Secret to Success: Draw with your balls outHappy new ears my brothers and sisters. I hope you had a good break, but now its time to get back to work! And Ry here has a pro tip for you, something I have kept to myself but I think you as an artist should know about and adapt this habit. Its actually not that complicated, you should just always Draw with your balls out.Secret to Success: Draw with your balls out2 years ago in Personal More Like This
A wise man by the name of John Rambo once told us that we should 'Stay ballsy'. We should not let our fear overtake us, we should dive head in into obstacles and fight the demons without fear and without worries. Well I have taken that approach and incorporated it into my drawing, believe it or not I have never been confident about my artworks, even if it is something I spent 24 hours on I still have doubt whether its good enough to show or not, especially when it is for work and I know I am being judged on.. thats why it always takes so long for me to finish an art piece because I keep looking at it and try to fix stuff that probably no one would ever notic
Support Vader, the pet fox wrongfully euthanizedHello friends and fans, today I come to you with heartbreaking news. Vader was a pet fox who I followed closely in the exotic pet community and on Tumblr. His owners were Tara and Eric, and they run a blog ( http://maythefoxbewithyou.tumblr.com ) all about their adventures raising a fox. Vader was an incredibly sweet, friendly animal who was specifically bred to live as a companion. He wasn't a wild animal. He wagged his tail to greet people and even got along swimmingly with other dogs and lived alongside a chihuahua named Athena. This was not a vicious animal.Support Vader, the pet fox wrongfully euthanized1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Tara has received untold amounts of anonymous hate from social justice warriors and animal rights activists. People claiming her fox was some abomination and should be released, despite the fact that if she released Vader into the wild he would die either from starvation or from approaching the wrong humans and

We're sponsoring Artists' Alley 2012!
We're headed to Comic-Con International:
San Diego to sponsor Artists' Alley!
We Love Artists' Alley
We're back at Comic-Con!
Last year, our sponsorship of Artists' Alley was a huge success. We were able to provide a more comfortable environment for the artists, display their art on huge screens over the Alley, and let people attending the convention draw with deviantART muro on fantastic digital screens. We plan to do this and more in 2012 as we take on the great pleasure of sponsoring Artists' Alley at San Diego Comic-C
YOUNG JUSTICE: CANCELLATIONWith this online art community, we have a unique opportunity to connect with our kindred. We must avail ourselves of this experience, for it may never come again.YOUNG JUSTICE: CANCELLATION2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yes, YOUNG JUSTICE fans, the sad news is now official. This very popular show will -- Reach-- its abrupt and premature end with the conclusion of Season Two. It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the reports. Of course, none of us was able to say anything about it since last year. It was a very fun ride. As for the reasons behind the cancellation, I can only say that it was beyond the control of WB Animation, and that the decision was made by the powers at Cartoon Network (bless 'em). On behalf of the producers, and the rest of our dedicated crew at YOUNG JUSTICE, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the loyal fans who supported us, who shared the dream with us, and who will continue to love the YOUNG JUSTICE universe

I find myself beautiful. I like the way I look... I like the way I look when I first wake up in the morning, I like the way I look when I'm too lazy to shave, I like the way I look when I can't be fucked to put on any make-up (most days.), I like the way I look when I feel like dressing up, I like the way I look when I smile, I like the way I look when I'm sad.
I don't look conventional. I've received a lot of negativity my entire life for this. That's fine. I'm accustomed to it.
I don't do any of this, to please any of you. Some of you like it, and that's wonderful, but it's never been, and wont ever be for you.
Something important to remember, is that you can't please other people in this world, and if you manage to please yourself, you should be happy with that. Because we're our own worst critics, because we know ourselves the best.
If you're scared to be you, because someone has shamed you, and indicated that who you want to be is

Tracing and EmulationAfter reading through the comments in my previous journal, I feel the need to clarify a couple of things.Tracing and Emulation3 months ago in Personal More Like This
First: Tracing. Does. Not. Help. You. Improve. Your. Art.
Never has, never will and you’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
Second: Emulation is not tracing. People seem to be having trouble telling the difference.
Tracing does not teach you anything because all you’re doing is copying the line work of an existing image. All the real work has already been done. You’re not learning how the image is constructed or discovering for yourself how to use your drawing tools to create the desired effect. You’d be better off just outright copy/pasting the base image and saving yourself the time.
Emulation on the other hand, be it simply trying to recreate an existing image by eye or (even better) going all out and trying to adopt an existing style, does improve your method. By “reverse engineering&

