It seems the Force has truly Awoken, at least it has here on DeviantArt.
It has been one week since the teaser trailer for the first of the Disney owned Star Wars movies was released. Twitter and Facebook nearly broke under the deluge of postings of the trailer and frame by frame commentary of it. Each commentator hoping to spot something everyone else had missed.

Why is Fanfiction Considered Bad?Why is Fanfiction Considered "Bad"?Why is Fanfiction Considered Bad?6 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Despite their frustrating nature to many, the fact is that stereotypes almost always have a grain of truth at their center. A stereotype is a generalization, and a generalization would not exist if there wasn't some evidence supporting it. The generalizations about fanfiction is that they're typically unoriginal and poorly-written by pre-teens and teens who can't take criticism and think they're awesome. And while there are many brilliant fanfiction writers out there, the truth is the stereotype has much more evidence than they would like to be taken seriously. There are a lot of very poorly-written and unoriginal fanfics out there.
But the question is, why fanfiction? Why is it that this piece of creative expression in particular finds itself with such a massive portion of rough compared to diamond?
The first is the fact that not everyone takes to writing and creating naturally. Some people do it really well by instinct, creating stories that flow a

25,000 die from hunger every day, a million is withering away in prisons due to the war on drugs for victimless crimes, human rights violations abound, preventable disease and lack of clean water is killing millions per year, banking cartels immune from prosecution are stealing trillions, drones are blowing up children in half, etc, etc..
Fuck all that, right? The media didn't tell you to care. Take the red pill, friends, and walk away. Keep your mind under your own control. This is not a lack of compassion the three fellow human beings who tragically lost their lives today. It's a lack of respect for those who use every marketable tragedy to further their ends and profits. I

The least important, but worth a mention. Honestly, I think the graphics were a testament to how rushed out this game really was. They were a downgrade from RE5. Most objects and side characters were angular, while any close-ups just looked terribly grainy.
I still face-palm every time I see
America: The ideaPersonally, I enjoy the hate revolving around America, nowadays. I rather like the image that most people have made the common American man. An overweight, middle aged, white guy. At least if that, if it were true that every American was indeed that stereotype, things would be simple. If everyone in America, or any nation, for that matter, put aside their personal beliefs, and worked towards a goal larger than themselves, like other great nations before us, we could achieve so much more.America: The idea1 year ago in Personal More Like This
However that's not the case. The title 'American' doesn't just extend to one culture, race, gender, or religion. Not in my opinion, anyway. America, in reality, is a mixing pot of different cultures from around the world. Indeed, America's past has shown White, christian dominance over every other culture, for three centuries, and quite frankly, that's what carried us through World War 2, but thanks to growing tolerance, and the liberties bestowed by the Founding Fathers of the United States, other cul

DeviantArts (DA) is probably unique in several ways, but the thing that I've found strangest and have had the most difficulty with grappling with is their tolerance(?) of "rips". Which is why I think this could be an interesting discussion.
"Rips" are models taken from commercial computer and video games and used for "something else". Make no mistakes about it, probably 99.99% of rips are illegal in the sense that they were "stolen" from something else. Which, given the existence of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), makes it kind of strange that DA tolerates any rips on their servers at all. May be they really do deserve the kind of reputation that they receive on other forums on the Internet, or they just aren't making enough money to be worth the bother to sue. Who knows? The fact remains is that at the moment DA seems to be a safe haven for rippers and nowhere are they perhaps more visible than in the MMD field.
Then again, there's ano

Unfortunately I use to be a person who has SO intense and vivid dreams (and really bad ones). One day this played a dirty trick on me:
I left my cell phone on my bedside table as usual and went to sleep because next day I had an exam at 9:00 a.m.
It seems I was that obsessed and nervous about my exam that I dreamt my best uni friend phoned me at 8:00 a.m. or so to tell me I must not forget that our "Preventive Medicine III" teacher postponed the exam one hour later.
Ok, I just believed that dream.
My alarm clock rang and I totally passed. I slept 45 mins more. Now imagine my face when I went to uni by bus one hour later and saw all my classmates coming out of the classroom rather than entering it :iconaloneplz:
Just then I understood all.
I just wanted to leave this world.
Left 4 Delirium Left 4 Delirium - Episode 1Left 4 Delirium2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
The first episode is finally done! Left 4 Delirium is basically a crazy compilation of the antics me and the Lady face while playing L4D2. While there's a lot of videos with the same or similar set-up, we've tried adding some stuff to make it unique and stupidly hilarious. Keep an ear out for some subtle bot dialogue!
This is episode 1 of what will hopefully be a whole series of crazy videos. We're already planning what levels to do, how to get a better video and sound quality, and what horrible stuff to do to the bots next. You'll have to forgive the pixelatedness of the first video, we're hoping to improve that, as well as difficulty level later on too. Any tips or advice are welcomed.
Enjoy the show!
BullyingA teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take out a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stomp on it and really mess it up, not to rip it. Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty it was. She then told them to tell it they're sorry. Now, even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bullies another child, they may say they're sorry, but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home. Copy and paste this if you are against bullying.Bullying3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Star Wars: Imperial Commando
The sequel to Star Wars: Republic Commando. I would like it if the story continued on during the Imperial Period where Boss, Scorch, Fixer, and the new guy(who replaced poor Sev) hunt down Jedi who escaped Order 66, as well as the people who help the Jedi and have no love for the Empire. I'd also like it if LucasArts would make the multiplayer a bit more entertaining than Republic Commando's multiplayer which felt very simple.

