Planetary Mythology Photomanipulation Competition!Mythology of the PlanetsPlanetary Mythology Photomanipulation Competition!1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Welcome to the latest "dark" photomanipulation contest, supported by Community Relations here on deviantART. This contest will challenge you to think outside of the box, for you will have to not only create something, but you will need to do a bit of research and think about why you are creating it. Are you ready for a competition that is out of this world?
Before we go any further, let me clarify that PLUTO COUNTS!
What do I have to do?
Choose one of the planets (or Pluto) in our solar system, listed below. Moons or suns can be a part of the larger picture, but they do not count as your god/goddess.
Your job is to create a PHOTOMANIPULATION in which you show a myth around a planetary ruler (that is, the god or goddess after which the planets were named).
The gods/goddesses can be Greek, Roman, or other.... but they must be planetary rulers.

Tips for creating dark art
I have heard many people's opinions about dark art. What defines it? What's it's main features? There is many who think they create dark art, but others who tell them THAT isn't what dark art is. But is that fair? Is it up to us to decide what dark art is OR is it something we need to feel. Something that comes to every human in need and offers a cold a dark reality of comfort. Here are the opinions of some dark artists...
"Go beyond the cliché and open your mind. People think creating something dark means you have to stick to cemeteries, goth chicks, and muted tones, which is false! Embrace colour in your dark work. Use your emotions and use your art to explore the darker side of your soul. I have found some of my darkest pieces came from me sitting outside in the sunshine and simply remembering something. Such as how the sun

Photomanips for BeginnersWhat is a photomanipulation?Photomanips for Beginners4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Photomanipulations are images that have been composed of two or more photographic elements to create something new.
This is what the gallery description states. But what does it mean?
It means that a photomanipulation is based on photographs.
Not sketches scanned in (like line art for example) or screenshots from a video game. However, if you scan a photograph or for example dried flowers, it would be considered a photograph; while a photograph taken of line art still remains a sketch and is not consiered a photograph. Video game screenshots are copyrighted images btw and as such cannot be used at all.
It means that you need to use more than one photograph.
Retouching work as well as work that uses brushes or texture overlays only to "spice up" a photo that was taken by yourself(!) should be submitted to Photography > Darkroom, while work that uses stock images (i.e. images that you did not take yourself) should be

Beta Launch: Film, deviantART muro in Sta.shHello everyone!Beta Launch: Film, deviantART muro in Sta.sh2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
Today we're bringing you some major changes for Film & Animation deviations, and also some new tools for deviantART muro and Sta.sh Writer!
Film submission through Sta.sh
The first major change for Film is that Sta.sh is now properly equipped to support film submissions! While it was sort of possible in the past, Sta.sh can now store and submit film files the same way other filetypes can be stored and submitted.
Keep in mind that you have to have film submission privileges in order to submit films to deviantART. For more information on this, please read this FAQ: :faq842:
Film Deviation Page Changes
The second change is regarding the layout of film deviations. The old film layout was designed with an older version of deviantART in mind, and this change places Film submissions back up to speed with the rest of the site. The Film deviation page has been updated to

Getting DeviantArt pointsJust a short journal to answer one of the questions that I get a lot.Getting DeviantArt points1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
First of all, it's important to know what exactly are DeviantArt points?
DeviantArt points are a currency that is used on DeviantArt alone. In this website, you can buy points, you can get them, collect them, and buy things for them. It's basically the DeviantArt equivalent to money. Which might come in useful because even for those that don't have a credit card or Paypal account, it is now possible to get a premium membership. Points can be either bought, or gotten for free from other members. There are many ways to get them. I will list a few here.
Most obvious one: Buy them for money. You need credit card or Paypal, though.
Trade them for llama's. your-username.deviantart.com/badges/ will list people that'll trade llama's for point on the right side. Give that person a llama, and you'll get some points. It's

We do ask you include text for a title (feel free to use Book Title or something generic) and an author name (Jane/John Doe is fine) in your design.
Prizes include (some to be added!):

works that I have come across. It started off as stock I can't provide
myself so I look for other peoples so I can suggest them. The way I
choose is quite odd, when I see a stock image I have an instant image in
my head of what I could do or create out of that piece of stock. The
image also has to be crystal clear and easily altered.
Anyway, Check them out, I'm sure you'll agree, just click on their deviation.

So I've been spending a lot of time trawling some awesome digitized collections, that have been released into the public domain. A number of museums and libraries have put their collections online, and at very decent sizes, encouraging the public to use, alter and interact with the works. Outstanding.
In response to this, I have created a brand new Digital Collage Tutorial, which explains where you can find these brilliant resources:
• Digital Collage Photoshop Tutorial
For the week's 'quick tip', I've put together a video walkthrough explaining three techniques for removing / hiding objects. In this video, we cover Content Aware Fill, The Patch Tool, and good ol' Digital Painting:

Understanding JihadUnderstanding Jihad2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The word "Jihad" is derived from "Jahada" and "Ijtihad"
which both are synonymous to success and striving for a good moral conduct.
It is a pure misconception that non-Muslims
carry even Muslims that Jihad is a holy war.
Holy war in Arabic transliteration goes like this "Harb Muqadassa"
and it is found nowhere in the holy Qu'ran.
Jihad has many levels.
The most important form of Jihad is the personal one.
Which means striving to make yourself a better person
and resisting the evil temptation within one's self which includes:
lying, stealing, engaging one's self in adultery and loose sexual whims.
If a student is passing an exam or a patient going through surgery
he is doing personal Jihad by striving to become better or achieve satisfactory results.
It does not mean to kill any human being be him a muslim or a non-mus
