I absolutely LOVED doing this peice. Every now and again I seem to go through little obcessive phases. Though I must admit that Mega Man has been my favorite character for as long as I can remember. I did this peice for the release of Mega Man Powered Up. (Rokkuman Rokkuman in Japan) The background was added to the pic today really quickly as it did not originally have one. I have even sketched out many of the other robots to turn into vector. I may do them...eventually.... :/ Alot of people were really turned off by the cutesy style for Mega, but I loved it. Keiji Inafune is a genius. Don't worry, I'm sure there will be many more of Mega to come....but don't expect X characters, cause the Original will always be the best!
I was feeling a little nostagic this weekend and decided to break out some NES games. Though, naturally, Super Mario Bros. was the first NES game I'd ever played, I think it was Mega Man 2 that really got me into gaming in general. Good graphics (for the time), cool music, and kick-ass gameplay have always been the hallmark of the Mega Man (or Rock man for you purists out there) series, but I always look back on the 2nd game as my all-time favorite.
So I figured 'Why the hell not?' and modeled up, in my opinion, the coolest of the Mega Man bosses.
Yyyyyyes! After putting this off for time eternal, I finally got round to doing my first fully CG-ed picture of Mega Man Zero. Since this is my artistic debut into a new MM series in ten years, I thought I'd start things off with a bang by producing my most complex piece since the picture of Delia. Well, here it is, folks.
I almost thought this would never see the light of day. You see, I drew Zero and Ciel way back in October 2002! But for various reasons, I never got around to completing the picture before now, so I'm sorry if the artwork looks a little out-of-date.
Anyway, the words, as indicated at the bottom, are lyrics from my favourite song, "Like Lovers (Holding On)" by Texas - a song from the Titan A.E. soundtrack. I just thought they expressed Zero and Ciel's struggle well, and the bittersweet melody of the song suits the atmosphere nicely. You ought to download the song off Kazaa just to see how it fits. ^_^
Here's the Mega Man 10 cover that Capcom commissioned me to do this year. Hopefully I can put the rest of the cover up sometime next year when the game is released! This is actually the center portion of one HUUUUGE cover, but the rest of the cover has spoiler material such as bosses.
When Mega Man Zero was announced, I thought, "ANOTHER Mega Man series?! How many can one fanboy handle?" Don't get me wrong - I'm happy with the game itself. But I just had to take the piss out of Capcom for taking the saga to the nth level.
So I made a parody of the "Not Another Teen Movie" poster and labelled each character from the MM and MMX with the same nicknames used in the original poster. I would have liked to toss in key characters like Dr Light, Dr Wily and Sigma, but I ran out of nicknames by then and couldn't really find ones that would suit them well. Still, this picture generated quite a few larfs on the bulletin boards and won the "Pic of the Update" award at Mechadrake Assemblies. I suppose its success speaks for itself. ^_^
