My name is David and I've been making the comic strip "The DaneMen" for the last 7 years.
It is a strange comic strip.
No story. No dialogue. No characters.
Stranger still, every single person in "The DaneMen" looks exactly the same.
Visit this gallery for examples.
This article is meant to briefly give you some advice about comics, and for me to feel self-important.
We are already off to a great start.
First, some quick advice:
1. Read Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud.
2. Carry a small notebook with you everywhere.
3. Give yourself a deadline and keep to it.
4. Share your artwork with the world (probably via the Internet.)
5. Haters gonna hate.
That last one is more of a

When I first sold LMS to Paramount, a lot of people asked me: "How much money did you get?" "You're probably rich now, right?"
I mean, the solid gold mansion I bought was just a little gift to myself...but...
Ever since I was little, I've known I wanted to draw. From the day my parents put a pencil in my hand, this was my future. I just knew it, I had that gut feeling. So I stuck to it, and thankfully it took me to heights I'd have never imagined possible. Now with my new book Redemption heading off to studios soon for a hopeful movie package, I can't wait to see where this new road takes me.
That said, there's something else that tops all of this.
The other night I went out to visit my girlfriend's cousin and her family. Incredibly kind people with very sweet kids. Other than the two parents, there were 3 kids, but the one who caught my interest was the eight-year old boy, Diego.
Diego, shy, tiny, slender, reminded me of myself when I was his a

Oh come onSome people annoying so much with this "Uke Seme thing"Oh come on2 months ago in Personal More Like This
If people like sonadow they shouldn't even care about this seme-uke thing..
fighting over it? making retarded stamps of what is better for Sonic or Shadow? NOTHING IS BETTER
since they both are not really gay and it's just how the fan base wanted it.
so god dammit some people should calm their tits right now!
I can't explain this level of stupidity.
i'm a fan of sonadow for about 6 years now. and I never ended fighting with my friend over this silly subject who should be on top in the role play. it goes out naturally.
same way in art.. like people like it to be.
BUT THERE IS NO REASON TO FIGHT OVER THIS STUFF OMGGGGG
DA's Insular Taste PhenomenonIt's been quite a while since I wrote a preachy "THINK ABOUT YO' ART"-type journal, and some of my newer watchers may not know that this is a particular(ly annoying) habit of mine. This is a subject I've had on my mind for quite some time for a number of reasons, and it's recently coalesced into a semi-soluble form so here we go. (As an aside- this journal does have some recycled ideas from a previous post of mine, but obviously I hadn't really said everything I wanted to on the subject.)DA's Insular Taste Phenomenon2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's no mystery that I love this website. I came in at the tail end of the pre-critique wonder years, when the internet discovered and exploited that, yes, we don't always produce the highest quality art here. There's a lot of unpleasantness directed towards DeviantArt. At RISD, I made a point to never mention that I had an account here, because of the looks of disgust I would get haha and people would think about me differently. It was
Copyrights, patents, piracy etcHay guys, to what extent do you think it's okay to steal/copy stuff?Copyrights, patents, piracy etc2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm really undecided about many of these issues myself, so I made myself a wee questionaire and filled it in with my opinions.
Keep in mind I'm not a lawyer, and don't really care about what the actual laws are.
Do you think it's okay to pirate software, movies, music and books?
I support piracy because I see it as free advertising and believe that most people who would have paid for it still will.
I make a point to buy stuff I really like, though I'm more likely to support poorer developers or projects that just didn't pay off.
How about pirating really old stuff (NES games, The Beatles etc)?
It really bothers me how Nintendo are still trying to sell their old games, but then again they'd lose sales on their new games if they gave away those old ones for free. So *shrugs*. I've never felt bad about not paying for old stuff though, it's more important to support those who are actually
We Animate Things - the Studio of the FutureWhile I look for a new job to replace the one that disappeared earlier this year, I've been working on a new animation project, and actually working with other people on it. This is a first step towards eventually assembling an animation studio, under the label We Animate Things, or WAT.We Animate Things - the Studio of the Future5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Now, most animators I know have dreams of someday starting their own studio, and "doing it right, darn it"! But what I have in mind is a little different, specifically because most of the differences WAT will have are based on the fundamental business/organization/financial model of the company - NOT on the method or subject of the cartoons it will produce.
We Animate Things is a worker-cooperative.
Put simply, the company is owned collectively by its employees (or member-owners), at a one-person-one-vote level of control. I originally stumbled upon this form of business trying to answer the question "What if I don't want to make a non-prof

