There’s a really, really fast subway system in your future.
Would you believe ground travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco in less than thirty minutes? That’s the prediction of the Hyperloop’s financier, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk (the co–founder of PayPal). The Hyperloop is being designed as a driverless public transport train that will rocket between American c

The Heartbeat of Modern Music
From the days of Beethoven and Franz Liszt, to the Vaudeville stages of America in the1880s to the 1930s, to the electronic keyboards anchoring the rhythms of today’s rock groups and pop singers, the piano has been the heart of the music animating our popular entertainments. Not as sexy as the guitar, nor as brash as the drums, the pianos have been the steadying source of rhythm and timing holding together songs and other compositions for the past several centuries. And, oh yes, while not being so overtly sexy, pianos can be very romantic. Enjoy this gallery of the musician’s most basic dream machi
SNIPPY: evidence"Blasted mug!"SNIPPY: evidence3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I looked at it hatefully.
"This is all your fault!"
I attempted to throw the mug at the Arbitrator, to smash it, to let go of it.
Nothing of the sort was possible.
I flailed left and right. The mug did not budge. I could not let it go, no matter how hard I tried. It was as if it were glued to me with a strange static-like substance. It rolled between my fingers and from one hand to the other, but it was as if I were made of iron and the mug were a powerful rare-earth magnetic bearing coated with oil.
Why can't I let go of the mug?!
Did the Arbitrator's reconstruction of my organs have anything to do with this?
Upon giving up to prying the mug out of my hands, I turned to the Arbitrator and spoke.
I made my case calmly and clearly, pressuring various facts that my DNA couldn't possibly be on the mug and that I looked nothing like Captain and that it might as well scan my memories for evidence or something of that sort.
Internet TimeWe had the Oscars recently and as usual it wasn't without problems. One of the controversies was Chris Rock's biting commentary about doing voice work for animated films, which was unfortunately insulting to the many hard working (yet perpetually unknown) talents who produce about 90% of all voice work in the animated medium. Chris Rock's joke was funny for his circle of friends and the aging academy, but to younger artists and professionals it was very disrespectful. Voice actress Tara Strong took particular issue with Rock's comment and as we speak his twitter account is no doubt being flooded with angry hate messages and likely racism too... which is very unfortunate. http://www.examiner.com/african-american-entertainment-in-national/tara-strong-attacks-chris-rock-over-oscar-2012-animation-comments-quotesInternet Time4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Korra Problems Part 2After reading through the comments on my last journal (http://tompreston.deviantart.com/journal/New-Korra-Trailer-Released-386752726) it was apparent I wasn't very clear about what I meant when the producers knew at the end of the last episode that they had been picked up and could've changed the ending. Some of you thought that I meant they knew all along that Korra was meant to have more than one season, and that's not true. Korra was planned as a one season show, and it was through it's popularity while airing that Nickelodeon greenlit the next several seasons. However, that doesn't excuse the rushed ending and I wanted to explain why, but it's gonna take a little bit since I need to explain a bit about american animation productions first.Korra Problems Part 22 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now keep in mind, a lot of this journal will be speculation since I didn't work on Korra and have no privy to the actual behind the scenes workings. However, I do know a lot about american TV animation production to make some educated guesses and
Unspoken rulesRecently I posted a Mass Effect 3 comic, and I've noticed that an unfortunate number of people ignored the description telling everyone that it was an old joke originally posted months ago. You don't have to like the joke, but if your major criticism is "this joke is no longer topical" then that isn't really my fault, is it?Unspoken rules3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I think I need to re-explain a few things to make sure we're all on the same page.
About brentalfloss comics
I don't write it, I just draw it. Occasionally I'll have some artistic input, but outside that I generally follow the scripts tightly. Dan is in charge of writing, and he's been taking a lot of criticisms to heart lately. He's been experimenting with timing and panel layouts, and he's only going to get better as time goes on, but you've gotta give him time first. As a prime example: We haven't made a masterbation joke in almost a year, and that's entirely from the feedback we were getting. We are listening, it just takes time.

Play on hard mode and try to defend a town from Zombie attacks (also fun on normal mode, though you won't have the threat of monsters breaking down doors).
With the new lighting mechanics, make a small room underground with lamps in the ceiling. Rig them to a switch outside the room with a single door (no windows). Turn the switch off and plunge the room into total darkness. INSTANT ENEMY SPAWN LOCATION! Once monsters start pounding at the door, turn the lights on and open it and collect your experience points. Since creepers will also spawn, try to make a gutter for them to walk in so you can stay up high and kill from a distance.
Rig lamps on a powered cycle to have them spell out

Have you been to Paris?? If so what did you like the best, so far we went up the Eiffel Tower, went to the louvre, saw the musee d'orsay (another phenomenal museum) and went to montparnasse up this amazingly tall building and saw a great view of Paris.
I think the craziest thing is just how much famous and amazing artwork is here these people have painted murals that are just enormous and the detail is phenomenal. It's really crazy to think how long these pieces must have taken and that the kind of mastery of these classic artists doesn't really exist the same way anymore of course there are phenomenal artists now but this is something so different its a view every artist should see, a city every artist needs to visit.

