This Just in from CNN Holiday Challenge Wrap-up
Halloween–Valentines Mash–up Results to be Revealed.
The U.S. Government would like to thank all the deviants and deviant–adjacents who participated in the “great imagining” of what might be the windfalls and downfalls of this merging of holidays and assure them this was not just another thinly veiled McGuffin to distract the citizenry from the looming disaster on the immediate horizon. Here are your submissions!
Remember… when America has a crisis, you can depend on your Government to find the necessary spotlight challenge to address the situation. And you are certainly welcome!

#WatchForeverI have to jump on the bandwagon. Please remember that I'm absolutely positive that I forget at least 20 people or so, and that all the names are in alphabetical order I tried to filter out those who became inactive over the years. Underlined are the people I've met. I've met more, but a lot of them aren't here anymore.#WatchForever9 months ago in Personal More Like This
3wyl. She's an amazing person and if you meet her you can see how involved she is in the community with all of her journals and groups. She always seems to be everywhere. She recently stepped down as a community volunteer, but her community spirit will always be inspirational, even though she might back away for a bit now.
Aeirmid. Another person who I admire for her community spirit. She seems to be online all the time and she always comes up with the best ideas that are community focused and bringing people together. Her name is hard to write, but she's very easy to love!

I'm jumping on the #WatchForever bandwagon and have compiled a list containing a few of my favorite deviants. The following artists are not only tremendously talented, but, having had the opportunity to meet a handful in real life, I can also attest that they're good people.
My years on DeviantArt have provided me a wealth of friendships I wouldn’t otherwise have had the opportunity to make. These friends have opened me up to different ideas, cultures, and points of view. I'm forever grateful to have talked with every deviant who has crossed my path — at a Deviant Meet, or even in a note, comment, or journal.

We might not be figuring out gravity or the laws of optics, but the Literature Community on DeviantArt is a big deal to a lot of people. And it wouldn't have gotten as far as it has without a series of small strides, starting with the first literature DD, featured on November 30, 2000 mere months after the founding of the site.
I apologize in advance for missing information, but you are very much invited to add it to the comments. All times/dates are approximate and may not be 100% accurate.

Good NewsI'm excited to let you know that Autodesk, Inc. has made an investment in deviantART and that one of Autodesk's top executives, Samir Hanna, Vice President of the Autodesk Consumer Group, will become an observer on the deviantART Board of Directors.Good News2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Autodesk has over 30 years of history in helping designers create amazing things. You may know Autodesk for apps like SketchBook and Pixlr for drawing, illustration, and image editing, or for software like 3ds Max and Maya, which are used by the top film and game studios around the world to create fantastically realistic 3D characters, environments, and effects. Amazing fact: the last 17 Academy Award winners for Best Visual Effects use Autodesk software. Autodesk is also known for engineering software like AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit, which has been used to design some of the world’s tallest buildings, longest bridges, and most incredible machines.
With the investment we plan to improve deviantART at a faster pace than we coul
On the Merits of DeviantArtSo my story with DeviantArt is that a long time ago, I had another account. And it was a lot of fun! I felt that being in an online (read: no- or low-pressure) community of fellow artists and writers really inspired me, and that there was a lot of artsy stuff going on that pushed me to keep doing what I do, and more, to get better at it. It was pretty great. On the Merits of DeviantArt5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Then I went to college (mistake! just kidding. sort of), and I met some folks, and they were all like "Oh, haha, DeviantArt, that's all just angsty middle-schoolers and porn. Real artists don't put their art up there." And anyway, I was super busy, and so I between the pressure not to be on DA and the pressure to be in so many other places, I sorta faded away for awhile.
And then I came back! But when I came back, during the summer after my Junior year, three years had passed, and I had changed a lot. In college I studied political science, and my head was (and is, perhaps) filled to the brim w

