Sanity is very rare: every man almost, and every woman, has a dash of madness. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
The phenomenon was paradoxical, in a sense. He was on the qui vive as he made his way down the apparently vacant street, with his eyes snapping at every indication of movement, with fingers delving deeper into his pants pockets, with lips curling, teeth nibbling at available skin. Yet, he felt no fear, for internally, he was rather sanguine; the outward, cowardly nebbish he presented to incoming strangers was false, and rightly so (the behavior coincidentally mimicked Jervis Tetch; he made no motion to acknowledge the impulsive correlation). How on earth could he let himself become paralyzed by the intimidation of others? The figures he spotted quaking in nearby alleywaysthey knew who he was, no doubtwould do him no harm, so long as he kept on his way. He was head

The lights were low in the central control room of the Watchtower and when the doors slid shut behind Wonder Woman she did not stray more than a step or two from them as her eyes found that one lonely figure sitting at the main console. A familiar creeping began in her stomach and she drew a calming breath. She feared almost nothing, but this was a conversation she had hidden from for almost two decades. Finally striding forward, her steps were as confident as she could manage and she was able to control the shaking of her knees very well. It was not a long walk, but it sure seemed to take forever.
Finally reaching the occupied chair, she grasped it with one hand, the console with the other as she looked to the large view screen that was right in front of the man who worked the controls. Silence thickened the air around them and the tension mounted.
"Quiet night?" she finally fo

He was just a squirrel. He chewed nervously on the pine nut in his cheek. It wasn't his fault. Whatever it was.
But the world had completely changed. First there were the loud blows, and the tree shuddering, and the fall. He'd scrambled to keep a grip. Then there'd been the galumphing, and jostling, and needles raining down everywhere.
Then the world had changed. The bright winter sunlight had been turned to mellow gold. The clear blue sky gleamed bronze.
He felt the tree quaver and tilt upright. He scrambled to keep his purchase. Loud booming voices argued. The air hummed and thrummed like a live thing.
He hyperventilated. His furry chest rising and falling fast, his heart beating like a ball bearing. He gulped and held onto the bole, eyes flickering.
A vine slithered in through the branches, huge, horizontal, advancing toward him like a sidewinding boa constrictor. He eeped and jumped up to the next branch. The vine

An end that resembles no other
And faith in us and each other
In order to claim what is rightfully ours
Well climb, be bruised, in order to caress the stars
One and only in which I confide
Guardian to what lies
I wish to divulge what is hidden
Uncover all that may be forbidden
Grey, blue, amber skies
To merge into what Id want to be like
Limitless and infinite
You deserve to be more
To obtain the light, and to hide it from others
In order to give it what I judge to be better
In order to adorn it in what I judge to be bitter
Sweet and sour
Into what Id like to see this hour
To rise above limitations and what you expect
To regain control and to dare to forget
What I was taught, what they taught you too
That our limits stood where they wanted you
To stand, to hold ground on what we were given
To forget that that we could change and be forgiven
That what we were told was not set in stone
The Pomegranate SeedsThe Greek Olympians were always famous for their myths from the scandalous love affairs of Aphrodite and Zeus to the inferno vengeful rages of Hera and Artemis, however no tale is greater nor more intriguing than the tale of Hades and Persephone. The Pomegranate Seeds3 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Hades, the shadowy Lord of the Underworld was never a social god, neither was he a god who enjoyed the warm golden rays of the sunlight and the melodic sounds of laughter and cheer. Granted this could be due to the fact that after he and his brothers drew lots to see who would rule which domain he was settled with the Underworld after which he rarely took absence due to looking after the deceased and the happenings of Tartarus and the Elysian fields.
Spending many millennia ruling the Underworld with only the company of Cerbus, his three-headed guard dog, Hades began to grow lonely before falling into a depression he was in need of company, someone to talk to or to love perhaps?
Deciding that he had enough of brooding for one day the sha

I wiped my sweaty palms on my pants-leg. After the ill-fated Deep Roads expedition, I'd bought the Hawke estate and left my companions to their own devices for a few weeks, but I'd needed backup to go prowling in Lowtown after dark. Isabela came along, and it seemed that with her memory jolted the beautiful pirate wanted more.
"So this is where you live. Not bad," Isabela conceded, surveying the old manor. "I preferred the old place. It had... more charm."
I shook her head, wondering how Isabela's voice could be sultry and syrupy at the same time. It might have been the Rivain accent.
"You're talking about the shack I shared with my mother, uncle, and sister," I said disbelievingly

I really need to stay away from Youtube.
I was surfing the site the other night, and I came across Miranda's romance scenes, and with one watch, I was hooked.
I've always found Miranda to be an interesting character, seeing her go from a cold Cerberus loyalist, seeing her being a caring big sister and her doubts about herself, to eventually resigning from Cerberus when The Illusive Man wants Shepard to keep the Collector base.
So The Miranda Chronicles were born.
The same deal as the other two series applies here, only the main couple is my other main male Shepard, Xavier and his XO.
I'll distinguish these spin-off stories with 'TMC' in front of the story title.
I hope you guys enjoy these stories as much as yo