Pacific Central Time
The Rushed Series are based on how much you could animate in a day. Simple as that.
9/29/12 on 11am PCT. You will have 24 hours to animate.
I will check your status every 4 hours (as in, I'll ask for a .swf of what you have)
I will release a file (Flash 8) on 9/29/12, 10:50am on three locations:
- Stickpage Thread http://forums.stickpage.com/showthread.php?42626-Rushed4
- My DeviantArt Journal (THIS THING)
- Dedicated Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Terkoiz/363020970443585
There will be information in the file that you'll need in order to be in the final product.
Any Questions? Leave it a comment here!
Q: What about timezones? Will they cause problems?
A: That's why it's 24 hours. I'm not requiring you to animate the entir
CEA Blog: How (And Where) to Report DeviationsThe Galleries here at deviantART.com receive, on average, around a hundred thousand submissions every day- any way you look at it that is a lot of creative works coming in every minute of every day. Among this outpouring of creativity which we call Deviations there are, inevitably, works which could be potential problems and when members of the community find deviations which could be troublesome for one reason or another it is only natural to want to bring them to the attention of the staff here at deviantART.CEA Blog: How (And Where) to Report Deviations2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
Because of the various ways that a deviation might be a problem we'll focus on only one specific issue in this blog, that issue being the subject of copyright infringement.
Now we've already tried to explain the ins and outs of copyright in our copyright policy so if you haven't read that particular page yet I'd encourage you to do so now (you agree to obey the rules and restrictions laid out there every time you submit

Learning and Creating Animation in FlashI've gotten this question a few times, so I guess I'll address it in a journal- how to learn to animate (ponies?) in Flash!Learning and Creating Animation in Flash2 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off, I'd recommend reading any of the "How to Cheat in Adobe Flash" series of books by Chris Georgenes- they're really awesome primers on how all the various bits and animation features in Flash work.
Here's the CS5 version
As for animation approach, besides the info you'll get from there, Keith Lango's tutorials are surprisingly relevant for Flash symbol-based animation, despite being written for 3D:
Pose to Pose Keyframing and How It Works (2001)
Overlapping Motion: Breakdowns Can Be Such A Drag (2006)
For general animation know-how, of course you should check out
Slenderman caught on camera? ... :/YEsterday my grandmother found her old film camera in her basement!! She had about 11 shots of black + white film left in it too. She knows that I've been keen to take some film photos for a long time, so she called me up and invited me over. We both went out with the camera and I was really excited. She lives near a forest walk and we both thought it would be a good place to take some photos. It was the first time I've ever used a film camera, and an old one at that!!! She instructed me on how to use the camera, get the right exposures etc etc since it's fully manual. She let me take 7 photos and she took the remaning few.. we got home and my grandad developed the photos in their darkroom.Slenderman caught on camera? ... :/5 months ago in Art Features More Like This

I kept looking at the photos, because i loved them so much, and i was so excite

If you want to do art...Then DO it already!I've been asked by a lot of aspiring artists how I got into 3d and game art in general. So, I've decided to share my experience and what I've learned to hopefully give you guys some good advice. If you want to do art...Then DO it already!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off, I've always been a fan of video games. I used to go to my neighbors house and play Super Mario Land and Tetris on their Gameboy then go home to play more on my SNES. As I got older, the game that really stuck to me was Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I loved everything about it, and it's what really got me to draw.
I went to a small community college in fall 2008 to start a degree in Graphic Design. In high school I went through a big phase of designing icons for Live Journal and my parents convinced me it would be the safest route for a career. By the end of the first semester, I had been with my boyfriend Cody for a few months and observed what he did in his 3D Animation major. Since I loved games, I decided it would make a more enjoyable career path. I switched majors and