How to Write Helpful Critiques/ FeedbackNow that I have been looking at several literature pieces a week, there aren't a whole lot of comments that provide the writers with feedback. So here's a guide that I thought might be useful for some people on how to provide helpful feedback and critiques. How to Write Helpful Critiques/ Feedback6 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
Before I begin, I would like to say that I have been a part of a wonderful writing group for the past four years. The writing club is where I first learned how to do a critique. I have also been taught some critique techniques during my college studies. In addition to the writing club and college classes, I have been doing my best to leave helpful feedback and critiques here on deviantART. This guide is based entirely off of my personal experience. As I think of more tips, I will be editing this guide.

Thoughts on developing a good styleA common question I get asked is how to develop a good style.Thoughts on developing a good style4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Here are some of my thoughts on this subject...
Don't think what kind of style do people want. Just be yourself & search for knowledge. Style is developed through knowledge.
Just painting or drawing how you naturally do is not enough to develop a good solid style. If art is an interpretation of something we can relate to LIFE, then you have to learn about the different aspects of LIFE to get better at art. Nothing is sadder than seeing an artist with a great idea but doesn't have the knowledge or skill to make it happen the way they had initially envisioned it. I still have this problem from time to time so I search for the knowledge and know how to make the idea I initially had to appear the way I want it to.
Your ideas are what makes you unique. Once you have the idea, you search for the knowledge to make those ideas happen the way you envisioned it. I don't know about all of you but I can bet that when most of you learn s

From 2009 to 2013 I went on hiatus from Youtube. There were a few reasons for this happening; One of the major factors being a hard-drive crash which wiped nearly all of my REMusical base content. It took a long time for me embrace the change and seeing it as a way to improve myself. I also had my college art projects and studies to focus on during that time.
However, there was another reason I needed a break that I wasn't very vocal about. Truth was, I felt the Youtube community surrounding my videos had become excessively negative over time. What started out as something simple and fun had slowly t

Lately I've been reading various discussions across multiple Resident Evil fan forums. Coupling this with articles about the current status of video games and the people who play them, I've slowly been coming to a few realizations.
Nowadays there's such a stigma against modern gamers, the majority are seen as a bunch of entitled whiners. I couldn't help but feel as I read these articles and opinions, I matched a lot of this "entitledness" and whatnot. I've always been pretty opinionated about my views on games, particularly the newer Resident Evil games... But looking back on it all, I guess I have t

1. Selling yourself as a beginner
I found a prime example of this in a forum for artists seeking work. The thread title was „Starting-out artist looking for a chance",, and the thread told that the artist is „looking for a client for whom I may draw" and has „just graduated from art college".
We all were at this point once, but usually it takes too long to realize that „beginner" is the wrong mindset, even if you are one. Such statements sound like excuses and are guaranteed to weaken your position. Don't make excuses. Do not justify your work, and do not justify your prices. This is a tricky habit to acquire since we're not very confident by nature, but remember the image you wan
Morrowind FeatureMorrowind Feature3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind is my favourite game of all time, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been planning for awhile to put together a game-inspired feature; unfortunately, it is very hard to find genuine fan art since most Morrowind-related deviations on dA are game screenshots (or manipulations thereof), and I found only a limited number of devs I could use.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Morrowind is an open-ended first-person RPG with an expansive and detailed world, released in 2002. The central plot concerns the deity Dagoth Ur, housed within the volcanic Red Mountain, who seeks to gain power and break Morrowind free from Imperial reign. In addition to the extensive main quest, there are detailed discursive quests for a variety of factions, including various guilds, religious organizations, and aristocratic houses.
Lord Voryn Dagoth had been a good friend of Lord Indoril Nerevar, but they tu
My most hated Star Wars changesWhenever George Lucas re-releases the Star Wars movies, he usually adds or changes scenes from parts of the movies which infuriates most fans. I don't support his changes either, but some of them fix continuity errors which I can understand. Here is my list of most hated changes from the re-releases.My most hated Star Wars changes2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Star Wars: A New Hope-Obi-Wan's Krayt Dragon call
Both the 1977 and 2004 versions of Obi-Wans scream sound similar, but the 2011 Blu-ray re-release sounds WAY too different. He sounds "like a gay man stepping on a lego". I don't really get that quote's logic but I really don't like his new scream.
Star Wars: A New Hope-Greedo shoots first
I HATE this change. In the 1977 theatrical release, Han Solo and Greedo have a conversation and all of a sudden Han shoots Greedo in cold blood. Then, George Lucas changed that in the 1997 theatrical re-release and made Greedo shoot first. His reason for this was to make Han seem more like a hero for younger viewers. Seriously, why change that? Han was su
