Willora is a sacred hidden place that is located in a remote area on Earth. No humans are yet aware of its presence. It was not originally a place on Earth, but a small planet far from it. The Langurhali did not yet exist, only the tree and a few unknown creatures.
The planet was an absolute good, harmonious and perfect in its environment, with creatures that coexisted together and knew nothing of violence or danger, there was never any bad weather and no carnivores to speak of. Willora was efficient, flourishing, peaceful, and far ahead of Earth, while also being very similar to the very beginning of its existence. Though, unlike Earth, its creatures only grew more intelligent and aware of the importance of selflessness, preservation and peace.
The giant Willow was the first plant to grow on this planet, and thus was the oldest, largest and strongest tree. The giant star is said to have provided a kind of energy that cannot be found on Earth; a kind of life energy which gives

The Valley of the DynasaursI've recently been reading these literally unbelievable accounts, most from the late 19th to mid-20th century, of actual dinosaurs being sighted in the American Southwest, with a few reports from even further north and east in the continental U.S. There are a couple of things that strike me about these stories--I mean, first and foremost their utter improbability and the apparent sincerity of some of the witnesses (yellow journalism tall tales notwithstanding)--but also the fact that the descriptions of the dinosaurs are often so bizarre and so at odds even with contemporaneously appropriate conceptions of "actual" dinosaurs. In the same way that encounters with UFOs and their occupants often reflect a very stereotypical, cinematic or pop-cultural image of "space aliens" and their "flying saucers," the American dinosaur accounts reflect an earnestly naïve image of dinosaurs ingrained in pre-Jurassic Park pop culture--that they are cold-blooded reptilian moThe Valley of the Dynasaurs2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Female VillainsAs you probably already know, I really like villain characters, but it sort of makes me sad how often female villains seem like they have this rule where it's like they're required to be ~*sexy*~ first and then villains second. Or they have to be voluptuous or seductive femme fatales first and foremost and then be evil and cunning second (the level of evil and cunning really depending on the character, but still). Having a "sexy" female villainess isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the fact it's so much more prevalent with females as opposed to males and feels more like this unwritten rule and obligatory mold for them still disappoints me. I notice a lot in superhero comics the villainesses will be far more likely (if not always) wearing something far sexier or revealing as opposed to the males, and even then they'll have the same cut-n-paste sexy body type (and sometimes even the same face shapes, eye, and lip shapes) while the males are usually more clothed and meant to have tFemale Villains4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Or: How Spec-Lit Fucked Up A Perfectly Good Word.
Punk 'til you puke!
As a youth revolution punk was a solid fist full of fuck you! An angry, ugly, straight razor attack on the bloated excess of 1970's pop culture.
There was punk rock music from the likes of The Sex Pistols, Black Flag, and The Dead Kennedys.
There was punk cinema in films such as Repoman, Suburbia, and The Fabulous Stains.
There was punk lit, punk art, even a punk offshoot of gonzo journalism.
It was a way of life fueled by a belief that nothing is sacred, authority is never to be trusted, and most importantly, you can always Do It Yourself...better known as the DIY ethos.
In a word, punk is rebellion.
And I know a bit about words. Word have power. Word have strength. Words are the bits of

Daily Deviation + Educational Rant :)Second time it's happened in my 7 years on dA! And I'm so glad it was on this: http://v-e-r-a.deviantart.com/art/New-Skin-213386740 because it gave me the opportunity to link to photos and educate people a bit on roaches, which is like, my goal in life, for anyone who knows me. They're so misunderstood and misrepresented. I used to be a bit scared by them through my teens, but to show how drastically that's changed since simply educating myself on them, I now proudly display a tattoo of a roach: http://penanggalan.deviantart.com/art/Purple-Cockroach-Monster-150457055 It's now and will always be my favorite feature. I've dealt with some horrible crap because of my love of roaches, so pardon the incoming vent. Especially since the hissing cockroach birth video (as seen HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhOGQINu0lk ), I've received daily death threats, people saying I'm a "filthy slut" and "pr
Back to Basics Photography - Understanding RawdSLR cameras and most bridge cameras have the option to shoot in raw, but what exactly is it and what are the benefits? Let me attempt to explain.Back to Basics Photography - Understanding Raw3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
A camera raw file contains all the data that is captured when the shutter button is pressed whereas a JPEG is compressed and a lot of the data is lost. They are often called digital negatives as they serve the same purpose as the negatives in film photography; they are not ready to be used as the final image, but hold all the information and data needed to produce one. This all means that you are left with a higher image quality which also allows you to have more control and manipulate more parameters than a JPEG. All of the metadata is also still in tact, meaning that the original state can always be referred back to if needed.
So, surely you want to see the difference, right? Well you're in luck.
Top - straight out of camera (SOOC) raw. Bottom - basic adjustments done in LightRoom raw.