Predictions + Wii-U infoOn Announcing New ConsolesPredictions + Wii-U info3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is how it always goes. You announce your console at E3, then the following E3 you set a release date and it comes out. Since neither Microsoft or Sony announced a new console that means the earliest they will will be E3 2013 and the earliest still that the 720 and Ps4 will be released to the home market will be 2014.
Also it should be pointed out that the Ps4 will not be a power house. Sony has already confirmed that they aren't going to make the Ps4 a beast of a machine, having learned their lesson from the Ps3 which was too expensive at launch and wasn't able to compete against the Wii's price point and the 360's head start. Besides, at this point, graphics can only go so far and instead newer ways to play are what are going to decide the fate of the next gen console systems (as the Wii-U is already showcasing).
Microsoft has already confirmed as well that an updated Kinect device will be part of their next consoles too, so it's unlikely that th
Never laugh at beginners, part 2Now let's talk about the pictures. I drew a lot and with great joy. At this level, which is available in 13/11/10 years. I drew no better than most beginners can see for yourself. These "masterpieces" swamped the Internet. Above them are laughing, they are criticized. And if the young author strongly respond to "fair criticism", it does hunt down.Never laugh at beginners, part 23 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, I repeat: the criticism, which is not requested, no one needs. If the author had not asked to point out the flaws, do not do that. Otherwise, it does not help the artist, but satisfaction with their own ambitions.
I love my old job. I still tear anyone say a bad word about them. This is my childhood, my past, my roots. These are memories, stories, experiences. This is - alive and expensive. Does this mean that I do not understand their technical imperfections? Of course not. I see. Does this mean that I do not want to improve? Of course not. You can see how much technology has changed over the years. Not because of criticism, but by love

You can find more information here in my store http://syacartoonist.com/shop/anthology-book1 where you can also view sample pages. The book is going for $16.25 and should be ready around the beginning of May (I don't have an exact date yet, sorry).

SNIPPY: QUESTIONABLE REALITYI definitely thought about killing Captain, especially after several pranks that were pulled on me like that time when I woke up with a bucket super-glued to my head and declared "iron man".SNIPPY: QUESTIONABLE REALITY3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Or that time when Captain made a soup out of my gas mask filters because the broth needed the "Smooth flavour of Snippy" and salt wasn't available... so I had to roam the decaying shopping malls for a new pair.
Or that time when Captain pushed me into a watery abyss inside a wooden barrel to celebrate "Niagara falls day".
Have my thoughts become so compounded as to finally cause schizophrenia?
...Am I a stone throw away from becoming like Pilot, talking to pet rocks and building the Bastion of Captania out of rotting shoe boxes?
And if I were to kill Captain who would I have left?
I must have been talking out loud like those crazy hobos that lived outside the protectorate dome that communicated with radioactive rain clouds via conversations of interpretive dance, until they were consumed by a famil

I KNOW, YOU THINK IT'S OKAY, THE UNIVERSE IS INFINITE, AND YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST IGNORE THIS ISSUE IN HOPES THAT IT WILL GO AWAY.
HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO MY CALCULATIONS, THE END OF THE UNIVERSE IS INEVITABLE AND WE HAVE ONLY 60 CYCLES LEFT AT BEST, MAYBE 80 UNTIL OUR UNIVERSE CEASES TO EXIST ENTIRELY, IT'S ENERGY PERMANENTLY SHIFTING INTO ANOTHER STATE OF EXISTENCE.

My neurons tingled, misfiring.
Was it numbing the pain of being compressed into a hexagonal cocoon that pressed tighter and tighter?
No, it was showing me what it could see and feel, what my limited human vision could not.
The aggregate virus bore into my body, feasting on my cells, borrowing me to expand itself, yet it did not take over completely.
I was here, no I was out there, I was a hundred trillion cells and they were ALL suddenly under my control.
It seems that our relationship status has been upgraded from "master controller/slave drive" to an "unlicensed symbiosis".
The Biomatrix served as my new eyes, letting me peer through my own skin, bones, flesh and organs, through my fireproof jacket, through the web of intertwining lights that bound us in a stasis field, through the thick, crystalline walls of the Arbitrator's spacecraft.

Are they actually plotting to kill captain?
Did they dispose of... Pilot?
Who are they?
Why have they taken the forms of mug, straw and ladybug?
Why can I hear them?
Has the fabric of my reality completely unraveled itself?
Have I gone mad?
Surely, there is a sensible explanation for all of this.
I bet Captain recorded these voices with Pilot just to mess with my head using an audio-player and hid it in the floorboards.
Indeed! That must be it! How gullible of me...