Before we get into the thick of things, we didn’t have a photo of our huge plasma screens hanging from the convention ceiling to share in our Day 1 recap, so we vowed to get that to you today! The 11 foot wide screens stream amazing works of art from Artists' Alley participants to the whole convention floor!
In Comic-Cons past, the foot traffic In Artists’ Alley got busier and busier as the week progressed, and this year is no exception. There’s something magical about speaking one-on-one with a deviant, learning their experiences, hearing how they started as an artist, and how far they’ve come. It’s an emotional connection to make with someone who was practically a stranger a few moments ago -- and then you realize you’re not really strangers when you

Every couple of years I manage to crawl out of my dungeon and rejoin the public world for a few hours. This time around the outing was very special as I visited one of my favorite local Las Vegas comic shops. Alternate Reality Comics hosted a lovely reception for me as the feature artist of their October 2012 Artist Spotlight.

An Important UpdateSome of you may be wondering why the newest strip is titled "JL8 #67."An Important Update2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The title "Little League" actually infringes on existing trademark, and I've been asked to re-title the strip, which I'm doing. It is now going to be titled "JL8." That being said, I have until Aug. 31st to also change the name of the Facebook and Tumblr pages. Fortunately, Tumblr allows a pretty easy switch, but I'll also have to change the URL. This is important because I know a lot of my readers have the current page bookmarked. On Sept. 1, that bookmark will no longer work, as the original page won't exist. If you'd all be so kind as to bookmark the URL:
That will be where the site is hosted beginning Sept. 1. I plan on reminding everyone with each update leading up to that date, but I recommend just bookmarking it now. There's nothing there yet, but next Thursday this page will pop up there.
As for the Facebook page, I've begun transitioning fans away from the current "Little League"
A Shooting in AuroraLate last night, a lone gunman went on a killing spree in a movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado.A Shooting in Aurora3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At least 12 people were murdered, and many more were wounded; some of them are in critical condition.
If you are a spiritual person, please say a prayer for the dead, the dying, and those living touched by this tragedy.
If you are not a spiritual person, any happy thoughts or kind gestures would surely be appreciated.
Please refrain from any speculation, politicization, rumor-mongering, conclusion-jumping, finger-pointing, and other similarly inappropriate behavior for just a little while, if possible. It hasn't even been 12 hours since the tragedy took place, and that sort of unproductive demagoguery is already being handled nicely by the 24-hour news venues.
Real tragedies like this happen, all over the world, and our responsibility to our fellow man is to render aid & support, be it large or small, in times of crisis.

maybe you're all thumbs when it comes to photoshop
maybe you have some 4th different problem?

What do you need help with RIGHT NOW?
What road blocks are stopping you from exploding your potential?

As a community, we seem to be having more and more notes and birthdays to cover! We're very happy about this! We love all the new members we receive! What this means, however, is we are once again looking to expand the team! The method has change slightly so be sure to read through carefully!
Things to consider before applying
How active are you on dA? Are you on the site nearly every day? We need someone that is around quite often. To begin with at least, you will only be responsible for one day of the week; however, you may be needed to cover other team members if they cannot do their day due to feeling unwell, going away, and so on.
Also, how involved are you within the dA community? We're ideally looking for someone that has a passion for the community and likes to get involved.
Personality matters. You will need to have a good attitude towards deviants you interact with. A friendly and helpful nature is a must. You also need

Who is Danbo? It's a carboard box robot made of plastic. He can move his head, arms and legs and his eyes can give light by turning on a switch. (see my pictures below)
What you have to do is:
Add this journal to your favourites so I know that you're in!

I'll send this 3 INCH tall Danbo in his original package to your address if you are chosen.

7 Tips To Instantly Become A Better ArtistPractice, practice, practice. Gah.7 Tips To Instantly Become A Better Artist3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Attend life drawing classes over the summer. Blegh.
Take a sketchbook with you everywhere you go, and fill up ten of those bad boys at the coffee shop. Pfft.
Let's be honest here. We all want to become better artists, like, right frickin' now. We don't even want to have to suffer through hour-long tutorials of some pompous snooty hack bloviating over the intricate methods of drawing eyes on YouTube. We want progress, we want improvement, and we want it on our desk in ten minutes ago!
Fine, fine, I hear ya'. While these aren't going to make an instant Leonardo da Vinci out of you, these might get you up to...ehh...Basquiat caliber. Sure, I've made tutorials, but those are more about setting up Photoshop for the sake of coloring an image, and not so much building yourself artistically. Those are more technical lessons. Artistically