Photomanips for BeginnersWhat is a photomanipulation?Photomanips for Beginners5 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Photomanipulations are images that have been composed of two or more photographic elements to create something new.
This is what the gallery description states. But what does it mean?
It means that a photomanipulation is based on photographs.
Not sketches scanned in (like line art for example) or screenshots from a video game. However, if you scan a photograph or for example dried flowers, it would be considered a photograph; while a photograph taken of line art still remains a sketch and is not consiered a photograph. Video game screenshots are copyrighted images btw and as such cannot be used at all.
It means that you need to use more than one photograph.
Retouching work as well as work that uses brushes or texture overlays only to "spice up" a photo that was taken by yourself(!) should be submitted to Photography > Darkroom, while work that uses stock images (i.e. images that you did not take yourself) should be

PET PEEVEI see a lot of artists or even non-artists that put themselves down. Constantly.PET PEEVE4 years ago in Personal More Like This
As an artist, one of the worst things you can say to me is "Wow, I could never do this! I'm gonna quit art now 8(((("
I've probably guilty of saying that exact same thing at some point! And multiple times, too! But I stopped, because what does saying that even do, really?
That is not a compliment. It makes me feel bad that my work has made you want to stop doing something. You know how I got to the point I am at now? I got past those feelings, got past my self-depreciation, and worked my ass off.
Art is not all fun and games. It can be, but it's also something that I have dedicated myself to for years. I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil- at currently 18 years old, that's a while. Not as long as other, much older, artists, but I'm still improving. We all still are. That artist you look up to? He or she is still learning. Drawing is a constant development process: it never ends. Ever.

But what I really wanted to do (and I can't resist XD) is to show you guys what comes after Ae-ngeli. But Lince, why did you start another project if you didn't even finish your first one? Because I can! yeeee

My guide to making photomanipulations V2.0It's been a while since I wrote my first guide to photomanips and since then, I've employed a few different techniques in my latest works. I don't have a proper tutorial with screenshots of each step, but here are the steps I generally follow to create my photomanips (I use Adobe Photoshop CS6):My guide to making photomanipulations V2.01 year ago in Personal More Like This
Get a photo of someone you want to manipulate and once you have that, start looking through the stock photos and photography sections for a photo of an animal, but make sure that the lighting conditions and angle that the photo is taken at are similar in both photos. You may need to use more than one photo and take elements of each for different areas of the face/body. Always make sure you read the rules for the stock photos or get permission if the photo isn't stock photography and ALWAYS give credit to your sources. See below for good places to find source images.
Copy the animal's face onto the model's face and lower the opacity of the layer
F**k-ugly watermarks.I follow a lot of insanely talented artists here on DA, people whose work I look at in sheer awe and whose skill I can only dream of one day matching.F**k-ugly watermarks.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Unsurprisingly, that high quality of work leads to them either having their work ripped off or operating in fear of that happening. They, quite rightly, want to protect their art with a watermark, something which I'm not against at all.
What I am against, what I hate, is people using that god-awful DA watermark.
If you are a good artist: don't be a lazy git. Make your own watermark, use your own logo. You'll protect your work without doing it the disservice of having some automatically-generated arse-smear ruining it.

So, if you want to play along, say what character you wish to query, followed by the question.
I (or "they", depending on how you look at it) obviously won't get to answer everything, and questions that require an answer to contain narrative spoilers won't be touched.
