible, so keep a look out!

The year is 2818 and our planet is dead. No longer able to sustain life, we colonized new worlds in hope of survival. Unfortunately, we did not learn from our mistakes and within years of our arrival the planets were dying. Like a disease, they rejected our terraform attempts to make the atmosphere habitable and started falling apart from beneath us.

With no other planets near with even a chance of survival, we had no other option but to find alternatives to our growing needs. A decision was made to mine the nearby planets for resources in hopes of sustaining our own; we can only stand by and watch as planets are being destroyed in order for us to survive. I hope it's worth it.

Did this one back in September. I don't think I destroyed the planet enough, but y'know, we can't have everything we want.

Finally it is here! :iconqaz2008: and I have created this masterpiece. It started out with QAZ creating the beautiful gas giant and background and I came in with moons and various touches to seal the deal. The star was also done by both of us to get the maximum detail out of both or techniques.

I'm very happy with this piece :D :D Enjoy!!

This is an image I put together recently. The Alien flagships actually took ALOT of time to do, though they are so small. I used the background of my design "Cup O' Cosmos" for this image, changed it up a bit, added and removed some features.

Enjoy! :D

Also, the image title comes form the inspiration of this song--->

PLEASE DOWNLOAD! STARS ARE F*CKED UP.
So this is something I kinda whipped up on the train ride home and then finished at home. For this one, I made now title on or border on the image. 100% raw space

Enjoy

Funny how something I had destined for the scrap pile can come back to life after a few months of a break.

Really needs to be viewed full size, thumbnail doesn't quite cut it.

Thanks for any favs and/or comments. :)

Edit: 01/01/10 Some color issues fixed as well as some other updates

Dual monitor widescreen wallpaper, woohooo!

Update (04/28/10): Organizing my folders I found a different version of 'Minty Mouthwash" that I completely forgot I did. I actually prefer it to the green one, but maybe that's just me.

Download contains a zip with both dual-screen wallpapers.

A little while ago I got this email from Demos and he asked me to join in on a piece he was working on. As soon as I looked at that piece I wanted in. Stunning work. So it turned into a colab. I really enjoyed working with him and I think our result speaks for itself.

Enjoy!

Hi guys,

had to go back to this piece -> [link] and change some things. Added some subtle flares, toned the colors down and went with a more "natural" color scheme.

Tell me, which of the two is your favorite?

One of my recent projects, I plan on making a Voyage series, with this spacey sci-fi theme... I wanted to contrast something dark(dark clouds and ship) with something light(colorful nebulae). just trying new stuff, hope ya enjoy it.

Ship was painted in Photoshop, idea is from a model I saw at a museum.

Let your minds go crazy with story ideas and post them :P

Strongly inspired by Gary Tonge :iconantifan-real:

EDIT: Ok, I've been planning a major edit from the day I uploaded this, this wasnt 100% effort from me at all... I rushed it, but hopefully this version is better... hope ya like it :)

I cant thank :iconj4m3sb0nd: :iconladyrapid: :iconpr3t3nd3r: and :iconnameless-designer: enough!
