Voyage 2 of deviantART Starship to Comic-Con
July 20, 2011
NEW MISSION LOCATION:
San Diego Convention Center
NEW MISSION DATE:
July 11-15, 2012
Assessment of First Mission Success:
The thousands of Sojourners to Comic-Con had grown jaded and complacent over the years,
content to thrash about with the same old-same old battle plan once again like the drowsy
wizards and wookies they had become. Little did they know what our deviant plans had in store
for our virgin landing and takeover of Artists Alley!
Stunned and awed were they at the might of our artist alley powered video screens, Wacom
powered Art Creation Satellites, and the beauty of our interview vixens! The gauntlet we cast
down has yet to be properly picked up by the shaken powers that be!
Our satellites sent communications that went out to all those lovers of sci-fi, fantasy arts
and sciences worldwide, to arti
5 Comic Book Truths (that I don't think are true)There are lots of tips, chestnuts, and other pieces of advice that I've heard over the years--tidbits of wisdom passed on from one generation to the next, from professional to professor to prospective student. Some of them are drawing tips, some of them are tricks to dealing with publishers, and some are general guidelines on how to survive in comics. Most of them are useful and true and will stand the test of time, but a few of them have become hackneyed platitudes and have gone unquestioned for too long. Here are 5 that I'm questioning...5 Comic Book Truths (that I don't think are true)9 months ago in Personal More Like This
1. READERS WILL ONLY LOOK AT A PANEL FOR 5 SECONDS, SO DON'T SWEAT IT TOO MUCH.
I understand the intention of this bit of wisdom, and I mostly agree with it: drawing great interiors is important, but at the same time, you don't want to get bogged down with small details that most readers won't even notice.
But here's my concern with this: if you treat every panel like it's disposable, then you're less likely to make an impact with reader

A Naked New YearFor the record I welcomed 2013 in a proper dress but I did want to address my new fascination with nudity. For years I have been doing shots that have craftily avoided the visual of the "nether regions". Lately I have abandoned that rule and for good reason. It is my opinion that the female body is the most beautiful and incredible thing ever created. I dont see any shame in it and I believe in smashing down the old stereotypes that sex and sexuality is a dirty thing. I have been researching alot on what it is that defines the border between porn and art and I think it is about time that we ladies reclaimed our naughty bits from the dirtbags and the pornogrpahers who have taken sole, visual possession of them. I believe that nudity, full female nudity can be portrayed with elegance and artistry. I also believe that sexuality can be portrayed with absolute and utmost dignity and elegance. I realize that many people think that photos and visuals depicting things such as masturbation andA Naked New Year2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Obsolete InkingLately I've been doing work for DC Direct--the wing of DC in charge of statues, toys, etc. It's been a nice break from PRJ. The money is good, and it hasn't been soulless like I imagined. Corporate gigs can go either way--sometimes they want you to do exactly what "they" want, other times they want you to do your thing unencumbered. Luckily this was the latter.Obsolete Inking3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The rates for toy designs are broken down into three parts: you get paid for the sketches, the final pencils and the inks. For this gig, the inking rate was higher than my normal inking rate. It felt good, but then I realized that 25% of my fee was for inks. And it raised an unsettled concern that's been on my mind.
How long will inkers be needed?
In the old days they needed inkers because computers weren't yet being used in print. I forget the name of the machine that preceded the scanner (process cameras?), but it was low-tech enough that i

- Mark Brooks (diablo2003, from Marvel Comics)

A Pokemon Collaborative Project:iconexplosionplz: JOIN THE DEVIANTART GROUP HERE http://drunk-pokemon.deviantart.com/ :iconexplosionplz:A Pokemon Collaborative Project2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you've been following my work you may know I've drawn, and am in the process of drawing, all generations of Pokemon. You may also know that from the second generation on, I've been drawing them quite inebriated :icondrunkplz: This leads them to be crude, messy, and instead of acting as standalone pokemon comics they become insights into the mind of a drunk artist.
That brings us to the new project I would like to invite all artists to join, as long as they are above the legal drinking age of their country of residence: DRUNK POKEMONS :icondrinkplz: :iconohhellyeahplz:
1. You get drunk
2. You draw/paint/sculpt a new, non-existing Pokemon (or a "Fakemon" for short)
3. Another (drunk) person takes your Fakemon and gives it a name and type (other details optional)
4. Another (drunk) person takes this Fakemon and draws its evolution, including it's name and type