Image Adjustments and Cropping in deviantART muro
Last week, we launched a new set of tools for Muro to Beta Testers, and thanks to the efforts of the Beta Testers in reporting bugs, and mudimba's quick work fixing those bugs, we are launching these tools to everyone!
The new "Adjust" panel allows you to adjust a variety of color settings, including contrast, tint, and color temperature. These changes can be applied to an individual layer or the whole image, giving you an even broader means of creating dynamic works of art!
The New Mobile Deviation PageThe deviation page on the mobile website has just gotten a huge uplift! The New Mobile Deviation Page2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
In uplifting the mobile deviation page, we re-evaluated what the most important functions and information on the deviation page were, and altered the page to present them in the most easily accessible way. From there, the deviation page was given a visual refresh for ease, clarity, and simplicity.
Features that were previously hidden and accessed by a "More" button can now be accessed without any page shifting, allowing the art to be the focus, and making for a seamless, user-friendly experience. More From This Artist becomes much more visible as well, encouraging viewers to tap through to see more of your art, and Featured Groups and other features are just a tap away.
In addition, a tab has been added so that viewers can easily watch or contact an artist from the deviation page, making it easier than ever to interact in the midst of your browsing experience.

WE ALL LOVE PRINT!
I mean - we REALLY REALLY REALLY love print!
Nobody - NO-BO-DY! - wants to kill print. Not Madefire, not deviantART, not any other digital art, comic or literature provider. That isn't the point of digital at all! That conversation should be forced to stand in a corner with a dunce hat on, because it really is THAT dumb and isn't worth our time. Don't look at it. Don't talk to it. And definitely don't feel sorry for it! It's a trolling meme and doesn't have a worthy or generous thought in it's very small brainpan. It's an evil little turd with a mean spirit and no imagination.
And don't feed it either!
Let's rip open our skulls and publish directly into our brains shall we? Let's stream story-forms to our liminal cortex and mainline creativity! Let's unlearn everything we thought we knew about words, pictures, motion, sound, and the mediums we know so well, bec

The Artist Behind The Lexus IS DesignThe Artist Behind The Lexus IS Design2 years ago in Official DeviantArt Contests More Like This
Robert Evans (PSAS), a longtime member of the deviantART community, has succeeded in making a radical artistic statement about turning artists' visions into actual realities.
Robert's pathway to actualization of his vision was facilitated by forward-thinking executives at Lexus who reached out to the creative cutting edge, to deviantART artists, for new revolutionary design ideas for the production of their 2014 Lexus IS. The Lexus IS Design Contest was born and dA's Robert Evans has come away with the prize: experiencing having his personal artistic conceptualization of how an automobile should look and roll become a real world reality. As Grand Prize Winner, the new Lexus built to Robert's design was debuted at the SEMA auto show in Las Vegas before 60,000 US and international buyers and then featured at the Los Angeles Auto Show before 12,000 industry decision-makers and 4,000 media correspondents from 50 countries.

For those who didn't know, the project started after our friend and fellow game developer, Kevin Kenai Griffith (KKG), was diagnosed with stage four Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma, an incredibly rare cancer with no cure and no clear treatment path.
The initial goal for the funds raised by the book was to cover Kevin's medical expenses; unfortunately in Oct. 2014 KKG passed away, as the content for the book was completed.
After he passed a great deal of time was spent deciding how the project should move forward, if at all. We decided Kevin would have wanted us to see this through, so we continued production on the book as tribut

MMD Thoughts on the DO NOT EDIT controversyMMD Thoughts on the DO NOT EDIT controversy2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Someone (Ryukrieger) sent me a note about the ongoing controversy within the MMD community about the 'DO NOT EDIT' topic. The correspondent wanted to know what my views were and I thought about it and since it's been awhile since I've written an editorial article for MMD, I felt this was a subject matter worth discussing in more detail.
First off, I need to make it perfectly clear that I am usually a proponent of the 'DO NOT EDIT' rule. Most of my own work prohibits editing except for where special exceptions are made. My reasoning here is mainly because most of my work is original, are stages and in the final analysis, my thinking is that stages work like costume. Just find one that's suitable for your project and get on with it, don't be changing what I have put on offer. Still, I've seen bits and pieces of my stage components used in conjunction with other peoples' bits and pieces and in principle, I'm fine with this practice.
But the main