Laira Hawke groaned as she rolled over and tapped the off button on her alarm clock. She stretched and literally rolled out of her bed, plopping on the floor. She sat there in a sleepy daze, staring off into space. She then proceeded to shake her head as a wet dog shakes itself to dry off. She hopped up and began her morning routine.
After showering, doing her hair and makeup, brushing her teeth, and about twenty minutes of picking out just the right outfit to wear, she was ready for her first day at her new high school. She walked down the staircase toward the kitchen where the rest of her family sat eating breakfast. The rest of my family except Bethany. She thought with tears in her eyes. She tried to keep her mind off of the events that had caused her sister's death and forced her family to move. There was no need to be upset on the first day of school.
As she entered the kitchen, she coul

"Look, salarian..." The enormous krogan steps close to the scientist, towering over him. "I've been thinking." Somehow Grunt seems ill at ease. At least his body language indicates this.
"I see." He returns to his omni-tool to install the upgrade Shepard so generously provided for. The krogan is obviously not going to attack him. "Have you come to any specific conclusion?"
Grunt nods gravely. "My tank has showed me much. We were going crazy, destroying our own planet... The genophage may not have been so bad."
"Unexpected." The salarian scientist ceases his work again, to look at his visitor. What happens next is even more unexpec

The look in her eyes was bleak as she glanced at him, her hands already working at the bun atop her head, letting the tresses fall and act like a curtain to hide her face as she strode to the elevator and disappeared behind its sliding doors. That wasn't like her. Debating with himself, he stood and started down the gangway in the direction she had taken.

I awoke the next morning to find a sign next to my bed.
"Sorry about that." I was confused, did Herobrine control the blocks? Or did he do something else? I broke the sign and placed another, eve

I cursed and continued firing, providing covering fire for Shepard's turian friend. "Damn shield", I muttered quietly.
Finally, my shield was slowly recharging but a stinging pain hit me. I gulped and my black hair swooshed in front of me. Unconsciously my hand covered the wound. I bit my lip in pain and looked up to see Shepard staring at me. "It's fine Commander. It's fine..." Shepard gave me a small smile that said more than it meant. I sli

Part One: Your Syntax Has Been Eaten A Grue
The term 'syntax' pertains to the rules of grammar and sentence construction in any given language.
I'm starting this series with a discussion of problematic syntax because passively constructed sentences and/or wrenched and unnatural sentence structure are the number one signpost which will identify a writer as having spent a lot of time in the RP world.
Wrenched or passive syntax is also the number one 'crime against fiction' committed by the average roleplayer while attempting to cross over into fiction writing.
I'll now explain the difference between the active and passive "voice" in sentences, and why active sentences are far more desirable in fiction.
An active sentence makes the subject of a sentence the focus of action. A passive sentence focuses instead on the verbs,

The dark had always scared Miranda. Not being able to see, it was the unknown that scared her when she was trapped in the dark. She always had a plan, she knew what she wanted and how to get it, the unknown scared her. She planned everything, analyzed everything. Yet for the first time in her life she had done something she had never expected to happen. She had fallen in love. She had fallen for Commander John Shepard, Savoir of the Citadel, Hero of Humanity. He was the most selfless, caring man she had ever met and she loved him but it scared her.
She had never been loved by anyone before or loved another. She had always been alone, isolated, careful to never get too close to people. She had never opened up to anyone, yet here she lay, staring at the ceiling of a room that most defiantly was not her own. It was Shepard's. She had spent all her n

The elevator seemed to be taking forever to reach the Crew Deck. Finally it reached Shepard's destination and he hurried out and into the med bay. The door opened to reveal Miranda lying on the bed, Dr.Chakwas and Mordin rushing round her.
"Shepard, I'm glad you're here," Dr.Chakwas said as he entered.

Part 3 Echolalia Jones and the Thesaurus of Doom
As we've seen, one of the most significant differences between RP and fiction is that RP is an interactive process. Aside from issues already discussed, there are several related aspects of writing styles in RP that can become problematic when employed in the realm of fiction.
The bulk of RP occurs within the context of a 'gameworld' or a pre-set environment into which player's characters are inserted. This can be anything from a fully represented reality with pre-created 'rooms' that a character moves through, simulating a real-world environment, to a loose arrangement of locations created according to need in a chat-based free form RP.
There's also, in most RPG environments, a strong sense of community among the players. Whether a player is a joiner

"Do you know who it is?" Shepard asked swinging his legs off the bed.
"The signature is that of the Alliances Operator Chief Ashley Williams"
"What?" Shepard asked in surprise "You must be mistaken"
"I am rarely wrong Shepard" EDI replied and Shepard sighed. He dressed quickly and looked at Miranda. If Ash wanted to pick up where they left off she would be disappointed. He wanted to take Miranda with him but decided against it, she didn't need any unnecessary stress at the moment. He stepped into the elevator and took it down to CIC.
"Good morning Commander" Kelly smiled from her panel.
"Morning Kelly" Shepard said stifling a yawn. "If anyone asks where I am, tell them I'm in the comm. room."

Part 6 "Where's Ruth?" Tom Cried, Ruthlessly
Throughout the rest of this series I've explored various 'roleplay-isms' which are fine in the RP environment but don't automatically translate well into fiction. This article deals specifically with 'attributions', which are the 'he said' / 'she said' part of dialogue.
It's a generally accepted practise in fiction writing to keep attributions in dialogue simple and to not overdo it with synonyms for the word 'said', like 'shouted', 'whined' and 'snarled'. This includes, for the purposes of this article, the addition of adverbs and other modifiers (words and phrases which 'flavour' a noun or verb) to 'said' - like 'he said wistfully', 'she said with a bitter tone'.
Among editors, the overuse of modifiers in attribution is known as "S.S." or "Synonym Syndrome" and is the cause of