Illustrator Need For Paying Comic Book ProjectLooking for an illustrator for a comic book series that I'm writing called "Night Wolf." So far I have 12 issues written. An artist who can do both illustration and coloring would be preferred, but is not required.Illustrator Need For Paying Comic Book Project2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Night Wolf" is about a teenager who on his 18th birthday discovers that he was born a werewolf and is reluctantly thrown into a supernatural war between good and evil.
This is a start-up project so I don't have much money, but I do have $2,100 that I can pay for character designs, a Cover and 24 pages for the fist issue.
Once the character designs are finalized, and have some solid sequential artwork I plan to submit a proposal to kickstarter.com and indiegogo.com to get additional funding for the project, publishing, advertising, distribution, etc.
Compensation for future issues is negotiable. Payment can continue to be work on a commission basis, or we can discuss payment based on a percentage of the profit from sales from the title(s) worked on.

This is the moment we've waited for and, in a sense, the reason we created this group in the first place.
I hope you all enjoy yourselves and the ending to Christopher Nolan's amazing trilogy.
It's been quite a ride, hasn't it?
Ry's Favourite Artists Featuring: Willow-SanHi there its me Hainanese Chicken with Ryce. I feel like doing something I have never done before, I want to feature some of my favourite artists that I have been following for years, lets begin by someone I found randomly on Deviantart years ago and caught my eyes. Her name is Willow-San :iconwillow-san:Ry's Favourite Artists Featuring: Willow-San2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Willow-San is a french artist who's art style caught my attention... umm ok I gota be honest, I saw a pikachu and I clicked on her profile :iconmingplz: (I CANNOT RESIST A PIKACHU OK) BUT what I discovered was a whole new universe of art perfection, in the world of the great and mighty Willow-San with pretty vibrant colors and amazing line work and comedy gold humour! And a f*ckin Pikachu
I especially like how she draws faces, they are so full of energy and the shading is top notch. Seriously this gurl has got so much talent, n

We need your help to show public support for the Dadotart application. The application process to manage a TLD is long, arduous, and intricate. Help us gather as a true art-centric community. And please spread the word to everyone who loves the arts or is part of the arts because we aim to have .ART be home to everyo

Should Today's Technologies Inspire?

We got to interview a visionary futurist with an eye on technology about what would inspire today's comic book writers to create our next superheroes with knowledge of real technological and scientific advancement.
You never know when it’s going to happen – that otherwise quotidian moment when you suddenly realize your entire thought process has just been tripped up and cast down a cerebral rabbit-hole destination unknown. Little did I know that what began as a typically pleasurable lunch wit
Back on ScheduleAs you probably noticed!Back on Schedule2 years ago in Personal More Like This
My time off was a welcome relief. I got to see almost all my favorite people! And I slept a lot. Which was awesome. And then I got sick for like three days. Which was awful. First time I take any time for myself in a long while and I get sick. I have hilarious luck at times.
So I'm back. Back again. Tell some men.
Also my cowriter and I have like 5 copies of the Dark Knight. And we've lost every single one of them. How did we manage to DO that? Luckily I have a digital copy. Course my cowriter has almost the entire movie memorized anyway...
And because I didn't say it already I really liked the Dark Knight Rises. Bane was awesome. And I liked how all the lies backfired on our main characters. But most of all Gordon's wife and kids escaped his grasp. I don't think I've ever felt such emotional feelings on a fictional relationship than Gordon and Barbara. She and the kids suffer so much and yet they did nothing wrong. It was like they're were just

And I really didn't do a thing to thank you guys for reading. I've legitimately have been busy. (Like this commission I still need to finish that's distracting me.) So sorry! I'll do something once I finish up other (paying) work! Yeah.
All well. I kinda feel all accomplished and stuff. So I'm happy. Wee! Happiness.
Also my co-writer is graduating high school today. So many accomplishment at once! Okay one of these things is better than the other and shouldn't be compared. But shut up logic and reason.

Everyone should give it a view. You see viewing it is the only way to stop me from assassinating you. Don't think I know where you live? Well I've been stealing a sock every so often when you wash your clothes. Yeah that's me. I'm watching you. :iconcreepynoodleplz: I better see some clicking on that thumb soon. Or else I might start taking ALL your socks. Then your feet will be cold. Then you'll catch a cold and die slowly from sniffles. Then you'll be filled with overwhelming regret!

News of the discovery of 500 “new” fairy tales collected over 150 years ago [link] in Germany and locked away in a forgotten archive has me thinking about the enduring importance of these narrative treasures in the lives of human societies worldwide.
